Diner Reviews
  • "Came here on a tip from someone who lives in old town and it was great! The food, service and ambiance was perfect on a beautiful summer afternoon. Great for a chick lunch or date. Portions were large and the lunch special was very reasonable. Check their menu on the web. Just a short walk to the Chicago History Museum where we ended our day out."

  • "My wife and I frequent this restaurant because bot the food and service are consistently very good. We both had fis. I especially enjoy the trout special, a very flavorful presentation of the fish. Prices are reasonable, always great when the quality of the food and service is consistent. We have also been for holiday brunch, which is also quite enjoyable with interesting menu selections. We highly recommend Birstrot Margot, for both a night out and a special occasion."

  • "We just love this place have been going for many years and are never disappointed. friendly polite employees that there to help not intrude. The food is very good, fresh and healthy like the French intend. Bloody Mary's are a must on each visit and maybe a glass of wine with the meal. Hurry and make a reservation you will not regret the visit."

  • "I enjoyed the meal and my friends company immensely. The staff was friendly, but they rushed us through our meal. Not good. I chose scenic view, but really none of them apply."

  • "All four of us had the grouper. The grouper was delicious and perfectly done. The vegetables on which the grouper was placed was worth the whole meal. I've never been more enthusiastic about vegetables as this. I would definitely order this dish again. The roast pear salad and the special salad with duck also received rave reviews from our group. My friend had escargot and said that it was perfect. We have been here before and have always enjoyed it. It was a beautiful day when we were there and we did not valet park because we went to Second City before. It is a short walk from Second City. Definitely consider the valet parking in the future."

  • "It's a great French bistro, the dishes reminded me very much of those I ate while living in France for 7 months. This place would be casual in France but here it's on the fancy side, you can walk in with jeans or a suit and not be out of place. Friendly, relaxed with great food. There is always a good quality to the ingredients, you can tell the chef takes pride in his work- it is everything a French bistrot should be with a clasic menu."

  • "It was a great dinner and wine. Thanks to our server. We had risotto, mussels, snails and the lamb chops. Amazing with the bottle of wine. Great dinner before Second City... perfect night! DM"

  • "Love this place! Haven't been in awhile but revisited for a trip down memory lane. We loved coming here for pate, mussels and a glass of wine in the past. This time we dined in order to try everything! We all had the 3 course prix fixe Wednesday special, and it was delicious! Our water, Omar, was exceptionally helpful and pleasant. He guided us through our courses with helpful suggestions."

  • "According to my beau who has actually visited France several times, the menu was true to France. The food was very good and the server was nice, though he seemed to be stretched slightly thin. The only thing I did not like was the fact that people had their dogs eating on the patio. But that has more to do with rude people that think its okay to bring their dogs to restaurants, than the restaurant themselves. Also, without asking the server took $25 off of our tab either due to his being little busy while serving us, or the fact that we kept a calm demeanor even though it started to downpour suddenly on the patio. I will eat here again"

  • "We enjoy this place for brunch. Food is very good. Staff is attentive and polite. Great atmosphere and they pay attention to the details. We had our granddaughter with us at 7 months old. they were very helpful with her. We just enjoy the place very much."

  • "Tough choice, both Mon Ami and Bistro Margot were about the same distance away, went with Margot and very pleased. Delicious French bread and butter, a very fair priced menu and friendly but overwhelmed service. Limited wine list, no sommelier on duty. Sit upstairs, the noise levels are deafening downstairs and there is a very nice bar upstairs too. Our server was a little too apologetic for perceived wait times on his part. Totally unnecessary, enjoyed the experience."

  • "We went on a sunday evening for dinner. Service was great, good wine choices and an always tasty food choice. My daughter had the lamb chops which were very good and we all had french onion soup which is not to be missed."

  • "The food is really good and is very reasonably priced. I definitely recommend for the food. The place has a nice ambiance as well although for the decor I would expect they'd have a little nicer silverware/napkins/salt and pepper shakers/etc., the little details. That stuff wouldn't stop me from going back because in the end, I don't realllyyy care, but it would make the experience nicer and me more likely to give it additional stars. The service is definitely lacking though and both times I've went. Slow, not very attentive, just eh."

  • "Took my sister here for a birthday dinner and arrived about 20 minutes early for our reservation, expecting to just wait by the bar and have a drink. We could barely get the bartenders attention to let us look at a menu and then even once that happened it took another 15 minutes to place an order... and by then we were getting seated before we even had the drinks. It was one of those where you're staring at the bartender trying to make eye contact and it seems like he looks and goes anywhere besides where you are.... the bar area seats about 6 people and we were standing right there... it shouldn't have been that difficult. "

  • "A great restaurant for celebrations, events and general dinner. The dining was great, try the new york strip. This was a special event for a graduation (medical school) and the staff was great. If only we lived in Chicago, we would be there every week. It is a favorite spot in Chicago. "

  • "None of the staff made us feel like they were glad we were there. Food was inconsistent. The carrots were so drenched in butter that they were inedible. The biggest issue was the noise level. It was so noisy that I could barely hear my dining partner speak and had to ask the server to repeat herself numerous times. During the meal, I actually got up and looked into the other dining area to see if it was quieter but it was just as noisy. Not enjoyable at all."

  • "We really enjoyed the french onion soup, the whitefish, and the mussels. Their orange mule was also very good twist on a moscow mule. Teh service was a little slow, but it sped right up when we communicated our theater plans to the wait staff. We might go back, but there are so many other restaurants in Old Town, we'll probably look elsewhere first."

  • "I know that Mother's Day brunch can be tricky for a restaurant in terms of staff and food. But I was super disappointed by the general service (they brought my mother's dessert out only after all the four of us had ours and when I asked the waitress); and then my pork tenderloin was so salty, it was inedible…and the wait staff didn't even seem to notice that I barely picked at it."

  • "I took my cousin here earlier this week. Love the atmostphere/ambiance. The service, too, was terrific. However, the food was lackluster. I had the steak frittes. The steak was rubbery with no flavor and the fries were awful. They were soggy and limp as could be. I didn't even finish, and that's a first for me. Oh, the martini was good. I hadn't been to Bistro Margot in years, but I'll say that I probably won't be back again for several years. I wish it had been better."

  • "This is a FANTASTIC restaurant. We were a group of 18 people and they served one of the most delicious dinners I have ever had. The service was quick and professional considering the size of the group. Everything arrived at once and was prepared perfectly. I would recommend this restaurant very highly!!"

  • "Saturday night. Place was crowded and noisy. We sat in corner next to window. Despite cool night, air conditioning was on and kept us chilled throughout dinner. Service was OK except that waitress disappeared after dinner. Took fifteen minutes and intervention of maitre d' to get our check handled. Food was OK though not memorable. Prices are moderate--in keeping with food quality."

  • "I dined with a friend from out of town before heading to Second City. I had not been to Bistro Margo in many years. Our waitperson was unenthusiastic. The food was not good. I ordered the 'special' which was strip steak on top of mashed and spinach. The meat was embarassing. Tough, grisly, dry. My friend ordered the veal which she described as adequate. the creme brulee was terrible. I would have sent all of it back - but we were on our way to the theatre and were time constricted. I would say that the 'bus' staff were very attentive. I don't think I can recommend Bistro Margo."

  • "Atmosphere was very good--warm night so open windows. Drinks very good, salad same; entrees okay--I had the NY Strip and was disappointed it was so thin and Yukon Gold potatoes were average American Fries quality. Dessert excellent. Overall, would probably return."

  • "Walking through Old Town, we decided to look at OpenTable for places to eat and saw Bistrot Margot. Good atmosphere for the most part and it was gorgeous weather out so they had the outside wall open which was awesome. Server took a couple minutes to warm up but was friendly and professional. The food was great! The risotto and coq au vin were delicious. Also, we were surprised that the food was priced so reasonably, especially for a French restaurant. A great place to go for a nice meal that's not too expensive. Oh...and the desserts were great too! I'll definitely be back."

  • "This was the first time we went out to dinner on Easter instead of cooking at home for family and friends. Most of our usual guests joined us for a delicious dinner. Everyone was well pleased. No one had to do preparations or cleanup. We will do this again next year."

  • "Bistro Margot has one of the best Easter Brunches in town. The menu is derived from their regular offerings and not something easier to serve on a holiday. The price is very reasonable and the crowd is always fun."
