A word from Blue Duck Tavern
Blue Duck Tavern, a contemporary neighborhood restaurant, invites its guests to gather and celebrate in good taste with a menu focusing on the freshest ingredients available from local purveyors and artisans. The menu notes every farm where the main ingredient for the dish was raised before its journey to the table. Dishes are genuine, time-honored and traditional -- slow roasting in wood embers, braising, preserving and smoking techniques bring the true flavors of America's great, simple and wholesome foods to the Blue Duck Tavern.

The restaurant has an elegant residential feel through the open staff pantry and kitchen, wood-burning oven and the showpiece Molteni range.

*Please note that for diners bringing in wine, a $35 corkage fee (per 750 ml bottle of wine), with a limit of two bottles, will be charged.

BDT never disappoints. We have visited on several occasions, and while pricey, still a great value for the price relative to other high end restaurants. Service staff genuinely want you to be informed of the menu selections and satisfied. Sommelier was helpful and not pretentious. The display kitchen gives the ambience an interesting vibe. The menu items are always inventive.

Nice and friendly service even though it took quite a while to get our meals. They comped the appetizer even though we had not combined. Salad dressing was incredibly salty as was the broth in the bouillabaisse. Pork chops very fatty.

We had been excited to try BDT. The food took absolutely forever. At every step of the way. The waiter was very gracious and apologetic but we sat down at 8:00 and left at 11:30. Probably wouldn't come back because of that. The food was good but not outstanding. The restaurant was beautiful.

Our group went for Saturday brunch (11:45 reservation; 3 adults, one child-8yrs). The staff we encountered were courteous, attentive, and informative. We waited less than 5 minutes to be seated, waited less than 5 minutes for our server to meet & greet us and bring menus. The arrival of our drinks, appetizer, and food was timed just right. Anything we needed (ketchup, sugar, etc.), our server brought to the table immediately so we didn't have to wait to begin eating our food. This was a plus+ for me. Our server checked on us for drinks, and in general, just enough for my taste--that is, he didn't hover but he wasn't MIA, either. All of our dishes were delicious. We have reservations to revisit in a few weeks to try the dinner menu.

My husband and I had a lively dinner here in the herb garden which is amazingly quiet given its setting right on 24th St. Food was delicious and creative and portion sizes were perfect. Service was solicitous at first but we were never offered a refill on coffee and water fell off after dark. Still a great meal and we will keep on our list of places we want to return to.

we spent the weekend in Washington and ate at many great places (Nora, Zaytinya, Mio, Mitsatam, DC). We loved the service at the Blue Duck, attentive but unobtrusive. And the food was terrific. When i booked this restaurant for our weekend i didn't know we were staying at the Park Hyatt (it was a surprise). And everything at this hotel was amazing.

The food at Blue Duck Tavern is always phenomenal - and it's often hard to stray from favorites to try new things (even though every dish is equally as pleasing!). The service is always what differentiates this restaurant - good food, cocktails, and service. However, on our recent visit, we found the service to be lacking - misinformed about the menu, ingredients, and a bit slow. That said, the food was phenomenal and we'll happily return to the restaurant.

We had a great experience at Blue Duck. While we were waiting at the bar for the rest of our party, the bartender gave a great rundown of the menu. She was excited about everything they served. We were told to order the bone marrow. Seemed a bit odd, but it was delicious. Everything we had was excellent, and the wait staff was very attentive, although they were sort of pushing a specialty wine that I didn't think lived up to the hype.

Overall I was disappointed by Blue Duck Tavern. It had received a great deal of hype in the 100 Best Washington Restaurants list and Tom Siestma from the Washington Post but in my opinion it clearly failed to deliver to expectations. I like a quiet dining experience. That simply isn't possible the way the restaurant is designed. Also, the service was slow. It took far too long to get our drinks initially and at various other times the service was slow in coming. The food was pretty good however. Finally, the restaurant looks nothing like a tavern. It should be renamed the Blue Duck Cafeteria.

Had the suckling pig which blew me away! I'm Filipino and I even thought it was a gourmet litson! So much flavor in our dishes! Wife had the crab Cakes which were delicious. Fresh farm to table you can really tell. The oysters were really good too. And that dessert oh my god! Peaches with some pudding dish was just astounding and we both were fighting to finish it and even thought of seconds! The cocktails were original and tasted great. Our server was a little too serious but checked up on us a lot and was very attentive. Great first night dinner in DC that we truly enjoyed! Don't get me started on how amazing their breakfast was!

I started with a Manhattan and our table shared several starters. The foie terrine, heirloom tomatoes and crab cakes were excellent and I would order all three again. I had the hanger steak which was good, just unremarkable compared to the tile fish or ribs but the red wine and sides made it a very nice meal. Everyone loved the fries. Dessert and espresso were the perfect endings, I finally got to try the infamous apple pie which was the table's favorite.

Inventive, excellent food-- risotto to die for, tomato and peach salad with just the right amount of the perfect vinaigrette, perfectly cooked (moist, tender, and medium rare) Duck. Ratatouille turned out to be roast veg with dressing. Service was quite prompt, fequent, and advocated (often) sharing plates. Oregon Pinot N. was an excellent choice. The room gets very clattery-noisy after ~8PM ... and that's with many patrons eating on the front patio.

So we are frequent fine diners..been to city Zen, volt, corduroy, Charleston..this place gives such little portions it's unreal..I have no problem with tapas ..if it's tapas call it that..cold hard bread..overworked waiter, indifferent hostess..felt tlike it was a profit-driven rather than service. Food was good but not what the reviews say by no means..won't be going back..try the charcuterie board or bread at central michel Richard or 1789 and then you compare and you see that it is so below par..maybe it was a bad night...crabcake was basically an amuse bouche..it's not a bad restaurant it just isn't what it's been propped up to be on the Washingtonian especially compared to others within its supposed class which I have been to.

The service and food were outstanding as usual. I had a daytime cocktail and it was delicious (and dangerous, but in a good way). The waitress was efficient, friendly and added to the enjoyable experience. We had the basket of pastries which was good, but next time I'll be going for the sticky buns instead. My boyfriend had the burger and fries. He was stuffed after eating only half and said it was tasty. I had the french toast, only complaint being that it was more like a bread pudding which I'm not a fan of. We also split a biscuits and gravy which is so decadent and heavenly. And of course, ordered some grits and an apple pie to go. So, we basically got to have a second meal which was amazing!

There was a roach that crawled from the servers station, then under our table. It was not good. One of the runners immediately noticed it and took care of the situation before my wife screamed.
