Bistro VGComfortably CreativeThis is a go-to restaurant in Roswell that clients and visitors will always enjoy. The menu is online, and the dishes often display some surprising creativity without being frightening. There are no foams or liquid nitrogen, just high-quality ingredients served with some tasteful flair. The bar is comfortable and welcoming, the decor simple and pleasant, and the service knowledgeable, helpful, and unpretentious. Diners tend to dress just one more notch to the casual than in Buckhead.
I often ask for and follow the server's suggestions, and have never been sorry. Management does a great job in selection and training, and has them sample the dishes so they speak from recent experience.

This time was Saturday night before Mother's Day and the place was very busy. Nevertheless, our reservation secured a table with no waiting and the food was excellent. Service was a bit slow, but our server and all others were working hard to compensate for the jam in the kitchen.
I had the 'Vinny's' Lasagna; my wife had the Red Snapper Special. We enjoyed both and can recommend highly. VG, Viny's and the other Sedgwick restaurants all have excellent bread -- definitely a feature of the place. We got there early and it was very pleasant. The waiter was very knowledgeable, but we did feel that we were being rushed. The diners started coming in and the restaurant was very crowded. It became so loud that we could not talk to each other. Even the waiter was having trouble communicating to us.
We were definitely rushed with dishes being picked up as soon as we finished, etc. The good thing is the food was excellent. But the sound (decible level was over 100) is just too annoying. The waiter did a nice job initially presenting the specials and offered guidance and recommendations for wine and dishes. My wife and I wanted some flexibility and were happily accommodated (we ordered the mussels, an entrée, and wanted to split it as an appetizer.) We found the food to be very tasty and fresh. The service was excellent, a very pleasant atmosphere. A good place for a date in Roswell and convenient. I found the exposed painted walls somewhat bland rather than enhancing the ambiance. My test of a restaurant is the duck. The breast was done very well, the leg tasted like it had been refrigerated for a week. My companion loved her entree. We were glad to see that our favorite waiter was still there and he guided us through the menu. The food was fabulous and served piping hot. It was very dark and masculine then, but very rich in decor. The new "VG Bistro" is lovely. It is all light creamy white, so it seems larger, yet still has intimate nooks. Still a "stand alone" in the N. Suburbs of ATL. Food is stellar. We tried the cheese and meats groupings as an appetizer with the table of four we were with. Very high quality, "European" in presentation with the board served upon, etc.. Halibut and Salmon were both delicious for entree. Sugared beignets with dipping sauces for dessert were decadent. I don't write many reviews unless the overall experience is worth the time and energy to log on and say something. The only downside was that we were seated at an awkward table just inside the bar area. Our table was too close to the bar table right next to us and people could not get through without bumping my chair (which happened a lot).The table was also very close to the front door on a cold night. We had a late reservation and I am certain that a party of 7 could have been seated in the dining room. It made us feel unwelcome. The food, however, more than made up for the seating arrangement. Everything was fantastic! My husband and I both had the Veal Chop special and it was amazing! Our daughter is a picky eater and a vegetarian and had a wonderful meal as well. The food is excellent and there are many selections from small plates, soups and pizzas to steak, poultry and seafood. I recommend the Gnocchi with cremini mushrooms from the small pate sections and of course the white truffle parmesan fries. The lasagna is one of the bests I've ever had, but I only recommend it if you want a hearty dinner. For a more light faire, try whatever their fish special is. It's always cooked to perfection.
