A word from Black Cat
Black Cat Farm Table Bistro serves inspired, organic cuisine based on the just-picked produce from its own 130 acre farm. By day, Chef-Farmer Eric Skokan cares for the vegetables out in his fields. Each evening finds him in the kitchen crafting dishes on his daily changing menu.

The restaurant's wine list places the great wines of the world side-by-side with small, off-the-beaten-path producers from lesser-known regions.

Daily pairing menus give our sommeliers ample opportunity to dip into the 400+ selection cellar, and vary in focus from Northern Italy to organic wines of the Pacific Northwest.

Hand-crafted, seasonal cocktails featuring artisanal spirits and local ingredients show the talent of our professional mixologists who make our bar spring to life.

The Black Cat has a lively, warm atmosphere in its intimate dining room. It is located in the heart of Boulder, CO, just off the historic Pearl Street Mall.

The Black Cat is a culinary experience, indeed. Chef/Owner Erik appears to visit all his guests at their tables, sharing his pride and professionalism and his obvious love for food and farm. Our meal was wonderful and included duck, rabbit and risotto, all prepared with freshness and flavor at the forefront, but with presentation and service to match. When I couldn't decide on which wine I wanted with dinner, our lovely server allowed me a tasting to see which I preferred. Loved that! It is definitely a place for special occasion dining (meaning, it's pricey, but you'll enjoy a special, foodie experience). Back rooms of the restaurant are quieter and more intimate. Request if you want this more romantic setting.

We hadn't been here in years & thought we would give it another try. We both had the tasting menu & loved it. The food was beautifully presented & delicious. The regular menu was a little sparse but I am sure that's because it was based on the food harvested from their garden that morning. Great concept & we will definitely be back.

We had a great meal overall. Pleasure to meet the owner and have him describe the food to us -- it really makes you appreciate the care they take with their food, and it's great to know that we were eating greens picked that same morning. I ordered the salmon, which I was told was a sustainably farmed fish. I was pleasantly surprised when the owner delivered instead a wild king salmon. I think it was the best salmon I've had in Colorado, and it was perfectly cooked. Only better salmon I've had was in Vancouver or Seattle, which is where the salmon call home.

The Black Cat staff and owner made our anniversary celebration memorable with excellent service, complimentary sparkling rose, and "happy anniversary" written in chocolate on our desert. This farm-to-table restaurant is fantastic. I highly recommend ordering the 4 course chef's choice. Each dish was wonderful. The atmosphere is formal but very relaxed and the meal was paced perfectly with a slight pause between courses. We really enjoyed talking to the owner/farmer/chef about his farm and restaurant when he delivered two of our courses to our table.

I chose Black Cat for a birthday celebration -- people were very nice, and one of the co-owners visited the table a couple of times and was very lovely. The amuse bouche was fabulous and flavorful, and I had high hopes for our meals. However, our waiter, though well-intentioned, effectively interacted with us like it was 1992, with an excessively hoity-toity vibe. Our entrees ranged from "meh.." to "not bad" -- but frankly I expect more when we are spending $70/person for dinner. We ordered wine to have with our meals and then watched and waited while our waiter stood at a computer, presumably putting in other orders. We finally had to flag someone else down to get our wine after having consumed a good portion of our entree. Overall I just have to say it was, unfortunately, a really underwhelming experience. I asked my friend if he would ever go back and he emphatically said, "No". And I concur.

Out of towners celebrating special day in Boulder. Each ordered exquisite tasting menu individualized for our preferences - vegan for her, omni but "no organ meats" for him. Charming and attentive service, given complete descriptions of each course on the tasting menu, great sommelier advice & madeira explanations. We were stuffed afterwards (unusual for a tasting menu). Met owner/chef/author whose careful hand shows - delightful night.

Our only complaint was that the server never offered drink refills or coffee with our meal. We order the prixe fixe sampler, which was fabulous, but other than the secondary servers bringing our courses, we never were offered more wine or beer. At such prices I expect stellar service. Plus they need to block the very cold air coming in the door for the tables near the window (request a table in the back in the winter).

We've eaten at all of Boulder's best restaurants and Black Cat tops the list. The food, the Chef's Tasting Menu was a seven course journey through the pantry and larder of this farm-owned restaurant. It doesn't matter what it was because tomorrow will be different. It changes based on what came in from the farm that morning. Needless to say, each fresh ingredient was celebrated by a preparation that showed off its personality best. We ordered the wine parings to go with the meal, which added a delightful spin to the already perfect meal. Hint: Don't eat too much of the wonderful focaccia bread. You will be full at the end of the meal. Great place for quiet conversation because the noise level is super-low.

i travel the country for work and done in many high end restaurants. The Black Cat compares to the very best of them. The food was incredible. The service was attentive, thoughtful, and had great personalities. They made us feel like their only guests. We did the tasting menu with the basic wine pairings. The sommelier told us about the wine with such incredible detail, it made every glass that much better. But good service alone does not make a greTvrestaurabt. The food quite literally was spectacular. I had many plates I'd never order on my own and loved each of them. The only restaurabt I ate at recently where the food compared was Rick Bayless's Topolobampo in Chicago. The Black Cat is a real gem.

Black Cat is a unique experience that breaks with a somewhat formulaic approach by restaurants in the same league in Boulder. While subscribing to some of the same fundamentals - such its own, local source of ingredients - it also brings a unique design and service flavor. On the design side, several alcoves offer wonderfully romantic nooks to celebrate special occasions with your half orange (spanish expression for significant other - you are the other half orange). Whether by design or by happenstance, the people who create your experience are very personable and interact in what I can only call a charming and quirky way. It stays away from "another serious and important foodie experience" and delivers a fun and campy interaction.

Our fourth time at Black Cat was highly anticipated but fell a bit short though the food, as expected, was extraordinary. It was homecoming weekend in Boulder and the town was a bit crazy. We arrived at Black Cat a few minutes early and were seated at a table adjacent (or basically in) the bar. Tight, a little noisy. Staff was attentive when we arrived, lax and distracted as our dinner -- the tasting menu -- proceeded. It was a night of starts and stops. First few courses came too quickly (wines backed up) the we had a 30 minute wait for one of the later courses. Sommelier was great at the beginning then didn't see him fir the remainder of the meal. All in all, I'll chalk it up to an off night, though the food was spectacular. Will go back.

My first visit dining here, after many stops by their sister concept, Bramble and Hare. My girlfriend and I were interested in the six course tasting menu with wine pairings, our waiter convinced us to try the premium set, as those wines are generally older and more exclusive. I was very happy with how everything played out, we were not rushed, and each course and the wines associated with them were described in detail. Service was accommodating and professional, without being stuffy. We can't wait to go back.

My wife and I opted for the Chef's tasting menu with regular wine pairings (excellent - premium is available too). The service was outstanding from our waiter, the sommelier and Chef Eric, who spent a good amount of time at each table, presenting at least one course. All six courses were delicious. Standouts were a cured trout with eggplant caponata, a confit turkey orecchiete with leek cream (raised lowly turkey, bred on their farm, to heights I didn't know were possible), and the dessert - an almond financier, goat cheese-filled donut hole and chocolate mousse over creme anglaise. It was in the debate for the best dessert my wife and I have ever had. The only misstep I would say was the beef tenderloin was bordering on medium well.

Our first course was really good, but the entrees were sloppy and not very good at all. We expected more for $30 a plate. My dish was a combination of duck confit, turkey and goose which sounded great, but came in a pile with a bunch of other items that looked like leftovers. One of the piles on my plate (the squash) was cold. When I asked if it was supposed to be cold they claimed it was. I told them I wasn't enjoying it but they didn't care or follow up on it. Bad service and mediocre food are not signs of a good restaurant.

We had never been here; thought the menu too meat heavy. But a stranger encouraged us to go, saying they can do any kind of special order. We made reservations on line, where I noted under "special requests" that our party included two tweens, two adults and my 80-year old mother. I wasn't sure what I was requesting but wanted it to be a special night and that it was. We got a booth in a sort of cave that was beautifully decorated and gave us some privacy. I had the 8-course meal with bass, and paired wines. Mom had excellent pork. Kids had 2 servings polenta and fresh carrots (no charge!) and shared our food. Husband had veg ratatouille. Excellent and knowledgeable service, including a chat with the owner/farmer/cook. All fabulous!

Every detail of our meal was perfect from the way we were greeted to our table to the attention we received from both our waiter and the sommelier. We had a chef starter of raw salmon, then an heirloom salad and we each had the duck. Most of the time when I order a main course, it doesn't come with much more than the meat and maybe an afterthought of a starch and veggie. When the plates arrived, I was amazed at how much food we received and how incredible it was.

The Black Cat was as good as any place I have been in NYC. And that includes the highest rated by The New York Times. I am so pleased to find such great quality food and service that was just outstanding. We sat by the window looking in on the kitchen, and the care given to each dish was breathtaking. Thank you.
