definitely the top of the DC dining scene5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMExperienceOur dinner was an experience in dining. Food was excellent, service outstanding and presentation of food impeccable.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMsimply fantasticJust simply fantastic is the subject from beginning to end .
From Making reservation to arriving at the restaurant and being greeted.
Our waiter was excellent along with. The food prepared to perfection .(braised beef )5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Food and ServiceWe made a reservation for the night of my daughter's last GWU final. We were lucky to get in with only a few days notice -- but the 9:15 reservation probably didn't hurt our chances. We found the bread fantastic, and the shaved brussell sprout salad was like a nice crispy cole slaw.
For entrees, we had their Chicken with lemons, my wife had the scallops, and I had the suckling pig -- all were wonderful.
A duet of sides (pureed potatoes and asparagus) rounded out the effort.
We finished up with the apple pie and their honey vanilla ice cream -- excellent finish to a wonderful meal. Great food, and significantly less than your typical steak house.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways GreatThe Blue Duck Tavern is my long-standing favorite restaurant in Washington. We had a wonderful Mother's Day brunch.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMImpress your clientsThis is the perfect place to take clients for lunch. Big windows allow lots of light, or you can sit outside and enjoy the fountain and sunshine. Elegant surroundings, first-class service and excellent food. I love this place! Crab cakes were perfectly done and my guest enjoyed her burger. The shaved Brussels' sprouts salad was a taste treat as well. Finish with their excellent coffee.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGluten Free GemWe had a wonderful meal at Blue Duck Tavern. Being gluten free can sometimes prove to be a challenging dining experience. Our server was very knowledgable about the menu and how to accommodate us. Everything was delicious!5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMToo good to missThe Blue Duck Tavern is one restaurant we never miss on our annual trips to DC. The food is incredible, the service perfect, and the menu exciting. Really extraordinary spot.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMFinally got to eat there!I'd been wanting a table at Blue Duck Tavern for awhile now, and when I finally got one I was in no way disappointed! The food was to die for and the service was great! I will definitely be coming back here!5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMBest restaurant I've been to in DCMy family and I spend a lot of time traveling and trying new food and cuisine. This place is definitely the best I've been to in DC and is definitely top 5 in this country for new American cuisine for me. We ordered the scallops, the duck, the foie gras, the fries, the charred baby lettue and two ice creams. ALL were amazing!5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMLove the open kitchenWe went for brunch and enjoyed the atmosphere, food, service and the special ordered apple pie.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFantasticOverall, the restaurant is fantastic.
unfortunately i did not get the Famous apple pie. (i hope next time can taste it, but not because run out of it.)5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellentRestaurant was first class with friendly staff, a great server Mike who made our night and wonderfull food!
Who would want anything more.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMFine dining in Washington DCI googeled the 10 best restaurants in DC and this was one of them. It did not disapoint . Very creative, innovative cuisine.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMnoise levelThe noise level is off the charts........could hardly hear the people next to me......food was delicious........loved the chairs.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat late lunch @ Blue Duck TavernReally liked the ambiance and service, had the burger with blue cheese and there was just enough to compliment the great beef patty.
I would have liked to be able to add salt to the hamburger myself however. The fries there are top notch and my companions salad was so different, the dugk confit accompanying it moist and full of flavour. Another great meal!4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome and easily best mealAwesome and easily best meal have had in DC. Service very good but not intrusive. Food was awesome and quite reasonably priced value. Definitely planning on returning soonest.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMEasy to get to via the FoggyEasy to get to via the Foggy Bottom metro station and the Orange/Blue lines, open seating area with a full view of the open kitchen, friendly, knowledgeable service that was personal and attentive without being over-bearing, and delicious farm-to-table food made a great birthday meal. We sampled duck consume, a field greens salad, vegetarian risotto, grilled lettuce, a pork T-bone, and grits. All delicious. We'll go back!4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMSprecial Occasion Sunday brunchSprecial Occasion Sunday brunch with the most delicious food choices, all from a menu, not a buffet. Interesting juices like pomegranate-orange to start along with pastries and then a great choice of entrees, all beautiful to look at and perfectly cooked. Then the desserts - one better than the next. A splendid feast!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMVery Special Brunch OptionHaving been a Blue Duck fan for years, I have only gone there for Sunday brunch twice. It's delightful--and not your run-of-the-mill buffet. Creative, interesting options in the usual fresh, unexpected signature of this great eating establishment. Unique not only in DC but in the U.S.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMspectacular anniversary celebrationWe had a remarkable 20 anniversary dining experience at the tavern over the weekend. The food was exceptional and the service shined. Nial, David, and other servers were attentive but not overbearing, and their friendly and helpful care made this a memorable and enjoyable event. We hope to return again for a special occasion. My only minor suggestion for improvement is to figure out a way to reduce the music bass that filters in from the lounge -- or play jazz instead of or to mask the percussive undertones that interrupt the ambiance of the restaurant.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMSimply Fabulous!Reservations might be hard to come by at the Blue Duck, but it's well worth the wait if you want a prime time dinner. Inside the Grand Hyatt hotel, you walk through a decorative state of the art kitchen with several food stations busy with chefs creating amazing dishes. Our group started out with some of the best oysters we ever had, then moved onto the bone marrow appetizer and savored every dish thereafter. The Blue Duck did not let us down in ANY area from service, to wine, to delicious dishes and outstanding dessert. We will definitely be returning to the Blue Duck.... many times!4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMThe entrance to the restaurantThe entrance to the restaurant was a little hard to find so I ended up asking the valet at the Westin Hotel. He directed me to the entrance inside the hotel, but I was taken aback when I walked into what looked like the kitchen prep area. Luckily their was someone working in the room who took me to the restaurant lobby. After that bit of confusion, the experinece picked up. It was hard to make a decision of what to choose, everything sounded so good. My friend and I opted for the 12 hour roasted suckling pig was amazing, it just melts in your mouth. I had the roasted parsnips as a side which were also very good. My friend ordered fries but ended up with mashed potatoes. However, the waiter quickly brought fries as well. They were great.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding in every regard.Outstanding in every regard. One of the best dinners I've had in quite some time4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat restaurant and perfectGreat restaurant and perfect for those who love great food and ideal surroundings for romantic dinners or professional lunches. We'll be back.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMtook my grandmother here fortook my grandmother here for her birthday and we had such an amazing time! really a blast. and my grandmother is not easily pleased. Our waiter was also a gem and made our day. He was so attentive and patient and gave us a free birthday treat. he was wonderful.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMVery Good BrunchThe food was the standout to our brunch. The pastries were good but should have been a bit warmer. The rib hash was the standout as other reviewers mentioned. The apple pie was huge, but could be warmed up, too. I did not love the mimosa I got. The service was very competent but not intrusive. Was a little concerned when a hostess was slightly curt to someone who walked in and inquired about outdoor seating. Was my birthday but did not receive any special treatment or acknowledgement. I would recommend this place and would love to try it for dinner at some point. The portion sizes were good and I did not think the restaurant too expensive for the quality/service.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMThe lobster and blood orangeThe lobster and blood orange salad was superb. Way too noisy, however!4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for lunch!I frequent Blue Duck Tavern several times a year, primarily for lunch and I am never disappointed. Service is always outstanding and the food superb. My group had several dishes but the shaved brussel sprout salad was perfect. A great blend of flavors and not bitter. I would recommend even for those who don't usual like brussel sprouts. We also had the fish special, perfectly cooked, and the risotto.
Always good and always enjoyable.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMYummm!Delicious food. Fun setting. Wonderfully helpful wait staff. Nice patio! And the signature apple pie was wonderful and more than enough for two.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMComforting BDTI don't live in DC but when I visit, I try to eat at BDT at least once. Continuing to be pleasing, we had the mushroom tartlet (melt in your mouth) and beef ribs, my favourite and I always get it! The dessert (one to share!) perfect and wine pairings sensitive to palate and price point.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMYumSuperb. The seared foie/carrot cake appetizer was absolutely one of the best things I have ever eaten, ever. Every dish was delicious. Service was spot on. We'll be back.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMblue duck tavern got the shortblue duck tavern got the short stick in the draw when i planned dinners for my mom's visit to dc.... they have the task of following up inn at little washington!
i would say that the food is very good. i would definitely pick bdt over west end bistro as a bistro style joint to grab food in the west end, or even in DC. the passion fruit tart was too sweet for our palate, but the attentive staff totally saved it by switching it out with their pumpkin creme brulee. the suckling pig is a must have. fries were actually better as it cooled than it was piping hot... i would recommend this place as a nice place to grab a bite after a work day.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was great exceptEverything was great except for the hostess service. They ladies at the front were rude and unresponsive when asked how long it would take to get seated. Restaurant was nearly empty and they seated us nearly 20 min later than our reservation. They acted as though we were an inconvenience. We asked to sit outside and were told no only later did the food server actually let us sit out when he was seating us. The waitstaff was fantastic. Hostesses were not the caliber I would expect at The Blue Duck.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMMy girlfriend and I went toMy girlfriend and I went to Blue Duck Tavern for the first time this past Saturday night. Everything about our experience was perfect. I mentioned in my Open Table reservation that we were coming for her 30th birthday. When I gave the hostess the reservation name, both hostesses said happy birthday to her. Throughout the course of the meal, any time someone new served us, each one of them told her "happy birthday." Both the service and the food were perfect: our champagne and water glasses were never empty, when you got up from the table a new napkin was placed in your spot within seconds, and the wait staff was attentive but not overbearing. I recommend the short rib, fries, and the apple pie for dessert.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMFive of us went for a lateFive of us went for a late Saturday brunch and had a wonderful time! We at everything tapas-style -- from chilled lobster salad to crab cakes on shaved fennel to chicken livers with smoked gouda grits to excellent Maine oysters and more(!!) -- were excellent, interesting, well-paced, and nicely plated! There is outdoor seating that looks like it would be quite nice but it's just a little too early in the season to eat outside. Thanks for both an excellent brunch and making an afternoon with old friends that much more delightful!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMI've been to Blue Duck a numberI've been to Blue Duck a number of times and it is always, always, always spot on -- great food, great service and just a very enjoyable experience.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had an amazing brunch here.We had an amazing brunch here. The sticky bun and crab cakes were our highlight. However, the house-made honey vanilla ice-cream was also spectacular. The service was outstanding. The food was incredible, we shared a brussel sprout salad and hamburger, as well as some BDT fries. Everything was really good, our server was so warm and sweet, we thought she was exceptional. The price makes it a special occasion place, but I hope to go back!4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMThe passion fruit tart madeThe passion fruit tart made my mouth water - excellent. The soft shell crab special was fantastic. Don't miss the Gouda grits!4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMBest food we had in all ofBest food we had in all of DC on our trip. This was our first meal (lunch) of the trip and without a doubt our best. The BDT Triple Fries live up to all the hype and press they get. Best fries I've ever had and the garlic aioli! I want to buy it by the gallon and spread it on everything. Everything was perfectly cooked. My wife had the fried pork chops with greens and loved it. We get to eat at a number of great restaurants for southern food where we live but we never expected that we'd find one of the best in DC4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best restaurantsOne of the best restaurants in DC - every time I visit Blue Duck it never fails to disappoint. Fresh local produce, great atmosphere. Get the smoked duck and always end with the apple pie! Better to come at night than during the day and always come with an appetite!4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and desserts.Excellent food and desserts. Waiter brought the wrong appetizers and that was the only drawback to a great meal. All 4 adults in our party loved the food. Mixed drinks are different than expected so read through ingredients carefully before ordering. When in D.C. this is a must stop.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMA friend reccomended thisA friend reccomended this place for lunch. we had just arrived to DC and were starving. It was a great discovery! Food is great and the ambiance and open kitchen are excellent. A must if you are in the area.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything about our mealEverything about our meal was super! You can't pick badly from this menu, everything is awesome. We'll be back to do the Chef's table.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMDefinitely one of the bestDefinitely one of the best restaurants I have had a chance to visit.
I really like the space, the open kitchen is awesome, I appreciate being able to see the staff working to prepare the food. A couple of issues with the atmosphere is that the place can get very loud making it hard to talk to others at your table and also the chair arms are weak and appear a bit cheap.
Service was very good, the main server as well as the assistant servers were all friendly and accommodating. They were able to spell out all the specials and made me feel very welcome.
Food was excellent. I was able to sample several dishes and all were pretty good. I started with the oven roasted scallops, they were cooked thoroughly with great flavor. My only4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMVery much enjoyed our experienceVery much enjoyed our experience at the Blue Duck. Good food and a nice kids menu. Is great for a special occasion too.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AM
