Bistro VoltaireHighly recommend!Our experience at Bistro Voltaire was wonderful! The ambiance and decor sets the mood from the moment you walk in. The staff is incredibly friendly, especially our server Steven. We ate here on our first night in Chicago and he gave us many suggestions of other things to do in the city. He also chose a great wine to go with the mouthwatering salmon. The salmon literally melts in your mouth; it is cooked to perfection. There were several tables of diners but once they finished the tables did not refill. Don't know if it was busier earlier in the evening. The food was delicious. Started out with a large seafood platter for an appetizer (we were 4 people) and that was tasty. We had the lamb, salmon, chicken and duck for our entrees and all were very happy with their choices. For dessert, we had the apple strudel, cheesecake and chocolate cake. Again, all were delighted with their desserts. I had the filet mignon and ordered medium well. It was too well done but the waiter took it back and brought it back second time.

Our seafood platters and steak frites were superb and the service was outstanding. My only complaint (and it's fairly minor) is with the size of the restaurant. It's quite small and narrow; the tables are right up on each other and are fairly tiny. It makes for a cozy atmosphere but not the greatest if you're trying to have an private or intimate conversation (which, fortunately, we were not). The atmosphere is wonderful - only to be outdone by the food. Had the scallops - delicious and very fresh. My friend had the pork tenderloin - flavorful, very tender, and cooked to the perfect level of doneness. We had the escargot, rack of lamb, and creme brulee. The meal was fabulous, the ambience was very good (they had a classy playlist with Edith Piaf, Michael Buble, Toney Bennett, Louis Armstrong, etc.), and the service was very good. The French Risotto was delicious, the escargot the same -- the main dish, red snapper was perfect. The pineapple martini's were chilled to perfection and the last dish - the french cheese cake was s delight :) The service was perfect - the waiter was especially wonderful and attentive.
This place for a cozy romantic dinner for two or to enjoy wonderful food with friends.
