Bistrot MargotGreat service and foodWe went to Bistrot Margot with a group for a special occasion. I had to adjust the number in are party at arrival. They made great last minute adjustments, which was very appreciated. The food was fabulous and everyone loved their meal!6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was great! Always forgetIt was great! Always forget how lovely this restaurant is!!6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMNice Find on Busy Wells StreetExcellent food and service. We sat upstairs (would like to get a seat in the room closer to Wells next time...looks beautiful....but it was jammed due to art festival so we coulndn't complain). Our waitress did a great job of getting us served prior to our going to Second City. We went with another couple. One of them was of French descent and she said it was terrific. I don't eat mussels but they couldn't say enough about them. Their steak frites dish was excellent as was their lyonaise salad. Nice place. Good for dates and then you can venture into Lincoln Park afterwards.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our first trip toThis was our first trip to Bistrot Margot. The food was great and our waiter was very attentive.
However, the hostess staff left a little to be desired. Due to the street fair we had a hard time finding parking. We called to ask for recommendations and they were unable to help. Once we arrived we were told that since we were more than 15 minutes late that our reservation had been cancelled. Thankfully since we had called we were able to keep our reservation, but it was a frustrating way to begin our meal.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMloved the placeThere was a festival on the street. We had no issues getting to the restaurant. Food was amazing. Prices where fair. The wine bottle we had was really good being one of our favorites we didnt expect that there at all. The lamb chops where cooked just like I asked. All the other plates at our tables we quite tasty we had to share :) the creme burlee was just right, bigger than I expected.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious food at a great price! We greatly enjoyed our dinner at Bistrot Margot from beginning to end. Service was impeccable and the food was outstanding. The soft-shell crab salad was a perfect starter. My husband had the walleye pike and I had the whitefish. Both dishes were fantastic. The pace of the meal was just right and the cool open air to the restaurant was delightful.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was okay, service was slowWe had a good time. It's not the quality of La Sardine (in my opinion), but it's fine for the area. I thought the roasted chicken was just okay, but everyone else liked their food. Service was a little slow 9and we like a relaxed dinner) and she seemed a little dismissive that we didn't want dessert. But we'd probably go back if we were back on the area. The room is very nice.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food great staffBistrot Margot always has great French food, without over charging. A friend came into town at the last min. we went there, 3 hours later left , having a great time. One reason I love this place, you can bring your own wine, and the corkage fee is only $15.00. I brought in a 20 yr old bottle of wine, the head bar tender came over to make sure the bottle was open correctly, the care they give there is great.6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic Food at Bistrot MargotI only consume vegetables and fish. BM had ample selections on the menu to please. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and courteous. The timing of each dish was right on. We had a table at the window and it was perfect. i would definitely go back to MB.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a find!Bistro Margot is a cute little French restaurant in Old Town, Chicago area. The food is fantastic and the service very accomodating. I would recommend this as a stop the next time you're in Chicago5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMAmbianceThis place is very quaint. It looks like you're in a big house. The staff is very nice and helpful. The only bad thing is around 7:30-8pm it gets really loud in there and you have to yell to talk.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMAtmosphereMy wife and enjoyed our scrumptious meal, but I just have to say that I really enjoy the atmosphere at Margot's. It so reminds me Paris.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMComfortable sophisticationLove Bistrot Margot! Food is always excellent. Service is friendly but not in your face and very attentive to every detail. It's a place that I feel very comfortable bringing friends for a night out or the wife for a casual romantic evening. I guess the word I would use to sum it up is "comfortable".5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMCharming but too little CoqClearly, a great neighborhood venue with attentive service. A friend complained that there was too much bacon and not enough Coq in the au Vin.5/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth every penny and then someThe food was fantastic! Very accessible even if you don't know anything about French cuisine. Also everything was very affordable. Our group of five came in at $260 which included salad, entree, dessert, drinks, and tip. The entire group left full and happy. Also the waitress asked if we were going to the theater and made sure that we got out in plenty of time for our show.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMlove their foodMust have mussels for appetizer...
Awesome entree menu
Amazing desserts! Profiteroles! !!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMI have been anxiously waitingI have been anxiously waiting to try Bistro Margot for a while now and they did not disappoint. I went for Mother's Day and ordered their prix fixe menu, which was a great deal for the food that we got. Portions were just right, so that we were all full, but not overstuffed. Service was attentive, yet unobtrusive. The hostess made sure to seat us somewhere out of the way, so that we weren't bothered by the brunch rush. Overall, a great experience and I would highly recommend.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat neighborhood restaurantI wanted a great place to eat with my mom for mither's day, and Bistrot Margot was great! Although our server was a bit gruff, the food was delicious!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMI'll return for moreWe very much enjoyed our dining experience. All three of us ordered the same entre- filet mignon, and none of us were disappointed. It was perfectly grilled to a medium. I would ask that the potatoes have less rosemary next time, but the other two in my party thought they were just right. And I'm sure there will be a next time and I hope its when its a little warmer so we can dine outside.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat bistro in old townIt has been ages since going to Bistrot Margot. We went Friday night prior to a show at Second City (only 2 blocks away). The atmosphere is charming. Though the noise was a bit high, it was not overwhelming. The tables are spaced just far enough apart to allow a sense of intimacy while dining. The cocktails were done perfectly, not too sweet. The waiter helped guide us to a great wine selection. I appreciate that we were not rushed through dinner.
The waiter, Hal, was knowledgeable about the menu. He was very engaging, without constantly being underfoot. He never interrupted us, but he was always available when we needed something.
The food was delicious. All the dishes we had were classic preparations of classic French dishes.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMAssume DiningBistrot Margot is a gem in the heart of Old Town. The food was suberb, the ambiance was wonderful, and the wine was excellent. I highly reccomend this place for pre-show dinner or special occassion.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMVery pleasant food, ambianceVery pleasant food, ambiance and service. Nice neighborhood option. We were there at 6 and it was not too noisy but when we left at 8, it was filled and verry noisy.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were a party of five.We were a party of five. Everyone liked the authentic bistro food. Service was good. We were seated upstairs which is not as crowded and the noise level allows conversation. A great place for a group of friends to be seated. Everyone was thrilled with the value, the bill was so reasonable compared with other restaurants of comparable quality. I had not been at Bistrot Margot in several years and it is good to see that a longtime neighborhood restaurant has maintained its' standards.
A heads up if you are looking for somewhere to celebrate Easter etc. This restaurant has a fixed price menu on many holidays. These are always reasonably priced, unlike most places that quadruple their prices.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent, friendly service!Nice bistro with good food and great service. The guest I was dining with was 20 minutes late so I sat at my table and had coffee, the staff was so nice and accommodating. I had the quiche of the day and it was wonderful. The parking is a bit of a challenge but they do have valet on offer. I would like to return on a nice warm day and sit outside at one of the bistro tables! I will return.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMNice girls lunchOur first time at Bistro Margot was a good one. The prices are a bit high. A wine that sells for $11 at Binny's is $39 at Margot. The Brie appetizer was disappointingly short on Brie! The half-sandwich that I expected to be warm, was cold. The bread was toasted but the cheese was cold? The mussels were wonderful and the soup was good. It was a great spot for 4 girlfriends to meet and drink two bottles of overpriced, cheap (but really good!) Chardonnay from Burgundy. We had a great time and our waiter was really pleasant. Perhaps I'll return for the mussels and frites and try the pate'....when it's warm enough to dine al fresco.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMTraditional French bistrotTraditional French bistrot foof, well prepared and at a reasonable cost. We enjoyed Sunday brunch with friendly staff. Inside the atmosphere will remind you of France, but, when it warms up a bit, there are sidewalk tables for people watching in a lively neighborhood.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious!Food was delicious beginning with mussels appetizer through the peppercorn strip. Next time don't forget the steak knife though.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent Food and ambienceBistrot Margo is always a 5 star experience and they don't make you feel second class if you use a discount program or coupon.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWent for lunch and had theWent for lunch and had the lunch "combo" meal; soup, 1/2 sandwich and mini dessert. Good value, good food, good lunch spot. Will give it a try for dinner some time as well.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMA Neighborhood FavoriteIt's like your favorite vintage Prada bag...it is always stylish, and perfect. I will never eat risotto anywhere else. It is divine. Also, love their daily plates, so very French. Great wine too.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMBistrot Margot is one of myBistrot Margot is one of my favorite places that never fails to deliver great food and great service.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMCramped seating killed theCramped seating killed the ambiance but the food taste made up for it.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious, as always. Portion-sizeDelicious, as always. Portion-size generous. Special Sea Bass done to perfection.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our second visitThis was our second visit to Bistrot Margot, and the first for dinner. Our first visit to the restaurant was in the fall for lunch (we are from out of town). A good friend, who used to live in Chicago, visited the bistro often and highly recommended we try it. We brought friends with us this time, and they loved the experience, too - food, location, ambience. I think it may be a new favorite that we will make a must-visit when we are in Chicago and hopefully can enjoy the outdoor patio the next time.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMReturn to Bistrot MargotI always get the mussels when I come here, so once again, they were very good. The portion is offered as an appetizer, but it is a large amount of mussels, and will easily serve as an entree, or to share as an appetizer for two. The escargot were good (as always). I also enjoyed the onion soup, though it wasn't as delightful as I remembered - seemed overcooked. My companion's veal was pretty good, and the gnocchi were outstanding. We ordered bread pudding and creme brulee for desserts, both of which were delicious. The scene was very vibrant, as it was a Friday night, and people were dressed nicely. I'll always go back there... next time, for prix fixe. Parking may be hard to find on weekend evenings, but they have 12$ valet.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMProbably our best adventureProbably our best adventure in Old Town dining to date. More than the food selections--which were very nice--we appreciated the wait staff. Our server, Mikey (sp?)was spot-on wonderful and the water server kept our glasses full without a glance in his direction.
This was an Easter Sunday dinner and I expected mayhem. Instead, we had a lovely family gathering with fine food, fine beverage, and fine conversation (hard to do in most restaurants most of the time).
The tomato bisque was really good, and our entrees were fine. I will go back with my gal pals and hope to sit outside--spring will come eventually, I hope.
~~Suburban Lover of our Fair City3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went for Easter brunch. We went for Easter brunch. Their 3-course prix fixe menu at $26.95 was a great bargain compared to other restaurants in the area, and the food was excellent, with generous portions. Tables were a little close together for my taste; I heard as much of the conversation at the next table as I did of my own. Service was prompt and friendly without being intrusive.
Highly recommend the Tarte aux Brie -- an interesting blend of sweet and savory flavors.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful EasterWe had a wonderful Easter Brunch. The smoked salmon appetizer was outstanding.
I had the lamb, delicious, and my Husband ordered the ham which had a mustard based sauce
that was amazing, along with a carrot compote that we both loved.
Thank you to Leah and her staff for making a lovely day out for us.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMEaster Sunday brunch was aEaster Sunday brunch was a bad time to try to eat here. We had to wait 30 minutes for our table. The hostesses were overwhelmed by the number of people coming in at brunch time. We were told the delay was that our table was cleared but the people were lingering and not leaving. Not acceptable. When we were finally shown our table, it hadn't been cleaned and reset, so we had to wait while the staff did this. Altogether, we had reservations at 1:30 and didn't even get to our table until after 2:00. The food is wonderful, but the lesson is not to go during very busy times.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMVeal dish was really delicious.Veal dish was really delicious. Brie appetizer outstanding. Mushroom polenta...still thinking of it. Waiter ,Michael, took care of us just the way I like. Wine list, tres bien and not too $$$. We love France and were not disappointed.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMIs there anything more beautifulIs there anything more beautiful than the sound of people enjoying great food and drinks in a restaurant with white table clothes and great service? Bistrot Margot has something truly French about it--not a matter of accent, but the food comes on time, well prepard, and nicely served.3/27/2013 12:00:00 AMIt was my first time thereIt was my first time there however it was,a very nice low key atmosphere with good food. Quality, presentation, portions, flavor - tres bien!3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMService needs improvementSlow inattentive service, especially if the waiter disappears and barely speaks English!
Good food, especially the tilapia
Expresso dark chocolate raspberry terrine is very good.
Parking is difficult, at best3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were very happy to be seatedWe were very happy to be seated upstairs which was much quieter than below. The service was very efficient. We enjoyed the food and the wine. Because the waiter never asked if we wanted dessert, just left a menu, we ended up ordering something which we rarely ever do!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Swai, which was the fishThe Swai, which was the fish special for that evening, was fantastic. I wasn't expecting the fish to be this great at a non-seafood restaurant!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was not the first timeThis was not the first time we've dined at Bistrot Margot, and it will not be the last! I love this Old Town favorite for their food, atmosphere and service. The duck was superbly prepared and magnificently paired with a mushroom polenta and haricots verts that were perfect in their simplicity and flavor. Were I in possession of immeasurable wealth, I would live in Chicago and dine at this restaurant daily!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMC'est BonneGreat service, well priced cuisine and the coldest glass of Kronenberg (beer) you'll find in the city of Chicago.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMalways a must stop for usalways a must stop for us in Chicago - location; food; service; value; great owner - always great!3/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
