Diner Reviews
  • "While this restaurant is marvelous for a special occasion, pull-out-all-the-stops meal, it is equally marvelous for a casual drop-in drink or light bite. The menu is classic French fare, the wine list is extraordinary, and they thoughtfully offer half-glasses of wine for those who want to try different wines or who want a bit more than a drop but less than the full glass. The atmosphere is warm and friendly -- you can come in a group or on your own and feel fully welcome either way. The upstairs bar and lounge is my preferred space - convivial and often featuring great music. All in all, a fantastic bistro!"

  • "Their Restaurant Week menu was far and away more extensive than any other. We 5 were pleased with all of our appetizers and main dishes - delicious!"

  • "My wife and I visited Bistrot Lepic during restaurant week. The food was awesome with the right portions and good balance of less carbs which we both enjoyed. While the restaurant is small, there is still lots of privacy during our meals. If you are getting a table on opentable.com, I recommend putting a note for a corner table."

  • "Pick carefully & Lepic can provide a good French meal w/o a passport. Visited for Fri. lunch during Restaurant Week. $20 & change bought us a lunch worthy of a local cafe in any one of Paris' arrondisements. Some pluses and minuses this time around: both ordered our favorite bacon & onion tart as an app. only to be told that "the kitchen was out." C'mon guys - it's a very popular item; please plan better....Finally the kitchen was able to deliver them, but they were galettes, not tarts. One of us enjoyed delicious beef medallions w/ Gruyere polenta but my salmon in shredded potato crust was soaked in oil on bottom. Kitchen ran out of fruit tarts for dessert, so they graciously packed up 2 chocolate tarts for us to go. Very good service. —"

  • "This was a restaurant week visit...and the menu offerings were simply fabulous. Ris de veau and foie de veau were both beautifully presented and brilliantly prepared. We will keep returning as we have for years. I also recommend with equal fervor Lepic's sister establishment: La Picquette."

  • "What can I say other than SUPERB. This restaurant is truly a favorite of mine. I try not to order the same thing twice, and I have never been disappointed."

  • "Bistrot Lepic had the most generous Restaurant Week menu we found. Already fans of this French bistro, we decided to go. The food was delicious as usual, the choices for the prix fixe menu were wide-ranging. Service was attentive. We're lucky it is in our neighborhood."

  • "Cozy & comfortable, recommended for small group. Excellent service, and delicious fare, including their warm, fresh baguette"

  • "It's great to find a bistro that still serves French cuisine in the traditional way. They offer such items such as escargots and veal kidneys which you can't find anymore in the more trendy restaurants, served in adult sized portions. They may be the reason why this place has been in DC for a long while."

  • "The restaurant was bright and cheerful and the sound level was low enough to hear your companion. The service was fine. The food, though, was of mixed quality. My wife ordered the mozzarella and tomato salad and an onion tart. Both were excellent. My first course was a cold peach soup. It, too, was fine. My entrée was medallions of beef, ordered "medium." It came "well done." I tried several of the medallions and they all were "well done." The food was fully edible and, indeed, I did eat it, but a restaurant of this quality should do better."

  • "This was our first experience at Lepic, which is a short walk from Dumbarton Oaks. After visiting the museum, we had time before our 5:30 reservation and we were surprised the bar did not open until 5:30. I had the Provencale vegetable soup. Hubby had the onion tart. Both were fantastic. My shrimp (four) and risotto entree was delicious. Hubby had the scallops, which he loved. Although he has a big appetite and there only were four medium-sized scallops and broccoli mousse, he was fine because he wanted to save room for dessert. We shared a fruit tart, which was excellent. I thought the wine by the glass options were limited. No Vouvray or Cote du Rhone at a French restaurant?! Service was top-level. We would return."

  • " very impressed. it was empty on a Friday night but not sure why, the food was the best I've had in some time and the wine was fantastic/ plenty of choices. staff was extremely knowledgeable about the food and drink. highly recommended."

  • "Bistrot Lepic has been around for at least 20 years, and the reason isn't hard to find -- really, really good food in a classy environment at reasonable prices with excellent service. It's actually more dressed up (and less noisy) than a bistro, which makes it a nice place to celebrate a birthday or enjoy a quiet meal with a reasonably priced glass of wine."

  • "We love Bistrot Lepic. It is authentic: the ambiance is relaxing, the food is very good, it has a good wine list, and the service is friendly. This time we took advantage of the complimentary wine tasting (Tuesday evenings, 6-8 p.m.) and visited the wine bar upstairs. The menu is more limited, but we enjoyed some very special "specials." Highly recommended, well worth the trip up Wisconsin Ave!"

  • "People who live here might say that this is damning with faint praise, for most Georgetown restaurants are for tourists only. Bistro Lepic is out of the center, catering to the locals, who are far more discerning and sophisticated than the tourists. Good, interesting food at decent prices, with helpful, pleasant service."

  • "Excellent food and service, except for a young guy, his tone was rough amd not attentive. Everybodyelse was extremely nice. Food was delicious, unfortunately the dessert was very bad compared to the standard expected. It turns me off such a nice food and bad dessert."

  • "Have eaten here before but this meal was one of the best ever...a chicken dish with coconut milk, curry, lemongrass...like a chicken stew with the most delicious sauce...will go back to this neighborhood restaurant Again soon."

  • "Moved away from DC in 2011 and always return to Bristot Lepic whenever we're back in town. Fabulous food, great wine list (and reasonably priced), with a very friendly neighborhood vibe. Perfect for a special occasion or for just a pleasant night out. Live jazz a couple of times a week."

  • "Wonderful, romantic, enchanting lounge. The ambience, food, and music are all good. It is a little tight, but what the heck. Adds to the character."

  • "Authentically French with a friendly staff. This was a good pick for my wife and I; just a simple night out for the two of us, without the kids. The food was quite good. Because of the restaurant's relative small size, it was a little loud, but not too bad. There is a nice bar/lounge on the second floor, but I didn't know about it until after dinner, when I went exploring for the restroom. If you want a quiet place to talk, head upstairs. All in all, a very good experience; I would return if in the area."

  • "Although I'd been to Bistrot Lepic for dinner, I figured I'd try it out with a friend for Saturday brunch. When we arrived at 11:15, the restaurant was pretty empty, but our wait staff was super friendly and service was efficient. My friend had the Poached eggs with spinach and crabmeat and I had the three-egg omelet. We also shared an order of fries, which were fantastic! Food was fresh, seasoned perfectly and the fresh bread was wonderful. A great brunch and we'll return!"

  • "If you are looking for authentic French cuisine, this is the place. Bistrot Lepic is among our favorites. It is a bit outside the Georgetown hustle, but well worth the hike up Wisconsin Avenue. We usually enjoy the upstairs wine bar; this time we opted for the downstairs dining room. The menu has some unusual items (the tarte à l'oignon appetizer is always special, and we really enjoyed the joues de veau braisées this time). The wine list has a good range of French selections. The service is friendly. Tables are rather close together, but that's part of the French charm."

  • "We love this restaurant and have been there many times and never been disappointed. The food is always delicious, the service is knowledgable and good and the wine list is good and affordable. The upstairs wine bar is very attractive and a good place to meet for a pre-dinner drink. "

  • "I recommended this restaurant as a treat for a friend after a previous exquisite dining experience(admittedly, that was several years ago). The ambience was the only positive aspect of the entire dinner. The recommended mushroom appetizer was visually unappealing & difficult to finish (mushrooms that tasted canned and think chef-boyardee for the tomato-based sauce). My entree, spring salad with grilled(george forman?) seafood, continued the downward trend, with an unrecognizable fish of the day (inedible), salmon, tasteless shrimp, and mussels substituted for scallops (I don't like mussels). Creme brulee was unremarkable. Offering this dinner as a treat was truly an embarrassment, especially when the dinner made her violently ill."

  • "Bistrot Lepic is a small gem of a restaurant on Wisconsin at S. Very unassuming from the outside, very French inside. Like finding a neighborhood bistro in France. My veal cheeks with pasta and my wife's salmon were wonderful as was the house salad. Save room for a great cream brûlée. "

  • "Spent the morning visiting the monuments and the afternoon wandering the Smithsonian. Bistrot Lepic was the perfect way to finish out the day. The Jazz ensemble was fantastic, the relaxed, cozy atmosphere was perfect. Attentive service, waitors that were familiar with the menu and could make excellent educated suggestions. Will definitely be back on my next visit to the area!"
