A word from Black Cat
Black Cat Farm Table Bistro serves inspired, organic cuisine based on the just-picked produce from its own 130 acre farm. By day, Chef-Farmer Eric Skokan cares for the vegetables out in his fields. Each evening finds him in the kitchen crafting dishes on his daily changing menu.

The restaurant's wine list places the great wines of the world side-by-side with small, off-the-beaten-path producers from lesser-known regions.

Daily pairing menus give our sommeliers ample opportunity to dip into the 400+ selection cellar, and vary in focus from Northern Italy to organic wines of the Pacific Northwest.

Hand-crafted, seasonal cocktails featuring artisanal spirits and local ingredients show the talent of our professional mixologists who make our bar spring to life.

The Black Cat has a lively, warm atmosphere in its intimate dining room. It is located in the heart of Boulder, CO, just off the historic Pearl Street Mall.

BC's food is exquisite, and doing its food sampler with the offered wine pairings makes for a lengthy, pricey, but spectacular meal. It's not a place to drop by each weekend, but for a very special meal it's an outstanding location.

My first visit dining here, after many stops by their sister concept, Bramble and Hare. My girlfriend and I were interested in the six course tasting menu with wine pairings, our waiter convinced us to try the premium set, as those wines are generally older and more exclusive. I was very happy with how everything played out, we were not rushed, and each course and the wines associated with them were described in detail. Service was accommodating and professional, without being stuffy. We can't wait to go back.

  • Chef's Tasting Menu

My wife and I opted for the Chef's tasting menu with regular wine pairings (excellent - premium is available too). The service was outstanding from our waiter, the sommelier and Chef Eric, who spent a good amount of time at each table, presenting at least one course. All six courses were delicious. Standouts were a cured trout with eggplant caponata, a confit turkey orecchiete with leek cream (raised lowly turkey, bred on their farm, to heights I didn't know were possible), and the dessert - an almond financier, goat cheese-filled donut hole and chocolate mousse over creme anglaise. It was in the debate for the best dessert my wife and I have ever had. The only misstep I would say was the beef tenderloin was bordering on medium well.

Amiable service and quiet, romantic ambiance. The food is somewhat pricey that had me skeptical at first, but every bite is otherworldly. The owner/chef brings your meal to your table, describes its crafting, and recommends methods of consumption. Next time we will try the chef's sampling and be sure to add the wine pairing--we had the opportunity to observe the couple across from us enjoying it.

  • Not as good as we were expecting
    OpenTable Diner Since 2006VIP
    Dined on 10/13/2014
Our first course was really good, but the entrees were sloppy and not very good at all. We expected more for $30 a plate. My dish was a combination of duck confit, turkey and goose which sounded great, but came in a pile with a bunch of other items that looked like leftovers. One of the piles on my plate (the squash) was cold. When I asked if it was supposed to be cold they claimed it was. I told them I wasn't enjoying it but they didn't care or follow up on it. Bad service and mediocre food are not signs of a good restaurant.

We had never been here; thought the menu too meat heavy. But a stranger encouraged us to go, saying they can do any kind of special order. We made reservations on line, where I noted under "special requests" that our party included two tweens, two adults and my 80-year old mother. I wasn't sure what I was requesting but wanted it to be a special night and that it was. We got a booth in a sort of cave that was beautifully decorated and gave us some privacy. I had the 8-course meal with bass, and paired wines. Mom had excellent pork. Kids had 2 servings polenta and fresh carrots (no charge!) and shared our food. Husband had veg ratatouille. Excellent and knowledgeable service, including a chat with the owner/farmer/cook. All fabulous!

Wonderful service and fantastic food and wine pairings. Talking with the chef was pleasant and the sofa table was very comfortable and cozy. Once the restaurant was busy it was loud but that let us talk without being heard. Our only complaint was all the pictures of nude women on the walls.

We come here time and time again - when a special night is called for we can always count on the staff and food here to be exceptional. Tasting dinner is full of wonderful surprises, wine pairings that delight and inform. Also love having Bramble and Hare next door from the same crew for times when we are more relaxed and less flush - you all bring it every day and we are so thankful you are here doing your thing in our town!

Last time we dined here, the meal was a masterpiece. This time the chef's tasting menu did not achieve perfection. Rather than an orchestra, the pairings were interrupted as either the wine or the dish overwhelmed the other.

This was my second time at the black cat. The food and service was great! I have food allergies, celiac disease and a shell fish allergy.I ordered soup , salad and beef prepared two ways . The restaurant and staff takes pride and checks every meal / plate served from the kitchen to ensure the customer receives the correct meal. Thank you for taking the extra steps in preparation as well as safety for my meal. The food was delicious!

The Somme was great, we had the 6 course meal and the wine paring and explanation from the Somme was perfect. He answered all our questions and took his time. The owner brought us our food and explained each course. They're proud of their restaurant and the they show it. The prices reflect the quality of the food and service. Well worth the experience. My wife wants me to bring her back just for the food, we were traveling and we live 1300 miles from Boulder, that's how much she loved the food. Definite recommend, but make a reservation, it fills fast even during the work week.

Every detail of our meal was perfect from the way we were greeted to our table to the attention we received from both our waiter and the sommelier. We had a chef starter of raw salmon, then an heirloom salad and we each had the duck. Most of the time when I order a main course, it doesn't come with much more than the meat and maybe an afterthought of a starch and veggie. When the plates arrived, I was amazed at how much food we received and how incredible it was.

Besides the dinner events that take place directly on the actual farm that sources the food, Black Cat is the truest form of farm-to-table. Chef/Farmer Eric not only plans, plants, raises, husbands and harvests almost the entire menu, he can also give you the details on how he organically manages moths that love to worm their way into cabbages by timing his plantings in alternate rows with other moth attractors (believe me, I asked). How's that for getting to know your farmer!

Wanting to go to Black Cat since our first visit a couple of years ago, we booked a table for our Anniversary celebration. And like the first, Black Cat didn't disappoint one bit; in fact, we left feeling more impressed than after our first visit. We did the tasting menu -- paired with their premium wines -- and are *so* glad we did. Each course and wine was a surprise up until the point it was delivered to our table, and we cleared the plate on each course, and left not a drop of wine left in our glasses. Everything was exceptional, and the staff were incredibly knowledgeable about what went into each course, as well as some amazing details on the wine being service.

What a gorgeous space!! Really well designed. Interesting vodka/gin choices although I dislike the "trendy" choice of the champagne coupe as a martini server. The charcuterie offering here was top notch--fresh and innovative. Unfortunately, the entrees were burdensomely heavy- too many favors juxtaposed on one plate. Almost shockingly over-priced. If you like a cool dining vibe, this could work for you. If you're looking for thoughtful food prep, you should choose Black Cat for a cocktail and first-course and find another restaurant tor entrees.

Everything was very fresh (love the farm to table concept) and the wines were very good. We especially liked the smoked trout and the rabbit terrine.
