  • "Overall I think the restaurant has a good menu, nice wine selection but the beer selection needs to be improved. Unfortunately I was with a beer connoisseur and he was disappointed they did not have at least an IPA and a lager. Other than this the food was good. The waitress was a little over ran. She didn't offer me ground pepper for my salad until I was almost half finished. When the salad is placed on the table the cracked pepper should be in hand and offered. I will definitely come back."

  • "So crowded. 4 other groups waiting. Didn't seem to matter we had a res. Stood over 20 min in doorway. Others came after us & seated immediately. Service very slow. Champagne ordered by glass wasn't what we ordered unless really bad bottle but suspect made or just poured whatever they could grab. Cassoulet seemed like it was just thrown together & not cooked thoroughly. Most tables had cloth napkins but we & others who came later given thin paper napkins. Staff were nice but too busy to come back. "

When a couple asks to sit at their favorite table (a table for 4) and are refused because they are told it's for three or more, only to see another couple seated there five minutes later, it doesn't make for happy feelings! It was a slow week night, 4 other people in the place and only 6 or 8 more came in in the next 2 hours. Plenty of tables for 4 to 6. We saw another couple get up and leave because they wanted to move out of the sun and were refused a change of table. What gives? Be a little more flexible and welcoming, Okay?"

  • "We've eaten here a few times and I had great steak and frites in the past. This time the steak was tough and half of it was gristle. The frites were great as usual. My wife mussels were good. The salads were very good. The wine list needs to be up dated. The wine we ordered from the wine list has'nt been available for months. The service was exellant. We'll try it again but I will order something different next time."

  • "This took up back to a little bistro we went to in Paris. The menu has a little bit of everything and everything tasted great. Don't miss the french onion soup, the best I've had. The shrimp and scampi risotto was so yummy. The desserts were fine, but nothing to rave about. The service was good and helpful. The red wine by the glass wasn't the greatest. The syrah was ok- but nothing special, the bordeaux was flat and tasteless. I left my wallet and didn't realize it until the next day. When I called they knew what I was talking about. I got in back with a smile and everything in it. That made this the best place ever for me. When you dine you get that nice relaxing feeling and can sit back and enjoy the good food."

  • "Food was expensive for what it was. Tables were too small, we were 4 tall adults on a tiny table with not enough room to set all the plates and glasses. We asked for a larger table (one was available just behind) and it was denied. This table was really meant for 2 people. Waitress insisted there were 8 oysters and not 6 and then she served only 6, did not bother her. Given the situation and overpriced oysters they should have added 2. At the end they kept the door open, it was freezing and we asked to close the door. Denied... Supposedly they were taking the tables from outside inside... Not really my problem, they were closing at 10 and it was only 9:20... They should have waited..."

The Cotes de Rhone was a lovely pairing with the cassoulet. The ambiance was lively. Not for the hard-of-hearing. I would go back and sample more of the menu."

Mussels were a nice selection, the cassoulet was average, and the quality of the steak in the Steak Frites was sub par. I am a fan of cassoulet, and there were certain things that Vida did well in theirs. But overall the flavors were not as rich as should be."

  • "We returned to Bistro Vida after a long absence wondering why we had not been back. The meal - gnocchi with brussel sprouts and moules frites, ceasar salad and risotto were very good and served warm. But the tarte Tatin tasted like yesterday's apple danish. And service was off - before we had swallowed the last bite of our starters the plates were off the table and our main course appeared. As we took our last bite of our main s=course the dishes were taken away and the dessert menus were on the table. And the bill came before we were done with desserts and none asked whether we wanted coffee or an after dinner drink. With better service, we may come back."

  • "We had a group of 10 including 7 Stanford students and 2 parents here for Parents' Weekend. It was the second year in a row we chose Bistro Vida because it has something for everyone. The menu is extensive and the specials add even more choices, and everyone's food was delicious. We had generous salads, delicious soups, wonderful main dishes and decadent desserts. The ambiance is like an energetic French bistro with white subway tile walls, black chalkboards, and bustling waitstaff. There are big and small tables all in one main room. Very fun dinner and I will definitely be back again next year!"

  • "The tables were cramped together. Very loud. Couldn’t understand or hear my party of four because of the noise. The food was just OK. I ordered a $24 plate off the menu. I got three tiny, tiny, thin lamb chops and a boat load of fries. The tiny lamb chops were mostly fat and bone. It was awful! Essentially, I paid $24 for fries and lard. I’ll never go there again. I won’t recommend it either."

  • "Ceviche appetizer was nothing special, plate of cheese had three small pieces. Beef sauce was burned, trout was greasy, bouillabaisse was just ok, chicken was acceptable. None of the dishes had anything special about them. The worst part was dessert. Profiteroles were plain ice cream with what looked like chocolate sauce out of the bottle, creapes were swimming in burned sugar sauce, which was boiling hot and burned everyone's mouth. There were hardly any strawberries in it. The waitress forgot to put a candle on the ice cream for the birthday person at the table, even thought she was asked, the manager barely apologized for the creapes and just took $8 off the bill for their cost. Terrible experience overall!"

The noise level is worse than at a Mc Donalds. They started clearing out tables and moving furniture/wrapping up for the day while we were still dining and well before the closing time. The small portions/non-tasty food did not justify the price!!!"

  • "Their Salade Nicoise is one of the best I've ever had, with lovely seared tuna. They split it for my friend and me and gave us generous portions -- I'm sure more than half of the whole order. We each had onion soup that was top notch -- like being in Paris. By the way at dinner, they have a wonderful Tarte Tatin, a dessert that is hard to find in US. A very pleasant and delicious lunch."

  • "We loved everything. The atmosphere was quaint, noise level was perfect, the restaurant was warm and inviting. The food was FANTASTIC. Service was wonderful. Everyone in our party said it was well worth the money, we actually expected the bill to be 30-40% more than it was. We will be back."

  • "We had an early reservation so restaurant was half full. Service was OK however all help seemed to be pushing to have your meal experience be a fast one. Even trying to go casual speed we were in and out in an hour. Food was unexceptional. Cesar Salad was served with the hard core of the lettuce and the dressing was pretty much mayo with no taste of any other ingredients. Main courses we had were coq au vin, which was just OK and Les Coquilles St Jacques, which had a nice tasting sauce. My issue with that is for a dinner serving it had one scallop and 3 shrimp over way to much risotto that had four 1/2" pieces of asparagus."
