The bittersweet team has an artisanal approach to hand crafted, playful and artfully created food that is not only grounded in fundamental culinary techniques but our verve for the Avant Garde. We make everything we can in-house using the best possible ingredients. By sourcing from local farms and fisheries, and partnering with those who take our same care and approach to their own harvesting and herding—we offer food that is fresh, seasonal and artisanal.
Artisanal Beverages
Bittersweet’s wine and cordial list have been hand selected to pair with both our cuisine as well as create the same interesting combinations found in our food. We feature and ever changing wine, beer and cocktail lists as well as spirits that represent both local companies and quality craftsmanship.

  • "Our food was delicious, the gazpacho amazing! The patio was a perfect place to be on a summer evening and our server could not have been better."

  • "The interior and exterior design is modern elegance with comfortable chairs. Service is prompt with very knowledgeable and helpful waiters. Food is well prepared, stunningly presented, and delicious. There is no rush to turn over the table with dinning at your pace."

  • "We brought out-of-town friends, with hopes that it would be a unique and wonderful dining experience. And, it certainly was! Great food, lovely patio and friendly service."

  • "A special occasion demanded a unique setting and outstanding food. Took a chance on Bittersuit. Glad we did!"

  • "The fresh bread to start with was amazing and then we had the Escargot, this is a must try. Both of us were pleased with the entree we chose; Scallops & Wild Boar we loved the food and will definitely be back!"

  • "Been trying to get here for some time and now we have dined at Bittersweet and it was all sweet. Menu entrees had a slightly different twist and everything was great ! A slightly larger wine selection might be helpful, although we did find a very nive Pinot Gris."

  • "Live in the immediate area and the menu never appealed to us. Right now the menu is incredible and we will be back soon to try many of the new items our server Rhea recommended. The three appetizers were incredible and the scallops and pork rib eye spectacular. Thanks for a great night."

  • "We have eaten at a number of good restaurants in Boulder, Denver, Buena Vista and Salida the last few weeks, but Bittersweet tops them all. Despite the busy Alameda the outdoor area is leafy green and quiet; the service was prompt and just enough. The sweetbreads were good (even if not great) and the cheese and charcouterie a strong contrast. The halibut was smooth and flavorful - just the right sauce, and delicious accompaniments. The wine, a solid rose recommended by the waitress, went well with it all. Dessert: cherries, sorbet and buttermilk cake was light enough to follow all this and complete the meal. I realize you might not be as fortunate as we since the menu is limited, but it was a great meal, consistent with our previous visit."

  • "We are great fans of Olaf. His combination of fresh ingredients with interesting and new twists on traditional menus makes going to Bittersweet always a fun experience. They say that great chefs are judged by how they do chicken and his is a must try!!"

  • "Outdoor patio was very nice. Some of the food was very good-some just okay. Indoor dining looked cute & intimate. Was expecting food to be outstanding at this price point-it wasn't. Indicated it was an anniversary dinner when booking on open table. There was no acknowledgement by staff, a little disappointing."

  • "Slower paced service than I'm used to but still knowledgable and friendly. The Gazpacho was pretty good and everything else excellent."
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "The food was delicious and the ambience was great. They have a beautiful garden patio. The chicken sausage appetizer was unique and the favorite at the table. The chicken was also a winner."

  • "Excellence and care abounds...but it's pricey. If you have a starter, and entree, dessert, you're looking at $75-80 before drinks, gratuity and taxes."
    Dined on 6/18/2014
  • "We enjoyed our experience at Bittersweet. My only complaint is that the portions are quite small relative to the price and I was still a bit hungry when I left."

  • "The ambiance is just ok, the food is stellar the prices are kind of high"

  • "My husband and I ate here to celebrate Father's day and we had such a wonderful evening. The food was amazing - we started with the charcuterie plate and sweetbreads, then I went on to have the bacon-wrapped halibut while he had the special, wild boar. Everything was fantastic, and our server was so much fun. My favorite thing was the garden outside, and how they are locally sourced. We've eaten at many amazing restaurants in Denver, but this has definitely cracked the top 5. Can't wait to go back, with friends!"

  • "The service we received here was top notch. The food was delicious. It was odd that there was no beef on the menu. Loved the fact that they sourced their veggies from the garden on the patio. I would return"

  • "The food was a bit pricey, especially for the portion size. The food was well prepared, but I wasn't particularly dazzled. I was delighted to see their garden while walking into the restaurant. Their ingredients tasted fresh and delicious. Love the atmosphere and the service at this restaurant is definitely above and beyond expectations. "

  • "I have wanted to go here for-EVER and when I finally got there it was a total bummer! Only three red wines available by the glass - Really??? THREE??? Come on. Food, including the bread = TOO SALTY!!! UGH!! Food is way too expensive for what you get. The serving plates are GIGANTIC! Ridiculous.. Plastic chairs on cement floors = embarrassingly noisy - put felt bumpers on the chair feet or get different chairs. It was my birthday dinner and I was so excited and the entire thing was a dud... "

  • "Delicious well thought out food with excellent service. Would have liked a salad or something green before meal. Not a lot of veggies with the meal either. Dessert was also quite tasty. Wait staff was superb also."

  • "Bittersweet never fails to make my mouth happy! We had an awesome ensemble of food along with fantastic service. Everything presented is a masterpiece. I would recommend Bittersweet to anyone---hands down! This is currently our go to restaurant. I can't wait until out of town guests visits so we can take them to Bittersweet. I always feel so content after our dining experience. Check the menu ahead of time and see if they are offering their dessert called "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil." Oh my this dessert experience alone will have you going back to Bittersweet regularly. One of the most spectacular dessert displays I have ever encountered. Not to mention the mussels, the bacon wrapped halibut, steak, Andouille......"

  • "We were very excited to go to Bittersweet, as we had a great dinner there once before. I had made the reservation 3 weeks before for 6 people and hoped to sit outside, but our table was in the very noisy inside room. It was so loud for the first hour, we had to really talk loud to be heard. By the time our food arrived, things had quieted down to a much more pleasant level. Overall, the food was very good, but not amazing, as it had been the time before. The menu changes frequently so you're never really sure what you will find. We ordered mussels and burrata and tomate salad for starters and steak, halibut, chicken and barramundi, and all portions were on the small side. Even the vanilla pannacotta was different, and not as good. "

  • "The restaurant had everything I look for: small, intimate, and a reputation for good food. It had all of those characteristics, but no one had mentioned that the acoustics were so bad that it was impossible to have a dinner conversation! All of the surfaces in the restaurant are hard -- walls, ceiling, floors -- and therefore significantly amplify all of the sounds in the room. I developed a headache from the noise. The waitstaff was wonderful, the food was just ok -- small portion sizes, but expensive. The hostess, who graciously responded to our complaints about the noise, suggested that we reserve a table outside next time. But there won't be a next time."

  • "While the service and ambience at Bittersweet were lovely, the food is disappointingly mediocre. We booked this restaurant for our anniversary after reading about it in 5280. I would never eat here again or recommend it. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the wine list and menu. Our wine was very good and very reasonably priced. The appetizers were not good. The salmon tartare was not fresh and left such a bad taste that I could only eat 1 bite ( my husband tried to eat more but we left more than half on our plate). They kindly removed it from our bill, but the spring tart was bland, and the chicken was dry and very salty. My pork was actually good but overall we were so disappointed that we left without dessert."

  • "Best during the week Food great and highly creative but noisy on weekends Always excellent service "

  • "I picked this restaurant for a date night dinner with my wife after seeing it listed as a top new restaurant in 5280 Magazine. Unfortunately it was quite disappointing. It took nearly 45 mins to get our appetizer and an hour to our meals. And when our food came it certainly wasn't worth the wait... while not bad, it definitely wasn't worth the wait or the price. Needless to say, we won't be returning."

  • "As always, the food was creative and wonderful. The drinks excellent (and strong). Nice outdoor seating. Always the best restaurant if you would like a perfect evening. "

  • "This was our second visit. We were very disappointed with the food the first time and remained so after this second visit. Everything is soooooo bland. There were three of us, each with a different dish - fish, pork, pasta. The "featured" accompaniments turned out to be half teaspoonfuls of decoration on the plate. Overall, another disappointment. Will probably not be back."

  • "Living in Baker I pass by Bittersweet almost daily. When it was first converted from a garage to a restaurant I kept telling my husband that we should check it out. He was skeptical, so we waited. We needed last minute dinner reservations and so I convinced him that Bittersweet was where we should go. We were both very happy with the choice. His comment as we walked back to the car, "That was the best meal out we've had in a few years." WOW! Honestly, the food was perfect. Absolutely. The only glitch was that once our original waitress found out we didn't drink she dropped our table. The waitress who picked it up was probably happy she did, because her tip was as much as if we had. I highly recommend Bittersweet."

  • "This is the thoughtful, creative dining that I look for. It's got the whole package: ambience, friendly and knowledgeable service, unique cocktails and food that is way, way above and beyond many restaurants. "

  • "Took mom out for her 88th birthday. Wanted someplace unique & listed in Denver's 5280 's top 25 best restaurants. This one caught my eye being a farm to table restaurant. Big supporter of green, local & sustainable. The food was artfully presented & delicious. Although it might be a bit overly priced it was worth every bite. As soon as we ordered our drinks we were brought a basket of fresh hot out of the oven focaccia bread ... heavenly! Shared 2 appetizers, mussels & goat cheese - both very good. Our fish, Barramundi & Mahi Mahi was cooked to perfection & Petaluma chicken was simply wonderful. They brought a gorgeous strawberry rhubarb pannacotta with a candle for mom ... best panna cotta I ever had. Very memorable dinner for mom! ❤"

  • "The fresh bread, coupled with the smoked mussels, Dupont Saison Farmhouse Ale, Cabernet Franc wine, and smoked Pedaluma chicken made for an amazing dining experience. I asked a few random questions and the server had the answers them all. We like to take our time and eat a bit on the slower side, and I felt that the service and timing of food were spot on for us. We never wanted for anything, but also weren't bothered by the staff at any point. Get them smoked mussels, they're the best we've ever had!"

  • "This was our second visit to Bittersweet and once again, the staff was utterly amazing. Fun, delightful, intelligent--just makes the great food that much better. Brava to the whole team for seeking out such great people to make dining more than just eating out--it's being entertained. We enjoyed the green mussels (again!) for an appetizer--fabulous!"

  • "Bittersweet excels at expertly-crafted cuisine. I find the prices a bit high, but it's hard to complain when the food is so well prepared."

  • "We very much enjoyed our dinner at Bittersweet. The menu offered a number of unique / creative items to choose from. However, we found the menu also to be rather limited in selections. The menu items that we ordered were excellent, from appetizers to entree's and dessert. Don't miss the made to order Doughssants for dessert - wonderful!"
