We went to Blackfish for the Chef's Tasting on a Tuesday night when the price goes down to $45. The featured item was striped bass and it was presented crudo, poached and roasted. Everything was delectable and the service impeccable. Wonderful experience and I can't wait to do it again!

The food was still pretty good, however, with the crowd that evening every course that came out was room temperature at best, like it was sitting and waiting for awhile before it hit the table. That includes the soup, the scallop appetizer and the venison and blue fish entrees. It seems like this place has been running on autopilot for years without the necessary attention to detail that once made this a 5 star experience in my opinion.

We heard good things about Blackfish, but it didn't live up to its reputation. The parsnip soup was good. The risotto could be more tender. I liked the risotto's onion flavor but the lemon flavor was a big miss. Had the venison tenderloin. It was cooked perfectly but when it arrived at the table, it was cold.

We thought the meal was good-nothing really special-small portions for the prices. If it weren't for the excellent bread service, we would have been hungry after the 3 courses. The squash soup was excellent-complex and refreshing citrus accent. Oysters also excellent. Ricotta Gnudi was light and tasted good and was a welcome different dish concept--could probably ramp up the seasoning though. Bouillabaisse was very small portion for the price. Saffron tomato sauce should have been further reduced to enhance flavor--it was watery and too mild. Fish assortment was good including skate. Also disappointed that there were no specials-just menu choices. Obvious that management cares about their restauruant and patron experience.

This dinner was our last in the US before a 9 day trip abroad. It had to be great, easy, & so good that the memory would carry us through to our return no matter how well we dined while away. We had fabulous meals on our trip, but Blackfish is the equal of any of them. The "gently smoked Scottish salmon" delights every time I have it. How they can consistently get that egg to be firm enough for the white to hold its shape without congealing the yolk amazes me (& it's delicious). The scallops are always done just right - tender & flavorful but never mushy. My wife loves the bouillabaisse & I usually do the daily fish. Yes, we're biased reviewers - we simply love the Blackfish experience. Is it the food? the staff? the room? the ambiance? the focus on calm enjoyment? Yes it is.

I had canceled a reservation in Center City in favor of this after reading the terrific reviews. The first course, smoked salmon with poached egg, was the best. Then torn scallop left an unpleasantly strange mouth feel, and the restaurant's signature bouillabaisse featured a few tiny shellfish, over-poached vertebrate fish, and an unforgettably gamy mussel. In addition, it had a cold atmosphere, cold service, and initially was thermally cold.

Although the food was creative & good, the portions were very small. We did not order a tasting menu, but the portions were like one. The prices, however, were not small. We left very hungry and with a large bill! Service was very friendly. We enjoyed what little food we had, but will not return.

The menu was a bit limited and very pricey for the size of the entrees. I'm not a foodie but I think a foodie would really enjoy it. I personally had to look up half of the things on the menu to find out what I was ordering. My fish was delicious and the dessert was the best part. I don't think I would personally go back for the price. There was nothing on the menu that really excited me but it was worth trying at least once.

My husband I had the tasting menu. The first three dishes (tuna crudo, Scottish salmon egg, pistachio crusted white fish) and the amuse bouche (oyster w/ meyer lemon foam) were delicious. Foie gras terrine was too sweet for me and it reminded me too much of peanut butter and jelly. (My husband did like it). But the beef course was just average and the cut of meat (can't remember what it was now) was chewy. The sauce was lovely and the veggies were nice but it was nothing interesting. The beignets weren't very warm and they tasted like the outer layer of a roll rather than being a little crispy like a donut. The white chocolate "cremeux" was just ok. The service was excellent. I will go back, but I'll stick to an all fish dinner.

This spot was recommended to me by my uncle who dines here frequently because of the seasonal menu. Me and my guest had to take advantage of the changing menu and sample two items from each course selection. The flavors in all the dishes were on target. The portions were small enough that you did not get overwhelmingly full from one course to the next and they were big enough to share and get a decent helping. The ambiance and decor is what truly made this restaurant a stand out for me, as well as our service from Harold and his staff of food runners. Clean white walls, crystal clear classes, and fresh spot less silverware after every course made my dinning experience were more spectacular. Look forward to the winter menu coming soon.

You can find fancier, but Blackfish has an upscale feel with no pretense - it's just "right" from arrival to departure. You can find more intricate menus, but none brings clever complexity together in such appealing & approachable food. There's more work in most of these dishes than most people realize, from recipe ideas to making them real to plating & presenting them so beautifully. You can spend hours exploring and discussing each one - or you can just eat them with no intellectual exercise. They're equally great for both kinds of diners. We had the signature smoked salmon appetizer (wow!), crudo (fluke tonight & always fine), scallops, bouillabaisse, & veal. Suit or jeans, it's up to you. Art, food, love - it's a culinary hat trick!

We dined at Blackfish for our one year anniversary and we couldn't have picked a more wonderful place to celebrate! The staff was amazing and very personable the atmosphere was relaxed and comforting. But the best part was the food! The plating was artisticly done and the layers of flavors were amazingly done! The Scottish salmon plate is a must when dining there. We had an incredible experience which was only made better by the staff bring us outr dessert with a celebratory candle on it. The service, food and dining experience was above par. I highly recommend Blackfish to anyone.

It was great! We chose the chefs choice. (5 courses) to be adventurous for starters we had the salmon appetizer, I have never had it served that way, it was smoked salmon wrapped around a small soft boiled egg that has a soft shell of panco crumbs around the egg. And then a round wafer on top. I know my description has not done it justice but you'll just have to try it! Each course was savory and we enjoyed it! Great service ! Thanks!

What a find. We were in town for parents weekend at Villanova and was fortunate enough to get a table for dinner Saturday night. While the menu is short it is clear that the chef and all the staff pay a tremendous amount of attention to every single detail. Every element on every plate tastes great, makes sense (to the overall dish) and works so elegantly. Service is highly professional but so very relaxed, which is perfect for the ambiance of this place. And it is BYOB which is always great and just another good reason to try this spot. We will be back - hopefully soon!

This was quite disenchanting. Blackfish has been forever written up in philadelphia articles, and hailed as top notch. As a resident of Philadelphia, I am accustomed to paying the price point of this restaurant for high-quality food. The portions were small, the plating sloppy and the tastes were lack luster. Definitely not worth the drive from Center City.

We both had the 3 course Restaurant Week meal, but had completely different things so we could try it all out. Everything was cooked well and presented well, it all tasted fresh and the flavor combinations were spot on. Although restaurant week in Conshohocken, my dining partner and I opted for the regular menu choices after reading other diners reviews. my 1st course of Norwegian Salmon was delightful, companions took one spoonful of the refrigerated brown squash liquid (soup) and put it aside, the 2nd course of Foie Gras was very smooth and buttery but a bit salty. Gnudi was good. 3rd course, I had been waiting with bated breath to try the Bouillabaisse after hearing people rave about it.. dry overcooked fish, unopened clams, with an extremely salty broth poured over.. Terrible. Doesn't the chef taste before putting these dishes out? No return visit ever for us.. $140 in the can. Waitress was lovely..
