The food was great, new and quite
innovative menu - we ended up ordering a second round of food we enjoyed it so much! In doing so the overall price was pretty high, you remember that you're on Bay St and most will be pulling out the corporate card to pay - luckily we did too. We were there on a Tuesday night (9pm booking) and it was pretty lively - a little more than I was expecting. Don't get me wrong, it's great if you're going with friends or clients you're happy to kick back, have drinks however we were having some work related discussions and the noise levels were a little too high. Not a criticism of the restaurant at all, this was my first time there so not a great choice of venue on my part for those types of 'work' dinners."

The food was great and the service
friendly and quick, but the atmosphere was a turnoff. Waitresses sitting on client laps. Loud and brash Bay Streeters that are rude and act as if they own the place. The unisex washroom is uncomfortable and of curious design. I wouldn't return. The place is kind of seedy."

After viewing some of the reviews
on here, I realized they do not do this place justice. For those who are looking for a quiet, reserved, and frankly boring restaurant to quickly eat and leave - well this place is NOT for you. This is an energetic, fun atmosphere that is fit for people who are looking for something different to go with their amazing sushi. The liveliness of this place is so unique and hip for a sushi restaurant and we loved it. Would definitely go back."

Service was delightful at
Blowfish. The creativity in their own sushi creations was notable. When it comes to simpler maki or sushi though, it is difficult for a restaurant to really distinguish itself. Let me also state my bias. The room for excellence in sushi is far more limited than in the full range of Japanese food. Quite simply, my reticence to recommend Blowfish is based on value for money. The three of us EACH had about 9 pieces of maki and one small hand roll. Add to that two teas, an edamame and one dessert. An all-in cost of $175 for three people just seemed too much for that. In fairness, if you want a beautiful ambience and some creative sushi, and if the cost is not an issue for you, then this is a fine choice."

I've been to hole in the wall
sushi place that had better food for a fraction of the price. Was not happy at all. Would not go back!"

My husband I were really looking
forward to a romantic dinner out on a recent weekend retreat to Toronto. A friend had recommended Blowfish and we booked our tables several weeks in advance. The server was very nice and helpful but the noise level was so high we couldn't carry on a conversation. The food was tasty but portions were small and items arrived in strange order (our drinks arrived just before we finished our last dish). I cannot say that we would return, there are too many other places to try and it wasn't outstanding."

First time patron and will
definitely be back again and again.Everything we ordered was delicious and so fresh. The staff attentative and friendy."

This place never disappoints.
Everything tastes better here from sashimi, to sushi to their mains. It's surprisingly cheap for lunch and great for lunch meetings. Its quiet and subtly impressive."

I would recommend this restaurant
to a friend but I would quantify it by saying that it is very expensive and perhaps not the best value for your money. The food is very good. They do a good job of creating interesting combinations in their dishes. It isn't somewhere that I personally would choose to go often but I would return."

I dined on friday night with a
friend and my son, the waiter was incredibly helpful and made sure our dining experience was outstanding. Truly enjoyed the experience and look forward to the next time."
Dined on 2/7/2014
Had to come back to OpenTable and
post about how fabulous my experience was. Great food; decent prices for the financial district. The binaga-albacore nigiri was to die for. Simplicity at its finest! Will be back for lunch again. Great place for a meeting."

At first, we were most impressed
with the service: the beautiful front desk hostess has been very nice, patient and accommodating, not to mention her friendly, sincere smile. We found the waiters were fast and polite, knowledgeable and helpful. Good wine choices. As for the food, my favorite were the red hot curry salmon - I would have liked it a bit spicier, but probably, that's me -, the blue snow roll, the kiwi lobster and arugula beet rolls. The place is extremely clean in all its areas, I was very pleased with the setting and atmosphere, including the music. It was my first visit, I will definitely return and will recommend Blowfish to all my friends. All in all, a great experience, BRAVO!"

The cod I had was perfectly
cooked. It was tender and tasty. I like the small dishes."

I am a big fan of blowfish. After
my first dining experience here I would highly recommend it. It is a perfect middle ground between everyday sushi places like Tone and New generation but not quite as much of a production as places like Ja Bistro. The ambience and decor was elegant but not intimidating and the staff was very friendly. Little weird that they are all brunettes, but I am a blondes man myself... Either way definitely check this place out if you are in the area! You wont be disappointed!!"

Okay so being a sushi fanatic, I
was on a mission to try all of Toronto's "hype" sushi restaurants. Stumbled upon Blowfish on Bay when my boyfriend and I were walking through the Financial district one day and remembered my friend talking about this restaurant fondly some time ago. We went in and the hostess was so gracious; taking our coats in the, get this, FREE coatcheck... Yup. She walked us to our table which seemed like a VIP table as we were the only ones in a nook by this floor to ceiling window! All the food we ordered arrived quickly and our server was fantastic and incredibly knowledgeable! By far one of the better sushi experiences I've had! Not to mention making a reso was super easy. We will be back for sure"

Went in and was pleasantly
surprised by the quality of the food, the ambiance, and the service! Couldn't be more satisfied!!! Definitely coming back; also thinking of hosting a corporate event at this location."

First time visiting Blowfish's 2nd
location and it was a good time, but we were there on a Tuesday evening, which is slower than most other evenings. It's more of a Bay Street hangout, and with a hockey game on, there wasn't a lot of energy in the place. Didn't take away from the great meal and attentive service. But we're waiting for the original to finish their renovations. Also, one of our favourite dishes - the hot stone wagyu beef has been taken off the menu, which was a disappointment at first, until we tried their replacement wagyu steak in the saltiest soy broth you can imagine. It totally worked and brought out the steak flavour - you should maybe share this dish as it's pretty potent. All in all, a good time with a group of 4."

I was here for a friend's bday
celebration & Blowfish was her choice. We all had a great time as the booth allowed us our privacy to celebrate (although the music did get a little too loud for us, but we were almost done at that point). Service was wonderful. I was trying sushi for the first time and loved everything! I am hoping I can convince my husband to come and try as well. Thank you, Helen"

Booked this restaurant last minute
in hopes of finding good sushi, it did not disappoint! Somewhat pricey considering how small some of the dishes were, but worth it. I would definitely return. Menu was not overwhelming, but still had a great variety."
Dined on 1/18/2014
Excellent service and great good
recommendations from our server. Highly recommend this restaurant!"
Dined on 1/3/2014
great food and service but volume
was so loud we all had sore throats from shouting, good for hip after work crowd, but not for fine dining with conversation"
Dined on 12/12/2013
We enjoyed our dinner, the food is
very good, so is the service. The washroom is not to be missed."
Dined on 12/3/2013
very noisy, couldn't hear my guest
speak. Seemed louder than usual."
Dined on 12/5/2013
We were given a menu to choose the
wine. When we ordered it later in the meal, they denied that the menu they had given us listed the wine at half price . The waiter kept returning to our table every five minutes interrupting our dinner to challenge us again about it and never ever made a suggestion for an alternate at that price point. NONE OF US, agreed with her and then the meal was over. She ruined the experience entirely. We called over the manager who started the same thing. So I pointed out to him that all he needed to do was offer an alternate wine at that price point and stop with the forensics! He apologized and as we were paying offered as each a glass of wine on the house. He should have done something 45 min earlier."

A great spot for lunch with high
quality sushi - rice that sticks but is not mushy, presentation that is imaginative and flavours that highlight the ingredients."
Dined on 11/26/2013
The spicy Tuna on Crispy rice is
still my favourite dish at this restaurant, and it was again very good. The Sashimi was so-so, only the salmon was actually nice out of the 3 we had. I was not impressed with the dessert option - the waiter left us with the menu after pushing the "green tea cupcake" a new addition, did not tell us that they had discontinued the doughnuts (Restaurants - please change your menus!!!) which was what we really wanted. We opted to try the cupcakes which, in a word, were AWFUL."
Dined on 11/25/2013
We were very disappointed with the
food. The dishes were bland, cold and uninspired. The shrimp that steamed on the rocks was bland and ridiculous! The almond crusted calamari seemed like it was frozen calamari rings and the batter was burnt! the meal culminated in the worst desert I've had in a restaurant, bitter dry chocolate cake."

Having visited both Blowfish
restaurants, the quality is divine and the same. You get what you pay for. I had visited the one on King about 8 years ago and was delighted. Visited TO 2 years ago but it was closed on Sunday evening. This time around, my fiance had heard enough of Blowfish that she was looking forward to dining there. As a meeting planner, she was impressed with the setting and the great service we received from Tosha at the bar. Always attentive and very sociable. Already looking forward to our next dining experience at either Blowfish. Thanks Tosha!"

First time at Blowfish, and it was
great. Service was perfect, food was very good and interesting, and the waiter had good recommendations. Will go back"
Dined on 10/30/2013
The food is not very impressive,
but the quality of service is pretty good."
Dined on 11/1/2013
No what I was expecting at all.
Looked and felt more like a sports bar."
Dined on 10/30/2013
Blowfish has stark and
incomprehensible decor, accentuated by a strange "industrial leftovers" wall that separates the bar from the diners...but don;t turn around luckily the food is superb. From the excellent miso soup, the tasty "shooters" to the sashimi, sushi and hand rolls, all were excellent both in presentation and execution...on top of this the service is impeccable, friendly and knowledgeable."
Dined on 10/24/2013
I love everything about this
restaurant. Especially the sushi"
Dined on 10/22/2013
I do think this place is a bit
pricey but it definitely worth eating here for special occasions or once in awhile. They have great sushi. You must have the rock shrimp spicy tuna roll. It is by far the best sushi roll I've ever had and I love sushi. The sake is good and not too bad for the price. The staff is always helpful and charming. I've been here twice and haven't been disappointed yet."
Dined on 10/22/2013
I've heard about your restaurant
from city events like the Toronto International Film Festival, to friends who have been. I'm glad that I could entice my bff to join me their for dinner after our girls' day out. The food, drinks and service were all fantastic! We're already trying to plan another day to go back :)"
Dined on 10/18/2013
Went this weekend, was surprised
how empty the Bay St. location was and found the service nothing special. I would recommend the King St. location b/c its busy and fun, not the same here. Food was ok, the hostess was our server and the bartender, found that weird."
Dined on 10/6/2013
Disappointed because the king
location is so much better in sat night. Over priced for the experience. Menu was much better in previous visits. Very good food but drinks and food at king st visits were better Our server however was really good. Not a knock on the service."
Dined on 9/29/2013
I've been to Blowfish for lunch a
few times and it was fine so I took clients here for dinner and the food was a big disappointment. It's very expensive for the quality that we got. There was a problem with one of our dishes and we sent it back but they didn't remove from the bill. I was with clients so didn't want to challenge it. The service was good aside from that and I like the room."
