On our last trip, we had a drink at the bar and asked to stay for dinner. No, that seat is taken. So we planned ahead and that was really worth it. Epic. Service is attentive but not cloying or arrogant. Each course a work of art. Who knew chicken could be this good? Wonderful wine selection but not overwhelming.

The food was wonderful. The only downside was the speed of the service. We were there for over two hours, with long gaps between courses. We were obviously on a business lunch, and the pace was a bit too slow as we all needed to return to the office.

I had the tasting menu and two glasses of wine recommended by the server. Both wines were perfect! The food was wonderful with unexpected flavors that did not overwhelm the dish. I especially liked the melon soup with shrimp, the flavorful cheese, the bread, and the lamb with cucumber. I was visiting Chicago at the very end of a longer trip, and it was the first time I have eaten at an expensive restaurant by myself. Though not many people do it, I was happy I did as the staff was very accomodating and I even had a brief conversation with the couple next to me who were celebrating their anmiversary. The coffee finishing the experience was also excellent. Blackbird delivered a wonderful last evening experience on all levels.

A wonderful place with good vibe. Elegant but simple decor. A lot of pretty, well dressed people. Acustics are good, comforting sounds of happy people talking and cutlery gently contacting the china. Food was exceptional. Ceative, but easy to interpret and understand. Great service. We had the pork collar and the lamb loin as our main dishes and the scallops and endive salad as appetizers. All were flawless, flavorfull and beautifully presented. Nice wine by the glass and bottle lists.

We visited Blackbird for our first anniversary. We wanted to try everything so we decided on the tasting menu. We were not disappointed. Each dish was perfectly balanced. We had the dinner tasting menu at our table. The service was impeccable with the waiter recommending a beautiful wine. The tasting menu is 8 courses. This is the first that I've seen that had 3 of the 8 courses as desserts. Average desserts as they were with one particularly bad other than the cheese. Otherwise, the small small plates were good as well as the small entrees. Good to gret but not something that I will remember as amazing.

Tables were too close and restaurant way too noisy. When I pay that much for a meal I want to be able to hold a conversation without raising my voice to be heard by the people I am dining with. When the servers were serving the next table, they were leaning over me. Service was OK, but not what I would expect for the price point. Several times tried to get the waiters attention and he made a rude remark about our celebration. Desert was the best part of the meal.

We went to Blackbird for an anniversary dinner. We were surprised and dismayed by the excessive noise level and the shoulder to shoulder cramped seating. At these prices ($40 and over for an entree, $120 for a tasting menu) it did not seem unreasonable to expect some luxury and attentiveness. Our waitress was pleasant and informative about the menu, but often disappeared and had to be flagged down to pour our wine, which when drinking a bottle that cost over $100 seemed unfair. The food did not make up for this. It was superbly prepared, but in a technical way that seemed devoid of the offer of pleasure. I had duck breast which in other restaurants seems unctuous. This dish was bland and dull, as was my wife's lamb loin.

We picked several small plates and split them with the waitress making several recommendations and happily serving us course after course. It's a little Spartan - but that is the look they were going for. Very much not the usual fare - very different items with the farm to table touch. Will readily go back when we get to Chicago again!

Just finished lunch with a friend at Blackbird. We both got the prix fixe and we both loved our meals. Despite the servers suggestion that the bbq eel was to-die-for I ordered the soup as a starter. Leek and potatoe soup was really great, but the bbq eel, which my friend wisely ordered per the lovely and handsome servers suggestion, was over-the-top amazing. We both had the monk fish for a main course. Again, we were blown away. The true pieces de resistance were the desserts. We decided to try one each of the two options on the prix fixe menu and share. My favorite was the sorbet, ice cream peach combo - OMG! Only compliant is that the dessert portion was generous and I left the restaurant full. Can't wait to come back soon!!

We sat at the bar as our table was being prepared. The crowd was young and the scene very vibrant, despite it being mid week. Once seated we were handed menus and the wine and cocktail list. It seemed that it took forever to order drinks and then even longer for them to come. Once they arrived, it took even longer to give our dinner order. The food was fantastic, the flavors very vibrant and fresh. Appetizers were bested by dinners. I would highly recommend, despite my service experience. I got the impression they were understaffed that night.

We came here for lunch based on the reviews for this being a very good restaurant. The food was definitely great but the service was not. The servers were very pretentious and we had various servers that we weren't really sure who our main server was. It seems like they were trying really hard to sell an image of their restaurant as being modern and clean, which it was but it felt like they were trying to hard. I was happy to have tried this restaurant out but there is way too much hype about it. This sure didn't measure up to our expectations. I would not recommend this to my friends nor will I come again.

I love Blackbird and always recommend it to friends. That said, it's not for everyone. The tables against the wall are so close together that it can make conversation challenging. Plus it's annoying when someone gets up or sits down at the table next to you. The decor and food presentation is minimalist. In some cases you might wonder if something is missing on your plate because there is a large blank space in the middle as the food is placed to one side. What isn't missing is amazing food and creativity.

Blackbird is highly recommended in a travel book that we used, and I have to say that it didn't disappoint. Between the two of us, we tried two different appetizers, two different entrees, and two different desserts. Everything was exceptionally delicious. It's a busy restaurant and the tables are crammed side by side, leading to a high noise level. But this did not diminish the quality of our dining experience. A great place in the West Loop.

We went with the three course tasting menu for the day. The food choices were varied and everything that each of the four of us had was quite good. We had one appetizer and although I being a meat eater thought my portion of hangar steak was a bit small (probably due to the tasting menu) left full. We had planned this to be our big meal for the day and it filled that need. It was our anniversary and they provided a free desert on top of the desert that came for each person with the tasting menu. I am unsure that was customary because we were told an owner was dining and overheard it was our anniversary and suggested providing the desert. It was a memorable experience and I would recommend the restaurant.

Had a last minute change if plans and ended up at Blackbird with party of 6. They welcomed us warmly and were the exact right balance of service without being intrusive. Blackbird does a fantastic job with their overall dining experience. The setting of the restaurant is quite intimate, yet still bright and lively. Being able to see the entire kitchen (3 people) from the dining room prepare all of the food is very impressive. Their French style is very good, loaded with rich, decadent flavor. The presentation of each plate is great , despite the somewhat small portion size. I would suggest trying the pre fixe menu for lunch. It's rotational and allows you to try 3 dishes of your choice an appetizer, entree and dessert. I'll definately be going back to check out the dinner and drinks

The decor was too sterile and white. The service was prompt ( though the restaurant was only half full) and stilted. The meals arrived too quickly giving the impression of being rushed. The food flavours did not match ( raw turnips with the duck did not gel and the sauce with the monk fish was not nice) and while the chocolate dessert was delicious, presented looking like a cow's pad did nothing for me. The tea's were lovely but the wine's were mediocre - though that could have been our poor selection. Overall disappointing, over rated and over priced. Had more enjoyable meals in Chicago at Seasons 52 and another small restaurant around the corner from there - can't remember the name but great food, wine and service for 2/3 price. R
