Artisanal Cuisine
The bittersweet team has an artisanal approach to hand crafted, playful and artfully created food that is not only grounded in fundamental culinary techniques but our verve for the Avant Garde. We make everything we can in-house using the best possible ingredients. By sourcing from local farms and fisheries, and partnering with those who take our same care and approach to their own harvesting and herding—we offer food that is fresh, seasonal and artisanal.
Artisanal Beverages
Bittersweet’s wine and cordial list have been hand selected to pair with both our cuisine as well as create the same interesting combinations found in our food. We feature and ever changing wine, beer and cocktail lists as well as spirits that represent both local companies and quality craftsmanship.

  • "Really enjoyed the food at Bittersweet. Great service and well priced. Loved the mussels!"

  • "This was our second visit to Bittersweet and once again, the staff was utterly amazing. Fun, delightful, intelligent--just makes the great food that much better. Brava to the whole team for seeking out such great people to make dining more than just eating out--it's being entertained. We enjoyed the green mussels (again!) for an appetizer--fabulous!"

  • "The fresh bread, coupled with the smoked mussels, Dupont Saison Farmhouse Ale, Cabernet Franc wine, and smoked Pedaluma chicken made for an amazing dining experience. I asked a few random questions and the server had the answers them all. We like to take our time and eat a bit on the slower side, and I felt that the service and timing of food were spot on for us. We never wanted for anything, but also weren't bothered by the staff at any point. Get them smoked mussels, they're the best we've ever had!"

  • "This is the place we keep coming back to for something special, for a fresh, original take on contemporary classics. Dinner here is yummy without being pretentious or fussy. After about six visits, everything we've sampled has been excellent. I appreciate the inclusion of fresh seasonal vegetables treated with the love they deserve, and my husband loves the meat dishes--most recently lamb shank and short ribs. We'll be back. Soon."

  • "Bittersweet excels at expertly-crafted cuisine. I find the prices a bit high, but it's hard to complain when the food is so well prepared."

  • "We very much enjoyed our dinner at Bittersweet. The menu offered a number of unique / creative items to choose from. However, we found the menu also to be rather limited in selections. The menu items that we ordered were excellent, from appetizers to entree's and dessert. Don't miss the made to order Doughssants for dessert - wonderful!"

  • "All the food presentation was stunning. The salmon tartar was unforgettable."

  • "I made reservations for my wife's birthday which was a Tuesday. We arrived a little early and there were only 2 tables in the whole restaurant that had people. My wife (who is 8 months pregnant) and I were sat in the very back corner of the restaurant which in and of itself was fine. A lady (who ended up being our server) came by and gave us some water and left. For the next twenty plus minutes my wife and I sat at our table with not one person coming to take a drink order, describe the menu, or even acknowledge our presence above and beyond giving us water. I actually had to go to the front of the restaurant to ask for service. The food was great, but the service really ruined what was supposed to be a romantic and special night."

  • "We loved everything about our meal. The only disappointing thing is that we went specifically for the Moules Frites and they had run out by 7:30. This has happened to us a couple of times at this restaurant."
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "we must have been there on an off night. the food was uneven in terms of entrée serving size (potato entrée incredibly small) and large portions of other entrees on other plates. the waitress was not friendly and minimally present. I was disappointed as previous reviews have been good."
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "The ambiance is tasteful and modern without trying too hard. Lights are dim enough to be romantic but bright enough to have a conversation and read your menu. Everything we ordered was excellent. Interesting and delicious. Service available without being overbearing."
    Dined on 3/19/2014
  • "Bittersweet was so absolutely delicious! A little pricey, but perfect for a special occasion. Great, friendly service too!"

  • "Went for our anniversary and loved every bit. Great food and service.Only down side is that we went at 530 on a Saturday and were the only ones in our section for a while! My fault for the early reservation I guess but we wanted to make a movie!"

  • "this is the first time I have been to bittersweet in almost 2 years. last time we went we had a few too many glasses of wine and although i thought the food was amazing, i needed to make sure. this time did not disappoint. i love their style - they give away very little on the menu, and when you get the food it is much more extravagant and delicious then we could have imagined! the service was very good as well. i will be returning soon!"

  • "Very comfortable, lively setting to enjoy a dad-daughter night out. The selective menu provided interesting options, without overwhelming. We chose two smaller plates to start, a second course main dish to share, and dessert. Each item - both in terms of taste and ingredient quality - was superb, with flavors that were distinguishable (!), recognizable, and delicious. Our server was welcoming and conscientious, without hovering. At our request, she provided recommendations that matched our taste interests and appetites for each of the three courses. The interior is an attractive mix of wood and metal, leaving an impression of cool, crisp features that focus attention on the food. Ideal for our desires, but a bit loud for date night."

  • "I would have given Bittersweet a full 5 stars but for the incredible noise level and cramped tables. We couldn't talk across a table for four until about half of the room had departed. However the food was outstanding - great cocktail: Golden Delicious, lovely fresh green salad that was not on the menu, but they were happy to make for us. We had four different main courses - all beautiful to behold and delicious, and a fun dessert to share. The service was perfect - cheerful, knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Once the noise abated somewhat, it couldn't have been better. Finding a parking spot in the little lot was a bonus! We are looking forward to warmer weather and sitting on the patio."

  • "Bittersweet is a beautiful setting filled with friendly, attentive staff. However the food, the reason why you are there, was nothing impressive. It was good but I don't think I will be going back."

  • "We had a lovely dinner with another couple here last weekend. The service was outstanding - just enough attention, some humor, some heartfelt recommendations, etc. The food was absolutely out of this world. I had the best scallops I've had in a long time. The menu is interesting, if limited, but everything looked good. The ambience was friendly and energetic - maybe a bit loud at times, but it was not a problem...everyone was just having a good time. It felt cozy and elegant at the same time. The plating was gorgeous but not over the top and the tastes were impeccable. We drove over an hour for this dinner and did not regret one thing about that. This is my new favorite restaurant in Denver."

  • "Spur of the moment Friday night find on Open Table - the reviews were good and it said "fit for foodies" so we decided to try it. We loved the atmosphere - rustic but urban and had one of the best dinners we've had in a long time. Ordered the gnocchi, then the lamb shank and scallops, lovely small scoop of ice cream and gelato for dessert. Great service. Happy to find this lovely spot - will be back soon!"

  • "Took my husband for his 38th bday and we had never been before. We were sat immediately upon arrival for our 8:15 reservation. Our waitress was really great. The menu had lots we were excited to try. We started with goat cheese appetizer that was delicious! Then we ordered a bottle of wine that went great with his lamb and my scallops. The dessert was by far the most unique dessert we had ever had...it was served in a jar with a lid! Delicious. We are excited to go back in the spring and sit in their garden area and really enjoyed our dining experience there!"

  • "Great food. We had to wait for our table despite reservations which could have been handled better as there is no place to stand and wait"

  • "We eat at Bittersweet a lot and are rarely disappointed. Our recent meal might have been the best we have had there. I had a rabbit sausage appetizer while my wife had the gnocci appetizer. Both were excellent. For our entrees, my wife had the Petaluma smoked chicken and I had the port confit. Again, both were excellent. It took a little longer than usual for our orders to be taken, although we were a bit indecisive. It was also more noisy than usual but I think this was because someone at the next table was loud with a voice like fingernails on a blackboard. Bittersweet is a great restaurant. We always look forward to going back."

  • "I very much enjoyed the meal. We had the muscles with chorizo sausage and the gnocci appetizers. I had the mahi mahi and personally really enjoyed my meal. Others had the scallops and lamb with mixd reveiws. The restaurant was completely full when we arrived for our 8:00 reservations, but were greeted immediately and shown to our table without delay. The atomsphere was loud with lots of conversations, but not so loud you couldn'd have your own and the tables are intimately close, but not so close that they were intrusive."

  • "nice and small, convenient location. food was excellent if you like it very rich. we had the scallops and chicken preceeded by goat goat cheese and completed with apple crumb cake. limited parking but easy to walk"
    Dined on 2/22/2014
  • "Truly outstanding food however a pretty limited menu. The parking situation is ridiculous. We had to park 4 blocks away and walk to the restaurant as it started to snow. How can an upscale restaurant offer no valet service when they only have 6 parking spaces and the entire neighborhood requires resident stickers to park on the street? No thank you!"

  • "Mm mm good. Bittersweet is hard to get into (I think they limit the table they make available through OenTable), but well worth the wait. I had the lamb shank and it was great. Small selection on the menu because they put the effort into each choice."

  • "We had such a great time at Bittersweet this last Friday. Food was outstanding. Our waitress was very helpful with the wine list and food options. She was charming and used the right amount interaction with the four of us, allowing our conversations to flow, and giving us a wonderful experience. Sorry, but we forgot her name! We had a 6:15 reservation under the name of Alvarez. And the food......! What a treat! Can't wait to come back! Thank you again! Ernest Alvarez"

  • "First visit to Bittersweet was marvelous. My girlfriend and I were anticipating a grand dining adventure and had open minds, so the benchmark was high. Everything we ordered----from the rabbit sausage appetizer to the scallops and lamb shank entrees to the two absolutely outstanding desserts were terrific. Nothing could have been done to make this an even more memorable evening. And one additional comment---the service was impeccable. Not intrusive or bothersome in the least---but we were attended to with consistency and courtesy and warmth from our server and others who attended to our needs. Bittersweet is a keeper!"

  • "Unusual though not weird or cutesy food offerings. including desserts--one of which is particularly imaginative; likewise unusual wine selections that change frequently. All in our group of six were quite pleased. (Two had been herebefore and their recommendations were well given.)"

  • "Bittersweet has an interesting and creative menu, and beautiful presentation of very good food. The wait staff was helpful and did a very nice job taking me through the Gluten-Free options (I am a celiac, so need to be careful about the preparation on even dishes that seem obviously gluten-free). This is a great little neighborhood restaurant for a nice occasion."

  • "We had a wonderful experience. The food was amazing and the service was fantastic. The middle tables were a little closer than I would have liked but the entire experience certainly made up for it. I would definitely go back and recommend to others."

  • "food wise, One of the best dining experiences I have had in Colorado. However, I took my girlfriend there for valentines day. I made a reservation several weeks in advance. Two days before valentines, I received a call from the restaurant telling me they were switching to a price fixed menu. This was something that should have been announced when making the reservation,,or much earlier in the process. Dinner and drinks ran $150 per person (with tax). I feel like it was in very poor taste to inform someone two days before a holiday, when options are limited, to make this announcement. It put a damper on the experience."

  • "We dined on Valentine's Day when they offered a 5 course prefixe menu. Food was incredible. We knew it would take longer given the multiple courses, but it took nearly 4 hours from start to finish. There was noticeable confusion about what table was receiving what, and tables that were seated around the same time as us finished much much earlier. We were determined not to let this spoil the evening given that the food was worth the wait, but we were both exhausted by the time we paid and left!"

  • "If I cannot recreate a meal I have in a restaurant I give it a 5 star rating. I could not recreate the Pork Confit. It was perfectly prepared. The equally good appetizer was good gnocchi with tender, smoky Tuscan kale and was outstanding. Restaurant is small so noise level is tolerable even for noise sensitive me."

  • "My husband and I chose this place for our anniversary. The menu online looked delicious and there were several things we both wanted to try. However when we sat down and looked over the menu it was completely different than it was online. Some things were a little too obscure for me, but what I ended up deciding on was delicious and the service was excellent. Our waitress was very accommodating and quick. Dessert and cocktail list was great! My only complaint is that they update their online menu more often, or at least make a note that it changes often."

  • "Gorgeous space. Super tight wine list with both new & old world choices. The porter & prosciutto bread set a stellar tone for the entire meal. We had the smoked mussels with chorizo & the gnocchi with poached egg for starters. I can't stop thinking about these dishes. The tout-of-this world mouth-watering bites were the tiny duck liver ravs that came with the Smoked Petaluma chicken. Best dining experience I have had in Colorado."
