  • "We wanted to dine by the water and this was the place. Folly beach is a happening place and very touristy, but Blu allows you to have fine dining right in the middle of the beach front excitement. Great menu and food, excellent service and it's right on the beach. You can go inside for quiet and relaxed w/ great beach view or on deck outside with with a large wooden deck and open air bar. Decor is modern and trendy and the walls between you and the beach are all glass so you can see everything. Have reservations during busy season and be aware parking is difficult if you are not a hotel guest."

  • "Normally would not like to eat in a hotel restaurant unless I'm in a city and even then it has to have a great reputation. Blu offers the only 'fine dining' option at Folly Beach so a captive audience. Food was fresh and flavorful though more fresh vegetables would have been appreciated with each dish. Bar scene got a little rowdy as the night went on (from about 10pm) so a romantic dinner was out of the question unless you sat inside which was a little sterile. Waiters were attentive and informed about the ingredients - local and fresh. Nice for outdoor dining with view of the pier and beach."

Both dishes came out looking incredible, perfect proportion and very colorful just needed to be seasoned. Had also indicated in OpenTable that we were celebrating an anniversary and no acknowledgment of this either when we arrived for our reservation or while we were dining. "

  • "We made a reso for 8 AM. When we arrived there were only two other tables seated-they were not busy at all. We sat outside and a server brought us menus and water. This would be the last time anyone voluntarily noticed us. No one ever came to take our drink or food order. There was a breakfast buffet inside so we helped ourselves. Halfway through our meal, my husband stopped a server and asked for coffee and juice. Then that server sent the other one over and we again asked for drinks. We were done with our meal by the time they arrived. We still had menus on the table. The food was awful. I expected continental hotel breakfast food, but the biscuits were hard as rocks, the potatoes dry-Bleh. Beautiful view, but horrible lack of service. "

Felt like Saved By The Bell Beach Club. Tables around us werent cleared out. And to top it off. IT WASNT EVEN THAT BUSY! You expect a lot more service, attention and food quality from a vacation resort spot. "

  • "The evening did not start off well. Two of us ordered mojito's and our waiter was pretty rude about telling us they were unavailable because they were out of limes. When we expressed disbelief (a bar with no limes??) he made some remark about none to be had and walked off before we could order a substitute. (How were we to know there was a lime shortage??) We had to flag him down. A few words were exchanged but we finally got our drinks and ordered. The shrimp bruchetta was to die for. The pan-roasted grouper, got high marks, as well. The Bistro Terderloin, was "okay" but nothing special. (Wish I'd gotten a few orders of bruchetta for dinner!) We sat outside and the ambiance was pleasant. All in all, we had an enjoyable evening. "

  • "It started when the hostess greeted us with "can you hold on a minute"... The cocktails were made poorly (mint used in mojito were browned and old); it took our server 20 mins to take our dinner order & another 35 mins until the food arrived. It was edible but not great and the server maybe stopped by once. I had to literaly get up and find her so we could get our check.....So many other great places to check out in folly! Don't waste your time here."

  • "Thursday 4/17. Reservation at 7:30. We ordered off of the menu. We watched the tables all around us get excellent service when they ordered at the mercy of the chef. Our experience was quite different. When the food finally came it was delivered by the manager. My wife and I let him know that we were disappointed with the lack of service. We had hoped that this might change our experience but nothing improved. Our glasses were left empty repeatedly. and our empty plates sat on the table for what seemed like an eternity. The new head Chef was making the rounds and stopped to ask how the food was. He seemed very surprised when we explained our experience. He asked that we return another night and give them another try. Dinner took 2 hours."

  • "Make a reservation. Small and intimate. BLU has a creative menu with good service tucked into a smaller format of a two story house. Outside porch for maybe 4 tables. No waiting area inside so if you decide to walk up, be prepared to wait outside. Service was good. Food quality and presentations were excellent. Fried chicken was perfect as was the pasta with shrimp. If you only have a few days in town BLU should be one of your stops"

  • "We went to Blu's for lunch and chose the restaurant because we wanted to be on the beach and it had a good rating. One menu choice was a choice of cornbread shrimp, oysters or flounder. They were out of the oysters and flounder, so we had shrimp. It was good, but I don't think it was just caught shrimp."

  • "The service was excellent. The lighting was much brighter than we expected. Not the romantic oceanside experience we were hoping for. We called ahead to see if they would be able to prepare a vegan meal and they were incredibly accomodating. Our waiter knew when we arrived. Being restaraunt week, they were having a 3 for $30...app, entree, and dessert. We said we were not planning on having any kind of dessert so just an app and entree would be great. When we got out bill I was shocked at the price of our meal. $28 for a small salad and a vegetable plate. It was good...but for that same price, they have steak and chicken on the menu...and meat cost MUCH more than vegetables. We won't be going back."

We were thrilled to find such a nice restaurant with availability following our canceled plans at Anson on Christmas Eve due to a fire in their kitchen. So sorry for Anson's and were so pleased to find Blu's on Christmas day. We have a wonderful dinner with extraordinary view. My husband, Kenneth Holseberg, is a native of James Island and we have lived in Mt. Pleasant for 23 yrs. Very seldom go to Folly but was a treat on Christmas day.   • "We live in Charleston and I have wanted to try Blu out for some time, however, I was very disappointed. While possessing one of the most wonderful spots on Folly Beach, the inside of the restaurant is very dated and the food was mediocre for the prices - obviously one pays for the view. We had brunch items and quantity prevailed over quality. Biscuits and fried chicken appeared "warmed up". Our waitress was attentive and gave it a go, but when the food is just "so-so" and the décor is fully lacking, it is difficult to make it work. We were there when it was a bit chilly to sit outside. In summertime with a drink and a snack, outside, it possibly would be much better."

  • "We enjoyed talking with the young, talented chef of Blu. He puts a lot of thought into technique and the local, sustainable products he selects. The proteins for our dishes, scallops for one and fish for the other, we're perfectly cooked, and the risotto was plump and flavorful. Although we each had our opinions on seasoning and certain products, I think this chef has great promise, and diners will not be disappointed."
