Diner Reviews
  • "Another lovely dinner at the Black Bass Hotel. It never disappoints. We are now dining there weekly as look forward to our next visit."

  • "What a beautiful place for a superb meal! We had a lovely view of the river from our table on a perfect summer night. The food, from the roasted corn chowder to the scallops with summer succotash to the homemade cheesecake ice cream was to die for! The service was friendly and very professional (such attention to detail!) I will keep this place on a short list of favorite restaurants."

  • "The hostess was super; she appeared to hold it together for the entire staff. A little disappointed in the food but everything was great"

  • "I requested a table outside when I reserved thru Open Table. The disinterested hostess seated us inside, elbow-to-elbow with a foursome. She moved us when we asked: there was plenty of room outside. Service was great - almost TOO fast. We were finished in an hour! Cappuccino was awful- the wonderful server quickly replaced it- the 2nd cup was no better. While the outside seating was calm & beautiful, when we left we went back inside to total bedlam: crowded and noisy. Good for business, but not for us. When I got home I was disappointed to see that the busboy only boxed my strip steak, not the potatoes & awesome creamed spinach. But I'd go back for the setting & the food. Scallops were delicious. And the valet was efficient & polite."

  • "We loved the Black Bass from the friendly valet parking attendant to the fantastic lavender creme brulee! Excellent entrees with wonderful presentation: we had the scallops and the duck, both tantalizing. Perfect wait staff made the experience complete."

  • "The Black Bass is a great place to mix business and pleasure. The ambience is relaxed and relaxing, especially when you start dinner while the daylight still highlights the scenic view of the Delaware River. The food is consistently good. The seafood dishes are highly recommended. Expect specials that make choosing from an already impressive menu even more challenging."

  • "One of the members of our party was charged for the whole bill, although others paid separate bills for their fare. Waiter actually debited her card twice. Took two days to resolve with bank and restaurant."

  • "Our dinner at Black Bass was delicious. Lovely view and beautiful historical Bucks county location."

  • "Our experience at the Black Bass was perfect from the moment we stepped through the front door. We were treated as if we were old friends gathering at ones home. The service was excellent, the view of the river was perfect as we dined outdoors, and Mr. Ross welcomed us so warmly. He is quite the story teller about the Inn and just makes everyone feel so welcome and like an old friend. Our meal was done perfectly, everything arrived at the same time and my dining companions had an exceptional evening. The evening special of a whole fish was delicious, as were the scallop entre and the steak. I would hope everyone would be able to dine here to enjoy a lovely evening with friends or family. Thank you so much Mr. Ross."

  • "We haven’t been to the Black Bass Hotel in years. We went for the champagne brunch mainly for the view of the Delaware River. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food and the attentive service. The staff was as good as the food with friendly suggestions. This will be our new “go to” place for brunch"

  • "I booked a reservation for a nice evening out to celebrate an anniversary with my wife and was told that we could sit inside or outside on the deck. When we arrived on time and I was told that we would have to wait an additional hour or more to sit out on the deck so we opted to sit inside on a beautiful night. Our Appetizers were very good, recommend the calamari. Another round of drinks delayed the waitress joked that she keeps forgetting us. My wife ordered soft shell crabs and they were very good. I ordered a strip steak and it was just okay. We were really excited to splurge a little and enjoy a nice night out, my wife and I had a great time despite the lack of service and so-so food. Sad to say that we will not be back anytime soon."

  • "With its position on the Delaware River, the ambience is amazing. The service is also excellent. They accommodated my many food sensitivities with grace and imagination. I usually just take out what I can't eat. The kitchen mad substation suggestions and it was great. It was a great anniversary dinner."

  • "Sundays champagne brunch is always great along with the service. Sitting outside with views if the river is gorgeous. They have umbrellas at every table so you're not uncomfortable sitting in the sun. They are pretty good about refilling our champagne it's part of the Sunday brunch. Will return next weekend."

  • "A lovely brunch, the staff was wholly tolerant of the fact that we biked to the Inn from up the Delaware canal path and arrived a little wind blown and bespattered. The waitress was personable and attentive and unstinting with the champagne. The menu was an interesting divergence from the usual brunch fare, well prepared and beautifully presented. The views of the Delaware from the main dining room are expansive and you get some interesting people watching following the foot traffic over the bridge to Bull Island."

  • "Our reservation must have been lost because it took almost an hour to get our table. We spent the time at the bar which was enjoyable but it seemed lots of other diners got their table long before we did. However the wait was worth it and our dinners were wonderful! Lovely evening."

  • "The signature dish, Charleston meeting street crabmeat has remained on the menu through thick and this at this historic venue. It gets smaller and smaller and the cognac ratio has diminished. Our server was a lovely woman. The management....not so much. Lunch for two with cocktails and tip was $170. Yet were were bum rushed out because a large group was coming in. (Not even a complimentary dessert or drink at the bar was offered). The view is bliss; it's extremely overpriced for the quality and quantity of the food. I can almost accept that, but not the bum's rush."

  • "We arrived early so we went to the bar for a drink. Vicki, the bartender, was sweet and sociable. At dinner we were seated right along the large windows overlooking the Delaware. It was beautiful. We had empanadas and the firecracker shrimp for appetizers. They were both good, but the sauce that comes with the empanadas was RIDICULOUS. I do not know what was in it, it tasted of a guacamole/cilantro combination, and we slathered it on the empanadas. Yum. For dinner, we ordered the scallops (which were HUGE and delicious), and the Charleston Meeting Street Crab. O - M - G. We were giggling as we were eating it because it was just.so.good. Oh and a side of crispy grits! AMAZING! Best birthday dinner ever. Definitely will be back. Soon!"

  • "We chose Black Bass for our wedding luncheon. The service was superior: our waitress, Zoe, was attentive, informed, responsive to all of our questions, and most supportive of the joyousness of our occasion. Zoe definitely added to the pleasure of our Black Bass experience. Also figuring in our choice was the need for a gluten free menu. The cake you provided was superb; the range of choices for gluten free was excellent. Our only concern was that French fries offered on gluten free were not (Zoe checked for us) Gluten free. The Black Bass setting and ambiance are, of course, extraordinary. A wonderful experience!"

  • "I took my wife to celebrate our 34th anniversary and we were not disappointed. While at a window table overlooking the Delaware River we thoroughly relished the chateaubriand for two. OK the rolls were a little dry and the beer list limited but all was forgiven when we dug into the perfectly cooked beef covered with abundant chunks of crab in Bernaise sauce."

  • "Dinner tasted wonderful: Crabcakes, excellent squid appetisers, Tuna and Barramundi main course. But we both spent the entire night getting up repeatedly to drink water to hydrate after consuming much too much salt. The view of the river is unbeatable"

  • "We went for the view but will go back for the delicious food. A well rounded, interesting menu and an accommodating talented kitchen surprised my father and I who are touring the Delaware River Restaurants. The fish was perfect. The salad was fresh and interesting without being trendy. The cold soup was refreshing and onion soup sublime. The desserts were irresistible. While we spent a pretty penny we could have managed a delightful lunch or dinner at a reasonable expense by having less. However, we would have missed the best meal we have found along the Delaware."

  • "The chilled cucumber soup with Cajun spices was a great way to start off a meal. I've been here many times before, but this was the first time that I had the Charlestown Meeting House crab. I'm so glad that I did; it was an excellent choice!"

  • "Today we went to the Tavern to try that menu and also the locals menu which is a three course menu for $32.50. From the Tavern menu I had the Rum/Molasas painted salmon with sweet potato fries. From the Locals menu we had the Butter Lettuce and avacato salad. Then we had the 10oz NY Strip Steak and finally the awesome carrot cake. Those three items were just $32.50 What a bargin. Vickie was our server and couldn't have been more helpful and a delight for us to have her take care of us."

  • "Several great specials that night. Ceasar salad was substantial and not overpowered with dressing. View of the Delaware River was very refreshing and made for a wonderful casual evening. The upside down crab and lobster chunks with mango appetizer was delightful and filling and hit the spot on a warm summer evening. There is outside seating on the terrace but was not aware until after seated."

  • "We had a lovely brunch on the Delaware. I had very good shrimp and grits which I would rarely have outside of the south. My partners had steak and eggs which were cooked to their specifications. The meal included appetizer, granola and yogurt, and dessert. I highly recommend."

  • "I can't begin to say how pleased I was with the Black Bass! I took the family here to celebrate my husbands bday and we loved the food, service, and had an amazing view of the Delaware. Not only did all the staff wish my hubby a Happy Bday but they gave him a card and a box of chocolates. If you are looking for a special place to go the Black Bass is perfect! The 3 course meal is so wonderful! I had steak and eggs and the scones are freshly baked! I give this experience an A+! Thank you so much."

  • "Long story but I was given a dinner for two by my boss as an apology. It was sweet revenge, from the spinach salad to the pastrami spring rolls to the lamb in mint jalapeño sauce to the homemade cinnamon chocolate chip ice cream. Top it off with a romantic walk across the Delaware River on the pedestrian bridge."

  • "First time to Lumberville, PA and was not disappointed. Quite a view with the Delaware River running beside the restaurant. The indoor, historical decorations are a must see, and will leave you walking the restaurant, asking to step around people's tables to find the next treasure. The drinks were professionally made, very authentic. Paired with the fabulous food choices, it's a spot I would recommend, and if I'm back in PA in the near future, would dine at again."

  • "The Black Bass is one for the prettiest and most romanric restaurants in Bucks County. The food has really improved and the soft shell crabs that I had were excellent. My husband really liked the duck and the wine list was also very good. We will go back again soon"

  • "Chateaubriand for two (69.00) was very chewy and fatty. Both my husband and I could not finish it. Brought it home, and can bring in the remainder to show you how fatty and grisly it was. As an amends they gave us one dessert to share. We were extremely disappointed, as it was a very special occasion, and we paid full price for the whole dinner. Certainly not worth the money, and poor response from manager. Very sad and sorry, and will not be able to recommend your restaurant to anyone."

  • "My recent Sunday brunch at Black Bass seemed not on a par with prior visits. On the plus side, our server was very attentive and the view and ambience terrific as always. Our server and the kitchen also accommodated my diet with a cheese a plate rather than the high carb first course options. All very impressive. My first negative reaction came when the leg and full pastry server arrived. My friend can eat pastries and her option was either one little lemon poppy seed muffin or a scone. Not even one of each. And this is a $35 pp brunch! Next was the fruit cup w yogurt and granola. I expected fresh berries but it seemed to be canned fruit. Did I mention $35 pp?? The main course omlet was ok but not great. Is the business in trouble?"

  • "We have been coming to this place for our anniversary dinner every year (minus a few where we were out of town). I would like to say that it gets better every year but not true. This year we were placed near another couple who were very loud and obviously had tipped a few before coming to the restaurant. We asked to be moved and it was complied with. The service person kept pushing us. We wanted to take our time and enjoy our one night out at a leisurely pace. The wine list could have included a couple other common varieties. The food was good, not excellent compared to previous years. Next year we may change locations for our anniversary dinner, or maybe not."
