Diner Reviews
  • "Waiter heard me tell my daughter happy birthday and made sure there was a candle in her dessert without me asking. "

  • "Our party of six was seated promptly (we had a reservation). Drink orders taken, but took a while for food order (seemed to have only one waitstaff). But the food was delicious. Mussels were great, needed more bread for all of the broth. We would come again."

  • "We went to Bistrot Margot prior to a show at Zanie's. The restaurant was in a perfect location and came as a recommendation of Zanie's. The meal was good, the service was great. For starters we had the French onion soup and it was awesome. For dinner, we had the special, which was a trio of fish and the lamb chops. The fish trio was awesome, the lamb chops were really good. We finished with creme brulee and it too was good. There was nothing to complain about, except the guy sitting next to us who talked too loud."

  • "The food was really, really amazing. A great variety to help delight the pallet and fill the stomach."

  • "Nice people. My food was too salty both soup and second coarse. Cozy place."

  • "Loved the Brunch menu. We started with shared appetizers. The mussels were delicious. We all loved the sweet onion soup generous with cheese. Two of us ordered the eggs Benedict. One of us had the salmon. I had the duck with Portobella mushroom, spinach and an orange Hollandaise. Best Ouef Benedicts I ever tried. Our other diner had a hamburger with Brie Cheese and pomme frites. Everyone raved about the fabulous food. We are anxious to return. Later after a Second City Matinee we returned for dessert. The chocolate espresso dense bar with framboise and creme anglaise was so rich and wonderful. The profiteroles were excellent."

  • "Four diners for brunch, ordering four different meals, all four of us were very pleased. Soup, salad, fish, burgers, all very, very good."

  • "located in "Old Town" - one mile from Miracle Mile (Michigan Ave) -- always treated great; food great ,etc"

  • "Salads were excellent and very large. Mussels were quite delicious. Duck was totally disappointing...very fatty and very little meat. Haricot verts were very good, but the polenta? was gooey and too many mushrooms. Dessert was just ok"

  • "This was a great bistro experience with classic, French comfort food. My friends all rated their meals between 7-10 on a 1-10 scale. The service could be a little more attentive, but then it wouldn't be an authentic French restaurant experience if the waiter was really attentive. Cheese plate was really yummy. Escargot was good (maybe a little salt?) Lamb chops were excellent! Ratatouille was wonderful. Pork chop special got rave reviews. Fun neighborhood location as well. I'd love to come back and wish you had a place in my hometown!"

  • "I appreciate that our table was actually ready at the time of our reservation and that they sat our party even though we weren't complete. The restaurant was loud and small but we didn't feel crammed in our seats. Nice not to feel like you have to make the neighbors move in order to get up for the restroom. Would probably go back to Kiki's Bistro of Mon Ami Gabi before Bistrot Margot as the other places have better ambience imo but overall, this is a fine restaurant. I had the poisson blanc amandine which I found good but unremarkable. My friends who ordered meat (filet de porc roti, steak frites and filet mignon du boeuf grille w/frites) said the meat was very good but the frites were a bit greasy."

  • "We had the salmon and the beef filet. Both were wonderful!"

  • "Bistrot Margot is our favorite place in Chicago for brunch or lunch. The menu isn't extensive, but the choices are all wonderful. The service has been magnifique! every time we've gone. You can't make a bad choice there. And the desserts are wonderful, too. Brunch on Saturday tends to be much less busy, and much less noisy, than brunch on Sunday."

  • "Have been wanting to go here for years - many people I know have been here and enjoyed it. It wasn't what I expected - which would have been ok - but we were having dinner with friends. Restaurant was horribly noisy - we wound up shouting to each other over the entire dinner. Food was fair - I had the duck and was asked if I wanted it crispy which I did. It came out crispy - but in a soup bowl filled with broth. Yuck. Side dishes were bland and uninteresting. Everyone else had a different entrée which was ok, but not great. Desserts were good but portions were small for the price. Maybe a visit during the week would have been a better idea - Saturday night was definitely not the best dining experience."

  • "This has been a local favorite but we haven't visited for awhile. French onion soup was always a reason to go. Now so over-peppered, it was unpleasant. (Eating that all over recent trip to France, I can vouch for that condiment NOT being even faintly resonant!) I must thank the chef for getting some specific food requests right -- however the kitchen modified another favorite dish to do it, without checking with us first. All in all, disappointing. Note: Prices are reasonable."

  • "Bistrot Margot has been in the same location serving great food for over 25 years. I was last there about 25 years ago and thought it was lovely then. it still is. The pork cutlets were very savory. The Clafoutis was delicious. Service was great."

  • "Reasonable wine list with lots of interesting, reasonable choices. I went with the 2012 Chateau de Teirquevedel rose. They also offer a sparkling rose and an Austrian Zweigelt. Too tough to choose! The delicious benedict trio is a lot of food and can be definitely split between 2-3 people. Was disappointed the Crepes Americaine aren't crepes at all but are pancakes. Between 2-3 on a February Saturday afternoon there were plenty of tables available. Dining room is set up so that it's good for friends, families or a romantic date."

  • "This was a really lovely evening for us. We arrived a little early and were seated immediately. I had a delicious Cosmopolitan martini to start with, and then we went on to order Escargot,Lemon Sole and Filet Mignon. All were cooked to perfection. We ended our meal with some wonderful Lemon Chocolate creation. All in all, 5 stars!"

  • "The food was decent but we felt it didn't live up to it's reviews. I had the lamb and my fiance had the filet mignon. Both dishes came out a little on the cold side and were lacking a bit in flavor. The decor is very nice and the service was good. We will give Bistrot Margot a second chance as it's in a very convenient location for us."

  • "Bistro Margot was the venue of our first date 12 years ago. It was just as nice now as then. Food and service was fine. Wine list was short but of sufficient range. Cocktails were creative and delicious. Everything was perfec. Bistro Margot doesn't pretend to be "special" but it is very good for what it sets out to be--solid French bistro experiencence"

  • "My sister and I decided to try this place for a late lunch/early dinner on a weekend. I'm glad we went early because the place was packed by the time we left. The risotto special was absolutely amazing and the mussels and sauce were delicious too. Our waitress was really nice and even gave me a wine sample before ordering a glass since I was wavering between two."

  • "Decided to try this spot for lunch during restuarant week. We were seated early for a 1pm reservation. Service was attentive. Food was freshly made and delicious. French onion soup, brie tarte, quiche and chocalte mousse. Only complaint was that the restaurant was cold. It was a bitter day outside so I didn't hold it against them. I would try this place again."

  • "The host was friendly and seemed to be enjoying herself with guests, our server was patient and attentive and very accommodating. Nothing I had really wowed me, but that wouldn't keep me from coming back. My friend and I had a great time."

  • "Food was great server was very friendly but had to wait for water and never did get coffee refil"

  • "I've requested hot water upon arriving at the restaurant. Then when I received the check, I noticed that I was charged for this request, and was outraged the server did not even mention this charge when I ordered. Judging from the fact this is a standard restaurant that serves coffee/tea where hot water is needed, they must have a hot water machine, and all the server had to do was to pour the hot water? RIDICULOUS! It's either the server consciously made the extra effort to charge me without even telling me, or it could the restaurant being greedy trying to profit from the unreasonable weather condition; but either way, should have communicated to me if it's not clearly stated on the menu that you charge for HOT TAB WATER."

  • "Mary Jane and I went there for our 40th wedding anniversary. Did not tell anyone. The Restaurant Week menu was perfect. We stopped in the bar for a nightcap and Riley did a great job. Not to forget Mikie was a great server."

  • "Enjoyed a nice family dinner at Bistrot Margot during Chicago's restaurant week. It was a first time dining experience for all of us and we all loved it! Each of us ordered something different and not one dish was disappointing! We will definitely be coming back for seconds."

  • "I havent been to this restaurant in awhile and decided to give it another chance. Food was so-so. I can always indicate how good a place is going to be based on their bread basket. It was something you could buy from the store and was kind of stale. French onion soup was very good. Beef bourignon was ok....not a lot of meat. Creme Brule was very good."

  • "I had a wonderful dining experience at Bistro Margot. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. While the atmosphere was energetic, I still enjoyed the dining experience completely. I plan to dine here again."
