BIXWarm, Friendly, Great FoodTucked off the beaten path we thoroughly enjoyed Bix. No tourist vibe at all, super friendly staff, nice bar. Special requests were met effortlessly.6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMBites @ BixLobster spaghetti was terrific, Caesar Salad and Smoked trout salad are both worth ordering. Duck is always good there. Beautiful restaurant, traditional menu imaginatively done, reasonable service and live music. Great bar. A winning combo.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMupscale speakeasyNice interpretation of American and French dishes, a sprinkling of luxury, a fantastic set of cocktails and well matched wines. Eat here to experience the romance of old SF-reimagined.6/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat BavetteThe bavette cut of steak was great. Good flavor and very tender. My wife had the chicken hash and really enjoyed it. Maybe a bit on the loud side for my liking, but most of that is just a lot of happy people in a small place.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat atmosphere, but...I have been here a few times and love the art deco / jazz venue. Nice live piano. The one weak spot always seems to be the food. It is good, but for the prices it is not great and just doesn't measure up to some of the other finer restaurants. The staff was friendly, but the service felt rushed. I'm giving it a marginal 4 star rating.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMCan't Beat TraditionThis is a classy place. Located on a narrow lane, paneled in rich looking wood, with impeccable service. This is elegant dining of the old school style. The quality and selection of food and drink is good. The only low spot was my wife's sole was too salty to eat, but the waiter took it away and brought a different entree. My daughter (28 years old), said that the burger was the best she ever had. Of course, at $28 it was the most expensive she'd ever had. I had the pork loin and pork belly combo. The portions were small, but very tasty and perfectly cooked. The bread pudding was decadent and delicious for dessert. Valet parking is available. We parked on a nearby street with no problem on a Sunday night.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMA pleasure as always. FeltA pleasure as always. Felt a little rushed by the end of our Sunday dinner.
Crab starter was not wonderful, but the duck was.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious but NoisyIf you feel like laying down some major bucks for great food, this is the place. Gorgeous space and friendly attentive service are all part of the experience. The food takes a creative spin on American classics.
The only real issue I take with the place is the noise level. It's a very popular bar scene that gets so loud it's hard to hear the jazz band let alone the conversation at your table.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMclassic supper club vibeBix is always charming and never disappoints - unique back alley San Francisco vintage supper club atmosphere with live music and very good food and excellent service. It warrants dressing up more than most diners tend to.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMSo great we went two nights runningBoy do we love this place! My husband and I were visiting from the UK and found this little gem.
The food was fantastic the wine superb and the live effortless voice of the in house singer made the atmosphere perfect.
The first night I had the crab rolls and the duck which was exquisite. We also had an oyster course with some of the freshest oysters I've ever tasted.
Night two I had the ceviche and bavette for main course the tastes were beautiful. The portions are European size but less us definitely more. It was welcome break from the tasteless excess of the restaurants in fishermans wharf.
For a touch if class with great service it's worth a visit( or two)5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMBix always impresses...Great food, with amazing ambience. Cool jazz vibe, service was absolutely perfect, and the Banannas Foster for dessert, was to die for.... highly reccommend.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMVery accomodating. VisitingVery accomodating. Visiting from out of town. Kids hungry early. Enjoyed everything.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMReally specialWhat a wonderful evening! Our dinner was superb, and -- unlike our visit a few weeks ago --- service was spectacular. Our server, Jacqui, was attentive and lovely and made our evening special, and the hostess was welcoming and warm. Bix is a San Francisco gem.5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMSurprisingly, vegetarian friendly!I'm a vegetarian and the waiters at Bix were courteous enough to provide a vegetarian friendly custom made entrees.
Potato pillows with Crème fraîche and American Caviar was yummier than they sound. They just melted in my mouth.
Yummy Butter Lettuce - very tasty.
Brussel sprouts with lemon and olive oil - very tasty.
Can't go wrong with Spaghetti with Fava beans, some greens and parmasean. It was a custom made entree for me.
Loved the ambiance, full bar and live music during dinner. A romantic place to have nice dinner.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMFriend of a friendBix is a lovely find, a friend recommended it and I loved it. Even the locals I took with me loved it.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Mothers Day ever!I had the best night here with my sweetie. The food was great. We had oysters and steak tar tar for appetizers at the bar while our table was getting ready. Trust me drink an aviator or 3! I ate lobster spaghetti. It was the best!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMNice old fashion atmosphere.Nice old fashion atmosphere. Great bar. Very pleasant and enjoyable. Food high quality.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMRevisiting the Gold EraI always feel like I'm transported to the Gold Rush Era whenever I eat in BiX. The atmosphere is the best part of this restaurant: the bar scene is very vibrant and the tiered level elegance of the entire dining room makes me feel like I'm in a scene for the Great Gatsby. The food is very good as well. Be warned, however: it is excruciatingly noisy in this place. This is NOT for dinner parties that want to have nice conversations. There is a jazz trio on the weekends, which actually brings the noise level down one decibel, but they don't start playing until 8:30 PM.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat SpotI took my wife there for her 30th birthday and we loved it. The service was incredible, everyone that worked there was so friendly and nice. Strongly recommend the deviled eggs and brussel sprouts for appetizers. Great spot- highly recommend it.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMNew Orleans flair in San Francisco.BIX has been a personal go-to spot for lively evenings out with good friends and good food. The live jazz here is always a blast. A before-dinner Sazerac is practically required drinking, but we've discovered via process of elimination that pretty much everything on the cocktail menu is not only drinkable, but delicious. The appetizers are designed to be shared, and feature a pretty wide array of delectable finger foods. Our main courses—the duck and the swordfish—were perfectly prepared, and there was plenty to go around. Bananas Foster rounded out the meal, leaving us stuffed and satisfied. Those longing for a taste of the New Orleans experience in San Francisco will feel right at home.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMRomanticVery romantic! It is quite a suirprise when you enter this Humphrey Bogart/Frank Sinatra ambiance from the small doorway.
The service is imppecable and menu offers something for everyone wanting to experience upscale dining. We would HIGHLY recommend for a special occasion or just a night on the town with friends.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWell done!We enjoyed our evening at Bix. The food was excellent. The service was par for "fine dining." The live jazz was a pleasant addition.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMgoodit wasnt amazing to me, the food was great and the service was good, we ate early and didnt get quite the setting i was looking for. Will try again at a later date5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best!Love Bix! Food was fantastic, wait staff was great and the atmosphere is special. A great place to go for a celebration or date!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways have a good timeWe went to Bix for my husband's 40th birthday before a night out in North Beach. We live in SF and are near all the hotspots off Valencia. I love walking down the alley and all of a sudden Friday night bar crowd is laughing and having drinks. You are not rushed through your meal. We were there two hours. We have stopped by there before for just a late night drink and bananas foster at the bar. We save it for a special occasion so we can go all out and order starters, salads, entrees, bottle of wine and dessert with no care.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMtoo noisyexcellent food; good offerings; attentive service; very attractive locale; good background music. FAR, FAR too noisy. Sat across from my companion, and had to almost shout to be heard. Was literally hoarse the next morning. The noise level was caused not by the music, which was proper.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMUnfortunately, I screwed upUnfortunately, I screwed up a 6 person reservation by booking it for Friday night versus Saturday night on the Open Table app. So when we showed up on Saturday night, we obviously did not have a table. The 2 other couples I was with had never met each other so I was scrambling to find somewhere else in the neighborhood. The GM came out, greeted us personally, and assured us that everything would be taken care of. He personally brought out some small bites to eat compliments of the house and got us a table put together in about 30 mins. The food is amazing. The service is top notch. Very impressed.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMOther than a misunderstandingOther than a misunderstanding with our server in the beginning, the staff at Bix's made us feel appreciated! The food was outstanding and made our experience memorable. Kudos to the kitchen staff for the amazing food and the management that made our evening extra special.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMI would rate the night a ten.I would rate the night a ten. We had the duck and the New York steak, both cooked to perfection. Our appetizers were the crab and brioche and the smoked trout as the waiter offered to combine a half order of each--nice touch. Speaking of the waiter, he was fantastic. We did wait over 45 min to be seated for our reservation. The manager came and offered us a glass of bubbly at the end of our wait--a nice gesture. I will be back very soon!4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat find---the food wasGreat find---the food was very good, especially the appetizers!
Sit upstairs, it is quitter.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMI have been going to Bix forI have been going to Bix for the last 20 years to celebrate special occasions. It is still my favorite SF restaurant. Classic old San Francisco at it's best!
Corkage fee was very high though. $30 really!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went on a Saturday night,We went on a Saturday night, and there was live jazz music. but wonderful service and food!! we had a great time.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMA great place to Eat!Hands down, one of the best resturants in San Fransisco! I have been visiting this place since it opened in the 1980's and it has never varied. I live in LA and have never failed to visit when I am in town. It may hurt the wallet a bit but the visit is worth it. Order the Steak Tartare!4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWhile the prices are 5-star,While the prices are 5-star, so is the food, service, Wine list and overall vibe. Décor is great as is the Piano and singer in the bar area. Worth every cent for a great evening of dinner or just to have a few cocktails and listen to the music and talk. Very cool location; very San Francisco.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMClub atmosphere with great foodWe loved our meal here. We were upstairs on the mezzanine and it was quite quiet and almost cozy. Table of 4 shared the crab rolls which consisted of a mound of crab on a square of delicate brioche. My grilled swordfish special was excellent with some tasty sauteed greens on the side. I asked for no potatoes and got more veggies. Others enjoyed the duck confit, the truffled burger with truffle fries and the spaghetti with lobster. Good selection of wines by the glass.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMLOVED BixMy boyfriend and I came here to celebrate my birthday, we are from Sacramento and have only eaten at a handful of restaurants in sf. We chose Bix because I read about it on yelp. I was SO pleased, absolutely in love with the atmosphere, and the food was great! And I loved how hidden it was in the alleyway, it was a pleasant surprise and we definitely plan on returning..with friends! Ps- the service was also great, everyone was extremely polite and attentive.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMBix never disapoints. TheBix never disapoints. The only complaint I have is the lighting was dim which made reading the menu difficult.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious & AccommodatingOne word, Delicious. The concierge at the Ritz recommended this spot as an upscale local favorite & now I know why. My husband had a burger w/ truffles that was a total show-stopper (elegant man-food). House-made mozzarella wrapped w/ prosciutto melts in your mouth. Service was amazing. The chef was highly accommodating to my 9 year old son has a gluten/dairy intolerance. Would definitely go back on our next visit to San Francisco.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous as always. BruceFabulous as always. Bruce Hill is an amazing chef and the service and ambiance are equal to his beautiful menu.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely atmosphere and foodBix is situated in an alley which adds to its old jazz club feel. The ambiance and music are exceptional. Service was outstanding. The lobster spaghetti is fabulous.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMBIX Never DisappointsBIX has always been and continues to be a favorite of mine. I go there for business dinners and birthday dinners, and it never disappoints. The food is perfect every time, and our server this past time, Jackie, was awesome. This past visit, we were a group of 8, and Jackie was attentive, energetic and just perfect. Everyone at the table loved their cocktails, wine, food and dessert. We will definitely go back to BIX.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat restaurant, but veryGreat restaurant, but very noisy if you are on the main floor. I don't know if the upstairs tables were as noisy as ours. Food and service were very good, however!3/12/2013 12:00:00 AM
