Diner Reviews
  • "the service here is always great and the food is impeccable. so delicious."

  • "Frankly, we were disappointed in Bistro Twenty-Seven. The service was all right, but that was about it. The dinner rolls were dense, tasteless and hard which suggested they came out of a bag. The beet tartare salad was fine; the highlight of the table fare unfortunately. One entrée special of Cobia was grossly overcooked and the flounder entree was breaded to oblivion. The two desserts were uninspiring. Frankly, we got the feeling that there were a bunch of amateurs in the Kitchen. The wine was good, then again, Bistro 27 did not make it. Should have gone to Tarrants down the block which is always reliable."

  • "We had a good meal at this resteraunt. However, we were one of 5 tables served on a Friday night at prime dinner time (7:00). I was very surprised because the place has great atmosphere and the food was good. Restaurant across the street was packed. We were here from 7 to 9 pm and during that time 10 people (5 tables) were served. Kind of puts a damper on the atmosphere."

  • "I have been coming here for years. While I live out of town, I come for an annual conference in Richmond and always make sure to have lunch at the bistro. The food is both affordable and delicious. And the staff is almost like family to me now. I highly recommend this place."

  • "Food was delicious! My daughter and I went here before a show at the carpenter center, she was worried it was going to be to fancy, but it was just right!"

  • "We used to go to this restaurant quite a bit but haven't been in about a year, wow what a change. We had a 730pm reservation which isn't very late but all of the specials were already sold out. The waiter was hurried, not polite and seemed indifferent. The food was mediocre and all in all it was a disappointing evening. Sorry to see this great little restaurant go down hill in such a short period."

  • "We had reservations but still had to wait at the bar for almost an hour. We were then seated at a small table near the wall at the front door. Our waiter was the bartender also. Lol. Such a joke. He was Sweaty and Greasy. Confused and or tired. We were served ice cold bread. When I complained I was told that's how they give it. Food was average. I wouldn't return and Definitely would not recommend the place to anyone. The best part of the evening was the sweet hostess."

  • "We've eaten at Bistro 27 many times, most recently for dinner about 3 months ago (which was outstanding) but brunch fell short for all of us. My daughter, who's a bit of a foodie, was very excited to see the Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs on the menu, a favorite of hers. However, upon arrival, her eggs, which were supposed to have been over easy, were both hard. Which disappointed her. Then, her steak was fried to a crisp and hard to cut even. Mine was slightly better, but not by much, so we split in order to keep the youngster fed & happy. Everything else we ordered was "meh" at best and we were shocked after folks raved about "best brunch in Richmond". In my daughter's words, she'd rather hit the local diner than have brunch there..."

  • "I have been to this restaurant several times for lunch and found the food to be great and the prices reasonable for lunch so, I decided to try it for dinner. While the food was very good, I found the dinner prices to be extremely high. 2 people for dinner, each having 1 drink, splitting an appetizer and each getting one of the dinner specials and the total bill was over $100. I also didn't like the fact the gratuity was already added to the tab. I can see doing that for a large table, but there was only two of us - I was a bit offended by that gesture. I will go back for lunch, but not for dinner."

  • "We tried this restaurant after having lunch there a couple of years ago when passing through. It is very attractive and the menu is good, both for lunch and dinner. But this time I thought the food could have been improved and was not good value for the price. I began with an appetizer of pancetta-wrapped shrimp on a polenta cake. The shrimp were large, the pancetta fairly salty (tho I like salt) but the polenta was stone cold. The balsamic-oil painted plate ameliorated the salt somewhat. For entree I got shrimp alfredo. The surprise was it was only 4 shrimp (the appetizer at less than half the price had 3) and the alfredo sauce was very salty with little cream. I thought service was acceptable but not particularly attentive."

  • "Excellent dinner. Bistro 27 continues to provide consistently great food and stellar service in an attractive setting. Owner/Manager William Wright makes you feel right at home."

  • "Saturday night was the second time I visited 27. The first time was a company function so I was not as aware of the prices. This time, it was on my dime. We did not have any appetizers, salads or side dishes. We each ordered an entree and I ordered (1) glass of wine. The total was $65. before tip. The portions were sufficient for us because we are light eaters. I believe if you were really hungry, you may have not been satisfied. The food is delicious, just pricey."

  • "The place is the same regarding ambience. We were seated 30-40 feet from the entrance when when the door opens there is a cold draft. The server was a bit hassled (we think). The duck was undercooked and we sent it back just to get it back looking the same. We were told it would be done over but when it returned it look the same. We were to go to the theater so we just accepted it. They did not charge us for that dinner. We then heard that there was new chef and that may account for the changes since we did enjoy Bistro 27 in the past. Hope it improves."

  • "First time dining at Bistro 27 and found the food very good. The service was another story. We had a 7pm reservation on a Sat. and were seated at 7:25. We sat for ten minutes waiting for our server to greet us and take out drink order and then waited ten more minutes for our drinks. Placed our food order and only three salad/appetizers were brought and it was at that moment I was told they were out of stuffed calamari. My guests began eating while I waited for my second choice appetizer. Dinner arrived but we had to wait to eat, a good five minutes, because our utensils were not replaced after using them for our salad/appetizers. After our meal we left the restaurant and saw our server outside, sitting on the curb smoking a cigarette. Nice"

  • "This was an enjoyable evening, definitely to be repeated. Menu was somewhat innovative and food was well presented. Definitely a spot to be familiar with in the resurgence of near downtown Richmond."

  • "I got a phone call that said they weren't accepting my reservation for that day. So I never got to go. BUT the menu looks great!"

  • "The food is simply wonderful...a real find here. One of my top choices in the downtown area. The only issue is with parking...not easily available on busy evenings..."

  • "Although the menu was somewhat limited, there was enough variety for most tastes."

  • "We enjoyed a delightful Sunday brunch just prior to attending a local theater performance. I love a place where the owner / manager works tables right along side his wait staff. They have a team approach that ensures prompt and courteous service. The food was tasty, the choices abundant for a brunch and the pricing was reasonable. A real plus was the complimentary parking--off street, located just one block away. Will definitely return."

  • "Enjoyed another wonderful meal at Bistro 27. Monday and Tuesday are probably the slowest dining days of the week. But, if you're good, you attract. This restaurant was doing quite well for a Monday night."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed one of our best meals ever in Richmond at 27. The service was pleasantly attentive and the atmosphere inviting. We noticed a diverse range of diners ... A large group and several couples out for quiet evenings. The escargot is the best we've had in town, and we loved the rockfish & crab and lobster ravioli specials. We'll definite return."

  • "My wife and I are not strangers to Bistro 27. Eighteen months ago we had our wedding reception here. In looking for a reception restaurant we found attention to our questions, fine food and great atmosphere. Not all the restaurants could match our experience. In eighteen months, in all the times we have come back to Bistro 27, we have not been disappointed. We intend on coming back and in spreading the word about Bistro 27."

  • "dining by the door on a cold winter evening is not fun. every time the door opened you got chilled to the bone. although food was good the service was not. drinks delivered wrong, charged for drinks we did not get with no apology. we asked to move to a table away from the door and was told it was reserved. no one used the table we wanted to move to the entire two hours we were there."

  • "We went to Bistro 27 for my wife's 35th birthday. We opted for the 6 course "Chef's Choice" and we're very happy with the whole meal. Nothing better than letting the Chef do what he does best. Food and service were great. You should eat there."

  • "My husband and I invited another couple to meet us for brunch this past Sunday. We had lunch at Bistro 27 two years ago. Our lunch was very good, but the brunch this time was disappointing. The service was just average. The hostess was excellent, but our server was very blase. When I asked about the corned beef hash, he said that he did not like corned beef hash. The sparkling wine selection was dismal. The music was inappropriate for a Sunday afternoon. The music was appropriate for a Saturday night party."

  • "This was out first time at Bistro Twenty Seven. We had requested a table by the window, but were seated instead at a inside table. The restaurant was very busy and the service was a bit slow, but the waiters and waitstaff were very polite. The menu was very good lots of choices. Wine list was also good. We would definately try this again."

  • "There were a lot of large holiday groups for lunch the day we were there. The noise was pretty overwhelmin and it was /hard to hear each other. The waiter was running ragged trying to keep up with the large groups, so our table didn't get much attention, by his own admission. We didn't need much, so it was fine. The food was very good. After we finished our bottle of wine, the owner/manager (not sure who he was) came over the poured another glass of our same wine for each of us without additional charge -- that was a nice touch, which we thought he did to make up for the lack of attention we had received. I would go again...it's a crazy time of year everywhere in the restaurant business."

  • "This place was very nice, it had a great food selection and presentation. It was a Tuesday that I went for my wife birthday. There was only 3 table seated. It was very quite and the ambience was OK. I would go back just on there food. It was good."

  • "I have been to this restaurant twice now and both times it was fabulous. The service and the food are exceptional (I had the Brazilian stew and my husband had a grouper special). And all the pastas are homemade if you choose to have one of those dishes. And the servers take their time and talk to you, rather than just acting like robots like so many restaurants nowadays. We will definitely be back next time we are in town."

  • "We live in Williamsburg and are relatively unfamiliar with the Richmond restaurants so we selected Bistro 27 based on the excellent reviews on Open Table. We were not disappointed. We had an early (5:30pm) dinner reservation, so it was pretty empty and quiet when we arrived; however, by 6:00pm, the dinner crowd had arrived. The salad (Mozzarella Napolean) and appetizer (duck spread) were much larger than we expected, and scrumptious. For dinner, I had the seafood fettucine and my husband had the beef wrapped in bacon. Both were excellent! We had the hazelnut torte for dessert - heavenly! Service was excellent, and we had more than enough time to make it to the Landmark theatre for a 7:30 show."

  • "We were out for a combination date night/celebration. Sat at the bar for a short bit before our reservation; wine list and beer options were great. Very cozy and comfortable dining atmosphere; you could go casual or formal and not be out of place. Staff was attentive, never rushed us, and added to our night out. All the food was GREAT! (potato and sausage soup was delicious! Duck and Grouper entrees were perfect!) General Manager, William, was VERY nice and checked on us to ensure we were well taken care of. Overall a great night out. We'll be recommending Bistro 27 to just about anyone who asks and to our friends even if they don't ask!"
