  • "Our first visit to Rylo was terrific. The quality of the food was impressive and portions were sizable. The option to get the main dish, with appetizer and desert at a fixed price really offers a competitive price with most reasonably priced restaurants by the shore. We didn't mind bringing our own wine. What's also nice is that you can actually have a conversation with friends during dinner. This is not possible in the noisier places on Ocean Ave (Stella Marina, Cubacan, etc. where you can't hear yourself talk). The service staff were very attentive and friendly. We're definitely going back to Rylo and would recommend it highly to others."

  • "This BYOB on Route 35 in Oakhurst was just great. The menu is different with three different choices of Prix Fix dinner. Fish, Meat r Pasta. My wife had fish and I had meat. The only complaint was that there was too much food. We will definitely return and try different dishes."

  • "Yet another successful trip to Bistro RyLo! Blowtorch shrimp and the wedge salad as appetizers, and the wedge was out of this world! I've had it at least 4 different times. We had the swordfish and the fettuccine bolognese which was hands down unbelievable! The dessert was also spectacular, we had the berries with mint gelato, and the chocolate fondant cake. The chef also brought out a complimentary chocolate mousse and strawberries, which was so wonderfully appreciated. We've been to Bistro RyLo plenty of times and we're never ceased to be amazed. $40 bucks for a three course meal like this is worth every penny."

  • "I have been to this restaurant approximately 4-5 times since it opened and I'm never disappointed. The service is friendly and courteous, and the food is presented beautifully. Due to the fact that it is a BYOB, I never feel like I'm spending a lot of money for what I'm getting."

  • "We had chilean sea bass, filet mignon and the special fish, dover sole. Appetizers included caesar salad, grilled octupus (excellent) and lobster roll. We liked that we could chose our sides, sauces and fish preparation. The string beans, mushroom ragu and creamed spinach were all the best we ever had. Doug, our waiter, was happy, helpful and made great recommendations, especially for dessert. We asked to meet the chef and owner, Ryan, and we flattered him and made him blush with our compliments about his menu and food. Please fill up the tables, but keep one for us."

  • " We chose to go on a Thursday evening and it turned out to be a very quiet night there. We were told it's much busier on weekends. The slow night allowed us to receive outstanding attention and service. Our tasting menu(chef's choice except for the entrée) started with a scallop ceviche served on some greens. Excellent! This was followed by a Caeser salad which was like many I've had before. Course three, salmon in a tempura batter served with tsatziki. Very satisfying and not too large. The entrées we chose, pan seared swordfish and flank steak in a chili oil, with avocado, cherry tomatoes and fingerling potatoes. Both outstanding. we each chose two side dishes, which could have been a meal by themselves. Desserts were also great and large"

  • "Restaurant with a talented chef, but a very poorly trained staff. Our waitress was not familiar with the menu and disappeared for extended periods of time (e.g. a 20 minute wait before bread arrived). On our way out, the hostess never looked up from reading her text messages to acknowledge or respond to our "thanks, good night." Our big debate is whether or not we should try the restaurant again. It's always interesting to see how a waiter or waitress can influence your overall dining experience!"

  • "I had mixed feelings the first 2 times I went to Bistro RyLo - but this last visit has made me want to GO BACK AGAIN - SOON! The service was wonderful - attentive without hovering, and the food was outstanding. The menu changed since our first visit. There's a nice range of choices for the meat lover and those who prefer fish. A variety of sauces are offered on the side. My tuna was cooked to perfection and the ramekin of puttanesca was just the right amount and delicious. The bread, piping hot and crunchy, was served with real butter. What a winning combination: a neighborhood BYOB + flavorful food + great service = Ocean got lucky!! I almost hate raving about it because Bistro Rylo won't be a secret much longer."

  • "The food at this restaurant is at NYC level of gourmet dining. I will not got to a restaurant unless the food is better than what I can make at home, and Rylo does that and more. The three-course dining option is a great value, but be prepared to eat because unlike other French style restaurants, the portions here are substantial. Just be sure to check your bill if you go that route; our waitress had charged us for the appetizers, entrees and desserts individually. This was quickly undone by the charming hostess (who I believe is the chef/owner's wife)."

  • "We made a reservation for a party on Saturday night. Our host Anita was very cordial and seated us promptly. Our waiter Doug was attentive very helpful withe the menu and dinner suggestions. I had the halibut which was very good. Two members of the family ordered the Dover sole. It was excellent! Tow other family members ordered the scallops. Again excellent. This is a BYOB establishment. Love that! Gladwe caught RyLo's before the Summer rush, I'm sure this will be a very popular place once the word gets out."

  • "Had a great dining experience at Bistro RyLo. Purchsed a LivingSocial certificate for a 5-course meal. I expected little portions, but was pleasantly suprised to leave with a full stomach! The food was perfectly prepared and was presented very fashionably. First three courses were perfect-sized, the main course ribeye steak I had was cooked to perfection and I believe was 16 oz. Finally the lava cake and creme brule dessert were both very large! One of the few times I couldn't finish the entire meal! Service was great. The only thing I noticed was that there weren't a lot of people there. Only 4 tables were occupied, which is a shame because it is a very nice place! Keep in mind it is BYOB."

  • "Finally a restaurant in the area that stands apart from the average... for people who can appreciate food as a creative outlet. The menu had a great selection and each dish had a unique presentation and a cross of flavors. I see from most reviews that most people had the same experience I had. Big deal the restaurant is on Route 35 and you can see it, have you ever eaten in Manhatten?? I go out to eat for the food and care a lot less about the view or atmosphere, too many fancy restaurants with lousy overpriced food. The food is top notch and the atmosphere is low key and the staff is very friendly, which I prefer to stuffy. I dined during the weed so the noise level was quiet."

  • "Wanted to try this new restaurant for my birthday. The food was excellent! Everything was fresh & creatively presented from appetizers to dessert. The raw fish appetizers, dover sole & the berry strussel were the highlights of our meal. Our server, Doug, was knowledgable & friendly. The portions are larger than normal for a French restaurant. We would highly recommend it & will definitely return!"

  • "This was my third visit to Bistro Rylo. Each visit has been just incredible from start to finish! The menu is vaste with so many choices that you really need to come often to find your favorite! The beautifully presented dishes were delicious and the service was not rushed. I actually had time to rest between courses which is a rarity these days. The background music was pleasant and the decor was lovely!!! The Mother's Day menu looked terrific too-- I never go out for Mother's Day but I'm thinking I might go here again!! Our whole party had a fantastic, relaxed and delicious dinner."

  • "Saturday night's dinner at Bistro RyLo was terrific! This was our third trip to the restaurant and we decided to try some new additions to the menu which were unbelievably delicious! My wife started with the Gazpacho- so smooth and refreshing and the shrimp toast garnish was so flavorful. I chose the octopus which I had had before but couldn't resist having yet again! We each had a new fish entree- I had the lobster bouillabaisse and she had the branzino. Both were beautifully presented and more importantly were prepared to perfection. The branzino, served whole was crispy and delicious & the bouillabaisse filled with shellfish was accompanied by a delicious broth. Too full for dessert but will be sure to return for another amazing meal! "

  • "The dining room itself was a bit shabby, the windows were dirty. The wait staff was attentive. The food, was uneven with my duck confit being delicious, but it was not duck confit! It was a fried duck leg. The description also indicated that foie gras was included/ I have never seen a smaller sliver of foie gras! My husband had the potato leek soup which he felt was good, but very salty. The main courses were just ok - nothing special, but not terrible either. The berry crumble dessert was very good. The best part about the restaurant was the fact that it was byob, but that alone is not a reason to recommend Bistro Rylo."

  • "From the amuse bouche, to the blow torch tiger shrimp to the duck confit, to the sushi-grade tuna cannoli decorated with avocado and cucumber and pistachios, to the coq au vin or short ribs or creme brûlée...the creativity and execution were flawless.Portions HALF the size would have been more respective of their French roots. Service was friendly & functional...a bit more formality would better match the elegance of the food prep and delivery. The ambience was lacking....the old building with gaping windows on to the highway left much to be desired. It was clean and simple, just needs to be a good bit more sophisticated to match the cuisine. A good BYOB option for some uniquely sophisticated cuisine for the area."

  • "Our first visit to RyLo was on an awful Saturday night of heavy rain. Once inside of this very cozy dining room, our party of six forgot all about the weather. The rain against the atrium windows was actually like a relaxing water feature. Nice atmosphere!! The food and the wait staff were superb!! Will definitely dine again!"

  • "The meal was amazing! I had been before but my friends went recently and told me that the menu changed and is absolutely wonderful. Great service start to finish, warm fresh bread, iced water and they now have truffle infused whipped butter, delightful! We had the pickled carrot salad and the beet salad to start. The pickling of the carrots was interestingly tasty, and each type of carrot had a bit of a different flavor. The beet salad also improved since my last visit, it's much bigger! I had the bistro burger, it was actually mouth watering, and cooked to perfection. My friend had the blow torch shrimp, delicious & super cool. We had the s'mores dessert, scrumdidlyumptious! Loved that Chef Lory checked on us, Great bang for your buck!"

  • "I was weary about coming to this restaurant as this location has had new ownership nearly every 6mo to a year, however I was pleasantly surprised. Rylo had excellent service, with attentive and friendly staff. The food was SO good. Started with the Duck confit with French toast and foie gras--it was spectacular. Dover sole for dinner, pork trio for my fiancée--we both were very happy. Love being able to see what's going on in the kitchen.. And it's BYOB! all around the best new restaurant we've been to in ages."

  • "What a refreshing dining experience! This is the type of place that my family usually has to take a trip to NYC for and it was only a 20 minute drive. The service was outstanding but not over the top which really allowed my husband and I to have a nice night out. The view into the kitchen was great from our seats and the dining room had a nice hum to it without being to loud. We decided to try a few starters. First we had the French onion soup which was divine. Bubbly crisp cheese and a real flavorful broth. My husband had to try the foie gras and French toast which looked like art on a plate and tasted even better. We then had the steak for two which was out of this world. Perfect medium rare ! We will definitely be back again."

  • "Our second time dining at Bistro RyLo and we loved the new additions to the menu. My wife started with a Caesar salad which had a fabulous fresh dressing and I had the refreshing tuna cannoli. Like our first time, the chefs sent a small complimentary starter- a delicious warm goat cheese & truffle croquette beautifully presented. For our entrees , I chose the Dover Sole- outstanding- especially delicious was the escargot and white wine sauce. Our waiter served it table side- a nice touch too. My wife had the Cornish hen which she thoroughly enjoyed and had to take home half because it was such a large portion! Dessert was amazing- beautifully presented and delicious vanilla creme brulee and a passion fruit napoleon so good. Will def return"
