Diner Reviews
  • "The food here was delicious! For the appetizer, the lobster roll and the prosciutto fritters were presented beautifully & tasted amazing. For mains, I personally loved the duck confit ravioli. It was a well composed dish with a great ratio between the ravioli, duck, mushrooms & sauce. Finally, we ordered both the doughnuts & ice cream pie. Both were much "lighter" than expected and absolutely scrumptious--yum! We did decide that the lemon ice cream pie was the winner. The only thing was that our server was not very attentive and seemed quite nervous & awkward around us. He was a little odd and rather neglectful in relation to the business of the restaurant, which is the only reason it was a good rather than an excellent dining experience."

  • "Enjoyed my meal here. The chicken and brussels sprouts and mushrooms deconstructed dinner dish was good. But service was a little slow for me. And although the food was good, I did not think it was worth the $25 for the plate. Just a good place to have dinner and drinks with some friends. But will certainly be looking for something a little less pricey next time."

  • "Went to BLD for their Dine LA dinner menu. Lobster roll and duck ravioli were delicious. The sauce on the ravioli was the perfect consistency. The ice cream pie was tasty though the crust was too dry."

  • "Doing the BLD DineLA dinner special is one of the best decisions I've made all year! Food was excellent and our server Vanessa was a little gem--extremely knowledgeable of the wine and food choices and just a great server all around. Will definitely be back to BLD, especially for the cheese plate and micheladas!!"

  • "Food was very good - service was really bad and needs improvement - we felt forgotten for a good part of our meal and as the restaurant got busy the our server disappeared!!"

  • "I have been there many times.. It is a great go to on the way to the theatre and the wait staff was very considerate of the time constraint.. however I had the turkey burger which I had had before.. It was just OK.. being as it is Dine LA week, they had a limited menu and there were not a ton of chioces for me....I thought the waitress was a little cold and distant.....Have had much better waitress's in the past.. will go again.."

  • "BLD's DineLA menu has got to be one of the best deals in town! Food is innovative enough for foodies, & there were plenty of families also enjoying the relaxed ambience of a great neighborhood spot. Try any of the items on the DineLA menu and you won't be disappointed: Lobster roll, tomato and arugula salad, kobe beef tataki for starters; pan fried branzino, the veggie lobster mushroom with hand torn pasta, the surf/turf, the duck ravioli and for dessert, choice of lemon icebox cake or Guinness doughnuts. Wine pairings are extra. Great meal."

  • "I've been to BLD for their brunch which was excellent, but being able to get the amount of food and the variety for 25 dollars during L.A. restaurant week was just outstanding. I LOVED the lobster roll, the branzino and even though I went with the crowd favorite and chose the donuts I actually didn't like them. BUT dessert was redeemed when my friend got then lemon ice cream pie! To die for! Loved it. I will go back for dinner again and I'm due for another brunch outing!"

  • "I had passed by this restaurant and always wanted to try it and thanks to DineLA, I was able to! I ended up waiting a long time for my party and the servers brought me water and were very gracious to me. When my party arrived and we were seated, the wait staff was attentive and speedy. They didn't rush us to make a decision and made suggestions. I had the duck ravioli and it was AAMAZINGGGG. I almost licked the plate it was so good. I would definitely go back with or without DineLA."

  • "Highly recommend at all times but especially Restaurant Week. Really fantastic food and service. The brunch atmosphere is fun and lively, and the dinner ambience is soft and romantic. The menu all around is intriguing. Loved the last server I had -- and great service adds so much to the dining experience. Can't wait to go back."

  • "My husband & I were visiting LA and conducted a search of some of the areas best breakfast spots. BLD did not disappoint! Our server was delightful and helped us narrow down the choices from several items we were tempted to try. My husband loved his spanish omelet with red sweet peppers and chorizo--perhaps a tad too much chorizo, but fabulous flavor overall. I enjoyed the blueberry ricotta pancakes which had just the amount of sweetness and warmed syrup. There were two gigantic cakes. One would have been perfect for me. The decaf french press coffees was fantastic, too. There were abundant side options as well to suit any diet. We wished we had such a location back in Miami. Three cheers all around!"

  • "Was looking for place for a later dinner, lamb burger was awesome. Cajun Mac and cheese was spicy but the cheese sauce was a little thin. Service was excellent, very cool ambiance/decor. Would love to see what they have for other meals. Would def visit again. The owner coming out to give a personal thank-you for dining was an awesome touch!"

  • "This used to be a dependable place for us for a casual meal, good, fresh food. Salad was tasty, as usual, but both of our entrees were mediocre. Fish was bland, vegetables overcooked. Disappointing."

  • "The service is exceptional there. I would say the servers are very helpful and nice but the food there for dinner is not great. We ordered the tacos (which was the special on Tuesday), the pork shank, the vegetable salad, the salmon, the prosciutto pizza. The pizza and the pork shank were okay but the rest was just not up to par."

  • "We enjoyed our dinner at BLD. The food selection was varied from breakfast to dinner, served all day. We had the short rib. Cooked to perfection on a bed of something delicious...but the chef's got a heavy salt hand. Service is attentive and helpful. Bring a sweater...at least the night we were there it had to be 60° inside. Save room for dessert."

  • "We sought out a neighborhood place for dinner with my adult children, and BLD was recommended. We were there on the early side, so had the place to ourselves at the start, so we had great attention from our server. The food was outstanding - loved the flexibility of structuring our own plates, and the chicken and steak were prepared perfectly. My daughter had the lamb burger and it will definitely bring her back. Overall, we enjoyed the evening and will be recommending this restaurant to others."

  • "I make reservations here when I want to "wow" someone with food and service....the location is quaint, you can bring a pet for outside, and walk around to local shops after you've filled your belly. It is a must visit when I go home to Los Angeles."

  • "Received a conf stating "Should plans change, let us know. We look forward to serving u. BLD gladly accepts reservations for parties of 5 or more for weekend brunch. If u arrive w a party smaller than 5, reservation will be cancelled & u will be added to the wait list." Well plans changed & my party of 5 became a party of 8. I called 30 minutes prior to inform them & was told they would cancel & would not change to party of 8. I tried changing it in person & was told the same thing. We were finally seated at a table for 5 with 3 extra chairs added to it (cramped to say the least) and THAT only happened because one of my guests (who is a rather dashing casting agent) spoke briefly with the host. Hmmmmm. Really???"

  • "We went to BLD for dinner to celebrate our older son's graduation from college. We are all adventurous eaters. We found so many things on the menu that we wanted to try that we could stop ordering. All of our food was delicious from appetizers to desserts. Some of us had experience of BLD for brunch and lunch, but this was our first time for dinner. We thoroughly enjoyed it. We are very familiar with a lot of the restaurants in the same area but we will definitely go back here. "

  • "Love BLD. The service is always gracious and most efficient and the food is eclectic, tasty, creative, and tasty! Although we did not do so this last time while dining there, one of my favorite things to do is sit at the bar, order wine(s) and the charcuterie plate and just hang out eating, drinking and being merry. Good place."

  • "I cannot say enough good things about this local restaurant that we found, in walking distance to our new home in Hancock Park. Great food every time and very helpful, considerate staff!"

  • "Heard good things about BLD, and the menu looked good online. The restaurant itself is nice, good ambiance, however we were given a table next to where staff passes in and out of kitchen. My chair got bumped into a lot with zero apologies repeatedly. The food was excellent, although my girlfriend's lamb burger arrived sans sauce, my braised short ribs were somewhat dry. We would've asked for more sauce and possibly dessert, but after food arrived out waiter was MIA. Well, not completely MIA, just repeatedly walking past our table and avoiding eye contact. It took almost 20 mins to get his attention and request the check. I would go back and hope for a more redeeming experience. Great potential. "

  • "The moment you enter you are greeted with a friendly welcome, shown to the table of your choice and kindly invited to enjoy your first beverage. I asked for a special omelette that was not on the menu and the chef de cuisine agreed to make it to order. With the servers suggestions the omelette was prepared with all of the perfect accompaniments to complement the salmon. Fresh mixed grounds for the coffee and open atmosphere make for a fine dining experience. "
