My wife and I have come to West Bistro on and off for over 2 years. We find the service to be great, but the food is very inconsistent. Our last dinning experience was the worst I've had in years. Once again service was great, food was terrible. When told about the food being bad the management took the meal off my bill, but that's not the issue. If you want appetizers or finger food or pizza you can pretty much expect some consistency. It's the entries that just don't measure up on a regular basis.

Took our two young grandchildren (6 and 3). Very family friendly. Everyone was very friendly with them. I had the short ribs (yummy but a little dry) and husband had Gumbo which was fantastic. Service very good. Kids had sliders (little overdone) and chicken tenders OK. We spend one week a yr at Carlsbad and this is always on our list.

This visit to Bistro West was disappointing. Instructions provided regarding an entrée were not followed, the food seemed a bit pedestrian, like just another plate out of hundreds, and the server was a bit over the top in energy. We were disappointed enough that we will probably seek another dining spot next time we meet our friends.

We just had a few apps - all excellent: bruschetta (a twist ont he usual), a pan pizza (thin focaccia with arugula and prosciutto and a melted cheese fondue to add), ahi sashimi with a mango salsa. Lisa was a ver good server. Kitchen was slow onone item, but the service was so good we hardly noticed. Refills came without asking. And it's a good meting place for work when I'm in SD and others are coming from the OC.

Nice people, good service but the food was average at best. NY Steak was tough, gnocchi bland. Pizza was described as neopolitan-like and actually it was. really good. Bread pudding was also really good. Some good, some not so good. Atmoshphere was a bit 2nd rate Vegas buffet room atmosphere, but again, the staff was the star of the show.

Our first time at the Bistro West and it helped to make a reservation and get directions on Open Table! Friendly staff showed us right to a booth and wait staff was quick and knowledgable. The Chopped Wedge Salad was really tasty, could improve on presentation, but it's chopped or deconstructed. The local Mussels are really nice, a generous portion and great broth. The New York Steak was excellent, tender and cooked to perfection. A 12 oz steak meant take out for lunch the next day. Pasta, Pizza, Meatloaf, Seafood, great sides and desserts: there is something for everyone at Bistro West. We observed lots of happy family groups sharing pizza.

Bistro West is our place to go for special occasions - not because it's expensive, because we just like to keep it "special". When I made the reservation, I mentioned that it was my husband's birthday - and EVERYONE who talked to us while we were there wished him a happy birthday, and they offered him a free dessert. The servers are amazing - always attentive, always pleasant and welcoming. And the food - OMG - so delicious. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Given the moderate prices, and the service/food/ambience you get for those prices, it's WELL WELL worth it. Their happy hour is great, too. Highly, highly recommend this place (and no, I'm not related to anyone there!) :)

We were taken to a corner of the restaurant near the exit door where two gentlemen were already seated and talking very loudly. Our waiter took our order, delivered our food and proceeded to forget us for the rest of the meal. We had to listen to a man who was very much in love with the sound of his own voice throughout the meal even though there were plenty of tables available. The best place to sit in this restaurant is in the bar area. At least there, you know it will be loud.

Bistro West was perfect for reconnecting with friends. We talked for quite a while and never felt rushed by the staff. I had the New York steak salad that was delicious. We splurged and had dessert. The bread pudding, although it sounds old fashioned, was the best dessert I have ever had. I highly recommend having one at the restaurant and ordering one to take home.

I took my 17 yr old and 23 yr old out for a nice dinner. We were not disappointed. Filet Mignon with Peppercorn sauce was the best I have had in a long time. cooked to perfection!! "Kids" enjoyed seafood tortellini with lobster tail and steak fritte (hanger steak). My son had to get dessert and the mud pie satisfied a sweet craving for all of us. Service was top notch and we were not left waiting for water or drinks. even the bread was replenished for my son without asking. Recommended to those not on a budget as the bill can add up, but the food is worth the price. We will be back.

We enjoyed our brunch very much. The menu was interesting with large potions, maybe a little too large. Service was great. Waiter knew the menu well and had good suggestions, interesting though, the reservation was nowhere to be found even though I received an email confirmation. I'm not sure if the hostess was looking in the right place on the computer, or it didn't get through to the restaurant. I'd like to use this service again, but hope it works next time!

My husband and I decided to have a 'date night' after day on the beach with the family on July 4th and found this restaurant the perfect setting. The service was great and the food excellent. We arrived early but we were seated right away, the service was prompt and the staff knew their menu and I was able to choose a meal knowing what I was getting. We have been there before for brunch with family and had been impressed with the service then so decided to try it for a more intimate meal and we're glad we did. Plenty to choose from the menu but not too large that it takes 1/2 hour to read, extensive wine menu but we didn't have wine this time, the cocktails were good too!

Food was very nicely prepared (when it was corrected, as the order was wrong) as usual, hostess was excellent and friendly and seated me at my favorite quiet table, even the bus-boy was friendly and helpful (correcting the food prep error) but the waiter was less than attentive and very arrogant. Funny how poor service can over-shadow a good meal. Don't judge by this experience - they have always been top notch at other times here.

Made last minute reservations, however it was not busy, thus reservations where not needed. The restaurant ambiance was much more than expected. Clean, open and modern booths were inviting and comfortable. Good wine ( not extensive) however pricey. I had a excellent Sea Bass and wife had a delicious ( but not as good as my dish) halibut. Serves was excellent. Definitely worth a try if your in the Carlsbad area.

My daughter got straight A's so as a reward we went to dinner and she got to pick the place . Well of course she wanted the Bistro's chicken pot pie! I had the beet salad and added blackened salmon. The salmon was amazing!! And it's my favorite beet salad anywhere so now it's just perfect with the protein added. My daughter said the chicken pot pie was perfection as usual. I have to admit it's even better than my homemade one ;) To my daughters delight there was a promotion going to reward kids with straight A's- free dessert! Luckily, we had her report in the car to mail to grandma. It was a perfect way to end an amazing celebration dinner!! And great incentive for straight A's next year too :)
