  • Nice anniversary dinner.

Went to BDT for an anniversary dinner, which I had noted in our reservation. We were seated at a semi-private table near the back windows, next to a divider. I appreciated not being seated in the middle of the room. Our waitress, Kristen, was very nice. She wished us a happy anniversary while getting our wine order. I had a very difficult time deciding between the scallops and the crabcakes, but ultimately went with the scallops. I also ordered potato My partner ordered the ribs. It was a lovely surprise when they brought us a crabcake to share, "for [our anniversary]." Everything was delicious. The special dessert that evening was a chocolate torte, which was moist, rich, and dark, and not too sweet. They wrote "Happy Anniversary" on the plate in chocolate. Overall, it was a very nice meal and we will definitely be back.

Blue Duck Tavern is expensive but absolutely worth every penny. The service is outstanding, the food always solid. It really shines as an example of what brunch can and should be and is my go-to for visitors. Our server was kind and attentive but not overbearing.

We had a late dinner and the service was fabulous. We looked at the wine list and there is almost nothing for under $50. We decided to go with a glass of wine instead of a bottle, better to have one good glass than a whole bottle of overpriced less desirable wine. For staters I had the squash salad which was very good. Improvements, I would have liked the squash to be warm not cold. My husband had the soup. Much too salty and a little bland. The bread would also benefit if it was warm. Because we came late it was a little dried out and hard, not very good for someone who loves bread and looks forward to it when I go out for dinner. I think of bread as a treat, I do not serve it at home. For our mains, I ordered the single crab cake and my husband the scallops. The crab cake comes by itself with nothing else so I also ordered the wild mushrooms. The crab cake was perfect however the scallops were a little over cooked, which makes they very chewy and salty. The mushrooms were also over salted. I am finding that more and more restaurants are over salting their food. You should be able to bring out the flavor without having to add so much salt. We did not have dessert. Overall a very satisfying meal, with its hits and misses.

Service was very good as was the food. Everything was delicious and well presented. The hard surfaces, wood floor and furniture resulted in a rather loud dining environment. Menu print is small and lights are dim in the evening. In sum a very nice night out, was our second trip and will be back agan.

Wow - great table service. This is the first restaurant that I've been to where the servers wear jackets! Everything about the place was superb - the wine, the food, the service. The menu was a bit adventurous but worth trying - even the bone marrow which I swore I would never try. I would definitely make a return trip but probably for a special occasion; a bit pricey otherwise.

The food experience was fantastic. We went as a couple, but had a good selection of food. All of it was delicious. The service too was very good. Friendly, informative, and efficient. The only drawback was the noise level. Of course, one expects a popular restaurant in the evening will get noisy, We happened to sit in an area with a set of close tables set up for two. Unfortunately, that exacerbates the noise issue when one happens to be seated next to a rude customer who apparently never quite learned of the concept called "indoor voice". Even with that though, a great experience we'd recommend.

I'm sorry to say that our November 9 dinner at Blue Duck Tavern was disappointing. I chose it because previous meals had been excellent and I was anxious to provide a nice experience for out of town guests who are used to eating very well. The smoked trout rillettes were bland and confusingly presented, the roast suckling pig had too much fat and gristle. One guest ordered sweetbreads and also had to extract gristle from several bites. The fsalad with apple, however, was very good. The service was adequate - the server was certainly congenial and knowledgeable, but there were 4 different people serving dishes over the course of the meal, in addition to people pouring water, etc. - this may be a trend but is disconcerting.

I came here to celebrate my twin and I's birthday and everything was amazing. The ambiance was very intimate and comfortable. We got a really great seat looking into the kitchen where we saw the magic happening. As my sister and I love food network cooking shows such as Chopped, Cut-Throat Kitchen, Iron Chef etc. this was definitely a treat. The server was very knowledgeable and attentive. I will definitely come here again.

Service was pretty horrible from reservation to table. Wait servers were slow -- no one wants to wait 20 minutes for coffee on Sunday brunch morning -- and the food wasn't anything to write home about. That being said, it was good enough for brunch and the pecan sticky buns are an absolute must order for the table (enough for 3-4 people to taste). Easy to get a reservation here because it is in the Park Hyatta and people normally are looking for Founding Farmers rezzies or other places not attached to hotels in the West End. Easy to get to by metro and great ambience.

I went to Blue Duck Tavern to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday, and it was a great experience. The service is outstanding. The food was really good. I'm not a big fan of duck, but my girlfriend ordered the duck and I loved it. Never thought I'd ever like a duck dish. The restaurant is pricey. However, it's definitely worth it. I would recommend it for special occasions. I can see myself coming back again in the near future!

02NOV14 Make sure to go to their website and look at the menu BEFORE going otherwise you'll still be trying to decide as you down your third cup of coffee because it's all great. I had the burger which was absolutely fantastic (don't assume.... read the menu) and my wife had the short rib hash and homemade sticky buns (ate one took one home for a micro wave treat next AM). Latte was prepared perfectly and my bride said her Bloody Mary was the best she's ever had. (Really says something because the one at the Hay - Adams Lafayette Room and The Ashby Inn are rave worthy!!) Service: from greeting through departure was truly exceptional. Tough to get a reservation for good reason.

I went to Saturday brunch at Blue Duck with my family. The food was out of this world. The service on the other hand was less than remarkable. We had a reservation and still had to wait 10 mins for a table. We waited 20 mins for coffee and then another 5 for cream. We couldn't tell if it was just our waitress or if everyone had bad service. I'd go back, but with the understanding that nothing will be snappy.

If you can request and reserve David, you literally have just requested and will receive the most impeccable service you might have ever experienced. It sure was for my husband and me. We hobbled in after an early day walking accident and were , literally, helped to our seats. The setting is lovely. The menu and wine list offered plenty of choices. We ordered the duck and the braised beef with a side order of roasted mushrooms. The duck was excellent. It was cooked perfectly medium rare with wonderful flavor. The leg was slightly redolant of Chinese five-spice. The beef was tender yet beefy with excellent flavor and au jus. The mushrooms were terrific. We received a complimentary order of farrow which was very good as well. I was unsure about a wine by the glass so the sommelier just offered a taste to help me make a decision. An unexpected 'birthday' dessert was provided as well. All in all a meal very well spent.

I've dined at Blue Duck Tavern many times, and aside from the wonderful food I have been equally impressed with the professionalism of the wait staff. Our waiter was nice enough; but after taking our orders and saying he would bring us some bread, he failed to do so. We got through our first course without bread, and my colleague had to ask him for it. He didn't come back to ask how our entrees were, and when he finally returned it was with our check--never asking if we wanted dessert. We would normally have dessert, but at that point the meal had taken too long and we were so disappointed that we just paid the check. We felt bad leaving only a 15% tip, but he barely earned that.

Our recent trip to Washington provided us an abundance of beautiful restaurants. We were fortunate to have had the Blue Duck Tavern recommended to us after a beautiful dinner at 1789. From the beginning with the open concept kitchen our senses were heighten with the aromas and sights so close at hand. The bone marrow entree is very different from anything I have ever tried - but it is delicious. Make sure to share as it is very rich and you want to have room for your entree. The suckling pig entree and braised beed were succulent and delicious. Service was impeccable and very friendly. Love this restaurant!
