BlackSaltLovely mealGreat restaurant, great service and most importantly the food was also great. BlackSalt made it extra special by providing great service, lovely details that make it all more enjoyable6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMsome of the best seafood we've hadBlack Salt was a special treat. The seafood is outstanding. Don't miss the clam chowder (2 can share a bowl) and the halibut was the best we ever had.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently delicious and creativeWe are frequent blacksalt diners and our children love to go there with us. It's not really a family restaurant t but our servers are always patient and accommodating. We like to eat excellent food as a family so it's nice the restaurant has a plush neighborhood feel.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways Perfect! We've always had a great experience at Black Salt.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe tuna tartare appetizerThe tuna tartare appetizer was melt-in-your mouth delicious. The swordfish was excellent as well. Love this place!6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMThey Celebrate With YouMy husband and I were at Black Salt for our 25th Wedding Anniversary. Our menus were printed with "Happy 25th Anniversary" and were presented to us tied with a ribbon when we left. They brought us complementary champagne as well. The servers were very attentive without being intrusive.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMPescetarian DreamIf you love fish as much as I do then this is the place for you. Great selection, well cooked an well presented.
Service was quick an efficient ( we were there on sunday about 5.30pm, it was fairly quite).
Be warned though the menu is 98% fish, I think there was one steak option an some salads, but other wise sea life of all varieties.
You can eat from the menu or have something from the fresh fish counter. Snapper, oysters, clams, tile fish the list goes on.
Portions are generous so beware, if like me your not a big eater but partial to dessert then skip a starter as the dessert list is good.
( hey Iam a girl, of course I need dessert)6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat sea foodIt is wonderful to have sea food the way it should be presented, not deep fried and batter dipped with a side of French fries and a soda! No offense to lovers of fast-food sea food, but why bother when the flavor of the fish or shrimp is lost! You may as well eat chicken. Try the Pontchartrain Benedict.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat tasting menuWe had the $94 tasting menu that included five fish courses (cold tuna belly, tilefish, halibut, salmon, and rockfish with pork belly) as well as a lavish dessert. Each fish course was perfectly cooked and had interesting sauces/accompaniments. Our favorite was the lemony sauce with the halibut; the jalapeno-laced sauce with the rockfish was too spicy for the ladies. The breads were so good that we asked for another set despite the large amount of food. Service was excellent. The attentive waiter had two assistants. When he noted that the ladies weren’t enjoying the rockfish, he offered to bring a substitute. The bare-topped tables are close together and the room was loud. The seats were adequate at first, but seemed hard after 2 ½ hours.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat FoodOysters were great. Fish tacos were delicious as was hummus salad plate and calamari. Will go back just for the fish tacos!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMFood is good. The first timeFood is good. The first time service was excellent with lots of information about choices for dinner. Last Saturday the girl was not very attentive and we waited quite a while with not much information about the wonderful additional choices you have versus what's on the menu.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMWe haven't been here sinceWe haven't been here since the restaurant was fairly new and then we were not impressed by the service. We had a good experience this time. The only snag was that the waiter did not take our drink order very promptly so we stopped someone else to help out. The food was excellent and the halibut was outstanding. Expensive but excellent and on par with DC prices.
Looking forward to a return visit.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMeverything from drinks toeverything from drinks to dessert was exceptional the weakest part of dinner was the bread that was just average everything else was 5 star I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu and they are willing to customize any entree or appetizer to your taste6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful LunchThis is an excellent restaurant--it never disappoints. If you don't find what you like on the menu, they will prepare any of the seafood in the market for you. I have been there for dinner and for lunch and both meals were exceptional.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMDinner at Black SaltVisited during the week for our anniversary. Food and service were great, as others have commented, the front room is a little noisy and the wine markup is notable. Received complimentary champagne and a "happy anniversary" note on our menus. Would recommend for a nice date or special occasion.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat FishThere is a broad selection of the freshest seafood, all fresh and all well prepared -- oysters, other shellfish, and fresh wild and farmed fish. When we were there, it was the season for soft-shelled crabs. There were a couple of options for meat eaters and a couple for vegetarians, all imaginative, not just afterthoughts. But the main draw is clearly the seafood.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazingThe food was outstanding and I cant wait to go back!6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb! My wife & I are huge fans of Black Restaurant Group & frequent Blacks Bar (Bethesda) & Addie's (Rockville). BlackSalt is now probably our favorite - great atmosphere, excellent service & the food was simply superb. Will definitely be returning!6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMBrunch was unbelievableEasily the best eggs Benedict I've ever had and the side of bacon was unreal.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMGreatIt has been awhile since we have eaten at Black Salt. The brunch was better than we remembered. The shrimp and grits and the oyster poorboy were excellent!!!!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMReal chef for Sea foodsGreat presentation for Sea food. I recomend all Fish Eater. One thing which I request to the chef is to reduce sweetness.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMElegant for special occasionThis was our first visit to celebrate my birthday. They began to seat us in the incredibly noisy, crowded downstairs restaurant which was packed at 7 pm on a Saturday night with what appeared to be neighborhood diners. We asked for a quieter table and were taken upstairs to a lovely, elegant, quiet, understated dining room. The service was impeccable. The waiter made wine recommendations which paired perfectly for the raw oyster medley they chose for us and also for the special soft shell crabs we had for our entrees. The strawberry shortcake biscuit was tough, but otherwise the meal was great. We went with the waiters' recommendations for all but the dessert. Parking was easy on a side street. We will return.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways enjoy the outstandingAlways enjoy the outstanding seafood, the wine, and the service. We like the ambience in the back room very much. The front rooms are too crowded and too loud. The hostess is always good about our request to sit in the back room.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMInnovative and FreshWe were seated in the very back room, beyond the wine room; that set the tone, that were given VIP treatment. Fronm start to finish the service is superb at the restaurant. The chef is innovative and the seafood extremely fresh They seem to have seating for every kind of dress, if you want to come casual, it looked just fine. We were dressed up & accommodated in an appropriate room with linen on the tables. (This is the mark of a good host/hostess.) The menu had a Thai-prepared giant prawn and mussel dish that sounded so good we both ordered the same thing. This is unusual for us as we like to experiment and share. This time it proved to be a winner. It was superb.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful evening! We were celebrating our anniversary, and were ushered to the beautiful upholstered-walls back room and greeted with flutes of sparkling wine. We have enjoyed BlackSalt several times before, but were unaware of the back room. Service and food were impeccable all evening. The trio of cremes brulee was superb, and all the more appreciated for the Happy Anniversary message written across the plate in chocolate. The fish here is always sparklingly fresh, and all dishes are presented artistically and creatively. Perfect choice!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food!!!The food was delicious!!!!
It was really delicately cook & delivered on the table! I highly recommend you to take your family here for the delicious fresh food!5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful eveningThe food and the service were superlative. Don't know how we could have had a better experience. The meals are expensive but very, very good. Drinks are the only thing that are not a good value due to the mark up. Make a reservation.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMA must try...From the wine to the warm bread, entrees and desserts this is exceptionally good restaurant. We were a group of four and every dish was outstanding. Bold flavors and quite a variety for serving mainly fish. This is a gem of a restaurant, and one we will frequent again and recommend to our foodie friends. We bought fish on the way out for next day dinner -- also excellent. The food is very, very good, and I am not one to say that often!5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMLike New York!I felt I was in a great New York restaurant. The food was so delicious and the wait staff knowledgeable and helpful. Can't wait to come back.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMSecond time aroundThis was my second time here and although still very good, my first time was better. My entree was overcooked, not terribly, but it was fish which is never good. My companion's food was great according to her, so in the end it was all good.
I'll still go back.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst ImpressionsGreat lunch and service, no complaints. I'll be back. Lots of temptating items on the lunch menu and will be looking for an opportunity to also return for dinner. I had my heart set on an oyster po boy so I would like to see that on something beside the brunch menu.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMBest seafood in DCI went last night with my boyfriend to celebrate a special evening. The menu is outstanding. I had the Mediterranean sea bass whole fish and it is probably the best fish dish I have ever had. If it wasn't so pricey I'd be dinning there a lot more often! I would definitely recommend it if you want to celebrate a special occasion or just pamper yourself a little.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat seafoodExcellent seafood. Very fresh and open on Sunday night. Highly recommend it. Cab pickup problematic so über is better choice for ride home.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMsome of the best seafood I'vesome of the best seafood I've ever had. Outstanding.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMInfallibleBlack Salt has delivered a great meal with great ambiance. A fish market a restaurant and always a hit! You get what you pay for each and every time.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent FoodBlack Salt exceeded our expectations. The tuna tartar was especially good. The atmosphere was sophisticated and great for conversation. Service was very good as well.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGood experienceWe celebrated his birthday. I spelled his name for his birthday menu but they said they never got it and so it just said, "Happy Birthday". The food was divine but the "tasting menu" was just too much food. We opted for the wine tasting as well. Of the five, three were very good but 2 were not. Staff was friendly and attentive. Overall, it was a very good experience. Pricey.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMA lovely anniversary dinnerBlack Salt was a lovely place for our anniversary dinner. While we had mentioned it when making our reservation, we had no idea that we would be treated to extra special attention. Our menus were created just for us, we were served complementary champagne, and our desserts were dressed up with "happy anniversary" lettered on the plates. The service was fantastic - attentive without being obtrusive. The food was fabulous - the fish/seafood dishes are just wonderful. We have always enjoyed dining at the Black's Restaurants and were once again very impressed!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMGraduation Celebration was PerfectFamily Celebration dinner was the perfect ending to Graduation Activities.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding fresh fish!Black Salt was the best meal we had in the DC Georgetown area.the selection of fish was amazing. We loved the bar as well.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat seafood restaurantI've always wanted to make my way to the Palisades to try Black Salt. It's definitely worth the trip! I tried 9 out of the 10 types of oysters they carry, and all of them were unique, fresh, and delicious. I specially liked the two signature oysters: black pearl and old black salts. I've also had their Spanish mussel dish, prepared with chorizo and romesco sauce, and it was outstanding.
My complaints are that the restaurant is a little bit laud, and the service can be a little slow. Nonetheless, our server was very helpful and courteous.
I would recommend Black Salt to all seafood lovers that like good quality food.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food, but noisy! We love BlackSalt and frequently dine there. The food is consistently good and creatively prepared. Unfortunately it is hard to eat with a group because the restaurant is so noisy. We had a table for six and it was hard for us to carry on a single conversation because of the noise!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful value too!For $18.00, a wonderful lunch-time value. Good salad to begin with, excellent large and spicy mussels, ended by delightful dessert concoction of ice-cream and berries.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways one of our favorites.Always one of our favorites. We were worried about Mother's Day and getting a limited menu or frazzled service, but they pulled it off spectaularly, as usual.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMothers Day BrunchIts a challenging meal service for most restaurants, but we had an excellent meal. The restaurant was super busy, as you would expect. We were seated on time and the service was fast and courteous. There were three of us and one item came out cold and was immediately corrected. We had the Eggs Pontchartrain (probably the biggest "wow", biscuits & gravy, omelette, and home fries and all were very good. Loved the Cucumber Fizz! Would recommend.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat brunch, but....We went for mothers day with a reservation. The food was absolutely fabulous. We tried the cabin eggs benediction and brioche French Toast. The actual food service was impeccable, how this restaurant is in a neighborhood that isn't anywhere near a Metro Station and taxis don't service. We had the restaurant call repeatedly and FINALLY after a 45 minute wait outside (the day was beautiful) we flagged down an off duty taxi who took pity on us. So this marred an otherwise perfect experience for us. If you're an out of town visitor, think twice about the brunch. It's a shame, but will affect your visit.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Restaurant in DCWith out a doubt if you like seafood and good wine this is the best restaurant in DC. Worth the money.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFresh fish! You can't go wrong with any of the fresh fish selections! Be sure to select a tasty appetizer as well. My table feasted on the Belgian style mussels. Save room for dessert. As a Southerner, I am picky about key lime pie, but Black Salt's version is heavenly.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWONDERFUL dinner!Everything was wonderful, staff was very friendly. Probably one of the best seafood restaurants out here in DC.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMsuprised!it was a wonderful experience and the food and service were both outsanding which made us want to come back! Know that diners can order out of the menu from the market located as you walk in and have it prepared to your liking. Greaft concept- great people-fresh food and outsanding service!!
We will be back!5/7/2013 12:00:00 AM
