Black CatBlack CatThe Black Cat is great for special occasions and lives up to the high-quality standard that it promises. It is quite pricey, but if planning on celebrating and spending more than usual, there aren't many places that come close. They offer a 6 course dinner of the chef's selection, where the chef chooses the meals you receive (they do take into account preferences and allergies). This is a great way to go if you like anything and are interested in exposing your palate to different tastes. On the other hand, you can spend a little less and still get a great single course, which doesn't take quite as long. The food is terrific and of the highest quality one can find in Colorado.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWe ordered the tasting menuWe ordered the tasting menu with wine pairings and sat back to enjoy the outstanding experience, including over the top wine descriptions. Our new Boulder favorite.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGourmet farm-fresh food, delicious! We had a fantastic dinner at Black Cat. The chef/owners have four farms and raise their own veggies, poultry, pigs and lambs. Even though we were there in early spring before the crops came in, the selection and quality of the food was outstanding. The chefs "tasting menu" was 6 courses, each outstanding. The wine pairings were great, with some unique wines that I haven't had the chance to try before. Highly recommended!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMThank you, Black Cat!I was immediately impressed when I walked into Black Cat. The ambience is great, with gorgeously sophisticated chandeliers yes a warm and welcoming, cosy feel. We were seated right next to the kitchen and enjoyed watching the chefs prepare meals that made our mouths water. I would definitely return! The Chef's Tasting Menu made for one of the best dinners I have ever had in my life! My favorite dish was the scallop over celery puree, while my boyfriend loved the beef. Honestly, I could have gone for round two! Each dish came out at the perfect time, the waiters were all very friendly, and the food was amazing.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Restaurant in Boulder! In the number one foodie town in America, this restaurant deserves highest honors. The food was incredible. This chef is a genius. The way he can blend flavors all based on that day's crop. The restaurant primarily uses ingredients from the owner's organic farm and creates a menu daily based off of that day's harvest. I recommend instead of choosing your own meal, order the 6-course meal planned by the chef. It was to die for! The wine and beer list is as good as the food. The atmosphere is wonderful. You are dining at one of the nicest restaurants in the world, yet it doesn't have a snobby feel. Tables in the front offer comfortable love seats on one side, making a special romantic dinner even more romantic. Go to Black Cat!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved itLoved the couches and atmosphere and the excellent food. Yum!5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMFantasticWe will undoubtedly be back. Exquisite food with an unpretentious atmosphere.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Anniversary Dinner EVER!!5 Star Review (If I could give it 6 I would.) Last night Micki and I celebrated our 17th Wedding Anniversary, 18 years together.
We opted for the 7 course meal with premium wine parings which allowed the Chef to surprise us with each dish. The sommelier introduced each wine with descriptions that would have made any connoisseur and linguist proud. The restaurant team worked together with such dedication and finesse that they looked as if they were performing a ballet as opposed to taking care of guest.
Needless to say the food was spectacular.
A Standing Ovation For All Who Were Involved!
Expect to spend some time here to do this right. Our dinner was about 2 hours 45 minutes, like Europe where dinner is the evening.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAn outstanding dining experienceWhenever friends come into town, there are several local treasures we love to share with them including the majesty of Rocky Mountain National Park, the quirky ambiance of the Pearl Street Mall, and the delicious experience of The Black Cat. It's inspiring to enjoy how wonderful a meal can be when creativity is applied to truly fresh ingredients that have been handled with care from the moment the seed is planted until the final artistic flourish has been applied to the plate that is then graciously presented.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMThe BestTasting menu was literally the best food I've ever had.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMBest food in ColoradoThis was, without a doubt, the best meal I have ever eaten in Colorado and we hunt for the best. The food was artistically inspired and fantastically presented. Go with the chef's tasting menu and you cannot go wrong. These people are geniuses with food!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat I like about Black Cat:ExcelleWhat I like about Black Cat:Excellent foodWhat I don't like about Black Cat:If they could dial down the formal attitude, it would be one of the best places in town. The staff tries "too hard" . If they could relax a bit, so could you!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent fresh and vibrantlyExcellent fresh and vibrantly flavorful food that leaves you sad that everything you eat does not taste as fresh or good.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMbest birthday treat everwe did the chef's food pairings and the wine pairings. it was a lot of fun. the food was great. my husband said the parsley was the best he'd ever tasted. We all loved all 8 tastings. the deserts were great. the beef, pork, lamb was great. it was all great.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went with the Chef's menuWe went with the Chef's menu that evening and it was, simply put, incredible. They took note of my wife's food allergies and restrictions and not once had an issue with anything they brought us in that regard. Our server was delightful, we even got a great story about the wine we order from her :)4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMOpted for their devine tastingOpted for their devine tasting menu. They were able to accommodate my dietary request & gave me 8 small plates of surprises. Highlights were smoked trout, roasted wild salmon, passion fruit sorbet & a plate of 3 different desserts. The chocolate mousse & cinnamon mascarpone beignet were all delicious but the coffee in-an-espresso-cup ice cream complete with foam was heavenly. I would order the tasting plate again just to see (& taste) the chef's imagination.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMQuite truthfully the bestQuite truthfully the best meal of my entire life! The food was delicious, seasonal and local and the wine pairings literally took my breath away. The service was fantastic, never interrupted a single conversation and I feel like that was a point of pride among the staff. The sommelier was incredibly knowledgable and her descriptions were artistic and spot on. Made our third anniversary something else entirely! Thank you! We'll be back seasonally for sure. And the bill was everything you'd expect from a sensuous experience4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMLights-out!Took my wife here for her birthday. Everything was fantastic! We did the Chef's tasting menu and HIGHLY recommend that. Portions were perfect and we felt very satisfied at the end, but not bursting at the seams. Service was impeccable and the wine pairings were lights-out! Eat here!!!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMMenu uses fresh ingredientsMenu uses fresh ingredients grown in local area; changes frequently based on what's available. Lots of different tastes- good variety of items (fish, meat, vegetarian). Enjoyed it immensely! Want to go back to try the food and wine pairing dinner with the menu selected by the chef.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMA truly excellent experience!A truly excellent experience! We'll be back for sure.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMAll the Farm animals cooked up YumThe carnivores in our group loved this place and every morsel that hit our plates. The vegetarians in our group were frustrated by the lack of choice. Our group of six tried a combined ten different items and each one was memorable. Cocktails prepared in (Black Cat owned) Bramble and Hare before dinner by the excellent barman Griffen added to our pleasure.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food on quiet Tuesday eveningBlack Cat is now a neighbor, raising their own pigs and other animals just down the street. So, for a celebration we thought we'd finally go. Best pig I've ever had. Tenderloin, loin, and head cheese selections with veggies and polenta. Quite good. My wife had a vegetarian plate of root vegetables, black garbanzos, and other goodies. Excellent. Wine was perfect. Quiet Tuesday night.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMBlack Cat is all that!We went with the Prix Fix menu and WOW! It was awesome. Everything was fresh, delicious, and thoughtfully prepared and presented.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMI really loved the Chef'sI really loved the Chef's Tasting Menu--unique, tasty combinations of food that you'd never imagine (unless you were an excellent chef with access to great ingredients). The restaurant space is much more intimate than many of the larger restaurants in Boulder. And the service was great too!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Salmon was the best IThe Salmon was the best I had all year especially over Risotto. The fresh cooked vegetables completed the perfect meal. The $20 glass of White Burgundy was not worth the price - too light, not as crisp as I expected.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMDecided to celebrate our anniversayDecided to celebrate our anniversay at Black Cat. They made it special for us in every way. Food is outstanding, service professional and relaxed at the same time. They gave us a quiet corner and yet we could watch the snow fall from the front windows.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMGet the chef's tasting menuGet the chef's tasting menu with the wine pairings...totally worth it!3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMCertainly one of the bestCertainly one of the best restaurants in Boulder! the food is excellently prepared - fascinating combinations - almost exquisite.
the wine list is spare - but well structured.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMThe sommelier was very passionateThe sommelier was very passionate and made great suggestions.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMI really like Black Cat.I really like Black Cat. The food is creative without being fussy and it has a great vibe. There are couches lined up against the walls with curtains that separate the tables, which makes for a very clubby atmosphere. My only complaint is the wine list. The girls and I were looking for a guzzle-able chardonnay. Nothing fancy just drinkable. The cheapest bottle was $56! I think that's pretty absurd. There were glasses for $15 and up... I wish they would expand their wine list and offer a few more affordable wines.3/7/2013 12:00:00 AMMagnificentOne of the best meals my wife and I have ever experienced.1/1/0001 4:00:00 PM
