A word from Blackwood
Blackwood is the Marina"s new and Chestnut's only Thai-American fusion restaurant --with two fireside communal tables out front that give way to an interior of pillow-equipped banquettes and marble table tops.
We offer staple Thai-ness (pad Thai, crispy crusted tiger prawns), we also have some awesome unexpected-ness like sides of Millionaire Bacon (as seen on "united states of food"), the BW Burger (seasoned Wagyu w/ white cheddar, cilantro aioli, and sesame Thai salad on a brioche bun), stonepots for lunch, and a grilled Wagyu flank steak dipped in homemade 151 rum sauce, named the "Last Mid Night", Sea bass dish named "Deep purple sea".
We also offer an impressive 16-beer, three-sake, quagillion-wine list, plus we're serving breakfast every day ('til 4p), meaning seven days a week, you can start your day with a mimosa that's bottomless.

  • "I had a good time because of the company I was with but the whole experience was a let down. The server was really short with us and it wasn't a very busy night at the restaurant. The food started out good. We had an appetizer that was delicious and creative but then it just went down hill from there. The Pork belly was overcooked and the plate was mostly rice. The other dish we had (I can't remember the name) tasted like plain rice noodles. There was no flavor to it. It was a disappointment because the reviews were all really good. Maybe we were there on an off night. On a positive note, the fireplace out side with the communal tables is a really great touch. That's why I thought it might be a great experience. "

  • "High end pan-Asian food. Love the Thai curries and the house special hot pots. Decor is very urban/upscale, not your typical Asian style. Only warning is the food runs spicy/hot, so you might want to ask for a mild version of some of the dishes."

Excellent food - especially the tuna scoop appetizers and the chicken satay skewers (delicious peanut sauce and yummy roti - but they should give more of the roti). We loved the green curry and also enjoyed the ginger Thai street food. I didn't love the fried chicken dish we had, but you can't win them all. Also some of the best mango sticky rice I've ever had. Lastly, great job with the renovations. No traces of the Andale it used to be. Looks very upscale and love the high ceilings. We'll definitely be back! Look out Osha - I still love you, but this place will definitely steal some of your business."

  • "The restaurant is striking--very chic and sleek and elegant. But that's where the charm stopped for us. As we ordered, we reminded the server that one of our party is allergic to sesame seeds. She returned from the kitchen to say the chef would modify the recipe, but that we shouldn't be confident that he would ever do this again for us. The food was also disappointing. Spicey string beans arrived literally floating in a red oil sauce. The papaya salad was simpy, dull and not spikey enough. Our noodle dish was overcooked, mushy and lukewarm. Our final decision: once was enough. More attention to detail is a must if the restaurant is to survive."

  • "If only the service were as good as the food. The food was very delicious. I had the yellow curry with chicken and really enjoyed it. Despite the restaurant not being full, we waited about 10 minutes before being waited on for even drinks and were then asked "if we had decided yet.". The meals came out before the appetizer. I asked the waitress if the apps were still coming and she said it came out of a different part and would probably be done soon. That defeats the purpose of the appetizer and we didn't really want them any more. After being served our meals, we were never asked how the food was, if we needed anything else or if we wanted another drink since we had finished our first."

  • "Like everyone says the Millionaire's bacon is delicious as was the Wagu rolled beef with cucumber and beet root. The atomosphere is very hip maybe hipster and cool; upscale but the prices aren't. The pad thai was very good. It wasn't nice and moist, not soggy but it could have been spicier. The mango tiger prawns were average. The prawns didn't seem grilled enough and they were not really what I call Tiger prawns. They were only medium size. I would go back again if I was in the neighborhood. I like something different and you can get it at Blackwood."

  • "Made our reservation on OT but when we got there, they did not have our reservation, waited for about 15mins which wasn't that bad. But when our table was ready the server yelled at us and pointed us to where our table was. We seated ourselves and later had to flag down a server to order. Food took a very long time. But when it did get there, the Food was great."

  • "I had very high hopes for Blackwood, and was disappointed. According to the website it is a Michelin rated restaurant, and American-Thai fusion intrigued me as I love Thai food (both here and in Thailand). The fact that I could get last-minute reservations prime time on a Saturday night should have tipped me off. Everything about this place was great (service, atmosphere, noise level), expect for the food. Although presented beautifully, the food did not taste anything like Thai cuisine. Everything had a sweet (tamarind, maybe) spin to it. I mean everything - from the samosas to the supposedly spicy tsunami. I will not return and would not recommend to anyone who truly enjoys thai cuisine."

  • "The food is good. There's better Thai food in SF but if you're looking for a quick fix at a decent price, Blackwood is a good option. Service-wise, stereotypically Chinese. Ultra pushy, invariably recommending the most expensive options (which, again, is not super pricey, it's just obnoxious to do that in general). The thing that annoyed me most, however, was that we were 3 people and they included a tip - never seen that for a party of 3. Additionally, when restaurants include a tip, they always present the bill with the words "additional gratuity" or they explicitly show you that the tip was included. Blackwood doesn't do that. They try to dupe you into adding more tip, and on a higher amount than the actual bill. Very dishonest."

  • "Well we went there on a whim because they had an open time at the last minute and the next time we go won't be by chance. We had the ahi scoops (amazing), millionaire bacon (best bacon I have ever had and worth the visit by itself) mango shrimp salad (nothing special, but not bad. There was only 4 shrimp which was disappointing) and the pad Thai was some of the best I've ever had. Not to mention they gave these I think sweet potato crisps free which were addicting. Not to mention they had ommegang beer. I'll be back soon. As for service my water never made it to half empty and the dishes were cleared immediately. Definitely something they work on."

  • "My boyfriend and I decided to go here after he had a great lunch experience once. This time around for dinner, food was SUPER greasy and no spice to it at all. We ordered 2 different wines ( which were good, except the waitress brought us the wrong refill, even after repeating the right name wine), calamari (really greasy), papaya salad (no taste), and the pad kee mao (not spicy at ALL, and if you know Thai food, this dish is SUPPOSED to be spicy!) The servers were nice but with as many as they had working and the small restaurant, service was not the best and somewhat erratic. The decorations are the only cool thing to note at this place. This place was definately a dissapointment."

  • "3 of us shared the stone pot, after having the tuna appetizer and the calamari. The dishes might appear to be expensive if you look at the menu, but it is a lot of food for the main courses. I had the tilapia on a previous visit and it was enough rice and fish for two people easily, and absolutely delicious."
