A word from bistro sixty
Bistro Sixty is an evolution that started with San Diego Desserts wholesale bakery in 1999, providing desserts to local restaurants, hotels and other venues. We've evolved to a full bistro and wine bar serving breakfast, lunch and dinner seven days a week plus Sunday brunch. We have an enclosed heated patio with live music 6nights a week. And of course, we still have amazing desserts.Continued

  • "What a find! We put in a reservation for a large group about two hours before arrival and were treated so well. The place was hopping with great music, the wine list had a wonderful selection for all price ranges, the food was superb and arrived quickly. They even had a semi-private room for large groups that was just perfect. We couldn't have asked for better service from the wait staff or a more attentive chef/owner, even though he clearly had a full house."

  • "We always have a great experience and delicious food here, but tonight I tried the Chicken Diane off their new spring menu and it was fabulous! My friend had the Tuna Tartare Tower and she said it was delish and it was REALLY pretty too- Will try that next time. Mondays and Tuesdays are great days to try a nice bottle of wine at 30% off. They have a great selection of wines to buy and take home now as well as some handcrafted gifts for Sale. I especially LOVE my hand painted wine glasses made by a local artist. There’s always something for everyone here, even if you’re just cruisin in for a glass of wine and dessert. My favorite local Bistro by far!!"

  • "Everything about this place was great! Very attentive service from Rick, the owner and the food was really good and well priced. We needed to get to another event and everyone was very accomodating to us. Would definitely recommend this place if you want to eat before going to Moxie Theatre or just anytime!"

  • "Me and my wife had a great time, some disclaimers - we came at 7PM and the place was still empty - that’s the way i like it. When we left it was half full, but still quiet. Instead of ordering entrees we order four first dishes, so it cost the same more variety less quantities. All four dishes were great. And couple of singers sang all evening smooth songs with acoustic guitar and Banjo, exactly the sort of music we love, so luck contributed, no doubt."

  • "The salmon was cooked perfectly and has a great slightly spicy sauce that is just excellent."

  • "Pot pie was dry, ravioli came 20 minutes late and was not cooked, salads were wilted and brown... And they were not supposed to be. The owner comped some stuff, but when you leave a place still hungry and feeling ignored, what's the use of getting things for free? I will not be back... Even for dessert."

  • "whether meeting someone for lunch or having a date night, the food is great and the desserts are wonderful. Service is usually good but a little slow when they get busy. I'm not a big wine drinker but can trust Mark to make a good choice for me when I ask. There's a nice feel to the place that we like."

  • "You don't have to go downtown or to La Jolla or other trendy parts of town to enjoy a great meal and ambience. Check out Bistro Sixty in El Cerrito. They have great ambience for an evening dinner to go with their fab menu - and they are an awesome breakfast place, too!"

  • "Excellent food & wine, as usual, and enjoyed the musical duo very much!"

  • "The environment is warm and inviting; the menu interesting with an array of flavorful food. The salmon with Chile glaze is one of the best salmon dishes I have had. Portabella mushrooms baked with gorgonzola cheese are delicious and if you need assistance with wine pairing, don't fear they will select the perfect wine for you. Once you've come to the restaurant, you will always feel like you are returning to a friends home."

  • "When this place came to the college area we were excited as there aren't many non-chain restaurants. We really like neighborhood eateries which this tries to be. The first time we went there is was pretty good. The second time the service definitely seemed to slack and the food was average."

  • "Wonderful experience! Food was good and the wine list wonderful. Friendly service too. We happen to be dining on a Tuesday evening, with live music playing and enjoyed every song! Dessert was delectable. We had the pistachio baklava and the chocolate mousse - we enjoyed every bite! We will be visiting again soon."

  • "Found this restaurant via Open Table when another La Mesa restaurant was already booked. Wanted a nice atmosphere, good, food and nice wine. This met all three categories! There was some nice live music as well on Saturday night! I live in Lemon Grove (where there are essentially no good restaurants) and finding a nearby cute place is always welcome! I like nearby Terra American Bistro too, but felt this was one little step above in terms of ambiance. You should give it a try! I will be back soon!"

  • "My only criticism is that they only serve beer and wine. Nice wine list, okay beer list (considering San Diego beer culture). Have the truffle fries and eat dessert."

  • "Valentine's night dinner. Promptly greeted and seated. Eclectic/funky ambiance. Musical amplification too loud for romantic evening. New waitor Brendon was friendly and willing , if not knowledgeable. Adequate wine list,. Brussel Sprouts appetizer was tasty but slightly over salted. The seared ahi was generous, fresh and perfectly done. The Diver Scallops were perfectly cooked and seasoned on my plate, but slightly under done on my husbands plate. The quinua was overly salted. The chocolate bomb dessert was the bomb, loved it! Coffee was good. Overall a very good dining experience."

  • "My daughter and I were visiting from Chicago and picked the restaurant solely to hear the live music playing that night, and if that was all our night had been we would not have been disappointed as the music really was great. But so too were the food and the service. We had a fabulous dinner - five days later I'm still wishing I could eat another plate of the brussel sprouts - and received the perfect amout of attention from our server - never hovering but consistently checking. I can't wait to get back to San Diego and make this a habit."

  • "We went on Sat when they had jazz music. We sat in the room w/the live music. For ease of conversation, I suggest sitting in different area of restaurant. As usual, food was excellent---prepared to order & perfectly seasoned. All special requests cheerfully met. Portions could be a tad larger. Service attentive. Nice wine list w/variety of prices (although increased since last time I ordered a bottle here). Some reasonably priced bottles &huge selection wines by glass. It is always a wonderful experience to dine here. Different types of music or entertainment on various nights. Every time I eat here the only question I have is: Why aren't there more patrons here? This is a definite gem of a restaurant. I give it a two thumbs up!"

  • "We had been to restaurant before and had a above average meal. It was highly rated in the San Diego Magazine thus we decided to return. Our waiter was very nice, however it seemed to fall apart after taking our order. The appetizers came within the time expected which was needed because the one of the entrees was ordered wrong wrong by waiter and took a extra 20 mins to make. When we did get it, all the people at my table had finished their meals, making matters worse, I had to send it back because it was undercooked. The two other entrees where good, but a little salty. The waiter made up for the mistake giving us a free dessert, which was very nice, however it could not make up for a very ho-hum eating experience."

  • "From the greeting at the door to the final goodnight it was one of the best new years eve dinner we have ever had. The steamed mussel appetizers were so succulent and the sauce with the bread could have been a meal on it's own. What can be said about the "Beggars Purse" light crispy filo dough with the most divine filling of goat cheese and dates taking me back to a night in Athens. Osso Bucco, oh so magnificent on it's bed of cheddar risotto. I'm making myself hungry! Can't wait to go back and dine!!!"

  • "The food is always great. I've never had a bad meal here. Portions are generous. The angus burger is incredible. I've never had a bad meal here. When there is live music and it's fun, it's way too loud to have a conversation at your table."

  • "Went out with the 'rents and they like it quiet. So, got here early on a Monday nite, sat 'outside' on the patio and it was fun. Our server Ray was very attentive. We started with the Calamari; Dad had the Ahi as his main course, Mom the Chicken Pot Pie, and i had the Catch of the Day: Salmon Wellington. We saved room for desert. One has to go to the desert display to make a challenging choice; We picked: Chocolate Peanut Butter Bombe, Chocolate Grand Marnier, and Key Lime Tart. All were excellent. Also, the coffee was quite good. In case you are there on a nite with live music on the patio, there is a side room known as the "gallery" which is quiet and intimate. We will be back..."

  • "Patio pretty at night. Our waitress was excellent. The lamb chops were cooked just right! However, we have had mixed experiences. Our son and his wife went there for their 20th anniversary. Although their order was taken, no one returned for over an hour, they had lost the order, and what they ordered ....they were out of. We probably will return BUT we will not come when we hope to have any conversation. The volume is turned up much too high and we have had to yell to be heard. This last time, I reserved on the internet requesting a table away from the music, nearest to El Cajon blvd, yet all those spots were taken by large groups when we arrived. If I had been told of that ahead of time, we would have chosen another restaurant."

  • "I was so pleased and surprised about how lovely this place was tucked in the college area of San Diego. Yummy. The only thing that disappointed me was the bloody mary, it was like drinking iced tomato juice, not exactly what I was looking for."

  • "Love this Bistro so much! Great food and ambiance. I had the Chicken Parmesan Special tonight and it was outstanding. The owners are always very personable and the live music almost every night makes it fun but cozy. If you haven’t been here you must give it a try! Cheers!"

  • "Came with the family and we all ate well, including the 7 year old. My wife is very happy with the Chicken Pot Pie and I like the salads. Wine list is good, but don't expect a selection of draft beer. We will go back and keep Bistro 60 in our rotation of Friday dinner haunts. There was a live musician, a female vocalist/acoustic guitar player, that was very talented and enjoyable to watch."

  • "Our waitress was Megan. Although I'm sure she is a nice person, she is not good at waiting tables. We have to track her down to get a drink, ask repeatly for water or anything we need. We have mentioned this to the owner but nothing changes. The sliders with truffle french fries on the side is the best thing on the menu. Upbeat place with good music."

  • "My 90 year old Mom and I wanted to try someplace new, and Bistro Sixty was #2 on the Open Table list for Rolando. I'd noticed it driving by, and wanted to go there, so I was glad to see they were on OT. Salads were outstanding, appetizers were good, service was excellent! We sat at the bar and chatted with Mark (owner) and other diners. Mark seems to know everyone who comes in-that's really nice. A great neighborhood spot I will return to many times in the future."
