The staff was extremely courteous and very knowledgeable about the menu. The restaurant is lovely and, most importantly, the food is beautifully presented and evidences a creative use of disparate tastes and flavors to be savored and enjoyed. Having read reviews ahead of time, I had a light meal about two hours before going to the restaurant and so was prepared to enjoy and appreciate the artistry involved in the entire presentation without being distracted by the small size of the portions. We ordered the 5 course chef's tasting menu to which the chef sweetly added beignets as a gift for our anniversary. The food was phenomenal as always and the service very attentive. We particularly the tastings because we try things we wouldn't normally. The duck ham was great, would have ordered it anyway. The salmon cooked in duck fat, no, and it wasn't cooked as much as I like - but I trust the chef to give me a good meal with a storyline. It is fine dining at it's best in terms of the food and the service.
The problem is always the ambiance. It is just too loud. And, as happens too often, a very loud table dominated the relatively small space. Please consider some changes to absorb sound. And if you were the woman with the loud annoying voice near the door, pipe down!!!!4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMMemorable dining experience!Food flavor and temperature was excellent; dish combination and presentation were harmonious and elegant; service was courteous and hospitable; service timing in between courses were prompt and timely; lighting, room temperature and noise were pleasing; table seating and spacing were appropriate. Even the parking was just rightly closeby. I'd say the chef and owner just had a well thought out right touch in the place, size and venue location. Clean and neatly accessible. As always the food was impressive, service was professional and accommodating, and I left with a smile. Tasting menu is always the way to go. Each dish looks like a work of art and all the flavor combinations go so well together. We had the nine course tasting menu and with the exception of one dish it was all outstanding. The waitress checked after each course was served to make sure we were happy with the dish and when we said we weren't fans of the cod collar she whisked the plates away and returned with a dish to replace it.

A++ and yes, a best in Philly area.3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMChef Chip Roman served anChef Chip Roman served an outstanding 7 course prix fixed dinner featuring top ingredients such as caviar, smoked salmon,truffles, lobster tail, and excellent cheeses. Such quality is not cheap and Blackfish is not inexpensive, despite being a BYOB.
My only real complaint is that the tables are so closely packed that at times basic conversation becomes somewhat difficult due to the noise level.
However, both food and service are top notch and make the tight spacing quite endurable and overall well worth it. We will be back for sure.12/20/2012 12:00:00 AM
