Bistro Vis À VisLovely alfresco diningSitting outside was lovely on a balmy spring evening. Fresh fish. Crisp sauvignon blanc. Sumptuous desserts. No rush. Pure pleasure. Will return again and again.6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMIt doesn't get any better than thisAnother wonderful evening at Bistro Vis a Vis: 4 old friends sharing a meal. Four starters, four entrees, dessert and perfect wine. Not one missed beat. Somehow Vis a Vis manages to be personal without being intrusive. Professional without being cold. Pitch perfect without being pretentious. We've traveled the world, tasting great food - and gone across the bridge, too - but, it doesn't get any better than this wonderful Marin bistro. This chef/proprietor has a remarkable gift. Do yourself a favor: give them a try!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMAn Absolute Gem!!!!Each time my wife & I visit Vis a Vis, we are always warmly welcomed by owner/chef Soo Young Kim and her staff. The food is always amazing, and the wine list is brilliant. With everything on the extensive list available by the glass, we've managed to try some superb wines we otherwise would have never been exposed to.
If you haven't tried this place, you're missing out on something special. Parking is always plentiful in the Bon Air Center, and the little patio in front is perfect for people watching. Vis a Vis is a winner on every level!5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother wonderful meal atAnother wonderful meal at Vis a Vis. Pappardelle was delicious. The waiter's wine recommendation paired perfectly, as always.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat food, always consistent, great food, always consistent, great service, good wine list, no cocktails5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways DelightedBistro Vis A Vis has consistently provided an exceptional dining experience. My wife and I have dined there more than a dozen times and found every dish that we have tried to be remarkably delicious. If you are seeking a wow experience from the food you taste, this is a must-try restaurant.
While we were at Vis a Vis recently, the owner was kind enough to engage in a conversation about her attention to sourcing foods that are natural and organic. As a former biochemist, her attention to detail on this subject goes well beyond a casual interest in these matters.
My wife and I also have been struck by the wine list. The restaurant offers an extensive list of wines that can be purchased by the glass.
It is an A+ restaurant.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMVis A Vis Bistro hums as anyVis A Vis Bistro hums as any great bistro should. The energetic and bubbly owner/chef is attentive to her patrons, their tastes and the preparation of each dish. My husband and I have now dined here several times in the past year, and neither of us has ever experienced an off note. Our past and present menu favorites include: tuna tartare, duck confit, scallops, halibut, lobster salad and flat iron steak with shiitake bread pudding. On the lighter side, the fresh fruit and chantilly cream dessert is the perfect way to end the meal. Everything we have been served at this restaurant is delicious and memorable. Vis A Vis has a great wine list as well, with the largest selection of wines by the glass we've seen among Marin wine bars.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMCasually deliciousPappardelle with short ribs was delicious. Melt in your mouth meat and tangy brown sauce. Lobster, scallop risotto very good. Hot bread and olive oil and balsamic. Chef came to table and introduced herself. Brought a nice glass of white wine for me to try with the risotto. Lots of parking in the shopping center. A great neighborhood find.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat hidden gemThe food was great, service great. The chef came out and made the rounds of the tables. Vey nice withe a small Bistro Vis a Vis salad.. Love the pickled onions. Main was my first first ford into the steak with pomme fritters . The beef was something from Montana that was very vey tender. Had the afogato with their homemade vanilla ice cream for desset. Just enough. Then the surprise. I was sitting at the counter and SY was sharing some of the pulled pork tacos with the staff and offered me one with her special hot sauce. OMG. I should have ordered it. It was off the charts good.5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was fabulous butEverything was fabulous but the lobster risotto was just over the top. I see what the fuss over ramps is about now.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMA Must Visit Place!!!!We always have a Fabulous time visiting Vis a Vis! Also, the owner and staff are delightful.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWe must have averaged diningWe must have averaged dining here every week for the past three years. We love great food and wine. This is a good find.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMPeel me a GrapeAnother wonderful evening with friends in this charming and refined bistro. The food is as good as it gets - - the service is personable and on point - yet there is absolutely no pretension. Background music? Diana Krall softly crooning "Peel me a Grape." What an absolute pleasure!4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful food. A noise levelWonderful food. A noise level that is absurd when it could be altered by simply putting acoustical tile on the ceiling.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMMy second visit was just asMy second visit was just as outstanding as the first! The service is friendly, competent and professional. The food is well conceived and beautifully executed. And the wine list (and the wine pairing advice) is excellent. I'll be a regular.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my first time atThis was my first time at Vis a Vis but it won't be the last. The tuna tartar was mouthwatering and the house pickled veggies refreshing. The came over to discuss our wine choice and stayed to chat a few minutes. I can't wait to go back.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was amazing- Warm lobsterFood was amazing- Warm lobster salad infinitely more delicious, had twice the lobster, and was less expensive than one I'd just had an extremely well-known restaurant. My date was wowed by the moistness of the confit but took more than her share of my halibut.Next time I'll bring a group as there were quite a few new dishes since my last visit3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently excellent cuisineConsistently excellent cuisine and wine. One of our "go to" restaurants in town.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMA Trio of Housemade IngredientsThis evening I went to BVaV on my own since my bride was on an errand of mercy in The City. I sat at the counter. I was able to get great service from my server , Jorge, and talk to owner/chef Soo Young as well. I have given up wine for Lent, so I had sparkling water. Seems like a crime given BVaV's extensive by-the-glass wine list. I started with the large field and herby House Greens topped with onions pickled in a house-made vinegar. Then my first taste of BVaV's fish tacos. I slathered each one with BVaV's house-made hot sauce... great flavor, and only hot when I poured it on. Dessert was the Affogato- house-made vanilla bean ice cream with a shot of espresso). My counter seat got me the house-made ingredients story. Extra fun!2/21/2013 12:00:00 AMOur go to restaurant for deliciousOur go to restaurant for delicious food and wine. Creative flair to each dish.1/3/2013 12:00:00 AMThoroughly enjoyed our visit.Thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Me, my wife, and twin 7 year old boys ate an early dinner here. Didn't expect to find such a high quality place in a shopping mall. We received a warm welcome. The food was prepared with care and an obvious passion for cooking. Great flavours. We had clam chowder, duck confit, a seafood pasta, and a beautifully cooked, tender pork chop. The wine list, of carefully chosen boutique local producers, puts to shame many a list of big names you might find in more extravagant restaurants. This was our first visit and we will be back - one of Marin's better restaurants and means you don't always have to go into he city for a fine meal.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
