A word from BlackFly - St Augustine
If you're looking for a seafood restaurant in St. Augustine, this unique fly-fishing themed restaurant offers daily fresh fish specials using locally caught fish that you don't usually see on most restaurant menus. The kitchen at BlackFly is a "Scratch Kitchen"; everything is fresh, as local as possible, seasonal and made to order. The menu at BlackFly includes brick oven pizzas and Chop House selections as well as an extensive wine selection. Mike and Cindy, partners in BlackFly and owners of the Famous Collage Restaurant in downtown St. Augustine are the operational managers. The menu is the grand result of their combined expertise, their years of experience in bringing the best possible product to the table and the imaginative input of our talented chef Matt Duley. The restaurant is under the internationally known BlackFly Brand of Vaughn Cochran, a Florida artist who lives and paints in St. Augustine, Florida and who developed the famous BlackFly Logo.Continued

  • "Had 7 people in our party on July 4th and everyone enjoyed their dinner before the fireworks."

  • "We had a fine meal before fireworks in St Augustine. Food was excellent, service great. It was a bit busy and slower than usual, but it was packed for a busy night in town, so to be expected. The noise level was the only thing that could have been improved. A bit noisy. We love this restaurant and will go again and again."

  • "Everything was wonderful. The most attentive and friendly staff around. Food is terrific! Wine list is great! Very affordable and the overall atmosphere is very lively. The owner, Vaughn, is alaays around making everyone feel welcome. One of St. Augustine's BEST!!"

  • "This was our second time at this restaurant and it was as good or better than our first trip. My wife and I shared the siracha shrimp and they were not to spicy but with just enough kick. I had the linguini and clams again and my God they are soooo good!! There are no chopped clams but a dozen clams in their shell, the white wine sauce has just a hint of sweetness and wine, butter and garlic taste. We were six people and everyone loved the food."

  • "The food was very good and our server was great. It is a little pricey but it would not keep me away. The only down side for me was it was very noisy."

  • "Everything was fine. Better than average food and overall experience... The only negative about the place was that it had a strong fishy odor that was unpleasant...like an old fishy smell."

  • "Was passing through the area and decided to try. Had a wonderful meal and the staff were excellent. Would definitely go back."

  • "Mike, You've done it again! Collage and Black Fly are awesome. Although different, they both have - Great food, great service and great atmosphere."

  • "BlackFly is indeed a gem that happened to be only a block from our vacation rental in St. Augustine. In two evenings, every menu item we tried, from the signature cocktails to desserts, was delectable. I can't recommend this place highly enough!"

  • "Superb cuisine and service as usual. The chef has a remarkable ability to create unbelievably tasty specials, in addition to an already fantastic standard menu. This restaurant is truly a diamond in the rough, and mirrors its sister restaurant, Collage, in Saint Augustine. I highly recommend this restaurant!!"

  • "Food was slightly above average. Sea Scallops were large but only 4 for $25. Batter on fried green tomatoes was dry and bland. Fried shrimp were very good. Waitress forgot to bring order of conch chowder, don't know why they don't write down orders, and it was brought after entree was served. It had a somewhat strange taste, almost like charcoal. Very noisy establishment, could barely hear my wife talk. Carrot cake was dry and it is served as a three layer cookie."

  • "This place is a gem! They might have the absolute best shrimp and friend rice on the planet. By far, the best in my entire life. Appetizers are big enough for meals paired with a salad. All of our foods were prepared fresh and quickly. The spinach and artichoke dip is large enough to share with a party of four (very creamy and rich)! Large libation list as well as wine list. Atmosphere is upbeat and fun with a bar in the back of the building. We didn't even notice while we were dining there was a live band. Do yourself a favor, taste the shrimp and fried rice! LOVELY!!!"

  • "Nice layout for the restaurant. Reminds me of the islands. Could be a great bar for fishermen if it were on the water. Small store is a nice touch. Bar looks like a fully stocked one although I did not use it. Perusal of the wine list shows reasonable pricing for most selections."

  • "From the second we walked in we knew we would have a great experience. Then came the food, and each dish that came out was better than the last. I've always judged the attentiveness of the staff on whether or not my water glass was ever empty, ours never were. Make sure to try the Crème brûlée. The night we were there the flavor was Root Beer. It was amazing!!!"

  • "We have eaten at Blackfly 3 times. The food was constistenly tasty & portions generous. The service and friendliness of the staff is also consistently excellent. This is becoming one if our favorite spots!"

  • "This restaurant is very nicely decorated, the service was great, and food was awesome! The menu appears to be all of over the place, but from what we ordered it works and the pizza was incredible. We had a couple of appetizers (yum), a couple of specialty drinks (Prickly Pear is great), and a margarita pizza topped with lobster with all prepared perfectly. They take food allergies seriously which is a great relief. This place should be packed all of the time, however, I think the location may be hindering it since it is across the bridge. It was only a 2 minute drive from our B&B so not a problem at all, make sure you make the trip over there, it really isn't far and it is worth it!"

  • "My wife and I live in St. Augustine and we have eaten at the Black Fly several times. Saturday night, we took my mother-in-law, my son, his wife, and 6-month old daughter to the restaurant. We enjoyed our appetizers, conch fritters and fried green tomatoes. We had a variety of entrees from the ribeye steak to the golden corvina (fish of the day) to fried shrimp. Everyone enjoyed their meal before we shared a chocolate coconut brownie. Be sure to make a reservation on the weekend!"

  • "Pleasant surprise to find such a good unique restaurant just outside the main town area of St Aug. The shrimp I had were delicious as was the Conch Fritter app. Service was great and a great relaxed but eclectic atmosphere We'll be back for sure"

  • "This was a recommendation for us as a local place we could get in and out of fairly quickly because we were dining before a concert. What a gem! The service was fantastic, the food was wonderful. All of us had seafood dishes and the food is prepared to order, including a fabulous risotto with coconut curry sauce that was perfectly balanced with seared sea scallops. The service was quick, we explained we were trying to get out fairly quickly to get to a concert and they were wonderfully accommodating. Yes, we dined at 5:30, so I can see where there may have been a light crowd, and I can also see where this place would be jam-packed for dinner. But this is a place we will definitely return to! "

  • "We had an absolute fantastic brunch for Mother's Day at Black Fly. The food was delicious, favorites were the mac and cheese, seafood biscuits and gravy and the raspberry cheesecake mousse. Our white Sangria was a little meh, tasting of just white wine and sliced oranges. They could definitely have added more flavor. Service was standard. We will definitely be back when next in the area. Its a shame they aren't regularly open for lunch/brunch."

  • "This restaurant was a disaster because of the food. The server Eric was pleasant. We ordered a grouper special and they charged me $5 for a split plate. The meal arrived with a piece of grouper on each plate (enough for three people) that had little or no taste. It was surrounded on each plate with humogous portions of mashed potatos and butter. There were a few over cooked vetgables on the plate. The wine was decent. Most of the cleints were obese which tells one about the fare. When will restarants learn that potatos in any form is not for eating out. At this price level I do not recommend it. You would get a better meal at Ruby Tuesdays. Instead of charging for a split plate just have a smaller plate choice."

  • "We had come down for a concert at the SA Ampitheatre. My girlfriend grew up in this great area just across the Bridge of Lions from the historic district and we booked a room on A1A. We were out for an evening stroll and saw that a very attractive format of a restaurant had opened. Stuck our heads inside and discovered a very "swanky" restaurant with cool front bar and intimate separate back bar with live entertainment in place. We have since dined here on numerous occasions. Never had a bad meal. Owner Vaughn is personable and grew up in the Davis Shores area. He has a distinguished musical background and artist and has regularly hosted some outstanding musical acts. Get on their mailing list. Oh- the food is always excellent and fresh."

  • "Really good shrimp I loved them best I ever had. My mom got the $30 ribeye which the $20 one at longhorn taste way better hands down this steak was undercooked and had no taste although the vegetables and potatoes were delicious. All in all I would only go back for the shrimp. Loved the atmosphere and the staff but the food could be better. "

  • "Locals know you get good food, service and value here. Known for fresh, local seafood, the restaurant does not disapoint. Well prepared, properly seasoned dishes presented at a nice pace are the norm here. You can't go wrong with chef specials or any choice off the daily menu. House wines and drinks are reasonably priced and the wine list is also very good and diverse. Always a good choice for about any occassion. "

  • "Most dishes had a very uncommon/ unique mix of flavers. My wife had the daily fish special and I had the flat iron steak, both were very good. "

  • "Don't let the exterior fool you! Inviting bar area but open casual dining room with an upscale fishing theme. While busy the waitress was quick and attentive. Food was well presented and quite delicious! Will be back!"

  • "I has a grouper special. While the food was fresh, delicious and serving size adequate, it was pricey at $33. My wife had fried shrimp, which she enjoyed; better that average. The absence of an accompanying salad was notable...available a la carte. The rosemary bread was delicious. The background music was intrusive and totally out of character with the attractive decor and overall ambiance.... 1960's R&R and a bit loud. Compared to some other local places, we found it a bit pricey while the food was very good. Service (Kerrie?) was excellent."

  • "Some of the best fried shrimp I have ever had! My husband had salmon and raved about it but his favorite part of dinner was the amazing salad! Nice Balvenie Scotch and excellent service rounded out a great night. We'll be back soon!"

  • "We have a large group of 11 and it was my girlfriend's birthday. She had heard that BlackFly was a restaurant that she just had to try. The staff was amazing and our server was extremely patient and helpful. As you may know trying to get a large group to do anything at the same time can be difficult. The food was awesome and delivered as promised from our friends recommendation. We will be back again as there were too many items on the menu we wanted to try but didn't get the chance too."
