Diner Reviews
  • "The hostess was warm and inviting; the bread was warm and delicious; the tuna was outstanding; the chicken was delicious; the service was good, but a bit indifferent. We had a great meal."

  • "This was not my first visit to Bistrot Lepic. I choose to go there for several reasons. When I do not want to worry if the food will be good - it will be. When I do not want to feel hurried - I and my guests never have. When I want to be able to hear my dining companions easily - never a problem."

  • "A friend and I go to le pic for our birthdays twice a year. It is my favorite place for lunch."
    Dined on 4/12/2014
  • "Booked through open table last minute on a Saturday night. Were given a table in wine bar which was fine because we were underdressed compared with folk downstairs but the tables are coffee table height so eating a little more tricky. Service was prompt, specials were explained. The food came promptly but not rushed. Warm bread was supplied and replenished. Had we known about it sooner we would probably have visited a second time. Would definitely recommend."

  • "Our dinner at Bistrot Lepic was pleasing from start to finish. The waitress was personable, helpful and playful in a delightful way. Our meals ranged from delicious to fantastic. The trout was very good. The lamb tbone was amazing. The beet and goat cheese terrine was to die for, as was the salmon tartare. The ambiance is intimate, pretty, and French. I love the place."

  • "The food is both beautifully served and perfectly prepared. The wait staff is professional while remaining warmly attentive. The wine list is stellar and the house champagne at $8 a glass is a real treat. We're not typically dessert lovers, but the shared plum tart a la mode capped off the meal. You will feel like you are in France when you visit this Georgetown bistro."

  • "The appetizers were superior both in quality and inspiration. Average French bistro food. Both the veal kidneys and liver dishes were somewhat disappointing. Ile Flottante was the high point of the meal."

  • "Ted makes what's already excellent, excellente. Always come back here from SC."

  • "Very nice small French restaurant with good food and service. We celebrated my birthday. It was the first time we ate at this restaurant but hopefully not the last. It was a pleasant surprise."

  • "The Wine Bar (upstairs) is a special place -- welcoming, informal, interesting decor. The bartender who doubles as sommelier is knowledgeable about his wine list and able to describe alternatives in terms of their locale of origin, the character of the vineyard, and the taste of the wine. His comments on the choices we're considering are on point and delivered with a bit of humor and a smile. Don't go to the Wine Bar -- when we go, I don't want it to be too crowded."

  • "Excellent food, excellent wine, a nice place to get your mind off other things for a while and just enjoy dining. Service was also helpful and attentive."

  • "Beautiful décor both downstairs and upstairs. Upstairs is a little more funky. Delish food; I travel here for business and ALWAYS eat dinner at least one night."

  • "For those who want the authentic touch of a French Bistro, this is it. Very relaxed atmosphere. Superb wine list. Menu that is actually French. Excellent service. But again, fine wine and authentic bistro experience."

  • "Went for brunch and had an excellent experience. The restaurant is warm and charming. The food was delicious - sounds like a minor thing but I love French mustard/olive oil salad dressing and theirs is wonderful. The hostess was welcoming and attentive. It is a little outside of our usual Georgetown hang outs but will make the trip again to sample more of the menu. The wine bar upstairs looked like a great place to hang out with a group of friends."

  • "Bistrot Lepic provided a wonderful, romantic birthday dinner for my boyfriend and me. The restaurant was very accommodating of my requests for a table in a quieter, more secluded part of the place. The service was friendly and attentive and the food was excellent My entree, the beef medallions and polenta was exquisite. We went on a Monday, which is one of their Jazz Nights (upstairs they have a live jazz band playing), which meant that not only were we treated to excellent music (it was definitely not overpowering the patrons' conversations), but we also had access to the prixe fixe jazz night menu, which was a good deal. If you're looking for a great date night, this is it!"

  • "Bistrot Français pleases its upscale, mature Georgetown regulars with a formal yet friendly ambience, an appealing wine list, and an appetizing French-accented menu. Newer clients who enjoy table talk that does not require yelling will appreciate the downstairs dining room; the jazz music scene upstairs provides an alternative option. Side street parking is usually available nearby."

  • "Having visited Bistrot Lepic several times over the last decade we were delighted to visit once again on Sunday following a visit to the Georgetown Flea Market a block away. We were warmly received and given a delightful table near the front window. We enjoyed a glass of wine while we read the varied and rather large brunch menu. We opted for veal kidneys, pigs' feet and a ham and cheese omelet. Each dish was picture perfect, presented with an artistic touch and absolutely delicious. The prices are very reasonable, the portions are more than adequate and the service was attentive and made us feel quite welcome. We can't wait to return to try other tempting treats."

  • "With a touch of elegance, Lepic is a nice place for brunch/lunch. Service is attentive and efficient. Food is very nicely prepared and tasty. Slightly pricey - bill can inch up if one is not attentive. Breadbasket is delish but costly (but there may be bread-at-no-cost available). This is a real winner of a place. The Chinon is a very nice selection of wine by the glass."

  • "We had the veal chop and the veal cheeks. Both were excellent. Bistro Lepic can always be relied on for an enjoyable French dinner. Thanks!"

  • "Good food, good service. Upstairs there was a singer and combo. We were downstairs where it was quiet and we could talk. But upstairs it was very busy and fun. Love this restaurant."

  • "the food at Bistrot Lepic is better than good but i wouldn't say great. the big draw is the coziness of the wine bar upstairs and listening to music, especially Veronneau. It's a fantastic setting for live music. Very intimate."

  • "The food was excellent and beautifully presented. I ordered beef medallions and my friend ordered the scallops. Both came beautifully presented. The beef was very tender, lean and perfectly cooked. The polenta was a great complement and nicely prepared -- not at all runny. My friend said his dish was excellent. It is a small restaurant with a warm ambience. The service was perfect -- friendly and extremely efficient. This is not a restaurant where you will find the French waiter who thinks he is above it all. I will be returning soon with my husband."

  • "This intimate wine bar in upper Georgetown is a long-time favorite. With comfy, lounge-style seating, low tables with pull-out drawers to expand the surface area and a relaxed atmosphere, the upstairs at Bistrot Lepic delivers a consistent, top-notch food and wine experience. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and makes excellent wine-pairing recommendations. My husband and I have dined here for a decade for special occasions, gatherings with friends and casual nights out and are never disappointed. Last night the highlight was the special calamari Provencal appetizer with a subtle complex blend of flavors too numerous to count. We will never tire of this outstanding wine bar."

  • "Went for the music, Hot Club of Dc, and was not disappointed. The food was superb as well. I had cassoulet and my wife trout. Both dishes were tasty and filling. We will return with friends on our next visit to DC."

  • "You know you've found a good french restaurant, when half of the customers there are actually French. As someone who just moved back from living abroad in France for a year, I can honestly say, this is about as good as it gets. The food was phenomenal, and it was such a cute little place to dine."

  • "We had not been to Bistrot Lepic in a couple of years and thought we should try it again. We were pleased. We both had fish (trout and tuna), both prepared as described and both very good. The quality of the Tuna was excellent, as were the vegetables. Good wine list and individual glasses are generous."

  • "I moved to the area not too long ago and was looking for a place to celebrate my birthday (in January). Fortunately, a coworker told me it was restaurant week, and I found this little gem. I love French food and I love wine even more, so this was definitely the place to go. Since it was the restaurant week menu, I can't speak for the wider menu, but each course I had was simply delicious. I also appreciated the menu was en francais! (English is underneath!) We were near another couple to whom the staff were more attentive, so it became a bit obvious that we weren't being visited. They were always friendly, we (there were two of us) were just left waiting for our plates to be cleared so we could get the next course. Not the end of the world."

  • "You will find some delightful gourmet dishes here (including some well-prepared sweet breads, delicious veal cheeks, and wonderfully rare tuna) but the atmosphere is not the least bit standoffish. My wife and i went with our teenagers and we all enjoyed both the food and the service. And the desserts are exquisite."

  • "I have been going here over the years though not a regular. The food has steadily gone down in taste, and the menu is rather limited so be sure to check the menu online to see if there is something you would like. The service though has definitely deteriorated. We left very disappointed with the experience."

  • "My boyfriend and I went here during Restaurant Week to celebrate our anniversary. We didn't realize how "remote" it is from Georgetown until we mapped out our commute. It wasn't that difficult to get to. The interior decor is nice, and the service was pretty good. Food is typical countryside French but prepared very well. I really like the cassoulet. I must have been very hungry that I finished off the whole bowl! The wine list is impressive -- we each ordered half glasses of two different wines (I forgot which ones). The waiter gave good suggestions about which wine goes well with the food we ordered. I think it's a nice little place to go on a date, or to just check out the wines."

  • "Overall food was good as it usually is at Bistro Lepic, but it was really slow getting to our table. Almost one hour until the entrees arrived. I like the restaurant but this is not acceptable service."

  • "Enjoyed going back to a long-time neighborhood spot in Georgetown. Cassoulet still as good as always and a nice spot for a causual dinner with friends."

  • "Bistort Lepic has long been a favorite. The Monday and Wednesday jazz in the Wine Bar makes it possible to combine superb cuisine with great music. Ben Redwine is a long-time favorite our ours, and being able to see his group in a small space is a great way to spend an evening. Our server clearly understood that we were there for the duration, and spaced pouring our wine so that the bottle lasted most of the three hours that the trip played. Noise level from the bar is a bit high at times, but still tolerable. Next time we will ask to sit closer to the musicians. Moule and escargot risotto appetizers were excellent. Cassolet is always done well, as was the fish. Excellent wine list. All in all, a near-perfect evening."

  • "Four of us went for dinner during Restaurant week. There was a large sleection on the menu and all of us enjoyed very much all three courses. One of our favorite neighborhood restaurants, and it was excellent even given the strains of Restaurant Week."

  • "I guess it's typical for French waiters to be rather standoffish (or maybe it was the fact that my boyfriend and I were sticking to the Restaurant Week menu and didn't order any alcohol, to boot), but the food and the menu selection almost makes up for it. This restaurant has an incredible array of appetizer, entree, and dessert options for the Restaurant Week menu. The cassoulet was divine. Definitely check it out if you're looking for fresh, flavorful French food."

  • "Bistrot Lepic offered one of the best Restaurant Week menu selections I've experienced, and the three-course lunch my companion and I agreed was magnificent. Not only a value but a memorable dining treat. I'll return more frequently during non-Restaurant Weeks now that I am aware of what a terrific restaurant Bistrot Lepic has become, including the charming spaces for diners downstairs and bar/tapa patrons upstairs."
