This is my favorite local restaurant, hands down. We sat on the patio which only has a few tables but it was lovely, quiet, and the perfect place for a celebratory meal. The staff is attentive without hovering, and we loved every dish. The fried oyster caesar plate is always a favorite, as is the fried calamari. My husband had catch of the day and I had the scallops. Period.This was my second visit to Blu, and as good as the first one was, this was even better. We sampled several types of raw oysters that were fresh and delicious. The New England Clam Chowder was perfect in both its flavor and thickness. The cornmeal-breaded fried calamari was perhaps the best I have ever had, and I have had plenty! It was so good that we had it for dessert too rather than any of the delicious-sounding pastries. It is topped with a delicious slaw and has a wonderful smoked chili aioli. The Carolina mountain trout was cooked to perfection, with a red wine glaze topped with an herb butter that was outstanding. The exterior of the building made us wonder about how good the restaurant would be. Parking could be a problem when busy and the parking area was gravel and not paved. This was not a big deal especially after experiencing the delicious food! A great place to eat prior to a concert or performance at DPAC about 2 miles away. We all split the yummy clam chowder and agreed that it was one of the best clam chowders we had ever tasted. The special of the day was a striped bass on a bed of sauteed spinach with fried onion strings on top. The fish was cooked perfectly and the accompaniments were great choices. Two of us had the oyster poboys which were delicious- especially with the tasty remoulade sauce.

Not sure if this is a regular thing or not but that seemed to throw off service. (Staff were opening doors to air the place out, etc.). A table next to us was really upset about the service - ours was just fine (same waitress even). Bottom line is that the food was outstanding. I definitely recommend ordering at least one of their specials, whether it be appetizers, entrees, or better yet, all of them. The regular menu is solid but cannot compare to the quality of the daily specials.
The atmosphere has a NC beach feel. It's rustic but if you want to dress up you'll feel just as comfortable as the patrons who are wearing jeans and t-shirts.
