Diner Reviews
  • "Loved some new items on the menu, but asked for and was served our favorite Caesar Salad. The new Steak Pomme Frites were fabulous. I ate every scrap of decoration and au jus!!! Terrific. We had raspberry sorbet to for a small dessert. Great Great great. You must go to this fabulous restaurant again and again!!!"

  • "Sometimes more upscale restaurants are ruined by a snooty staff. Not bistronomic. It was outstanding food served by nice human beings. We went there on 1/21 - one of those freezing cold nights - and our experience there helped turn around our day. So good! I've been meaning to write this for awhile because it stuck with me. We had the country pate, Lyonnaise salad, duck confit a l'orange, steak frites, the duo of pork, and the choc/PB bars for dessert. Yum, yum, yum, yum. I would swap out the pate and the dessert for other dishes next time, but we were delighted."

  • "This was our second visit to Bistronomic, and we were not disappointed. The food was great, the service excellent, and the atmosphere pleasant and relaxing. The specials were interesting without being too "out there" and the usual items all had a nice flair."

  • "My first time to this place and I had a great time. Great food, service and ambience. The baked alaska was the perfect touch to wrap up the wonderful experience. I definitely recommend and we will be coming back."

  • "Bistronomic has become our favorite restaurant. We shared a romantic dinner there during our honeymoon and it was wonderful and delicious. Since then, we have invited friends and have celebrated other special events there. We always enjoy our meal, the staff are friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. I highly recommend Bistronomic."

  • "I frequent this restaurant and while the service is hit or miss, the food is always on point. The quiche lorraine and eggs benedict are solid choices for brunch along with the bottomless mimosas. For lunch, the Lyonnaise salad is always fresh and delicious. And, the chicken and filet are favorite go-to meals for dinner."

  • "Restaurant didn't disappoint!! Food was prompt and waiter constantly stopped by to check on my son and I. My only complaint would be our last course took over 15 minutes to prepare so we took it to go. Chef came out personally to apologize."

  • "What a GEM this place is! I have dined here several times and everytime has been a memorable experience. Recently I went there with several friends and once again it was an amazing experience. I had the Scallops & Seared Ahi Tuna, and it was simply delectable. My wife had the Scottish Salmon and it was by far the most amazing Salmon she ever tasted. Everything I have tried on the menu has been out of this world and I have always had a great time at Bistronomic."

  • "Well the good news first: the wine list was great, the atmosphere and location are great, the noise level was excellent for a group of 6 who wanted to talk without shouting. The limited menu had good options. The strong pluses end here. The pork chop was specifically requested to be med. rare and was told that was the way it was cooked. It came med. well to well, hard and rubbery. The associated pork belly, though, was great along with the beets and broccoli. The chicken was good, not great. The tuna, though told would be cooked rare, was way overcooked! The server acted like he would be real attentive, but knew little about how things were really prepared and never seemed to be there when you needed him, though it wasn't busy."

  • "Well managed bistro with excellent food and service. The chef owner cares and it shows. The chicken liver mousse was like velvet and the seared scallops were spot on. Wait staff was warm and friendly. The follow up phone call by Martial was unexpected and a classy touch. Great go to a spot downtown."

  • "I made a reservation there for 8 people this past Sunday. We were running late due to a prior appt and I called to say we were late. When we got there we found out that the brunch only went to 2:30 pm and we were totally rushed to order. I wish they had mentioned this to me when I called to tell them we were running late bc we would have went elsewhere. We definitely felt rushed the whole way through our meal, but they were courteous and got us what we ordered. The food was fantastic!. We had the soup, pate, salads, steak and eggs, etc. Everyone like their meal except on person who ordered a grilled cheese/salad combo but that was it. I will definitely be back there- but will be making an earlier reservation as we felt very rushed."

  • "New to Chicago and found Gastronomic on Urban Spoon. Everything about the experience was great. All staff, from the bussers, to the servers to the hosts, made us feel welcome. We plan to make this a regular dinner spot!"

  • "Bistronomic is just off the beaten path so it seems to not get the traffic it should. The place is wonderful and a great value for the top quality service and food."

  • "I had brunch with two companions at Bistronomic on a recent Sunday. I'm hoping our experience was just an anomaly, and not a trend, because my previous visits to this restaurant were all better than this one. The food was very good, as it always is, but the server this time was uninterested in doing his job; in fact, he seemed indignant about being there. He was impolite, he barely spoke, he didn't introduce himself, and he didn't pay attention. Had this been my first time at Bistronomic, I wouldn't return, despite the good food. But because I know that his behavior is atypical of the servers there, I intend to go back. But I'll ask first about who my server is."

  • "Bistronomic consistently serve outstanding French food with excellent service. We go often and we were never disappointed. Very good appetizers, excellent main courses whether it is steak frites or Scottish salmon or a pork chop. Different desserts but the baked Alaska is hard to resist."

  • "Hopeless jet lag and the staff were patient and helpful. Great Amish chicken. Huge portion by British standards; ended up taking half away with us. I would definitely go back to this restaurant."

  • "We were pleasantly surprised by some of the interesting food options at bistronomic -- certainly referencing French tradition, but with new, urban/American accents. The atmosphere was lively and fun like a perfect French bistro. Just a tad loud at times. Service was terrific!"

  • "We were the only patrons at a late lunch. The staff was so nice and never tried to rush our service. My Atlantic Char was excellent as was my husband'beef. He said it was better than most steakhouses. The profiteroles for dessert were outstanding."

  • "The food is delicious. I had Arctic Char over an intensely flavorful preparation of white beans. My friend had sweet potato gnocchi, and we both started with celery root velouté. Profiteroles, passion fruit sorbet and cappuccino topped off the evening. Wide range of wine choices are also available. The chef roams the dining room, checking in with the diners...delightful."

  • "I had the tenderloin au poivre and my girlfriend had the tenderloin/shortrib special. Both were good, but not spectacular. The escargot app was excellent, and the lobster bisque very good. The highlight was dessert. Baked Alaska was amazing and the black and white creme brulee was too, except that part of it was overdone with a burnt flavor. Our service was acceptable but perfunctory. We liked the ambience but found the table a bit too small for apps, bread, and water. We had a good experience, but in this price range I have had much more memorable meals. We don't dine like this regularly, and for our next special occasion I'll choose another spot in search of that standout meal."

  • "In Chicago for the weekend with my spouse. After a great day of taking in the city, we wanted some great food, but not the usual places that out-of-towners go... Open Table let us find this place, walking distance from our hotel and enjoy a fantastic dinner at this restaurant. Polite staff, quick to service the table, nice interaction with us, a nice menu with difficult choices. We'd go again."

  • "What can I say. Bistronomic, under the innovative mind of Martial Noguier, continues to serve the best food in Chicago. Martial 's dishes offer complex flavors without being overwhelming. He is an extraordinary chef with a creative passion that exceeds all others. To top that, his prices are incredibly reasonable. Finally, he is an excellent host who sincerely wants please his customers. Bravo!"

  • "Food was good and many selections for a pre-fix dinner. Our table was near a main serving and walking artery in the side room, perhaps this table was added for the busy night. We both got identical meals, and temps for entrées. The Lobster bisque was very flavorful and not too salty, however could have been a little thicker. It was poured table side and piping hot, nice touch. The Beef Short Ribs & Beef Tenderloin were both slightly over temp. Ordered med. on the advice of our sever in hopes to get med.-med. rare. Still great flavor but a bit dry (med. well). Omelette Norvégienne (think baked Alaska) was a nice finish although a little heavy on the pistachios. Dining companion fared slightly better in the temp department. Left full."

  • "This is a wonderful restaurant. Attentive, knowledgeable staff with great food. The Chef made me a vegan dish that was not on the menu that was delicious."

  • "We went to three restaurants during Restaurant Week. Bistronomic was the last and, by far, the best. Although the prix fixe menu selections were limited, they were fantastic options! The salad, tuna tartar, arctic char and steaks were all memorable. They will be my first reservation next year during Restaurant Week - but I won't wait until then to return."

  • "We dined here during restaurant week and thoroughly enjoyed it. The char was incredible and the celery soup was very good Service was friendly and efficient. It is small, well appointed and attractive. Great "date night" find."

  • "We visited during restaurant week on one of the coldest nights of the year and it was quite drafty and cold at our table, even though we were far from the door and restaurant was pretty full. Staff were very considerate and attentive. Ambiance ( other than the cold) was pleasant. However, except for the appetizer salad and velouté, the food was unexceptional. The charcuterie plate was particularly disappointing. If we lived closer, we might try again on another night and make more informed choices."

  • "Wow, the staff at this restaurant were wonderful! We were greeted promptly, sat promptly, waited on promptly, and had such a wonderful time. We ordered from the special Restaurant Week menu and thoroughly enjoyed the Duck, Atlantic Chard, and Sweet Potato Gnocchi entrees. The Endive salad and Celery Root soup were spectacular. I like it when a restaurant's chef comes out to meet guests and Chef Noguier did just that! I've been to Paris and can say this place had the feel of a French bistro. I will return for more gastronomic delights!"

  • "I think restaurant week is a great concept but I don't think Bistronomics cared to impress new patrons. My soup starter was very good and was a great start, I got the sweet potato gnocchi which was drowning in sauce and I could barely find any gnocchi on my plate. The large chunks of garlic was off putting as well. The highlight of my meal was the dessert - it was just the right size with delicious vanilla ice cream. It was my favorite part about the whole meal. If I was in the area, would I go back to Bistronomics? Probably not but I think it's worth trying out once"

  • "Went here with a group of 6 for restaurant week. Had an amazing time! Our table was full and we were sat late, they politely picked up our drinks while we waited and arrived at our table with a couple appetizers on the house. Our waitress was great, keep us ordering and focused without being pushy, since it was a group of us who tend to chat and laugh and lose time. Food was fantastic, never had sweet potato gnocchi before. Ambience set a good mood. I would highly recommend this to anyone, worth the money."
