BLT Steak DCNice Welcome BackI had not gone to BLT Steak for dinner in quite some time as new steak houses and new restaurants abound in DC. It was a nice welcome back to see the restaurant doing well and the food consistent. We were seated at a corner booth table as requested and even though the server was busy, he was engaged and humorous. Oysters, shrimp, and clams were great. The claw was unimpressive. Hangar steak was great. The popovers were weird and unnecessary. I much preferred the bread that was brought out with with pâté.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Birthday DinnerTurning 35, I mean 28, was hard. Thankfully a wonderful dinner at BLT was all I needed. We had a reservation for 10:15 - but decided we wanted to sit at the bar, which was quite full at the time. The hostess was gracious enough to ask a single diner who had empty seats on either side of him if he would mind sliding down one.
Our bartender was wonderful - the food was amazing. Oysters and Bacon to start. NY Strip was cooked perfectly, the asparagus was delicious. The only think that did not hit the spot was the jalapeño mashed potatoes. I was hoping for normal mashed with bits of peppers - instead the are a green puree resembling baby food - and boy were they spicy.
Dessert on the house for my birthday was a nice touch.

I will definitely visit another BLT location.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMEven Great for Non Meat Eaters!I haven't eaten meat in 22 years but still find plenty to enjoy at BLT Steak! The seafood, fish and salads are all delicious (the tuna tartar app is wonderful!). I could easily have a piping hot popover (be careful not to burn yourself!) and a salad or app and be completely satisfied. I've been told the steaks are the best around (and giving my lab's reaction to a few leftovers I'd say that must be right).
Be sure to save room for the Peanut Butter Mousse dessert! You won't be disappointed. Expect to drop a lot of cash, or better yet use an expense account if you can!
Service is great as well and there is a nice outdoor patio area if the weather is nice.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMPink is not pinkGreat food and service was great unless you questioned or disagreed. Then, beware. I specifically requested my steak be pink not red and was assured by waiter and shown on menu that cooking the steak to medium would have a pink center. It was not, it was blood red and I had to send it back and didn't get it until until others at table had finished their meal. When I got the filet cooked as I requested it was delicious. Several nice touches: delicious popovers, pate de foie gras. Starve yourself before you go: the portion sizes are humongous. Tried both the 12 oz Filet and the 10 oz. Wagyu Top Cap. Preferred the Filet over the Wagyu. Roasted Asparagus and Brussels Sprouts with honey and bacon. We left nothing on the plates. She'd eased herself back into eating meats over the past 4 months and was ready for the real deal. We took her to BLT. Her prime dry-aged NY Strip was the perfect 'welcome back'. We received great descriptions and recommendations. Although the restaurant was noisy, it was not unpleasant or rowdy, rather maintaining a real "hot spot" feel. I would definitely recommend BLT Steak for groups, but date night it is a little loud. Despite this, the food was magnificent. I had the special braised veal which was absolutely divine. We really enjoyed the wagu steaks, they had the tenderness and flavor unlike any other cut of meat. And most importantly they were seasoned and cooked to perfection for everyone at the table. The sides and pop overs were also outstanding. The service could have been better, I dont like to have to ask to place my order but it was a lively sat night and I am going to give that a pass as the server was knowledgeable about the food and wines.
I cant wait until my next trip to DC so I can come back. Easily the best steak I've had. The whole atmosphere and food make for a wonderful night out. The wine list is extensive with helpful sommeliers. The food was wonderful and portions were big enough for my husband I to share. The make an excellent cappuchino as well. My steak was cooked to perfection. The wait staff was excellent, they did not hover and always seemed to know when drinks needed to be refilled. The Bone in NY Strip was magnificent. Dry aged perfectly and cooked just the way I like it, Pittsburg Black n Blue. Had an amazing spicy tequila cocktail at the bar which I recommend to all. For an we ordered the steak tar-tar. We'd never tried but thought we'd be adventurous. Glad we did because the seasoning was amazing and overall great light app to share! My sister and I both ordered filet mignon which we were shocked at the 12oz portion size.... They both perfectly cooked however unfortunately couldn't finish.
