Diner Reviews
  • "I met a group of friends at Blue Fin before we went to theater. Not only were we on a deadline for the show, but we were also celebrating a birthday. All of the staff were sensational at accommodating these requests. Additionally, the food & drink were excellent ( we were quite taken with the seared tuna & Snapdragon specialty cocktail). Our waiter was terrific. Great upscale place for a special night of any kind."

  • "This is the perfect pre or post theater place for dinner. Excellent consistent food with service that understands that people are trying to make a show on time. They are efficient with service but not rushing you through your dinner. Excellent fish and sushi but there are other choices on the menu. Enjoy this fun NYC spot!"

  • "Overpriced mediocre food and drinks. Only pro is that it was a short walk from our hotel at Times Square."

  • "It was a hot summer evening and the space upstairs was too warm – I had to take off my sports coat which I noticed several other men had done as well. While we were seated quickly and graciously to our table and after two minutes a busboy brought bread, but 10 minutes later a waiter had yet to appear at our table. We finally flagged down a passing waiter who was gracious and brought us water and took drink orders. We ordered specialty drinks which were underwhelming – one too sweet, the other too strong, and both not cold enough. At this point another waiter showed up (no introduction or explanation) to take our food order. They alternated the rest of the meal but both seemed unfocused on us. The food was fine; not great but OK."

  • "I've been here several times for business lunches and have always been impressed. This visit was very sub-par and I don't think we'll return. The food was very mediocre. Beet salad was overdressed with vinegar and many of the beets were so hard, they could barely be bitten. Crabcake sandwich was ok but fries were terribly salty and inedible. My colleague fared better with shrimp dumplings and a lobster role but I still doubt we would return."

  • "My wife and I had dinner at Blue Fin on July 8, 2014. Everything was outstanding...food,drinks (best dirty martini ever). It's a little noisy on the main floor which is where we were. We had been there once before and were on the upper level, which as I recall was a little quieter and romantic. The only downside was that there is only one bathroom on the main floor (use for both men and women)."

  • "Excellent food and service, suggest you ask for a table upstairs where it is a bit quieter. Perfect location for dinner before a Broadway show. Been here many times and it is consistently great."

  • "After ordering, the appetizers appeared quickly. BUT! We ended up waiting over an hour for our entrees to appear after getting explanations from the waiter and then the manager that did not make any sense. We finally got the food and no doubt it was excellent . Worth the wait? Not really. Desserts and the entire meal was gratis but our time was more important."

  • "We ordered sushi: Times Square, californication, eel avocado, and fiery lobster. They were delicious. I actually could have eaten another Times Square roll. We also had the Blue Fin drink and it is excellent. I ended up drinking 3. Our waiter was very friendly and the service was quick. Nice atmosphere. We started out in the bar and people watched. Then headed upstairs for the meal. Perfect evening."

  • "It had been several years since I last dined at the Blue Fin, but my niece was in town visiting Time Square, so I thought I would take her to Blue Fin for lunch rather than eat at one of the many chain restaurants in the area. I reviewed the menu ahead of time, and was excited about the lobster and shrimp roll. Although the presentation was nice and the lobster and shrimp were fresh, it didn't quite overwhelm my palate . . ."

  • "The food was great! The only negative was that our waiter seemed flustered ... he seemed overwhelmed which made things uneasy."

  • "We enjoyed our food very much, when we finally got it. It took far too long for our entrees to arrive. We ordered a bottle of Pinot Grigio. The waiter promptly brought and poured the wine. He asked if we wanted the bottle at our table or in ice. We said on ice, so the bottle was put in a bucket along the wall, which was ok. As our meal progressed we saw less and less of the waiter. I finally had to get up and retrieve the last of the wine. After desert we waited far to long to get the check and then way too long for the payment to be retrieved (by the manager)."

  • "Blue Fin is in an ideal location for a lovely relaxing dinner just before an 8 PM Broadway show. We enjoyed wine, salad and delicious cod before strolling one block to see the show. Grand ambiance with very high ceilings. Extremely large and clean bathrooms which are hard of find in this location. This will be our pre-threatre favorite from now on."

  • "I had a large group (12 people) for my birthday and I can't tell you how lovely the staff was. Everyone was friendly and accomodating. I can't tell you the last time I was in a New York restaurant where I felt so tended to. I would recommend this place in heart beat!"

  • "We arrived just at the end of brunch and the place was almost empty. We were shown to table. Requested a booth but were told they were all reserved. By the time we left, the booths were still largely empty. Received no breadbasket, but saw a lovely basket of muffins and such at the next table. Asked the waitress for a breadbasket and got dinner rolls. Apparently, they'd run out of brunch breadbaskets, although she didn't say so. The meals were both very good. I had ordered one item without tomato, but the waitress either hadn't put in that request or didn't notice that the request had not been met. Dessert was just ok. Overall a fine meal, but the service issues resulted in the loss of an overall star."

  • "Hi. I've been eating in your restaurant for many years. I love the food, so whenever we go to the theatre we are sure to come. The other night we brought friends with us. They agreed the food was yummy. The portions however have shrunk. My husband and I ordered the branzino and my friends ordered the salmon and tuna. I order branzino often when dining out. I have never been served such a small fish. It was more like an appetizer size. My husband and I left the restaurant a little on the hungry side. What has hsppened with you guys?"

  • "Just ok. Good service - food nothing special. Limited menu. Not sure it would be on our rerun list."

  • "The Blue Fin Martini was exceptionally good. Our waiter was pleasant and prompt. One might question our choice of filet mignon in a primarily sea food restaraunt but we were assured of its quality. Two of our steaks were great, mine was tasty but needed much sharper cutlery to cut (quite tough) but my dear wife received a gristle monster. When it was returned for a second try, the replacement was way, way overcooked. No meal is acceptable when only three of four guests get to eat. I would NOT RECOMMEND Blue Fin unless one just wants a good martini. Not good at any price."

  • "We picked the Blue Fin because it was close to the Eugene O'Neill theatre where we were seeing "The Book of Mormon" and we were not disappointed. We wanted a seafood restaurant not overly expensive like Le Bernadin and had a nice selection of entrees. I had the Alaskan Pan Seared Halibut over herb roasted gnocchi and my wife had the salmon special and both dishes were amazing. For apps, we ordered the Lobster and Shrimp spring rolls and edamame which were very good and topped off the meal with a cheese plate for dessert. I would definitely recommend this restaurant especially if you're seeing "The Book of Mormon" or "Chicago" which are 2 blocks away."

  • "My best friend and I went for dinner here before we went to see Book of Mormon. Both of of us went for the sushi rolls. The Thai roll was my favorite. Wrapped in rice paper rather than seaweed, the Thai roll was a pleasant surprise of tastes. Slightly sweet with a little kick, it is definitely well worth trying. My friend had the California roll and was very happy with it. Our server was excellent and attentive. And we could hear ourselves talk, sometimes tough to find in a Times Square eatery. All in all it was the perfect precursor to our evening at the theater."

  • "I think the ambiance is very nice ,with a pleasant busy buzz before theater. The food was all good and prepared well though not one of the best in NYC ,but for the theater district quite good. I had well prepared fish ,but my daughters Sushi was just OK. The waitress was efficient ,but seemed to busy to be a little friendly."

  • "So disappointing having been here many times before. Maître de did not know we could eat upstairs. Very limited choices for lunch Crab cake burger was so so. We were given the wrong dessert, which was corrected. No toilet paper in bathroom (found it in the cabinet, no towels either, also in a cabinet). Not the wonderful restaurant that I loved to go to."

  • "We had no complaints about our decision to have dinner at Blue Fin before our Broadway show. We were seated upstairs after we enjoyed a drink at the bar while watching the crowds of Times Square area pass by. While the bar was alive, fun and loud due to the World Cup soccer game going on, the upper level was quiet, elegant and provided a wonderful ambience for our meal. We shared the lobster & shrimp spring roll which was excellent. I had the sesame seared tuna and my husband had the Sockeye salmon special. Both were cooked perfectly to order and we were not rushed. Our waiter was attentive and very pleasant. We will definitely go back!!"

  • "We both had lobster salad/shrimp salad and bacon rolls with very few french fries. It cost us over $60 for that. It's a little pricey for a sandwich! We won't be going back. Perhaps for dinner, the price would have been fine, but I would have wanted more."

  • "the food was completely mediocre and overpriced. we were going to the theater and while we thought be had plenty of time our food took a very long time to come and only certain things came at once. our waiter was very apologetic but this scenario has happened before."
