Diner Reviews
  • "Everything was amazing at the Black Bass. The lobster dish was delicious, and I was upset that I couldn't finish it all. Desert and cappuccino were the perfect finish to the evening. Amazing views!"

  • "First time at this lovely inn by the river. 30th Anniversary of our Wedding. Had the champagne brunch and it was quite excellent. Service was professional, attentive and friendly. I had mentioned our Anniversary to the hostess by way of apologizing for being picky about where we sat. At the end of the meal we received an unsolicited, surprise acknowledgement of the occasion. Thank you. Over and above!"

  • "Terrific views of the river in a rustic setting highlight this place. Very small on route 32 in PA just outside of New Hope. Service is a little spoty and cold and food is just okay, but its the location that makes this place!"

  • "In early April we enjoyed an indoor lunch at a window overlooking the Delaware River. Below us was an outdoor patio where some people dined. There was construction or renovation of a path alongside the river that created dust and dirt and even some spraying was going on at lunchtime. Because of the construction, be forewarned that an inside table may be more enjoyable until the project is completed."

  • "Exceptional service and food! Will definitely be going back!"

  • "We have been there before an excepted a similar experience. When we made the reservation we asked for a window table and was confirmed that it was available. When we arrived there was no window seating and we were placed in a remote corner. With no view. The view is one of my favorite things and I was excited to share it with our guests for the evening. The food was fantastic! The flavors were powerful and clearly fresh. One in our party substituted a side and there was no issue with that. The service was mediocre at best. The price was acceptable if the food was accompanied with the appropriate level of service. We might try one more time as this was not our experience with past visits."

  • "The Black Bass is a great restaurant in the heart of rural Bucks county. The location is part of the experience - right on the Delaware. The menu had a great variety and all the dishes we had tasted great! It was a little loud - not for a quiet romantic dinner, but great fun. The wine list is good and the bar made excellent cocktails."

  • "Seems to have slipped a little from the last several visits. Hostess pointed to9 our table rather than taking us to it. Gave one of us a gluten free menu that was not requested. Rice and vegetables that came with signature Charleston St crab dish routine. Gnocchi was said to be chewy. The wine pours enjoyed by the ladies were generous by today's standards."

  • "A beautiful location with spectacular view of the Delaware River makes a fabulous backdrop to excellent food, wine selection and professional service. We were so impressed with the variety of choices offered on the Prix Fixed Sunday brunch menu. Couldn't have asked for a better experience. Highly recommended."

  • "Had Sunday brunch on a rainy March day, but it was comfortable and friendly inside. Delicious food. We wanted to do something different to help my Mom celebrate her birthday, and this was a super nice touch. The champagne brunch is $35/person and includes 4 courses and homemade breads (choice from chocolate chip scones, buttermilk biscuits, and cinnamon muffins) -- a first course (the apple crepe was delicious), a second course of fruit topped with yogurt and granola, a third course selection (the petite filet with eggs was perfectly cooked), and a dessert selection (the cheesecake was light and delicious, although I could not finish it). Also on the menu is bottomless champagne, a french extra brut. Staff were all friendly, professional."

  • "I thought the prices were very high my wife's entree was$ 42.00 and mine was $34.00 ,I also got a house salad that was an extra $9.00 the food was good but not worth the price. We will not be going back."

  • "We attended brunch on a Sunday at the Black Bass. The wait staff was cheerful and helpful explaining the menu. The champagne brunch was abundant and varied. We enjoyed the shrimp and grits, and crab cake entrees. We had a choice of appetizers, and were served yogurt and fruit with granola before our entrees. All were very good."

  • "This restaurant has a gorgeous view and wonderful ambiance, but has been, at times, a little hit or miss with their food. However, the food was excellent for Restaurant Week and the choices were standard items from their regular menu. For us, the Black Bass is a "neighborhood" restaurant and we will be back soon."

  • "I am a frequent customer of this fine establishment, both for the restaurant and the bed/breakfast. This past visit was ok, maybe I should refrain from Saturdays.... the bar was packed, the restaurant staff did their best to keep the patrons pleased, but I had to rush from my table so that the next reservation could be seated. I think I will stick to weekdays when it is a very peaceful, lovely place to enjoy a fine glass of wine and excellent dinner."

  • "My family and I went to celebrate my Mother's 96th birthday. We couldn't have had a better time. This was restaurant week and the menu selection was very wide. Taken from the full normal dinner menu but at a lesser price. I had the Tilefish and my family had the house specialty of the Charleston Meeting Street Crab. The food came out piping hot. Our server Jill couldn't have been more attentive to our every need. Also, several members of the staff stopped by and also wished our Mother a very Happy Birthday. At the end of our stay our Mother was given a box of chocolate with a very nice birthday card hand written (not printed) to wish her a very Happy Birthday. We will be back for not only a regular visit but, for special occasions too."

  • "This was our first time at the Black Bass. The food was perfect. Great selections. Something for everyone. Unfortunately, the way the dining room is set up it is hard to have a private conversation with your group. Most of the table are pushed toward the windows so each table can have a view of the water. I would recommend less tables that were evenly spread out around the dining room. It is way too noisy for a private dinner. I would dine here again, but not in the dining room. The tavern seemed much more quiet and private."

  • "Outstanding. Went for Restaurant Week. Great value. Food was terrific, the décor and view of the river were beautiful. Crab cake is one of the best I have ever had. Will return."

  • "A fine dinner menu, decent wine list and a great river view, ensure an excellent evening out at the Black Bass restaurant. Always impeccable service. I loved the spinach salad with a breaded poached egg. Excellent mushroom ravioili and a well cooked strip steak. I would like to bsee a bit more adventure added to menu and wish they would bring back the spicy crawfish that was such a signature dish.. But all in all, an excellent evening out...."

  • "This old inn has been refurbished in the best of ways. Still authentic and beautifully restored. The food was delicious and we cannot wait to return to try other dishes on the menu. We liked the appearance of some traditional dishes that are seldom seen on modern menus i.e. crabmeat au gratin, their signature dish. Absolutely delicious and the best crabmeat cake I have ever tasted. Our waitress was professional and delightful. Can't wait to return to this charming find with the lovely river view and wonderful food."

  • "We found this restaurant to be a great place to celebrate a special occasion. Although the menu was not extensive, there was enough for us to choose from and enjoy. It was fresh and prepared as we asked for. The service was very good. It was a memorable experience and would be worth returning again."

  • "It was my birthday but besides that we were celebrating our 29th anniversary of the date when my husband asked me to marry him when we were at the Black Bass.We always return to the Black Bass for these two special occasions. It is a very excellent restaurant and a very romantic place. The food is always wonderful and the service is excellent ."

  • "Although rating restaurants is somewhat subjective, the Black Bass is at the top of my list for special dining. Let me start with the structure which is a a gorgeous blend of old and new. The building itself is very old although I do not know the precise date, I would think about 150 years. Refurbished several years ago, the architect preserved much of the old stonework while developing a magnificent new main dining area and, of course, the outdoor seating on the banks of the Delaware. The quality of the food is without compromise and the menu is varied. Frankly, I have never had anything less than a five star experience. Most recently, an Aso Bucco ragout that was amongst the best meals I have ever had."

  • "My husband and I went there for our 5th anniversary, and I would highly recommend it for special occasions. The level of noise was very low, the atmosphere one of the most romantic I've experienced, and the food was excellent. The service was outstanding - the server was polite and unobtrusive, the food was timed perfectly and the dishes cleared off immediately after being finished with, and there was none of the pretentiousness one sometimes finds at upscale restaurants. We'll keep coming back, excellent spot!"

  • "I made a very good meal on the soup (split pea with ham) and the slow cooked cassoulet. I like a leisurely lunch and usually get one; howvever, this time the main couse came as I was on the last spoonful of soup. No time to savour the excellent ale. She offered to take it back to the kitchen, but I thought it pointless to keep it under a lamp. Next time I'll let them know I don't want the expres lunch. Dropping +$40 should mean spending more time than 12 minutes from ordering to being served the main course."

  • "Steeped in history, loaded with charm and situated on one of the prettiest stretches of the Delaware River, the Black Bass has become a favorite for me and my husband. Having enjoyed the meals served by friendly, efficient waitresses in a relaxing restaurant, we decided to stay over one icy night for my husband's birthday even though we live only 45 minutes away. The River Suite was amazing, restored to perfection yet offering all the comforts of today...especially the beautiful, large bathroom. Would highly recommend."

  • "My husband & I went here for our anniversary. Had a view of the Delaware River - very romantic! Abundant menu choices (we do not eat red meat), fairly priced and nicely presented. We both had the pear endive arugula salad, shared the fried squid (yummy dipping sauce) and sea bass and duck breast as our entrees (perfectly cooked and presented). Our dining out mantra is: it has to be better than we can get a home. I am a very good cook so we definitely are selective in our restaurant choices. We were both very pleased."

  • "My husband and I have been going to the Black Bass for over 10 years. Although the food was good, they lost some of the charm when they remodeled. The origin ambiance is gone except in the bar area. I would still highly recommend."

  • "Good morning. We dined on Valentine's night @ 7 p.m. The restaurant ownership/management was NOT prepared well at all for the lack of parking due to the snow, the ice conditions were horrific to walk over, not enough valet boys. Parking up a hill, walking down a hill to the restaurant in ice/snow on Valentine's night was a nightmare and more than challenging. Far better preparations should have been implemented for Valentine's night. I had to take my dress shoes off, put my fiance's work boots on, just in an effort to walk down the hill to get to the restaurant, all while I'm wearing a mink coat. How ridiculous is that when you are fine dining!"

  • "It may have been a snowy setting but it certainly was a rather pleasant dining spot along the Delaware . The food was also a pleasant treat with the appetizers, entrees and ginger ice cream all good. We'll go back!"

  • "With a beautiful, scenic view and a rustic elegance, the Black Bass is definitely a destination for a terrific champagne brunch on a Sunday. The menu was outstanding -- our only complaint was that we wanted at least three of the entrees, each. Every offering sounded scrumptious!! We were extremely full and very satisfied when we left. The staff was fairly attentive, very polite. The two hostesses, however, were very young and dressed for the nightclub and not an upscale restaurant. Management should endeavor to make those ladies in particular dress more professionally."

  • "Great place. Atmosphere is outstanding. Right on river with lots of extras. From the valet to the patio with heaters and blankets, it was very cold outside. Food was excellent with a nice wine list."
