  • "I have been to this restaurant in the past and had a good experience. When I took my wife there for Valentine's Day, I was very disappointed. The server was pleasant and attentive. But everything else was poor. The food took over an hour after ordering. The food was not very good frankly. I will not return."

  • "Restaurant was quite slow for a Saturday night, only thing that interested the server was collecting our check. Food was below average for a. "Steak House". And over priced for the quality. I ordered a NY strip and asked for it done medium and received it rare. Will not be returning ever, there are much better restaurants that I'd rather spend $125 for my fiancée and myself to eat. Try somewhere lease! STAY AWAY!!"

  • "We used to go to this restuarant when it was Charlie's Charhouse. This fairly pricy restaurant serves prefectly average food. I ordered a New York Strip Steak, and it was tough. The garlic potatoes were horrible, both the salad, and the mushroom caps-average. The bar had good live music and good service, but very little room to dance. Probably not going back."

You get good quality food , with just enough sides, to get a real value for your moenty. We will be back, as we enjoyed the entire night!"

  • "The food has been delicious, but I feel when this restaurant, Charlies Charhouse was bought out by the restarurant group or changed their name to Black Steer, they changed the menu and pricing for items went up. Yet the only thing that changed was the name. Portions seem smaller too."

  • "The food is really basic. It could be much better with a little effort. Steak salad was basic but the steak was SUPER fatty and could not eat it. I asked for no egg. guess what, I got egg. Asked for lemon with tea, finally got it after I was finished. Waitress never asked if we wanted coffee or desert. It was a business lunch and I was NOT impressed."

  • "We went to the Black Steer because we had gift certificates. I found the menu limited. Normally I would not order a steak in a restaurant as I prefer to order something I can't or ordinarily wouldn't cook at home. The exception is a steakhouse I know to have superior quality meat (i.e. a Gibson's, Morton's etc.) that was not the case here. Although our steaks were cooked exactly to our specifications, what was listed on the menu as a 20oz. ribeye seemed to fall short of that at 1/2 inch thick and seemed to be a choice grade. The wine list was fine with a variety of selections at all price points. Cocktails were poured with a generous hand and not unreasonably priced. Our waiter was attentive and polite without hovering no problem there."

I had fresh salmon which was a special this particular evening which had a maple glaze/sauce which was out of this world!!! So good! I also order a small Caesar's salad, served on an ice cold plate which was fantastic."

  • "I found this place last Summer and have been back many times and have sent many co-workers to it and never had a complaint back. I describe it as a Chicago steak house without Chicago steak house pricing. Three of us ate there two days ago for $102. The servers are wonderful; the hostess is gracious; the managers are attentive. They have a not huge, but wide-ranging, menu. About a dozen app's, all of which are great, and the most tender calamari I have ever had. Have the flatbreads and the stuffed mushrooms, too. Do get the baked French onion soup - browned. Steaks, wood-roasted chicken, Italian and wonderful fresh fish specials every day. You won't have room, but get a dessert to take with you. APPLE PIE - get it?"

  • "My toddler's pretend kitchen food has more flavor than the good we were served at Black Steer. I had to salt and pepper the heck out of my filet mignon. The mashed potatoes tasted instant with a heap of raw chopped garlic on top. The rest of my party had a similar experience."

  • "Ordered Chicken Marsala was brought walleye pike. My husband ordered baked potatoe & received mashed potatoes. We ordered a 2nd drink & did not receive until we were almost done w/our dinners. To top the night off I had a hair in my mashed potatoes. This is not the first time for the hair in my food! My chicken was tough & not good. My husband's prime rib had no flavor. We thought it might have changed w/new name but no! Poor excuse for a restaurant. We will not go back. We did not say anything to our waiter about the awful experience we just wanted to leave!"

The 'personal' touch or the "you're really important to us" feeling was not there. While she was professional and did her job, there was no personal connection established and thus the less than 5 star rating."

  • "We were at Black Steer the Saturday after Valentine's day. We had a 7:15 reservation and had to wait 15 minutes for our table. Three of the four of us in our party decided that we would get the Prime Rib special. The server then told us that they were already out of the prime rib. And he added that they were also out of the Rib Eye on the Bone, which would have been our second choice. Two of us decided on the NY Strip steak. I chose the Horseradish topping and was informed that they were out of it. I thought that the server was kidding, but no...no horseradish. Then we were told that they were also out of baked potatoes. We chose the mashed and they were probably instant (and cold). This had been one of our favorites in the area."

  • "The restaurant was nice, we enjoyed the ambiance... We actually didn't mind that it took over an hour to receive our order. what was disappointing is when we got our order, it included substituted items because they had ran out of some of the items we requested. We would have appreciated the courtesy of letting us know before placing french fries instead of the rice I ordered on my plate. We were fairly unhappy, it would have meant more if the manager actually came to our table to help the situation, but instead all communication came through via the waiter to eventually tell us that the meal was on the house. We felt cheap, we were not trying to get a free meal but wanted to share a moment. We ended up paying for what we ate and went home."

  • "We dine at Black Steer often. We have always enjoyed the menu and appreciate the good food at reasonable cost. This time we were slightly disappointed. I ordered one of the specials for the night, Shrimp with Pasta in a Vodka Sauce, which was fabulous. Very very tasty and very generous portion with a good amount of very fresh tasting shrimp. My husband ordered the Prime Rib special, which they had completely run out of. OK, we understand that can happen so her ordered the Bone In Rib Eye Steak instead. The steak was very thin and not very good. For the price, it was a disappointment. Otherwise, everything else including our service was outstanding as always."

  • "We were joking because some couples were leaving before we received our entrees who had been seated after us. What we should have realized is they were walking out. From waiting over an hour beyond our reservation time, to telling the waiter 3 times what our drink order was, to waiting an hour from the time soup and salads came out for our entrees to arrive (which were not what we ordered) to being at a restaurant for over 3 hours for dinner on a Friday night...Priceless This establishment needs a Restaurant Rescue"

  • "This is a gem of restaurant but get there early so the noise level is lower. The food was delicious. We went on Valentine's Day and I had the filet mignon with crabmeat, asparagus spears and hollandaise sauce with a baked potato. My husband and his friend had the walleye with almonds, veggies and potato. They loved the walleye. We did not eat dessert as we were so full. There was also a special four course dinner for Valentine's Day for two people. I was impressed with the fact that I was able to get some of the best French onion soup I have ever had with my meal and no extra charge. The drinks were not watered down and that was good. Our server was "Craig" and he was marvelous. Always on top of everything!!"

However at one point the waiter brought out my daughters food which was great since she was hungry so we assumed ours would follow. Didn't realize it was going to be 20 more minutes. Once the restaurant started packing up it seemed we were forgotten about. Seems when it's a holiday they should have more then one cook to speed the flow better. Natalie K"

  • "had reservations at 815 did not get seated till 845 ordered our food saw the waiter maybe 3 times in an hour and a half by 1015 we had enough we left did not even get our food there's no reason and establishment like that should have problems in the kitchen... I had talked to customers while I was waiting to be seated they had said it's good place to eat, good food unfortunately having to wait an hour to have to get my meal changed my mind. and on my anniversary no less!!!!"

  • "We eat out alot! But I never heard of Black Steer until they gave us gift certificates for a benefit I was doing for a friend. We won the gift certificates. Being that it was in Elk Grove, it took us awhile to go and try the place. Sorry we waited so long to do it. The Food and Service were FANTASTIC!!! Best Prime Rib I had had in a long long time. Perfectly cooked and tasteful. Got home and put it out on Facebook for a place everyone needed to try. They would not be sorry! Thank you for the donation, as I never would have known you were there if it had not been for your kindness. Sandy Ziros"

  • "Itasca, IL. - My wife and I with friends visit Black Steer in Elk Grove Village usually 3-4 times per month. Each experience is good and consistent. Very clean and modern restaurant including kitchen and washrooms. Nice varied menu, excellent Filet and broasted chicken. Well made cocktails, decent pours. Nice weekly entertainment in bar with lots of seating for dining and listening to live music along with dancing. Friendly and helpful wait staff. Management involved as well. They try to make you happy and satisfied. Try it, you'll like it."

  • "All the prices were increased by $2, food was so so. Service is so so, waiters/Waitress just going through the motions-had to flag down our waiter 4 times, he was to busy. Restaurant was like a cattle call (loud and extremely crowded) like they were not prepared for the NYE crowd. Had a reservation at 7:00 got in at 8:00 (really and we had a reservation) WOULD NEVER GO BACK on a HOLIDAY>>>>>>>> To many other nice places and we go out for dinner every NY's eve."
