Diner Reviews
  • "Ordered the mussels, flat bread and lobster mac and cheese, couldn't be happier! Our server Jason was super friendly and helpful as well. Best casual restaurant in Steveston :)"

  • "the seafood is so fresh, and the service is always great. the outdoor seating area is shielded from the wind by plastic sheets and a roof, which makes the dining experience much better. The noise level gets a bit overwhelming, so not a place for anyone with hearing aids as they would not be able to enjoy the conversation with others at their table."

  • "We had a very enjoyable lunch. We did not feel rushed as we had a lot to chat about. The food was excellent! My only complaint was that we were seated on the covered patio and I had expected to be in the restaurant. They did have heaters but was a little cold on the legs and one of my friends brought her mother and she was definitely cold. No one seemed to be seated in the main restaurant so next time I would ask about that."

  • "A few years ago, blue canoe used to be the top resturant in Steveston, however on my recent visit I found it to have fell below expectations. First of all after we got seated, we realized that our table was still sticky, our server seems to be really busy so we decided not to ask for a different table. We decided to order a bottle of wine, the wine option was very limited and the server had very little knowledge about the wine that was on the menu. Our bottle of white was brought over without a bottle chiller, and we had to request that on our own. The food was mediocre, we ordered some fresh oysters that was no where near the quality or freshness of Joe fortes or rodneys, but pricing was similar at $3/oysters."

  • "While the food is decent ,the beer selection is good, and the view is excellent, the blue canoe still lags in service. We have been there about 10 times and we have never had excellent service. We either wait to be served or wait for our bill . Last time we waited 15 min to pay our bill after we had finished our meals and drinks . While we love the patio ,we have started looking for other places to go. I feel that they just stopped caring, much like the other restaurants on the boardwalk."

  • "The food at Blue Canoe is consistently good. The four of us had a variety of fish dishes including snapper with vegetables and cous cous, linguine with shrimp and crab, succulent Haida Gwaii halibut and seafood paella. Wine list is more than adequate; the Blue Mountain Gamay was a hit. Our server was knowledegable, personable and efficient. Who could ask for more?! (We also had those incredible, baked brussels sprouts and shaved parmesan...a guilty and sumptuous pleasure!)"

  • "I have dined at the Blue Canoe about a half dozen times now, and it has always been a great experience. This restaurant is truly a great find not only for Steveston, but anywhere else in the lower mainland, too. Just the right amount of dishes from which to choose, not too many and not too few. Great bar selection as well. Unpretentious but truly fresh, quality food, absolutely delicious!"

  • "Our servers name was Jason, and he's been my server more then once. Always fantastic, very genuine, charming, and professional. Blue Canoe stands out from all the rest not only because of the outstanding food and decor, but the service is fantastic! As a regular customer, it is very clear Blue Canoe is always improving and taking it to the next level. As always, I have high expectations, and I know with Spring and Summer around the corner it's going to be even more fantastic. Keep up the great work! Looking forward to my next seafood salad.. Mmmm!"

  • "This is the second time I have visited the restaurant and both experiences have been great . The staff are friendly, helpful and courteous and the food is amazing. I'm a vegetarian and although I realize Steveston is a seafood town Blue Canoe has recently added a few vegetarian options to their menu. The waiter even mentioned the kitchen could make up many vegetarian options that weren't on the menu. The view is fantastic and a perfect place to sit both winter and summer. I will definitely go back and highly recommend others try out The Blue Canoe."

  • "Our family enjoyed salmon and steak. The presentation was excellent and the entrees were perfectly prepared. The servings were so large we had to enjoy dessert at a separate establishment later in the evening. If we lived nearby, this would become a regular dining location for us. We look forward to returning sometime in the next couple of years."

  • "Service was fantastic and the food proved foodie-worthy for our special occasion. We had the Seafood Platter for two and while the portion did leave me feeling a tad unsatisfied even after a starter soup, I added a nice finishing starter of Pork & Pineapple Flatbread and my appetite was quenched. Had my first hazelnut creme brule for dessert and it was great. Am planning to take our foodie friends there next month to try out more of the menu."

  • "Sunny day. Greeted immediately. Sat inside. Server very attentive. Food was really good. Watched the sunset. Restaurant very busy but not loud and no wait for service. Great view of the water and boats. Been there many times and we still love it."

  • "Everything was excellent. However, I had the impression from the website that vegetarian was readily available.. Our friend is a serious vegan so not too much applied. However, in discussion with our excellent server, a meal was devised and the kitchen deliver in spades. Thanks so much ..."

  • "This is a great place to come for terrific food, fantastic scenery and a relaxing attitude. Parking can be a bit if a challenge but the experience at this little nugget on the River is well worth a second drive by to get a parking spot."

  • "We enjoyed dinner on Saturday of Valentine's weekend at Blue Canoe. We really enjoyed oysters on the half shell and a most-excellent paella with ling cod. Our wine choices were also tasty. Service was good, but noise level was a bit high. We recommend Blue Canoe."

  • "Everything was fine her but we got gouged on the nachos. When I pay 22 dollars for nachos I expect something more than a few handfuls of taco chips with no cheese. I should have sent it back but I didn't. I won't be going back to the Blue Canoe."

  • "We had birthday party for 7 women...and were welcomed warmly. Food was excellent, service fantastic and a fun evening. I would go back in a heartbeat. Some restaurants can make a group of women feel unwelcome, but this was not the case, we had a fabulous evening and the birthday girl was treated royally."

  • "Not nearly as nice a food experience as the previous visit, which was excellent. Two of the same dishes at the table did not look anything like each other (the Trout) - one had way too much dressing covering and the other not enough and the portions of the vegetables were quite different from each other. Trout needs a more delicate touch than many other fish and most of the taste of my dish was missing. Also, the plating was not up to previous experiences on any of the four dishes at our table - a distinct 'thrown down' look to them all. The Caesar I had before dinner was not particularly well-put-together as well. Our server was excellent, but given the contrast between the last two experiences I am not sure about returning in the future."

  • "Great view. Heated patio setting. Lobster Mac and Cheese to die for. Yummy Caesar salad and Bloody Marys."

  • "The restaurant is right on the water with a great ambience. I've eaten there before and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, the halibut was awful. Wooly like soggy tissue. We were assured it was fresh off the boat, but it tasted like they'd found an old piece of fish at the back of the freezer. The rest of the meal was delicious. I'll give the restaurant another try, because I love the location and hope this was a one-off mistake, but I will be wary."

  • "Terrible service, restaurant was not full and even forgot our wine"

  • "Two of our party had lamb shanks which were delicious, portions were sufficient. I had the paella with ling cod, it was not the traditional Spanish style, but the chef's version was exceptionally good, ling cod was cooked to perfection. The fourth person had sablefish which was again exceptional. We shared 3 desserts, all of which were delightful. It's a fun atmosphere, great location, staff friendly, knowledgeable and polite. One thing to note, if you are looking for a romantic (and quiet) dining experience, this is not the place for you. If however, you are looking for a great place to eat in Steveston and appreciate good quality food, then this is the place for you."

  • "Been here a dozen times since it opened and it's seemingly drifted a bit in the last year. Still a million times better than the diabolically bad Charthouse above it, and the view is great, but the menu is just yawn-inducing, and a lot of the seafood listed is never available. It's fine. It's just not great."

  • "we had an awesome waitress, don't remember her name but her service and attitude were excellent there were four of us, the other three meals were good but I had 2 pieces of fish and chips (its Steveston after all). worst fish and chips I ever had, the batter was rock hard and one piece was a tail piece and it was dry and chewy - they were using ling cod, not my favorite won't stop me from going back, but I won't have their fish again"

  • "Good food, good service, great location, although inside decor is a bit "pedestrian". Slightly more expensive than might otherwise be justified but worth the small premium for ambiance and service. Summer evenings allow for protected patio dining, with Steveston's fresh air, and the harbour view just feet away. Overall, a very nice place for brunch, lunch or dinner. Tuna Ceviche is favourite of ours. Freshly prepared from sashimi-quality albacore tuna, served in large cocktail glass, with dried banana (or plantain?) chips, for scooping, it makes a great, lightweight, starter for two sharing. Local mussels, last night, were plump and juicy and perfectly prepared. My wife's Fish Taco was enjoyed immensely. Blue Canoe is well recommended."

  • "My sister and I were hosting some international guests from China and wanted to give them a taste of West Coast dining before taking them to the airport for their flight back to China. Food was good and reasonably priced. Conversation was challenging due to ambient noise. Overall, a good meal...Thank-you."

  • "We were a group of five. We were slow to order and took up real estate for a great part of the night. The server did not rush us at all. We all agreed that the food was very good - and we'd likely return. Desserts were shared among the table - pumpkin crème brule was perfect!"

  • "I have been to the Canoe many times since it opened and as ussual they never fail to impress. The servers are very friendly and most importantly allways knowledgable about the menu both food and wine/beer. I will continue to comeback when I'm in that neck of the woods. A big shout out to Chef and his team"

  • "Another enjoyable experience at the Blue Canoe. They just introduced a new menu so we selected an appetizer, prawns and calamari, which I highly recommend, and then we each ordered an entree. I had the BLT&T open faced sandwich with tuna and it was delicious. My wife enjoyed a dish which set into was in half of a squash. It was also delicious. It was an enjoyable anniversary and the new menu items were great. Added to that was a sunset which was fun to watch as the sky changed colour against the clouds."

  • "We had a wonderful time at Blue Canoe. Were seated around sunset on the patio without any enclosure, but there were heaters on and the staff offered blankets. We enjoyed the view while sipping the wine. We ordered the seafood pasta, and found it an ample enough portion to share. It had salmon, cod, prawns, mussels and clams with a lovely light sauce. Delicious!"
