A word from Blokes & Birds
Blokes&Birds is a public house. But more than that, it manifests our personal affinity with English Pub Culture. Take a dash of world travel, a love of brilliant food & drink, a healthy curiousity & throw in a consummate appreciation of good company and that will give you a good idea of where we come from.

To our regulars, always feel welcome and always be yourselves. We’re your comfort spot and your place to welcome friends of your own. To new friends, we aspire to be the exciting first date that feels surprisingly comfortable & pleasantly familiar. In the end, we hope to inhabit the intersection of being home & being out—where conversations flow & good vibes float freely around the room like old friends. Blokes & Birds may not be an English pub in the strictest sense, but we hope in our own way that we’ve captured the soul of one.

  • "The food was great! The list of scotch and whiskey is vast, many I have never seen before. The live music was awesome. We had to wait a long time for our server on multiple occasions. At one point, we had to go ask the hostess to find him so we could get our bill. I would still go back."

  • "and Blokes and Birds did not disappoint. Great pub food, and elevated entrees. Delicious cocktails, and friendly service."

  • "My family went for my dad's birthday after a Cubs game. It's much quieter than the other neighborhood spots and the food was top-notch. It's hard to please my father, but the beer list, the food, and our amazing server did it. Will be back soon."

  • "Great neighborhood feel to this place. I ordered the grilled halibut that was on the menu and our server described for me, only to have him return a few minutes later to inform us that unbeknownst to him that item was no longer served there but had been replaced with a much different type of fish (swordfish), so I switched to the pork chop which was beautifully spiced and lean and tender. Partner ordered the $10 (it was Thursday) fish and chip special and thought it was one of the best he's had. Fries were the best -- not oversalted and nice and crisp. Will definitely return."

  • "I've always heard how lousy English food is. Perhaps authentic English restaurants could learn a thing or two from Blokes & Birds. After sampling my Amish chicken, my wife said, "That chicken is phenomenal... and I don't even like chicken!""

  • "Absolutely fantastic! We originally had just come for dinner to celebrate a friend's birthday. Each of ordered something different off the menu and each item was fantastic. The cocktails were also superb. We asked the live musician to sing happy birthday and we were obliged. We were brought desert and had a chance to go to the karaoke bar downstairs which was a ton of fun. The restaurant is always buzzing with people and has a good vibe going on for sure. Overall, I would say this place is amazing no matter what you're looking for whether it's a fun night of singing, a trendy bar scene, or just good food. The place is incredible and you won't be left disappointed. "

  • "Service was just not on point, which was unfortunate. Food was delicious nonetheless. Live music was nice, though a bit loud. I really wanted to like it, but the service was so off that it was hard to enjoy the experience. Next time, I would go as a bar patron (where you can still order the delicious food)."

  • "This place is great. We went on a Friday and it was crowded but not jammed. The food was great and very reasonably priced. The server paced the food well and provided great recommendations. We will definitely be back again! "

  • "I had ordered a moscow mule at the time of my recent visit. I enjoyed it , though it was not served in a copper cup. The waitress said they can make it but it wasn't on the menu, though I recall a time where there were a variety of different types of moscow mules on the menu (different flavors & liquor type). She said she had never known the restaurant to have moscow mules on their menu & that she has worked there for over 2 years. She was a bit rude about it, and honestly, I'd bet money that she was incorrect. I have an exceptional memory...beside that case, the atmosphere, food, live music were very good."

  • "Wrigleyville has a lot of new places, Blokes and Birds is great new find. I have been there twice in the past few weeks and each time it was great! The food and drinks were spot on each time with a great new modern/comfortable feeling."

  • "This place is very loud and dark, but if you are cool with that vibe, it is a lot of fun and very tasty. We ordered apps and sides and shared them tapas style, which I would recommend. Randomly there was live music but it was all random soft rock music. Like all my Mom's favorite songs. Opposite of cool musicwise, but I still had a great time. Give it a try. Bacon wrapped dates ya'll!"

  • "This place might be great to catch up with friends over a beer, but avoid it for bunch. Dirty dishes, terrible service, and constant excuses that just started to border on the ridiculous by the end of the meal (we can't make you a salad because the chef isn't here; i brought you two fruit dish sides and can't take one back because it's already been charged; it's going to take too long to make chicken, etc, etc)... No thanks! Never again, which is a shame since it's got a nice flair to it."

  • "Our night started at the bar where the man with the handlebar mustache impressed us with his knowledge of beer! Next came our server who was attentive but didn't hover. I had the chopped salad which was not only the best I've had, it wasn't the usual double size that is such a waste of food. (I finished it!) Ted synced with the vibe of our group and ended our evening with a suggestion of the perfect after dinner car bomb. (Banana bread taste?)"

  • "Blokes and Birds is fun, lively and has great food. I'm kind of a burger snob and these burgers (beef and lamb) are delicious. The brussell sprouts and bacon were also yummy. And the restaurant offers a great variety of unusual beers. The owner, Jade, was totally cool and helped me find a table for me and my kids on Saturday night when the bar was packed with St. Patty's day Leprechauns and revelers. The waitstaff and bartenders were all super nice and helpful. There was a live guitarist/singer, which made talking somewhat difficult, but it wasn't overpowering and everyone had a great evening."

  • "Blokes & Birds offers high end meals, in a casual environment, for a very reasonable price. I experienced friendly & attentive service, a cool atmosphere, nice beer selection, and unique, tasty cocktails. However, the greatest thing about this restaurant is the food! Both my husband and I were blown away by the taste and presentation of our entrees. I would highly recommend the Fish & Chips, and my husband was literally going on about the Amish Chicken for days. I've never checked out the downstairs karoake bar, but I expect we will be back."

  • "Took my valentine here for a late dinner. Had reservations & were seated right away. But then we waited half an hour before we even had a drink in front of us. We ordered immediately, waited 45 for our starters, then never recieved our mains. There appeared to be only one waitress working the entire floor, and she was running around frantically. We felt really bad for her. When she finally made it to our table to ask if we wanted dessert, we asked if our entrees would be ready soon & and she said that she thought we had already received them. We left hungry & dissapointed."

  • "This bar/resteraunt is a real Gem. I went here because the girl I was seeing loved english things and saw the name, I was expecting typical upscale bar. I was wrong their food is absolutely delicious and their prices are reasonable. After you are fuinished with dinner there is a kareoke lounge on the bottom level which is a complete departure from the eating up top. Set up in a sort of club type decor with comfortable benches and a lot of lights it has almost a split personality that really sets it apart in a good way."

  • "I went to brunch at Blokes & Birds right in the middle of the HUGE snow storm we're currently STILL in the middle of.... the service was great, food was fantastic, and I can't wait to get back again ASAP!"

  • "My wife and I recently went for a casual dinner on a Friday night. The food was excellent and the place has an energetic vibe. Impressed by the current shrimp and scallops, Blokes burger, and porkchop. They have a decent beer and wine list as well. Our waiter was extremely friendly. We didn't have the quickest service, as it took about an hour for our food to arrive. But the waiter was attentive in the meantime and we weren't in any hurry. As we were leaving, the live music was getting go, which added to the fun environment. I would definitely recommend Blokes & Birds for a casual night out for a couple or group of friends!"

  • "We came here as a small group of friend looking for a new neighbourhood place. While the food and drinks were good, this is definitely a place for dinner if you're going to Wrigleyville later on in the evening."

  • "The beer list here is pretty great. They had several craft selections to choose from, and all of them were good picks. I had the shepherd's pie for dinner, and it was one of the best versions of this dish I've ever had. Thick, savory gravy - salty, but not overwhelmingly so, with good spice - tender lamb and vegetables, and a perfect mashed potato "crust" that was crispy on top but soft and buttery underneath. Delicious. My date had the seven spice tuna. I wasn't bowled over by the seven spices, but the tuna was seared correctly, and the wasabi mashed potatoes were excellent. Decor is very nice (upscale lounge meets British pub?), the music was unobtrusive, and the server was polite and attentive. I would definitely recommend."

  • "My friend and I had brunch here before the Cubs game and it was great food! The drinks complimented the brunch entrees very well and the brunch menu offered a wide-variety of options, both savory and sweet, sure to please anyone! I haven't been here for the dinner menu, but brunch most certainly did not disappoint!"

  • "The last two times I've been to Blokes and Birds have been terrible, and I wont be going again. When this bar opened it was really good, however its declined fast. The main issue is the terrible, terrible service - It's horribly understaffed. They seemed to have one server for the entire bar, and she was also doubling as the host - this was the case the last two times I went. To be fair, the food is actually good, however not worth putting up with the service to get to it. It's sad - as this is a good venue, and used to be a good bar/restaurant. I really hope it gets back on track"

  • "I've always been a fan of this restaurant for dinner & brunch. But I came in the past Sunday with a group of 8 for a reservation at 12:30pm. We had to wait 45 minutes for our table with a reservation. Nothing was done to remedy that situation. No free drink or app. Service was miserable. The server clearly had no sense of humor or personality. And to top it all off, they must have had a sale on salt at the grocery store. I think we all had our sodium intake for the month. Never again. They lost a good customer and 7 other potential customers. Shame."

  • "We had a large last minute group of 10 and they were able to accomodate us graciously at a large harvest table! The food was top notch, great craft beers and specialty cocktails, plus Live music! We heard rumors of kareoke downstairs but missed the window and found it pretty crowded by 10:30. We'll definitly have to go back another time for kareoke. Great service and atmosphere as well!"

  • "I went with three friends to a Sunday Brunch. Everything was great! Friendly, attentive staff. The mimosas were fresh and had berries in the bottom of the glass which was very refreshing. All four of our entrees were great!"

  • "Taps weren't working, most of the beer list was missing and the waiter was pretty much nonexistent during most of our meal. Food (Fish n Chips and Shepherds Pie), while quick to come out, was quite bland. Cherry infused bourbon is great though."

  • "I was very excited to try this place! The food options and drink list had my friend and I looking forward to our quick dinner together! However, the service was not up to par. It took at least 25 minutes for me to order and get my first drink. And overall a quick dinner that I had planned an hour for-very easily became more than that. The ambiance and decor was great and I wish I had a better experience, because I could have totally seen myself planning dinner and drinks here often if I had a better service experience."

  • "This may have been because they were short on staff the night we went in, but the service wasn't very great, and it was also really inconsistent -- for example: we waited a long time at the front until we got seated or even acknowledged (it wasn't even busy), and then the timing was way off with our service, like when we got our water, received our cocktails, our appetizers, then entrees. With all that aside, our waiter was very very nice, but definitely had a lot on his plate; I would suggest having more waitstaff on at once so they can be more attentive. Also, the food was good. Some great and unique options that were very flavorful. Considering how great the menu looked, I set my bar kind of high for the quality, but it was still yummy!"

  • "Tried open table for the first time last Saturday night and settled on Blokes and Birds. The four of us arrived and were seated promptly. Water with a hint cucumber which was a pretty nice start to our meal. We split a Brussel sprout w bacon appetizer and it we devoured it. For main course to of us had the sparerib sandwich which was excellent. A very nice combination of flavors from the aoili (sp), onion strings, and Havarti cheese. Hank enjoyed his chicken dish (by enjoyed I thought Hank was going to actually lick the plate clean). The pork fat potato side was unusually tasty for a potato My wife liked her chicken curry with a glass of a Chilean Malbec. The combination worked very well together. Service was outstanding. (A+)"
