A word from Bistro RyLo
Bistro Rylo, a chef-driven restaurant, is the culmination of a dream from Executive Chef and Owner Ryan Lory. “The first start to great food is great ingredients.” With this philosophy in mind, he utilizes the freshest local ingredients to build an artisan menu inspired by classic culinary traditions from all over the world.

The food is a reflection of the seasons and as they are ever-changing, so is the menu. Enlisting the help of fellow chefs, Executive Sous Chef Sam Byrne and Head Pastry Chef Ryan Lor, Lory has assembled a skilled and highly passionate kitchen. Each dish that comes out of the kitchen has been carefully crafted by the chefs in a way that they believe best highlights the ingredients.

  • "The dining room itself was a bit shabby, the windows were dirty. The wait staff was attentive. The food, was uneven with my duck confit being delicious, but it was not duck confit! It was a fried duck leg. The description also indicated that foie gras was included/ I have never seen a smaller sliver of foie gras! My husband had the potato leek soup which he felt was good, but very salty. The main courses were just ok - nothing special, but not terrible either. The berry crumble dessert was very good. The best part about the restaurant was the fact that it was byob, but that alone is not a reason to recommend Bistro Rylo."

  • "From the amuse bouche, to the blow torch tiger shrimp to the duck confit, to the sushi-grade tuna cannoli decorated with avocado and cucumber and pistachios, to the coq au vin or short ribs or creme brûlée...the creativity and execution were flawless.Portions HALF the size would have been more respective of their French roots. Service was friendly & functional...a bit more formality would better match the elegance of the food prep and delivery. The ambience was lacking....the old building with gaping windows on to the highway left much to be desired. It was clean and simple, just needs to be a good bit more sophisticated to match the cuisine. A good BYOB option for some uniquely sophisticated cuisine for the area."

  • "Our first visit to RyLo was on an awful Saturday night of heavy rain. Once inside of this very cozy dining room, our party of six forgot all about the weather. The rain against the atrium windows was actually like a relaxing water feature. Nice atmosphere!! The food and the wait staff were superb!! Will definitely dine again!"

  • "The meal was amazing! I had been before but my friends went recently and told me that the menu changed and is absolutely wonderful. Great service start to finish, warm fresh bread, iced water and they now have truffle infused whipped butter, delightful! We had the pickled carrot salad and the beet salad to start. The pickling of the carrots was interestingly tasty, and each type of carrot had a bit of a different flavor. The beet salad also improved since my last visit, it's much bigger! I had the bistro burger, it was actually mouth watering, and cooked to perfection. My friend had the blow torch shrimp, delicious & super cool. We had the s'mores dessert, scrumdidlyumptious! Loved that Chef Lory checked on us, Great bang for your buck!"

  • "I was weary about coming to this restaurant as this location has had new ownership nearly every 6mo to a year, however I was pleasantly surprised. Rylo had excellent service, with attentive and friendly staff. The food was SO good. Started with the Duck confit with French toast and foie gras--it was spectacular. Dover sole for dinner, pork trio for my fiancée--we both were very happy. Love being able to see what's going on in the kitchen.. And it's BYOB! all around the best new restaurant we've been to in ages."

  • "What a refreshing dining experience! This is the type of place that my family usually has to take a trip to NYC for and it was only a 20 minute drive. The service was outstanding but not over the top which really allowed my husband and I to have a nice night out. The view into the kitchen was great from our seats and the dining room had a nice hum to it without being to loud. We decided to try a few starters. First we had the French onion soup which was divine. Bubbly crisp cheese and a real flavorful broth. My husband had to try the foie gras and French toast which looked like art on a plate and tasted even better. We then had the steak for two which was out of this world. Perfect medium rare ! We will definitely be back again."

  • "Have been to this restaurant 4 times since it opened. Service is always impeccable. Food choices are small but always prepared fresh and delicious. Was informed that they would be expanding menu shortly. Prices are high, but not having to pay for liquor makes it reasonable. We will be back."

  • "Our second time dining at Bistro RyLo and we loved the new additions to the menu. My wife started with a Caesar salad which had a fabulous fresh dressing and I had the refreshing tuna cannoli. Like our first time, the chefs sent a small complimentary starter- a delicious warm goat cheese & truffle croquette beautifully presented. For our entrees , I chose the Dover Sole- outstanding- especially delicious was the escargot and white wine sauce. Our waiter served it table side- a nice touch too. My wife had the Cornish hen which she thoroughly enjoyed and had to take home half because it was such a large portion! Dessert was amazing- beautifully presented and delicious vanilla creme brulee and a passion fruit napoleon so good. Will def return"

  • "The evening started with a warm welcome as soon as we arrived. The interior was very romantic and great for a date or a great night out, they do have a bar but it is still BYOB. Our server Doug started us off with opening and pouring our lovely bottle of wine. We were curious to see what the Duck Confit and French toast was like so we started off with that and the Tuna. Both were very different and tasted amazing. For entrees I had the "Dry aged" new york strip that was cooked to perfection. My wife enjoyed her Dover Sole very much, and said it was very traditionally prepared. The Chef's came out, and i can tell they make a great trio. Thank you Bistro Rylo see you next week for our tasting menu!!!"

  • "This was our second visit to Bistro Rylo. The menu changed with many new items to choose from. We loved the beet and blood orange salad and the tuna appetizers. The monkfish and lamb pie were both fabulous. We really enjoy the creative touch the chefs use with with each of the dishes to make for a unique and delightful meal."

  • "The two relatively young chefs with strong resumes who have taken over this rather difficult space on an unattractive stretch of Rt 35 in Ocean Twp are clearly striving to be an important foodie destination, akin to a place like Nicholas in Red Bank but as a BYO. They've done wonders, relatively speaking, with an outdated looking building. The service was very polished. The menu reads very well. The food is on the adventurous side, especially in presentation. Appetizers were excellent. Mains less so. At this point , a lot of the food looks better than it actually tastes. But I admire what they are trying to do, hope they succeed , and will definitely go back in a few months to see how they've evolved."

  • "When we arrived only one other table was taken, when we left 2 tables taken. Don't know if this restaurant will make it. The food was good but at $42 for Dover Sole it is very, very pricy and not worth it. I have had better food for less at better restaurants. Service was really good but I wonder if that was because the restaurant was empty."

  • "The Chef is obviously talented and the menu a nice change from the usual Jersey Shore fare. It is unfortunate that a different location was not found because it is very difficult to enjoy the dining experience when the view is of traffic on Route 35 and the noise level inside is deafening."

  • "There's nothing better than having a BYO restaurant who's aim is to offer fine food within the neighborhood. Our meal and service did not match that goal. The restaurant was exceptionally noisy - 2 big parties in a very open room. It was taking so long to receive our salads we requested bread and were offered a few slices of ordinary bread. We asked it for it to be heated - which helped a little - but not of the caliber we expected. The salad portions were small and unimpressive. When I asked for a modification on the main course due to allergies, I was told the chef was tired after a long Saturday night. On a positive note, the one dinner guest who had a dessert raved about it. Overall, not enough of a reason to return anytime soon."

  • "The menu had changed since we looked on line - it was sufficient but we wish there were specials. I asked if there was any meat in my fish dish (there seemed to be an abundance of pork products in each entree). I was told there was not but clearly there was a smoky pork flavor. All the entrees were overly salty. I had very high expectations but I feel they fell short. I will probably give it another try in a few months."

  • "3 Stars for effort. Presentation of the food is like a work of art. They are definitely trying to differentiate themselves. But the food was a bit disappointing for what they are charging. It did look better than it tasted. The menu is VERY limited with no pasta dishes at all. Service was good, but there were not many customers when we were there, so I felt like they were all pitching in to wait on our table. I think this place has potential and they are trying hard, and I hope they work on the menu and work out the rough edges. I will try again and see if there is improvement."

  • "I enjoyed the experience at this spanking new restaurant. I was visiting the area for my 1st time, used OpenTable to find RyLo - had some great reviews. I had a table at 6 -only one there, so quiet. Friendly, competent service. Didn't know they haven't received their liquor license - no wine, but helped me get a delivery from a local wine shop. How kind! They aim high end - amuse-bouche was a truffled fried quail egg on a small pancake - yummy. Squid ink papparadelle with squid rings, capers, etc. was delicious as was presentation. Chocolate dessert was a masterpiece of flavors. Price was very reasonable, considering quality, selection and service."

  • "We were a party of 6, disappointed there were no specials, since small plate menu very limited Octopus was exceptional , Bean stew very good, clam flat bread under cooked, not enough clams,Ceasar Salad under dressed and served on very awkward flat plate Both steaks were fine Strip steak a little fatty and could have been seared more on outside, Short rib lacked some flavor, halibut was great. Table was set beautifully and service was very good. I think with a few changes they will be fine."

  • "We have dined at Bistro Rylo 4 times since it opened- The food is by far, the best this side of Manhattan. Last time out, we sampled the short ribs, roasted chicken, halibut and double cut pork chop. All were perfectly prepared and wonderful ! The ribs were amazing, and the pork chop superb. Two guests ordered the chicken having enjoyed it last visit. The dessert creations were worth the weekly diet abandonment. Panna Cotta and the "deconstructed lemon Pi"- 5 stars! Bottom line: This place is a gem for those who enjoy a "dining experience", not just going out to dinner. The staff was attentive and professional- and the interior is warm and inviting. We have plenty of TGIF's and Olive gardens. I'm so glad we now have Bistro Rylo !"
