  • "Mom has been pestering me for about 18 months to take her here. So I painlessly made a reservation and was treated to a very enjoyable evening. I had a party of 5 - one being 10 and another 14. They were delighted that there was a "normal" kids menu with items like burgers, chicken fingers and pasta on them. The rest of us were just as excited about the menu from the beet salad, to the fried green olives, to the red snapper and pork chop and pig ears. My mother had fried green tomatoes and she was a step closer to heaven. My 14 year old even ginned up the courage to ask for a bite and he enjoyed it. I fell out of my chair. My steak was cooked perfectly and my niece raved about the red snapper. Service was impeccable. Birthday cake was yum."

  • "Whenever we have a friend visit from out of town, Black Sheep is our go to place to take them. The service is always amazing and food is even better. In fact, I am craving the savory blue cheese bread pudding, soup and shrimp n' grits right now. We have only had one not so great service experience that made us not want to go back for a while but could not stay away too long. We just told ourselves that the server must have had a rough night because she came back at one point smelling like cigarettes; we also told ourselves if we were ever placed at her table again, we would tell her to tighten up or just not sit at her table. Anyway, we went for the 4th and had the best time, best service and food/drinks. If you have not been, go."

  • "Went to Black Sheep after searching on Trip Advisor for a place in Riverside Jax. Place was neatly done, not fancy. Service were quick. Got the fried olives and a smoked trout appetizer. Olives were a bit salty but enjoyable. Trout was good. Ordered the mussels which had a great beer based broth. We tried a chicken dish, crispy red snapper and a fish of the day (forgot type). Everything was really tasty! Chef mixed flavored well. Overall, thought it was an outstanding flavorful meal. Good craft beer selection as well"

  • "We celebrated our 41st wedding anniversary at Black Sheep and couldn't be more pleased. The menu included some unique items (e.g. crispy pork ears--which we didn't try) for the more adventurous. We did try the fried pork skins snack and they were excellent. The endive salad with blue cheese and pears was amazing. One of the best things we had was the mushroom bread pudding. It comes with the beef short rib, but is also available as a side. Be sure to try it! Yum! They even treated us to a complimentary dessert for our anniversary. Great milkshakes. The blueberry pie was good, but a little dry. Go with the milkshake. The service was top notch. They kept a carafe of water on the table, but the server kept our glasses full so we didn't use it."

  • "I had dinner w/ 6 of my girlfriends and our food was outstanding. We started with mussels and fried olives. (you need to get extra bread to soak up the sauce of the mussels; devine!) Our entrees ranged from the lil moo ravioli to chicken to fish. Apparently the short ribs were the best but we all thought our invidual dishes were incredible. Camille was our server and she was top notch. We ordered a bottle of pinot grigio, only to discover it was really tart. She immediatley made another suggestion we all enjoyed enormously. (We asked her to taste the wine and she agreed, it was simply a bad bottle.) Dessert was a mixture of the cheesecake (totally worth the calories) to milkshakes (skip, nothing special.) Would absolutely recommend."

  • "Went for brunch on Sunday and it was delicious! We were on our way to the airport and a local recommended this restaurant. All of our meals were great, eggs, sandwich and pancakes. Had an amazing waiter as well. Will be back if I'm in JAX again!"

  • "Hostess left the worst first impression. But the food made up for it. The first bite drowned the rest out. Great ambience! Even with a bar full of sports fans watching an event. Can't wait to come on a night where the weather allows the roof to be open. Best chicken ever. Great cocktails. Very good server. Cheese and meat plate was fantastic."

  • "A definite add to our restaurant rotation. Started off with drinks made with natural ingredients no syrups or bottled mixers. Bartender uses different varieties of bitters in the drinks which added nice touch. I personally enjoyed the Dusty Boot, definitely going to try and duplicate. Appetizers were excellent the scallops and pork belly was excellent albeit one small piece of pork belly, but the Poutine stole the show. Freshly cut fries with chunks of beef and the delicious short rib gravy. Dinner did not disappoint, the Steak Au Poivre was cooked to perfection. The Berkshire Pork Chop was excellent but the surprise was the gold rice middlins, it was like a creamed corn but 100 times better."

  • "Great roof top bar for views of water/ riverside area. No reservations on roof top ( first come first serve) on tables for dinner. Very popular and crowded. Downstairs reservations recommended handcrafted cocktails. Farm fresh food - great flavor combinations and limited menu but something for everyone. Limited parking but you can park in Publix parking lot and walk over. Very good!"

  • "Our experience at Black Sheep was certainly very good. The menu offered plenty of choices from unique crispy pig ears to more common items such as green fried tomatoes and lots there in between. We dined with our daughter and the staff was very friendly towards my daughter which clearly is very important to us. They had some interesting wines on there list, which is nice to see given their "off the ordinary path" menu. Keep it up - We sure will be back"

  • "This is one of our favorite restaurants and my wife and I have been a couple of times and plan to go again often. The food is excellent. The ONLY reason I didn't give five stars was because my medium rare burger came out medium to medium well. The burger was still very tasty, even if a little dry. My wife's shrimp and grits were perfection! If you go on an evening that the weather is pleasant, make sure to sit on the roof deck. The view is awesome!"

  • "Every time we are in Jacksonville we like to stop at this restaurant. Very creative menu with an assortment of unusual pairings. The salads are fresh and some are a meal in itself. This time I tried the endive salad which didn't disappoint. The shrimp and grits spectacular--with no skimping on the shrimp. Attentive wait staff, but not overly in your space. Sampled the bread pudding that someone in our party ordered and that was amazing. Also tried the fried green olive appetizer which was quite good."

We were a little surprised to find that at lunch, you order, then sit and they bring your food to you (like fast-casual dining). However, when we mentioned that was a surprise and a little unworkable for our group, they graciously sat us and took our orders."

  • "Dining and drink on a rooftop is a rare treat in Jacksonville. Blacksheep has an amazing rooftop and they serve unique drinks and food. My friends and I had a wonderful brunch on the rooftop with copious amounts of delicious beverages (Heaven's Gate FTW) and food (Cardamom pancakes). The fresh air and wonderful view certainly didn't hurt either. At night this place is very popular. We are huge fans."

  • "This restaurant is amazing! The decor, the rooftop bar, the wood floors and paneling.. everything about this space is beautiful. Great wine list, I love that Black Sheep tries to use local farms as much as possible, and that they are very conscious about making environmentally friendly food selections. The meat and cheese selection is fantastic, and the dessert to die for!! I had the creme brûlée and it was so deliciously creamy and flavorful (with hints of lavender!) ... undoubtedly the best I have ever had. Exquisite. A bit on the pricey side, but for the atmosphere and food it is well worth every dollar. I prefer this venue for wine/cheese/appetizer/dessert and not as much the entrees (even though they have some terrific dishes)."
