Diner Reviews
  • "Very Good French dining experience. Beet/Bacon salad was outstanding, Thai mussels were good (sauce a little heavy), and the summer poached salmon was also very good. Would definitely recommend and return, but not dying to go back (which is an experience deserving of 5 stars in my opinion)."

  • "Thank goodness I was able to discover that some of those responsible for the original Jubilee (formerly on East 54th Street) have moved. Le Bistro Vendome is a treat to visit and is so much better than the restaurant now called Jubilee (on First Avenue)! The famous mussels, salads and french fries and so many other offerings are now found at the civilized and comfortable Le Bistro Vendome!"

  • "The food was great and plentiful. The service was very attentive without being pushy. We started with a bottle of Malbec. It was very reasonably priced. We shared an appetizer. There was no discussion about any upcharge for sharing. The appetizer was served and the waiter came with additional plates for sharing. One entre was cold poached salmon. It was delicious. We will definitely be coming back."

  • "Although we live on west side we find getting to Bistro Vendome easy and worthwhile. It has become our favorite place to meet friends. We love the food, inclusively. Their seasonal specials are terrific and their bartender skillful."

  • "I've tried every dish and everything is great. The menu changes a bit seasonally which is fun. The servers were great when I first started to go, but they are different now. They don't seem to care as much or know as much. But the food is so good that I go anyway. Also there's a new floor manager and he's very sweet. Hopefully the servers will improve."

  • "Met resident of this Upper East Side neighborhood for lunch and loved the experience. Was able to sit outside and enjoy nice weather. I enjoyed mussels and companion enjoyed tilapia. Friendly personable service and attention by owner. A good find."

  • "Mussels Provençal are great. Rest of meal okay. The fries were great too. We has the lobster Caesar salad which was way overpriced. Lobster portion was no bigger than 2 shrimp. Service was a bit fast."

  • "We've been to Bistro Vendome numerous times and it has never disappointed us. The food and service are consistently excellent, with a tab that's refreshingly reasonable in today's' marketplace. Fortunately, it's located right within our neighborhood, so we're always only a few blocks away from enjoying a fine meal. My favorite appetizer is the artichoke salad, and for the main course, the scallops, but in point of fact, everything that my wife and I have ever ordered from this establishment's menu has been delicious. Add to that a lovely setting, including a picturesque section for outdoor dining on a terrace, along with a friendly and hospitable staff, and you have all the ingredients of an ideal neighborhood oasis."

  • "Excellent food in an adorable restaurant. The frog's legs were outstanding."

  • "This restaurant is too expensive to be rushed out of it the way they did. They even took my bottle of beer with beer in it. Not going there anymore!"

  • "Nice atmosphere, delicious food. Each person had a different dish and all were excellent, especially the mussels. Would definitely return."

  • "the garden? or beneath the skylight several choices of what atmosphere to dine in. And the food is delicious. Been there many times and have taken guests there for lunch on several occasions."

  • "My wife and I joined our friends for brunch for the first time at Bistro Vendome. (My wife does the research and her choices are always excellent.) The prix fixe brunch included a drink, an entree, a beverage. Each of us ordered something different so that we could compare. I had the quiche special for the day: light, fluffy, tasty. Equal to the food was the setting. Bistro Vendome offers three levels: a lower party level, the street level that included a bar, and the upper level with a skylight. So it was a dramatic setting with a view to the outside garden--a special treat in Manhattan. Service was attentive and unobtrusive. The whole experience was relaxing, one conducive to easy conversation. We would definitely return."

  • "Bistro Vendome has just the right combination of good food, comfort, sophistication, and ambiance to make it a pleasure from all points of view. None of the other restaurants in the neighborhood have quite the same personality. I've been there twice and will go back. The outdoor garden is great, and indoors is wonderful too."

  • "Although I have lived in Nyc for over 40 years I had never ventured in that street. What a nice surprise for my guests as well. Will definitely return maybe for dinner this time!"

  • "The food is glorious. Artichoke salad prepared in a very original and delicious way. Mussels terrific;succulent and varied sauces. Duck best. When in season like now the soft shell is perfect. It's getting very popular so every table was taken and several by large groups which are inevitably very noisy."

  • "When recommended I checked the menus and saw practically nothing vegetarian for me. I called and was told that the chef would prepare something special. Indeed, the (simple) combination of vegetables was exceptional. And priced well. The other two in our party were happy with their scallops and sole meuniere (which was very pricey). And I think pleased with their wine selections as well. A lovely ambiance. But very noisy neighbors at the next table and around us. Tables a bit too close. Altering that would be a big advantage. Service excellent. Also they accommodated my guest's late plane arrival and that was much appreciated!"

  • "A beautiful restaurant especially on a nice day. We enjoyed outdoor dining very much, but food was a bit of a disappointment. I had soup of the day and beef tartar and honestly, I can make them much better at home. Eggs Benedict that my husband ordered seemed pretty good and so was the apple pie (sorry might have been called different name). So go for a good cocktail and to enjoy ambience with your family or friends! The service was not bad at all. "

  • "After being so sorry to have Jubilee close, friends invited me to try the new Jubilee on First Avenue twice and I was so disappointed. I am delighted to report that after asking a lot of questions I discovered that Bistro Vendome was owned and managed by one of the original Jubilee chefs. It has been a wonderful dixcovery."

  • "Great, authentic French bistro food. Attentive wait staff and good light upstairs. Will return."

  • "Not only is the classic French bistro fare top-notch, the service is always friendly and accommodating. My husband had filet mignon with frites, our guest ordered scallops, and I enjoyed the quenelles of pike in langoustine sauce - a bistro dish nearly impossible to get outside of France. The quenelles were light and airy, the sauce intensely flavorful. And when a fourth in our party was detained and couldn't join us, the restaurant made up a dinner and dessert to go for him, timing it to be ready to go close to when we were. A delightful place!"

  • "I had dinner Weds. night with my friend from Boston and recommended the wonderful artichoke appetizer…….what a disappointment…it must have been a different chef…the dressing was different and mediocre…..otherwise,everything else was satisfactory."

  • "Bistro Vendome was new for us and it didn't disappoint in any way. The service/food/venue combination was as advertised; Bistro fare with a New York touch. The Mussels were excellent, wine list was good and we particularly liked having a bit more space than in traditional NY restaurants."

  • "I love this restaurant and am always comfortable recommending it to foodie friends. I always have escargots and as a result often miss other superb appetizers. Terrific bartender. Great fish, duck, etc. price better than any equal."

  • "I brought a nebie to the restaurant and she fell in love with it too. I have been for lunch, brunch and dinners and I am never disappointed. The service is attentive without being pushy and the food is always using fresh and tasteful ingredients to form a creative menu. The appetizer selections are so good, I sometimes just order a few from there. The ambience is elegant, classic and comfortable. Enough space between tables for a relaxing dining experience. Since this is in a townhouse, there is also a wonderful outdoor deck in back. "

  • "I always try to order something different every time I visit this restaurant because the food is phenomenal and I haven't found a dish or item on any plate that wasn't spectacular! "

  • "Everything was great. Excellent menu of French dishes. We all loved the foie gras - smooth and delicious. The mussels were the plumpest and freshest ever. The owners really care. Nice choice of well priced wines by the glass. Friendly service. So comfortable, it's one of our neighborhood regular favorites."

  • "Very good and well-prepared food at $75 a person for one plate and 2 drinks each, including tax and generous tip. In the past I found the service to be unfriendly and aloof, but this time the woman owner or manager came over to chat at my table and was charming and unobtrusive. The scallops were excellent (although the portion small) and my companion's hangar steak was tasty and nicely cooked. The French accents on the wait staff sounded real to me. We were unable to select our table in advance but we were seated at a very acceptable corner table and I did not feel the maitr' di had his hand out for greasing."
