Diner Reviews
  • "I've had my share of good food and hardly any on the plate, but this one took the plate because it was incredibly expensive. The food wasn't bad but after a few appetizers and dinner we were still quite hungry. My guest and I are still trying to figure out why this place was so over the top in food pricing, the best deal is a $5 beer and a $10 martini that taste like cough syrup. It's better places to go to in Philly."

  • "Saturday pre-concert dinner was mostly pleasant at our second floor table above the entryway. For starters, the three fried oysters were very nice, medium sized and not overly breaded; the grilled baby octopus was a little chewey. They were out of the pocono trout dish we both wanted, so we settled for porcini dusted scallops, which were perfectly cooked, served with beluga lentils and grilled asparagus. For dessert we ordered cappuccino, which arrived hot enough to burn the mouth, and espresso. Our waiter was attentive but sometimes hard to understand, and was unaware of the bar's single malt Scotch offerings. As our meal was ending, the ambience became noisy because of some boisterous walk-ins hoping to be seated without a reservation."

  • "We visited here prior to going to the Academy of Music for a show. The owner was funny and personable. The staff was nice but a little overwhelmed. I think it was unusually busy for lunch that day because of Phantom of the Opera playing. I'd definitely go again because the food was good."

  • "Outstanding lamb porterhouse and trout!!! Highly recommend before a show for quality food and convenient location!"

  • "Food was flavorful, but pasta was a bit hard and I don't think it was worth the money overall."

  • "The last visit to Bliss left something to be desired. On a Monday night, only one waitress worked the entire restaurant. She was apologizing to each table thanking them for being understanding for not paying as much attention to them as she would have liked. She was also the bartender. She did have assistance from a bus boy and from the receptionist at the front of the house. The food was hit or miss. The octopus appetizer was nicely done and presented as were the scallops which were served with a variety of greens. The strip steak, on the other hand, although nicely seasoned, was very difficult to chew and not at all enjoyable. Other visits to this popular restaurant have been much more satisfying."

  • "We had not been to Bliss in a number of years, but chose to stop in for an early dinner after a matinee at the Kimmel Center. It was a cold and rainy day so we appreciated how convenient Bliss is to the Arts District, and the good parking nearby. The waitress was highly mannered and a bit intrusive with her recommendations, but she was efficient. The salad was underdressed, and the short ribs were dry and nearly tasteless. We have been trying some of the newer BYOB restaurants in the 10 block area around Kimmel Center, and these were a far better dining experience in spite of being smaller, more crowded venues."

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our meal, especially the goat cheese crostini and the lamb entree. Perfect for a quiet conversation where everyone could hear one another without shouting."

  • "Great pre-theater 6pm dinner. Had been for lunch previously - dinner was much better. Very friendly service, well prepared and presented food. Pork chop outstanding. Server made sure e had a well paced dinner and were out in time for theater. Will be back."

  • "The restaurant had good reviews but we were disappointed. The service was very good, but the food was disappointing. We both had short ribs which were well flavored but the portions were small. The mashed potatoes tasted instant. The dessert was described as blood orange cake with marscapone creme, but it was tasteless. No drinks, no first course, just the entree, dessert and coffee for $ 80. Disappointing!"

  • "Food was excellent. We enjoyed an appetizer & entree but were too full for dessert. Butternut squash tantelloni in sage brown butter sauce was exquisite with a hint of cinnamon, the short ribs were fork tender. The hanger steak special, served over a stuffed poblano pepper with basmati rice & chorizo, drizzled with chimichurro sauce was extremely flavorful and had some pickled onion that balanced it perfectly. The service was excellent & attentive without being overly so. We went early in the evening & as the restaurant filled, we never felt rushed to finish our coffee and leave. My companion and I would highly recommend Bliss and look forward to returning in another month when they debut their spring menu."

  • "Nice selection on the menu. Atmosphere was a little cold/hollow. Was hoping for a warmer ambiance but our meal was good. I had the short rib was a tiny bit dry but really nice flavor and mostly tender. Nice wine selection and good service. If I had theatre tickets I'd come back."

  • "The short rib soup and shaved fennel salad was great but my pasta dish which was a special was underwhelming. The other people that I dined with enjoyed their entrees . Bar service was excellent"

  • "A nicely paced meal in an upscale yet comfortable restaurant(read: not snooty or stuffy). Service was over the top awesome (Becca). Friendly, yet professional and informative. Started with the butternut squash tortelloni in a butter sage sauce that was outstanding. A rather large appetizer portion. My husband had the Bliss salad that was very good. I chose the meat special (filet Oscar) and my husband had the striped bass romanesco, both were superb. We split a delicious crème brulee for dessert. Solid wine selection although incredibly marked up...but aren't they all? I also enjoyed one of the best chocolate martinis as my dessert. The manager was warm and welcoming Decent prices considering your in the heart of the Avenue of the Arts."

  • "The food at Bliss is wonderful. We had the Balsamic Braised Boneless Short Ribs Chive Whipped Potatoes, Roasted Seasonal Vegetables. The potatoes were the best I have ever had at a restaurant. The vegetables were delicious. The ribs were very tasty. Our server Brian had a wonderful personality. He was attentive without being annoying. He knew what we needed before we knew it. I wanted to adopt him and the chef. I am looking forward to a revisit."

  • "Absolutely Outstanding food and Service! The Roasted Oysters Bienville and Ricotta Cavatelli, as well as Tuna Steak have been among my FAVORITES! Wine list excellent as well! Blood Orange Cake mmmm do not miss this! LITERALLY feet away from the Academy of Music, the Merriam theatre and Kimmel Ctr! You can park in the Parking Lot next to the Park Hyatt (Walnut and Broad) and once you come out THERE is Bliss! A trip into Philly for a wonderful night at the the theatre doesn't get any better or easier than this! I HIGHLY recommend it! A "Blissful" experience indeed!"

  • "Finally, a restaurant in Philly where you can have a conversation at your table without shouting to be heard. We say upstairs. It was very pleasant. Good food. Great location. They validate for parking at the Bellevue. Still expensive to park but that helps. I'd go back. Steaks were perfect. Berry Cobbler was excellent."

  • "My friend and I decided to lunch at Bliss after a matinee at the Kimmel. I had theTaleggio & Pesto Grilled Cheese with a bowl of tomato-basil soup. I was a little worried that the pesto would overwhelm the taleggio, but no need. The sandwich was ooey gooey delicious with a generous amount of cheese, and just enough pesto to catch ones attention with each bite, and paired perfectly with the soup. My friend loved her Bliss Salad, and we finished with gelato (you get two scoops of the same flavor or any mix) and a dish of raspberry sorbet. Service was excellent, attentive but not overly so even with an early lunch hour and few people. By the time we left the place was full, and we know why! We'll be back to try out dinner!"

  • "We went for lunch prior to an afternoon Kimmel concert. Our reservations for 1 pm on Sat. and the restaurant was packed with concert goers. Service was excellent but my companion and I were disappointed with the tortilonni pasta entree. It was under cooked bordering on tough and the tortilonni resembled large unfilled ravioli squares that had been decoratively folded over the filling. However, our friend ordered the hamburger and was well pleased. The Bliss salads we had were excellent. Our servers were pleasant and we did not feel rushed at all. Seating is very close with our chairs almost touching the ones next to us."

  • "This is a great spot for pre-theatre dining, though perhaps a slight splurge. Staff are very pleasant and appear sincere in their wish that you enjoy your meal. Nice variety of dishes with a little extra flair. Fun cocktails and coffees, too. Overall, worth a trip."

  • "We arrived for dinner and were escorted upstairs to a room which was quieter than the main dining area. Our waiter, Kevin, knew we had theater tickets, and couldn't have been more accommodating. Our meal was timed perfectly and was absolutely delicious. The Bliss Salad was delicious, and they even split it between two of us. They had run out of the evening's fish special, but were more than willing to make the striped bass on the menu with the sauce from the evening's special. The bass with the crispy cauliflower was one of the best fish dishes I've had in a long time. My husband had the braised short ribs which were delicious. We didn't have dessert. The meal wasn't inexpensive, but it was worth the price. We will go back!"

  • "This was my fourth or fifth lunch at Bliss. I was disappointed in the entree that I ordered. My dining partner enjoyed his very much. I also thought the flourless chocolate cake was quite dry. All previous visits had been wonderful. But this visit left me wanting."

  • "Business lunch- looking for a different place away from the 16-18th street standards. Found that morning- was absolutely wonderful - also understand there is a new chef- who is outstanding! My associates and I frequent Philly lunch dining all over center city and this was our first time at Bliss. I am so sad I waited so long - I cannot rave enough about the food (quality/presentation/taste) the service - from greeting to seating to dining - wonderful!! And this is all put together by terrific ownership and management. These folks truly care about their customers. Will return time and time again - both personally and professionally."

  • "We both ordered the cavatelli as you were out of the butternut squash tortelloni. The pasta and beans were not fully cooked as both were hard/tough. The Bliss salad however was delicious."

  • "The changes in their kitchen have yielded good results. Food is now very good consistently, and the servers are well trained. We appreciated Bryan's skill and personality -- he got us served and out in plenty of time for our performance. Food and atmosphere were both very nice."

  • "We had to ask for a change in table since it was too cold for me to sit in the window. This was done with no problem. The meal was quite tasty: my husband had the scallops and I had the short ribs. The chocolate torte was sumptuous. Our waiter, Brian, was helpful and non-obtrusive but efficient."

  • "We had an absolutely delicious dinner. Food was highly creative, but was not unnecessarily fussy. The flavor and integrity of the food was maintained. I especially like the option of choosing appetizer or entree size for small plates. It gave me the opportunity to taste a variety of items- and all were terrific. Very good choice of wines by the glass. Our waiter was very helpful in our choices of both wine and assembling a cheese plate. Music was tasteful and in the background. Even when every table was full, noise level was low and quiet conversation was possible and easy. There may have been some issues with speed of service as the tables filled and the hour approached show times- probably an isolated occurrence."

  • "We were very pleased on our 3rd visit to Bliss. The food continues to be outstanding--we had 4 in the party and no one was disappointed-two eating seafood, and two meat. Appetizers were pretty yummy too. We like this restaurant for it's convenient location to the Kimmel Center but it is consistently far better than the location might predict."

  • "After enduring a very long traffic tie-up on I-95 we arrived at Bliss with only 30 min. to have dinner before a show. Staff hustled us to our seat and assured us we had enough time for dinner and be in our seats before the curtain went up. They were fantastic and food was delicious. We made it to theater with a few minutes to spare."

  • "I enjoyed the menu for the time of day I dined - a meal before the opera. The offering was not extensive but the variety was perfect for seafood lovers, and those who enjoy other selections. I had the Caesar salad with salmon, fries, and a momosa! The price was reasonable, good atmosphere, and the serving staff were attentive. One thing though, I thought the glass size of the drink was a bit chintzy. So I downrated service for that."
