A word from Blue Duck Tavern
Blue Duck Tavern, a contemporary neighborhood restaurant, invites its guests to gather and celebrate in good taste with a menu focusing on the freshest ingredients available from local purveyors and artisans. The menu notes every farm where the main ingredient for the dish was raised before its journey to the table. Dishes are genuine, time-honored and traditional -- slow roasting in wood embers, braising, preserving and smoking techniques bring the true flavors of America's great, simple and wholesome foods to the Blue Duck Tavern.

The restaurant has an elegant residential feel through the open staff pantry and kitchen, wood-burning oven and the showpiece Molteni range.

Had the suckling pig which blew me away! I'm Filipino and I even thought it was a gourmet litson! So much flavor in our dishes! Wife had the crab Cakes which were delicious. Fresh farm to table you can really tell. The oysters were really good too. And that dessert oh my god! Peaches with some pudding dish was just astounding and we both were fighting to finish it and even thought of seconds! The cocktails were original and tasted great. Our server was a little too serious but checked up on us a lot and was very attentive. Great first night dinner in DC that we truly enjoyed! Don't get me started on how amazing their breakfast was!

I started with a Manhattan and our table shared several starters. The foie terrine, heirloom tomatoes and crab cakes were excellent and I would order all three again. I had the hanger steak which was good, just unremarkable compared to the tile fish or ribs but the red wine and sides made it a very nice meal. Everyone loved the fries. Dessert and espresso were the perfect endings, I finally got to try the infamous apple pie which was the table's favorite.

Inventive, excellent food-- risotto to die for, tomato and peach salad with just the right amount of the perfect vinaigrette, perfectly cooked (moist, tender, and medium rare) Duck. Ratatouille turned out to be roast veg with dressing. Service was quite prompt, fequent, and advocated (often) sharing plates. Oregon Pinot N. was an excellent choice. The room gets very clattery-noisy after ~8PM ... and that's with many patrons eating on the front patio.

This was hands down one of the best meals I've had in DC. The suckling pig is amazing! Must get the fries as well...not your typical fare. Service was impeccable! Had the apple pie as well, which you cannot miss. Overall would go again in a heart beat!!

So we are frequent fine diners..been to city Zen, volt, corduroy, Charleston..this place gives such little portions it's unreal..I have no problem with tapas ..if it's tapas call it that..cold hard bread..overworked waiter, indifferent hostess..felt tlike it was a profit-driven rather than service. Food was good but not what the reviews say by no means..won't be going back..try the charcuterie board or bread at central michel Richard or 1789 and then you compare and you see that it is so below par..maybe it was a bad night...crabcake was basically an amuse bouche..it's not a bad restaurant it just isn't what it's been propped up to be on the Washingtonian especially compared to others within its supposed class which I have been to.

The service and food were outstanding as usual. I had a daytime cocktail and it was delicious (and dangerous, but in a good way). The waitress was efficient, friendly and added to the enjoyable experience. We had the basket of pastries which was good, but next time I'll be going for the sticky buns instead. My boyfriend had the burger and fries. He was stuffed after eating only half and said it was tasty. I had the french toast, only complaint being that it was more like a bread pudding which I'm not a fan of. We also split a biscuits and gravy which is so decadent and heavenly. And of course, ordered some grits and an apple pie to go. So, we basically got to have a second meal which was amazing!

There was a roach that crawled from the servers station, then under our table. It was not good. One of the runners immediately noticed it and took care of the situation before my wife screamed. The floor manager offered us a complimentary dessert for the inconvenience. We just didn't expect a place like this to have roaches given the air and ambiance.

It's a great spot for outdoor dining in the evening. The special watermelon, beet, ricotta salad was amazing -- perfect starter for a warm summer evening! Great California wine choices. The duck was properly cooked and flavorful, but would have preferred a little more flavor in the farro side dish. Service was quite attentive throughout the meal.

It was our 51st wedding anniversary! I wanted somewhere special but not too over the top. We had been to Blue Duck for pre theater dinner, but it was always rushed. This was a long leisurely dinner and was superb! I got a scallop appetizer which is not to be missed - a ceviche and thin smoked slices of scallop with micro greens and superb vinaigrette. My husband had a lettuce wedge which was made with a leaf lettuce - he loved it. My duck breast was super and his bison steak exceptional. Food is served with attention to flavor - and a bit of whimsy. YUMM. And if you like good wines, Blue Duck will not disappoint. Broad selection at (relatively) reasonable prices. We look forward to a return visit.

We had a wonderful meal at Blue Duck Tavern. Had the bison and the duck with plum sauce. they were really good. The fries were wonderful as was the apple pie for two. Service was wodnerful. They were always available and any request was completed immediately. The only food miscue was the tuna poached with olive oil. It had a weird texture and it made the tuna overcooked.

We had reservations for brunch and were very disappointed with the menu selection, food, and the service. I have never had such a bad meal at a Hyatt restaurant. Service was extremely slow. We had to ask for bread. We waited over 30 minutes for our food and beverages were also slow to arrive. The waitress did not seem to know all the menu items and was confused when we asked questions. One problem is that the menu selection was too eclectic. For example, the burger item came on one piece of bread in open face fashion, but the menu did not say that's how it was being served. Who pays $24 for an open faced burger you cannot pick up to eat? We will not be returning to this place.

My husband and I have a tradition of celebrating our wedding anniversary at Blue Duck. We had our wedding party at the Park Hyatt, and celebrated our first two anniversaries at Melrose. So once Blue Duck opened, we adapted our tradition. The food is wonderful. My frittata was delicious, as were my husband's fried chicken livers. We loved the root beer ice cream - the perfect way to end a meal. The service at Blue Duck is always lovely. Andre - our server - was friendly and helpful without being overbearing or obsequious. I had been looking forward to having breakfast at the Blue Duck Tavern and took some friends who were visiting from out of town there, but we were all underwhelmed. The service was extremely slow, and the servers continuously forgot very basic things like milk for coffee, salt and pepper for eggs, butter for toast, etc. The food was all right but nothing memorable, and the atmosphere seemed to offer nothing special. The restaurant seemed to be just disinterested in their clients.

We made reservations to return to Blue Duck Tavern as soon as we planned a weekend getaway to DC, as this restaurant thoroughly impressed us during our visit last year. We made early dinner reservations for a Friday evening at BDT (Aug 15, 2014) to celebrate our recent engagement, and from the moment we arrived, we felt so welcomed by all of the staff (we were even greeted with welcome back champagne). Our waiter Kamal was kind & perfectly attentive throughout the night and our food was absolutely delicious, as always. We tried a range of items from the menu since we only get here once a year from CT- the heirloom salad & squash soup were so rich with flavor, crab cakes continue to be a favorite, and my fiance's bouillabaisse was GREAT!

Actually was taking an important client out so it was unfortunate.Ate here about a year ago and it was fabulous and could not wait to go back. Got wedge salad and it was not that great. Guest got the pork chop and it was average. I got the halibut special and it was very good but overall dining experience was average. Will probably not go back.

The food was flawless, which makes it all the more disappointing to have the night spoiled by slow service. We could forgive the 25 minute wait (past reservation time) to be seated, most of which was spent waiting for drinks at the bar that should have arrived within 10. And dinner started out fine, but then the wheels came off. Nearly 50 minutes between salad and entree, then another full hour between ordering desert and getting the check. Lastly, the valet parking was a mess: nobody there to assist us, and the hotel valet charged us an unannounced fee that the guy could have just pocketed for all we know. Maybe they just had a bad night, but hey, if you want to be considered the best of the best, you can't have bad nights.
