A word from Bistrot La Minette
Bistrot La Minette is the realization of Chef Peter Woolsey's dream that began a decade ago during his earliest days studying in France: to create a restaurant that would share his love of the authentic bistrot experience with his fellow Philadelphians. Chef Peter pays great respect to the traditional dishes that he creates and honors the classical French methods required to achieve unparalleled bistrot cuisine. Both savory and pastry menus are ever evolving to reflect the seasons, the availability of the best ingredients and the inspiration of the chef. They are drawn from the various regions of France and the multitude of delicacies that each has to offer. The service is both efficient and warm, rooted in a foundation of hospitality and caring for our guests. Our goal is for Bistrot La Minette to be accessible to all guests that enjoy superb food and wine, and the company of their companions: hoping to evoke their best memories-or dreams-of traditional French bistrot dining.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "I thought I wandered into France the other night at Bistrot La Minette, from the menu (escargots!) to the unisex toilettes with a single shared sink. No roller towels, but cloth towels. Buttery Bibb lettuce salad dressed with a perfect mustard vinaigrette, spring pea soup intensely green, grilled sardines. Despite the intriguing wine list, we shared an utterly drinkable house white. A mini-vacation so close to home."

  • "Food and service-excellent. Ambiance was too European for me. Friendly and knowledgeable staff."

  • "What can I say? Went for my birthday with my daughter on a Monday evening. Asked if the chef could do a tasting menu (even though they don't normally on weekdays), he (I take it the sous chef, as the head chef was not there) gladly obliged and we had an incredible 5-course tasting menu that was out of this world. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and paired wines with each course that were perfect. They even gave us some chocolates to take home. Two hours of pure bliss. The atmosphere is gorgeous as well, an old building perfectly restored as a French bistro. I can't recommend Bistrot La Minette enough, one of the better meals I've had in Philly and up there with the likes of Will, Sbraga, and Farm and the Fisherman. GO!"

  • "Escargot. Lamb shank. Braised rabbit with tagliatelle (will order again on next visit). The very best service - professional and warm, not too chatty. Can't wait to return, this time for dessert as well."

  • "Brunch was a great dining experience. The menu was varied enough to suit all of us. The staff was very attentive and helpful. The prefix menu was affordable and very delicious. We have been here many times and it just keeps getting better."

  • "Bistrot La Minette is a phenomenal establishment. My fiancé and I had our anniversary dinner there on July 4th, and I cannot express how much we enjoyed the entire dining experience. I have always deeply loved French cuisine, but my fiancé had never partaken in it's greatness. All I can say is "Thank you, Bistrot" for living up to and exceeding my expectations and for making my fiancé love French food as much as I do! Our server was very attentive, the ambience is incredibly charming, and the food was transcendental. Cannot wait to return!"

  • "Beautifully lit, nice ambiance, wonderful place to enjoy delicate tastes, hearty food, and French wine. Toast with mussels and eggs was delicious. Orange tart with chocolate sorbet is magical, but reqires full focus. Service was kind, and attentive."

  • "A small narrow bistro style restaurant with great food. The décor is very plain, but the food isn't. The foies gras special was delicious. Their muscle and egg appetizer was incredible. My wife thoroughly enjoyed the salmon and I had the beef short rib which was essentially a wonderful French beef stew. The wait staff was very attentive, friendly, and offered great suggestions. We would go back."

  • "My date and I were looking for a French restaurant and we couldn't have picked a better place. I had the asparagus salad with lardons as an appetizer and the roast chicken. The lardons were crispy and delicious; the asparagus was perfectly cooked. The roast chicken were perfectly tender with a sweet/savory sauce that was complex on the palate. The selections of kirs was interesting; I chose the ginger kir royale and I was pleasantly surprised at how light and drinkable it was. One of the best items on the menu was free. The french bread which is made in-house may have been the best I have had outside of France."

  • "We have been to many bistros in Paris, this is very close. The food and décor. The service much better than Paris. Will be back again and again."

  • "As someone who grew up in France, I definitely approve of Bistrot la Minette. It's affordable and they are very authentic. I always feel like I'm stepping back into Paris whenever I walk in. Their food is great without all of the unnecessary thrills you find at most other French restaurants. I go at least once a month and their prix fixe menus are unbeatable!"

  • "Hadn't been to Bistrot for a year or more while I tried all the new French bistro style restaurants in the city. Then last week I met a friend for dinner at Bistrot La Minette. Amazing meal, fabulous service, and beautiful, truly French-like bistro setting. Wonderful to rediscover this bistro that's the real thing. Now I'll be a regular!"

  • "This place never disappoints. Our food was fantastic. The service was impeccable. There was an error made in the kitchen (my boyfriend's duck had been overcooked "to a point the chef was not comfortable serving it"), and the wait-staff handled it perfectly. They brought over a course of salad (gratis, of course), at which point they informed us of the slight delay for our entree, and apologized on behalf of the chef. If only all restaurants handled mistakes with such grace! We didn't even have time to be upset-- we were too busy enjoying our free salads! The entrees were also worth the wait! And the chocolate mousse dessert was to die for. I highly recommend this place!"

  • "We were treated to a special Basque menu and were not disappointed. From time to time this restaurant has special meals highlighting certain areas of France. This was one such event and the food was superb. If one wanted to he/she could have had wine pairings with each course. We chose to order their house red and it was excellent. This is a true French bistro - rare in Philly - and worth returning to many times."

  • "Lovely evening at Bistrot La Minette. Bartender Brett was excellent, hostess was very accommodating and we landed an outdoor deck table on a beautiful summer evening. Everything was delicious from apps to main course to dessert. Highly recommend."

  • "We are never disappointed with this gem. The staff is busy , friendly, helpful with suggestions, and not invasive. The food is always a hit! and the bistro environment is up to its description. We feel like we are pampered and expected .... Thanks again for another wonderful evening and meal."

  • "Out of all the great restaurants in the Philly area, I think Bistrot La Minette is my favorite. The food is awesome, the service solid, and the ambiance comforting. To start we ordered the Pea & Parsley Soup and the Seared Scallops. The soup was vivid bright in flavor, and the scallops were cooked perfectly. For mains, we had the Braised Beef Short Rib and the Wine Braised Lamb. You can sense a lot of care in preparing each dish. We had a table outside on the front porch area. Apparently the courtyard is under renovation, but there is something to do with the lease. Once again I had an enjoyable meal here. Another cool thing is that the house wine, served in carafes, are not bad at all. Highly recommend Bistrot La Minette!"

  • "Bistro La Minette never fails - at least they never have for me! It's probably my favorite restaurant next to New York's Gramercy Tavern (at a much lower price!). The service is great, the atmosphere is comfortable and relaxing, and the food is delicious."

  • "I dined alone at Bistrot La Minette and was waited on by Bret. He was by far one of the best servers I have ever had the pleasure to have serve me. He made thoughtful suggestions, helped me find a cell phone charger when I asked and didn't hover. The food was excellent as well. The surprise amuse bouche and chocolate truffle were a very pleasant and welcome surprise. As my first restaurant to visit in Philadelphia during a business trip, I couldn't be more pleased. Thank you for a memorable meal and a special thanks to Bret for the excellent service."

  • "We went for a Saturday night dinner. The room was exactly as promised on the internet; cozy, great look and well appointed. The food was absolutely top of the line. It is a touch pricey but worth every penny. It has been two days and we are still talking about every bite. We are looking forward to trying the brunch. On the other hand, the service while efficient and effective was also cold, to the point of being borderline unfriendly. To try and elicit a smile from anyone on the service staff was quite an undertaking"

  • "Our favorite creperie across the street was packed one night so we tried Bistrot La Minette. The food is rich and deep and subtle…and the servings, while generous, were not overwhelming. The service is professional. They offer carafes and half carafes of good house wine. And my guests and I love the open, gracious feel of the dining area. It's a go-to place to take out-of-town guests, especially francophile foodies."

  • "Bistrot La Minette offers great food fully matched by wine. Everything ordered by our group of three was excellent - appetizers and main courses. The service was friendly, polite and efficient. Furthermore, when we were at the place earlier that our reservation time, we were seated without fuss; by this we were impressed, too. All in all, the French food at its best and excellent service is waiting for you at this place."

  • "The food was succulent, perfectly prepared. That is why I say the chef is being shortchanged by others of the staff. My wife and I did not feel welcome, more like an interruption to hostess' and bartender's evening. Just because you are serving French food doesn't mean you have to act like French people. That being said, our waitress was pleasant enough and efficient. We will dine elsewhere in the future."

  • "On the top of our list for the consistency displayed in all of the above. A special mention to service- those with food allergies/sensitivities are well served by Ed, who pays attention to all ingredients and can steer you away( quickly) from a food you cannot eat). Always delicious and consistent food. Conscientiously prepared and served."

  • "authentic bistro feel. Service was adequate but with attitude. I asked for some details about the chicken dish. Waitress answered in a way that didn't make sense to me and when I asked for clarification, she was unpleasant and arrogant. Set the tone for the rest of our interactions with her. (By the way, my guess about the dish was indeed correct. She was wrong.) In addition, chicken was far too salty (and I like salt). Same with the butter for the bread basket: much too salty. Short ribs were uninspired. Don't bother. That said, beef tartare was excellent, seared fois gras app was excellent. Wine list nice and reasonably-priced. Menu is authentic but would benefit from a steak-frites option. Restaurant is worth a try."
