We noticed a drop in food quality, sometimes served luke warm, then, a menu shift that was bland. We offered constructive criticism, but changes were slow in coming. We stopped dining there for about a year or more, even though the manager, Alex, was always great to visit with, and service was always quite good. This past week we returned for Mother's Day to give it a try, visit with Alex, and have their "area's best" Caesar Salad. To our pleasant surprise, the food was great, served hot, and the menu improved. We will return far more often than in the recent past. The decor is old fashioned with cozy booths downstairs which make for a more private intimate experience. The cocktails are made with care and are not skimpy. The wine list is world class. This time my scallop appetizer for almost $14 was too small for the price. The mahi specials we ordered were overcooked but I was very impressed with the way our servers handled things. We ordered the grouper and tuna which were both perfectly done, delicious, and a very nice portion. Our table was waiting upon arrival in spite of a busy night and we were seated promptly. Everything from the cocktails and wine to the appetizers, Caesar salad, entrees and dessert were very well prepared and enjoyable. Great service from the entire wait staff. Best of all, we never felt pressured to hurry up or leave, which was a good thing because we were all enjoying our evening out and were in the restaurant close to four hours.
Highly recommend Bistro Romano and would go back again without hesitation. Just remember that it is in the Society Hill section of the city, so plan for parking and walking if you drive.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMA+ food and service!We went to Bistro Romano for a late lunch/early dinner on Easter Sunday, although we were actually celebrating our daughter's 30th birthday. Our party of five all ordered off the special holiday menu which included four courses. The food was delicious and the servers, including the young men who constantly refilled our water glasses were exceptionally nice and polite making our dining experience extra special. Our third visit did not disappoint. Ate in the bar, love to hear the piano. Tried the tillapia stuffed with crab special. Amazing! Loved it - wish they'd make it a regular menu item. Had a lemon, Pino Grigio sauce which was light but not overly sharp. My husband got the pasta side option, and thought it was a perfect compliment. I went for the veggies which was an arrangement of baby kale, tomato, and potato wedges. The kale was so good it's haunting me! If you've never had it, this would have totally converted you. Finished the meal with the tiramisu - best I've had. I don't care for it elsewhere, but always want more when we get it at the Bistro. Got there 15 minutes late for a Saturday evening reservation, yet got seated right away. The food is pricy but worth it. My husband had surf and turf - the filet was cooked perfectly, which is tough to do with such a thick cut and he likes it med. rare, and I had the stuffed pork chop, which was very tasty and generous. The table prepared Ceasar salad was delicious, as was the diver scallop appetizer. We split a cannoli and it was all we could do not to lick the plate. Had plenty of leftovers.
