Diner Reviews
  • "We enjoyed a delicious lunch after visiting the Phoenixes at St John. The food was well prepared and presented. We will definitely return next time we are nearby. Our waiter was great!"

  • "A great place to go in the neighborhood, not overrun with Columbia students."

  • "We traveled up to Bistro Ten 18 because of their popular $20 brunch. Only problem? Even though it's still on the website it's no longer an option. Would recommend but not sure I'd go out of my way to travel again."

  • "The food wasn't terribly good or bad; it pretty much just was. The restaurant wasn't all that crowded, but if felt like they were understaffed or our server was just lax with her duties. It was a pleasant enough experience but I wouldn't go back."

  • "I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and we absolutely loved it! The food was excellent - -- You can really taste the love in the food :) - - The salmon literally melted in my mouth and I could not stop saying how delish it was. The drinks were amazing and perfect. The service - Impeccable. I am so happy that I found this deal on living social and tried something new in an area that I don't usually go to. My boyfriend and I will most definitely go back to try something else on the menu and to see what other delish drinks the bartender can mix up."

  • "Lovely spot in the Columbia/UWS area with a varied, creative menu. Moderate noise level allows for conversation (why else would you dine with a friend?) and decor is soft and comfortable. We enjoyed our roasted beet and goat cheese appetizer. I love mussels, and Bistro Ten 18 was able to cook them to the just-barely cooked point I requested, where the flavor is most intense. My companion's roasted beet gnocchi were flavorful. A great spot in the area!"

  • "The food was decent but not great. I had the pork shoulder and my friend had lobster bisque and the burger. Nothing objectionable in the food although it was overpriced. The service was lacking. Staff seemed bored and had no personality. We were served bread before the meal but never asked if we wanted more. After the meal was served, we never saw our server until we asked for the check....nothing. It's a cute little restaurant and with a little more work on the food and a good wait staff this place could rock. "

  • "Service, ambience as good as when I was there before! Food not quite as good but I think it was because of my choice from the menu, the corned beef hash not exactly to my taste!"

  • "Who knew there was such a gem in the neighborhood. The service and experience that my group and I had at Bistro Ten 18 was, priceless. In a city that's known for its fine eateries, we were treated like royalty. Thank you!"

  • "Gave this place too many chances...the food is OK but uneven, it's pretty expensive for the neighborhood, and the service is usually poor. The waitress last time seemed like she couldn't have care less about us. Anyway, we won't be back!"

  • "Go to place for lunch on any day. They accommodated 3tables of four each on Friday night(we were an early crowd) with grace, humor, excellent service a great food. It was a joy to introduce 11 friends to 1018. "

  • "We have come here often with friends and family. I recommend it for a casual dinner where you want to be sure everyone can find something to their liking on the menu. Food is well prepared and tasty and service attentive. "

  • "The food, service, and friendliness of the restaurant was all very good, but we generally only go to a restaurant once,"

  • "I'm a fan of Bistro Ten 18… I usually get their burger and love it. My wife, who is a vegetarian, hasn't found anything she loves from the entrees, but she likes them fine and may try cobbling together some appetizers. Their peanut butter brownie sunday was really good though -- highlight for us for sure. "

  • "The hostess was very friendly and welcoming, but our more positive experience didn't go much beyond her. Our waiter was distracted, inattentive, and hardly spoke to us. The bistro has great potential...it's rustic look on the inside and bistro-style tables could really work. They don't cram the tables in, so you can still have a private conversation and still feel you are out for the evening with energy of others around you. They did allow us to split a main course (we had a few apps and drinks first), which was nice of them. Still, it was lacking something given the extensive wine list and other positives. "

  • "I had not been to this restaurant for dinner for several years (have been more recently for brunch) and found it was better than ever, good food and service!"

  • "The food was okay - my pasta dish too rich, but my main complaint is how they dumped the plates on the table, and tried to grab them while we were still eating. "

  • "Dinner prior to an event at the Cathedral of St John the Divine was super. Friendly, attentive -but not intrusive - staff was great as always. Two of us enjoyed a great meal composed of a couple of starters. Scallops were tender and cooked just right. Who knew there were so many different types of beets? Desserts were rational in size and delightful in taste. Bistro Ten 18 is a true neighborhood gem for both lunch and dinner."

  • "My husband and I always eat at Bistro Ten 18 on his birthday, and we take visitors here for dinner. Really a nice, peaceful place with excellent food."

  • "This is restaurant that has great food and 99% of our food was great. An accompaniment to one entree was awful. The server apologized and provided a replacement side dish. The restaurant also bought us a round of drinks and offered dessert on the house. However, we were never offered bread--we had to ask for it. Everytime we wanted something from our server, we had to ask that someone find him. Then our server informed us that he was at the end of his shift and left during the meal. After that, we sat for as much as 15 minutes with no one available for us to ask for anything else. Although everyone was very pleasant, the lack of attention was a big disapointment."

  • "I had lobster bisque, which tasted more like cream with tomato sauce than lobster, even with the bits of lobster floating. The pork shoulder, though, was quite good. The choice in wine buy the glass was better than it had been previously."

  • "Went for brunch ...had to remind server to bring bloody Mary...which arrived after food was served. Serve made two stops to check on coffee...first time filled my wife's cup while ignoring mine. Second time, filled mine while ignoring my wife's emptllljust not the expected level of attention. We were seated in the windowless room which lacked any acoustical treatment....got extremely noisy at its peak. Next time I would look for table in front room or eat at the bar.p"

  • "I had a Groupon for two, come here to celebrate my sister in law's birthday, my brother also came. My brother had the striped bass in which he said,"this is sublime". My sister in law had the fresh made fettuccine with a sea food combination, in which she described as good. I had the salmon with the butternut squash. I could have eaten a whole bowl of the butternut squash it was delicious. The portions could have been more the fish was such a tiny piece and only one butternut squash come with my dish. The menu is pricey disappointed with the portions. I'm glad I had a Groupon."

  • "We had a wonderful meal at Ca Va. It's conveniently located in the theater district but lacks the touristy feel of many other local spots -- a welcome difference in ambiance. The servers and maitre'd were extremely attentive and we tout of their way to accommodate some food allergies of our guests. Particularly delicious were the scallops over risotto and the Salmon over greens with apples. A true gem from Todd English!! We will be back."

  • "The service was very good, but my turkey burger was raw in the middle."

  • "My husband and I went for date night with a groupon we purchased. His sea scallops appetizer was delicious. My beet salad and goat cheese appetizer left a lot to be desired. With so many delicious and creamy goat cheeses out there, the one in this salad was dry and hard. My husband had the skirt steak and it was delicious. I had the chicken breast. It was good, the polenta was a great side for this but there were so many onions that everything tasted of onion only. We also had a carafe of sangria. The sangria was good but there was so much ice we hardly got any sangria. It was disappointing. I would go back, but only with a Groupon. Otherwise this place is way overpriced for mediocre food."

  • "Food is always great, especially the daily specials. There are two rooms, the bar area and another adjacent area with a gas fireplace. Both rooms are pleasant and different from one another, The wait staff is attentive and the drinks are perfect."

  • "Had Saturday brunch here, and quite enjoyed an inventive menu, well-prepared dishes and a nice view of St. John the Divine. Would return and sit at the bar, as the fireplace room is noisy and bland."

  • "This place is a neighborhood gem. Often filled with Columbia students and professors, it stands apart from other area haunts. While not considered a "trendy, foodie place", it has been consistently above average in my experience. The menu has become more sophisticated and varied. Great salads and delicious seared scallops with potato roti were perfect. The waiter was friendly and professional. And, how do you top a roaring fire in the midst of a cold snap?"

  • "Bistro Ten 18 is a great place for dinner. Varied menu with terrific specials. I have never been disappointed. Wait staff is very attentive and accommodating. Drinks are made well and there's a decent wine list."

  • "Small but cozy atmosphere with a fireplace in the dinning room. Food was exceptional...Maine Lobster Bisque, Seared Sea Scallops, Roasted Wild Striped Bass and Grilled Skirt Steak all wonderful. Wait staff very attentive. Although we were introduced to this restaurant by using a Groupon would definitely go back again when we are in town."

  • "The food and service were very good. The wait staff was attentive. The best part on cold winter night was the blazing fireplace...very cozy for a Sunday night dinner. It was a great place to meet our son and his girlfriend for dinner."

  • "It was my first time here and it was a lovely place for brunch. The area is quiet nice on a Sunday, especially with the St. John the Devine Catherdal across the street. Price for most brunch type food like Eggs Benedict is reasonable, but for Al a Carte items and sides, $5.00 each is too much."
