A word from Blokes & Birds
Blokes&Birds is a public house. But more than that, it manifests our personal affinity with English Pub Culture. Take a dash of world travel, a love of brilliant food & drink, a healthy curiousity & throw in a consummate appreciation of good company and that will give you a good idea of where we come from.

To our regulars, always feel welcome and always be yourselves. We’re your comfort spot and your place to welcome friends of your own. To new friends, we aspire to be the exciting first date that feels surprisingly comfortable & pleasantly familiar. In the end, we hope to inhabit the intersection of being home & being out—where conversations flow & good vibes float freely around the room like old friends. Blokes & Birds may not be an English pub in the strictest sense, but we hope in our own way that we’ve captured the soul of one.

Diner Reviews
  • "meh, this place was incredibly loud for a dinner spot. At one point they had made it even louder by having a guy with a guitar sing into a mic. I was on my way to a concert at the Metro, so we made a stop here and you would think I would be prepared for a loud night....but no. The food all had cream and cheese in it, everything we ordered. So if you are dairy free, this is not a place to order freely. One item didn't come out but still made its way onto the bill. As did the charge for rocks ($2) for our table member who ordered his beverage on the rocks. I'm sure they have their reasons, but it's just a silly way to mark up the bill. Overall, just kind of unimpressed and not loving it. Overpriced and loud."

  • "Both meals plus our appetizer were really tasty (soft pretzel with cheese, gnocchi, swordfish) and the server was friendly, had good reccomendations, and even fixed our wobbly table with some extra coasters."

  • "good food, drinks sound interesting (I'll have to come back to try them when I'm not pregnant!) and a significant step up from the restaurants just north on Clark for a dinner option near Wrigley."

  • "Excellent food, but service needs improvement. We asked for bread, which took too long in coming, then we were charged extra for it! The waiter talked way too fast and seemed more interested in getting back to the game he was watching on t.v."

  • "We were disappointed in the service. We waited an hour for our food to arrive. One member of our party had to wait longer because they forgot to put her order in. Our water glasses remained empty the whole time we were waiting for our food. We won't go back."

  • "We almost didn't go in even after we paid for parking and had a reservation. Why? They are nor wheelchair accessible. Not ADA compliant. You need to negotiate a step. I broke my "rule" and spent my money there even tho as a handicapped person I had to have an embarrassing time with many helpers just to get my chair and I into the door. The service was terrific. The three cheese & guiness fondue= delicious, as was the "Cheesy peavey" = baked apple with brie in the center; charcuterie tray was well put together. They were out of their waygu carpaccio. Panzanella was disappointing because the heirloom tomatoes were not at their peak. Lamb burger= ok, pork tenbderloin= good. They have an impressive beer list."

  • "Very poor service. Is all I can say. It took 10-15 minutes before someone came to our table. And once our order was placed it took almost 40minutes for our food to arrive. This was for brunch not to mention the place had maybe 3 other tables seated. Thankfully the food was great and the server was nice but I could only imagine the service when this place is busier. Will not be returning unfortunately."

  • "The customer service was great. This was my first time there and I choice the $12 burger special, it was good just a little confused because there was so top bum(didn't know if it was supposed to be like that) and there wasn't any choices I could of chose from. I felt like it was only given what every was cheap. People were great, great location. Just wish there was a little bit more to on the specials."

  • "Blokes and Birds is a decent place on a street teeming with decent places. It's not great, but I suspect you won't e disappointed by anything either. I found the menu a bit too cute in terms of British references, but the food was good and so was the service. So...it's a good place where you probably won't be disappointed, but not on my go-to list."

  • "After living in London for several months the one thing I missed was a great local Gastropub. Well Blokes & Birds is IT! Upon entering the restaurant I was instantly reminded of one of my favorite pubs in London. It's a very comfortable environment with natural wood furnishings and a social atmoshpere. The restaurant can easily accommodate both professional or casual clientele without I alienating either group. Next is the menu. Superb options all around. I was celebrating my 29th birthday with 6 of my friends and we were all blown away by the option AND the quality. Blokes & Birds takes traditional pub fare and add unique and delicious twists to them! Try the Mussels w/ Beer & Bacon broth! The Chicken Tikka is superb, as are the Prawns! A+"

  • "The food had a unique and incredible taste. We had the Amish Chicken and Fish and Chips. Both were amazing, service was great. The only thing is that it was very loud at the bar so we had to chat loudly."

  • "Really enjoyed my first experience at Blokes & Birds. All of the food was good..some of it great! Scotch egg, Serrano wrapped grilled mozzarella were awesome apps...tuna tar tare was good, but I would have preferred it with more depth of flavors. Burger was outstanding. Service was spotty, but server was knowledgeable and friendly. I would definitely go back!"

  • "We stopped here prior to the Billy Joel concert at Wrigley field and it was awesome! The beverage list was amazing and their price points were not outrageous. The food menu looked very interesting and crossed many different tastes; Indian, English, American, etc. Granted we were only upstairs; however, I did head downstairs to check out the bar set up which looks like a ton of fun, when it's open. So I will for sure be heading back to check out the additional things this place has to offer!"

  • "Blokes and Birds is a great place to go when you want to be in the Wrigley area but don't want to go into a loud bar to eat. Great beer selections and a great spin on some of England's classic dishes. The Chicken Tikka was very good as was the Fish and Chips. It is definitely a place I will go back to."

  • "The food was great! The list of scotch and whiskey is vast, many I have never seen before. The live music was awesome. We had to wait a long time for our server on multiple occasions. At one point, we had to go ask the hostess to find him so we could get our bill. I would still go back."

  • "My family went for my dad's birthday after a Cubs game. It's much quieter than the other neighborhood spots and the food was top-notch. It's hard to please my father, but the beer list, the food, and our amazing server did it. Will be back soon."

  • "Great neighborhood feel to this place. I ordered the grilled halibut that was on the menu and our server described for me, only to have him return a few minutes later to inform us that unbeknownst to him that item was no longer served there but had been replaced with a much different type of fish (swordfish), so I switched to the pork chop which was beautifully spiced and lean and tender. Partner ordered the $10 (it was Thursday) fish and chip special and thought it was one of the best he's had. Fries were the best -- not oversalted and nice and crisp. Will definitely return."

  • "I've always heard how lousy English food is. Perhaps authentic English restaurants could learn a thing or two from Blokes & Birds. After sampling my Amish chicken, my wife said, "That chicken is phenomenal... and I don't even like chicken!""

  • "Absolutely fantastic! We originally had just come for dinner to celebrate a friend's birthday. Each of ordered something different off the menu and each item was fantastic. The cocktails were also superb. We asked the live musician to sing happy birthday and we were obliged. We were brought desert and had a chance to go to the karaoke bar downstairs which was a ton of fun. The restaurant is always buzzing with people and has a good vibe going on for sure. Overall, I would say this place is amazing no matter what you're looking for whether it's a fun night of singing, a trendy bar scene, or just good food. The place is incredible and you won't be left disappointed. "

  • "Service was just not on point, which was unfortunate. Food was delicious nonetheless. Live music was nice, though a bit loud. I really wanted to like it, but the service was so off that it was hard to enjoy the experience. Next time, I would go as a bar patron (where you can still order the delicious food)."

  • "This place is great. We went on a Friday and it was crowded but not jammed. The food was great and very reasonably priced. The server paced the food well and provided great recommendations. We will definitely be back again! "

  • "I had ordered a moscow mule at the time of my recent visit. I enjoyed it , though it was not served in a copper cup. The waitress said they can make it but it wasn't on the menu, though I recall a time where there were a variety of different types of moscow mules on the menu (different flavors & liquor type). She said she had never known the restaurant to have moscow mules on their menu & that she has worked there for over 2 years. She was a bit rude about it, and honestly, I'd bet money that she was incorrect. I have an exceptional memory...beside that case, the atmosphere, food, live music were very good."

  • "Wrigleyville has a lot of new places, Blokes and Birds is great new find. I have been there twice in the past few weeks and each time it was great! The food and drinks were spot on each time with a great new modern/comfortable feeling."

  • "This place is very loud and dark, but if you are cool with that vibe, it is a lot of fun and very tasty. We ordered apps and sides and shared them tapas style, which I would recommend. Randomly there was live music but it was all random soft rock music. Like all my Mom's favorite songs. Opposite of cool musicwise, but I still had a great time. Give it a try. Bacon wrapped dates ya'll!"

  • "Don't plan on a conversation. You won't hear each other. Great beer list so after a while you won't care"

  • "This place might be great to catch up with friends over a beer, but avoid it for bunch. Dirty dishes, terrible service, and constant excuses that just started to border on the ridiculous by the end of the meal (we can't make you a salad because the chef isn't here; i brought you two fruit dish sides and can't take one back because it's already been charged; it's going to take too long to make chicken, etc, etc)... No thanks! Never again, which is a shame since it's got a nice flair to it."

  • "Our night started at the bar where the man with the handlebar mustache impressed us with his knowledge of beer! Next came our server who was attentive but didn't hover. I had the chopped salad which was not only the best I've had, it wasn't the usual double size that is such a waste of food. (I finished it!) Ted synced with the vibe of our group and ended our evening with a suggestion of the perfect after dinner car bomb. (Banana bread taste?)"

  • "Blokes and Birds is fun, lively and has great food. I'm kind of a burger snob and these burgers (beef and lamb) are delicious. The brussell sprouts and bacon were also yummy. And the restaurant offers a great variety of unusual beers. The owner, Jade, was totally cool and helped me find a table for me and my kids on Saturday night when the bar was packed with St. Patty's day Leprechauns and revelers. The waitstaff and bartenders were all super nice and helpful. There was a live guitarist/singer, which made talking somewhat difficult, but it wasn't overpowering and everyone had a great evening."

  • "Blokes & Birds offers high end meals, in a casual environment, for a very reasonable price. I experienced friendly & attentive service, a cool atmosphere, nice beer selection, and unique, tasty cocktails. However, the greatest thing about this restaurant is the food! Both my husband and I were blown away by the taste and presentation of our entrees. I would highly recommend the Fish & Chips, and my husband was literally going on about the Amish Chicken for days. I've never checked out the downstairs karoake bar, but I expect we will be back."

  • "Took my valentine here for a late dinner. Had reservations & were seated right away. But then we waited half an hour before we even had a drink in front of us. We ordered immediately, waited 45 for our starters, then never recieved our mains. There appeared to be only one waitress working the entire floor, and she was running around frantically. We felt really bad for her. When she finally made it to our table to ask if we wanted dessert, we asked if our entrees would be ready soon & and she said that she thought we had already received them. We left hungry & dissapointed."

  • "My wife and I recently went for a casual dinner on a Friday night. The food was excellent and the place has an energetic vibe. Impressed by the current shrimp and scallops, Blokes burger, and porkchop. They have a decent beer and wine list as well. Our waiter was extremely friendly. We didn't have the quickest service, as it took about an hour for our food to arrive. But the waiter was attentive in the meantime and we weren't in any hurry. As we were leaving, the live music was getting go, which added to the fun environment. I would definitely recommend Blokes & Birds for a casual night out for a couple or group of friends!"

  • "The beer list here is pretty great. They had several craft selections to choose from, and all of them were good picks. I had the shepherd's pie for dinner, and it was one of the best versions of this dish I've ever had. Thick, savory gravy - salty, but not overwhelmingly so, with good spice - tender lamb and vegetables, and a perfect mashed potato "crust" that was crispy on top but soft and buttery underneath. Delicious. My date had the seven spice tuna. I wasn't bowled over by the seven spices, but the tuna was seared correctly, and the wasabi mashed potatoes were excellent. Decor is very nice (upscale lounge meets British pub?), the music was unobtrusive, and the server was polite and attentive. I would definitely recommend."
