A word from Bistro Piattini
Piattini is the creation of husband and wife team, Pete and Maggie Lukes. We love to travel, and to eat! We have found that our most enjoyable and memorable dining experiences have been where we were able to order many small plates with just a few perfect bites of food, that we could share. Sharing food and experiences together made our connections to one another as a family stronger and more meaningful. Piattini means "small plates" in Italian. Our fabulous creations are crafted from the finest, freshest ingredients; Organic, farm-raised, and locally sourced. We offer gluten- free options for 90% of our menus. Food and drink brings people together, which brings community together. We hope that Piattini will become a favorite neighborhood spot in which community can gather and enjoy delicious meals, share some wine and savor good company. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "Loved the food, the decor, the staff. I'll come back. Just wish it were closer to me."

  • "We waited for 30 minutes before we were approached by anyone with the except of the person serving water and a waiter running by saying he would be there in a minute to take the drink order. Never saw him again. My wife who has a true gluten allergy asked to speak to a manager about the food allergies (nothing to do with the wait, we gave them the benefit of the doubt as long as possible). They advertise heavily that they are gluten free. ANYTHING FROM THE FRYER IS NOT GLUTEN FREE AS THEY FRY REGULAR BREADED ITEMS IN THE SAME FRYER. We were told "He's behind the bar and will come over when he can". That was so unbelievable that we had to leave. Maybe give them awhile, but a true disappointment."

  • "This place is truly cute as a button. It's clean, compact, & almost seamlessly integrated to a neighborhood that is convenient, quaint, & seemingly safe. The wine list is exceptional though it does seem better for Old World rather than new world wines, & the Spanish varietals are great. It is nominally an Italian bistro but it seems versatile with other nationality-inspirec or ecclectic cuisines. Maybe I am at fault for ordering a ribeye at an Italian joint, but the steak was kind of unremarkable. I ordered it medium rare & it seemed to come back closer to rare, which is okay usually though I think the meat's temperature could have been warmer. Still everything else, the wine, the roasted vegetables, the creamy polenta were excellent."

  • "This restaurant is one of my new favorites. My husband and I ate here for lunch on the Fourth of July. We are both gluten-free, and we try to eat at places that use good quality ingredients. The menu is very gluten-free friendly, and they use organic, local ingredients where possible. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. The pesto-wine pasta was amazing, and our creme brulee for dessert was also delicious. The dishes are a good size to share. We will definitely return."

  • "We had a very nice dinner for a special occasion. The food was good and the ambiance in the restaurant was lively and fun, and the service was really nice."

  • "We enjoyed Piattini and will go back again, but I thought my dish needed more seasoning. I always think restaurants use too much salt, but I actually had to use the salt and pepper shakers this time... and I asked for red pepper flakes to try to spice it up. Hubby was very satisfied with his Bolognese. They were out of the calamari which was disappointing. The ambiance is very nice and we thought the wine list was better than most in town. Service is pleasant, but slow."

  • "My friend and I had a delicious lunch at Piattini recently. The food was wonderful. I ordered the chef's specials and was not disappointed. The service however was a little erratic and our requests needed to be repeated several times before results were seen. My friend felt the waiter was patronizing and felt that was off putting. However, the food was wonderful and the lunch was very enjoyable overall."

  • "Had 2 pasta dishes. Both flavorful. Good value too."

  • "I really liked the vibe at Piattini and the location is right in my neighborhood so I was eager to try it. The bar seemed fun and their wine list was great, but I was really disappointed in the entrees we ordered. I asked the server for a recommendation between a beef dish and a shrimp dish and he told me the beef wouldn't fill me up enough, so I ordered the shrimp. It came out as just five shrimp on a plate with mediocre (NOT spicy, like the server had said) sauce. $14 for 5 shrimp? No thank you. My friend ordered the mahi mahi special and the fish was overcooked and dry and the flavors were all bland. Not worth the money. But I would definitely enjoy the bar."

  • "First time at Piattini. On a positive note, the two smaller plate items we had were quite tasty. The calamari was very lightly battered, moist and tender. The Caesar salad was perfectly dressed and even had a nice hint of anchovy. The disappointment came with the two larger plates - Both pasta dishes (the linguini with clams and the scampi) had boring "sauces" that were (at best described as) "subtle" to non-existent. The flavor was only saved (in the scampi) by the presence of the olives and sun-dried tomatoes. Based on the 2 tasty items, I may give them another try."

  • "Love the pizza! Sit by the window (bar) tables if you need a quieter spot for conversation. This is now a regular/favorite spot for me to head to after work. Great place to catch up with friends and share a wonderful dinner."

  • "A refreshing additition to the albuquerque culinary scene. A first rate place with an excellent attention to taste, a balance between the simplicity and complexity of food and flavor."

  • "Service was great. Friendly and didn't ask every five seconds if we needed anything. Basically sat.. Enjoyed our company and dined on good food. I felt the prices were a little high. But considering the location, atmosphere you forget about cost and just enjoy the relaxing but still energetic surroundings. We will be back. To bad they don't have enough room for a courtyard."

  • "Loved it but wish when I handed him my confirmation number he would have told you!"

  • "I had been disappointed the first time I went so was very glad that lunch with friends was very good. Service was very good. It was quiet enough that we could chat."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "Had a very good meal, good wine, and good service and an all around good experience. I love having a local restaurant to be able to share with friends in town and another good restaurant to share with my out of town friends. We enjoyed our appetizers and the portions were enough to satisfy everyone in our party."
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "I enjoyed the food, but the restaurant is way too noisy. There needs to be something on the walls to absorb the noise. I can't hear conversations at my own table. There are also two hearing-impaired people that I go out with and it's really hard for them to enjoy the meal as they can't hear the conversations."

  • "Food was very good, nicely presented. Service was outstanding. Very happy to find this new restaurant, Albuquerque needs these non-chain better places to enjoy a good dinner."

  • "Great food, cool space. A few service glitches. Loved all the dishes, especially the arancini."

  • "Must try if you haven't yet. Great. Italian style tapas. Both the pizza and pasta looked good but we never made it off the tapas and specials menu. Our server, Scott, was very knowledgeable on every item we asked and recommendations spot on. Definite do over."

  • "At least at dinner. Don't know how it would be at lunchtime. Service was excellent, food good, but we won't go back. Hate to have to lean forward and shout across a small table just to hear and be heard by my table mate."

  • "We have eaten here 6 times for lunch and dinner, sometimes just for a drink and appetizer in the bar. The food is consistently delicious across all areas of the menu and provides great variety. The wine list is very good. Food and wine are both reasonably priced. Now the restaurant is more established (3 months) the service is much better and was excellent the last time we dined. Everyone is very friendly. We are lucky to have such a wonderful restaurant in our neighborhood."

  • "Called on Saturday night to confirm the hours for brunch, I was told they served brunch until 5. When we got there on Sunday at 4, after a play, we were told that we were given the wrong information and they only had their limit menu. We stayed since we were already there. The mushroom pizza seem less favorable as in the past. No longer a dish that I could recommend. The wait staff was fine."

  • "When we arrived despite having a reservation at 6:15, we were told that our table wasn't ready because it hadn't been vacated yet. There were several empty tables visible, one of which we were seated at after waiting 5 minutes. Chair placed at the table was a plastic molded version which was very uncomfortable, all the other chairs in the restaurant were wood. My friend had to switch it out. The food was very tasty-enjoyed the melon/tomato salad and pizza. Service was slow, probably due to a busy Saturday night but I felt like we got lost among the bigger groups. Noise level at times made it hard to hear conversation across the table. May go back in a few months, once the "newness" has worn off."

  • "I've been there three times in 3 weeks! It's great! Food and service is very nice. Nice atmosphere as well."
    Dined on 6/7/2014
  • "We enjoyed the atmosphere, but the food was a bit bland. I ordered the shrimp fra diavolo which is supposed to be spicy. It was not. Even the Parmesan fries needed more flavor. The service was good."

  • "This was our 5th time to Piattini and the food was great!"

  • "A very friendly, fabulous food place. Unusual but delicious food combinations and flavors make Piattini a "go to" for me. Maggie is delightful and so accommodating. I have recommended it to everyone I know who want some thing new and different. "

  • "Being of Italian decent I always welcome a new Iranian restaurant find. I loved the decor and the ambiance but was hugely disappointed in the food beginning with the bread. The gnocchi was tasty, the two shrimp and one sea scallop were the highlight. The sausage was terrible. Dry and not having a nice texture, oft reminded me of a cheap imitation of authentic. The tera mesu tasted like pound cake soaked in espresso with a dribbling of cheap chocolate syrup. The waiter knew nothing about the wine list and when I asked about one of the pasta sauces he said he didn't know and didn't offer to find out.I will not return."

  • "We are so glad Piattini has come to our neighborhood. The food and ambience are outstanding. A wonderful dining experience. And taste and portion size are nearly perfect."

  • "This was our second trip to the new UNM area restaurant off Girard and it was as pleasing an experience as the first time. It was busy but not crowded. The calamari appetizer was light and fresh. The specials were excellent quality and value. From the clientele this has obviously become a neighborhood favorite."

  • "The restaurant was hopping and the service was attentive, if a bit disorganized. The main flaw was poor execution of a couple of dishes - the risotto was undercooked; the chef was very skimpy (as in barely existent) with the cheese and nuts on the beet salad; and the clam linguine portion was very small. All that said, it's in a great neighborhood location and the staff is trying hard (speaking of the staff - the place was fully staffed, avoiding the understaffing problem suffered by so many new restaurants). We're going back."

  • "There was great anticipation for the opening of Piattini and it does not disappoint. The food was delicious, we had the pasta as our entrees and it was fresh and light with amazing flavor. The house salad although typical ingredients was tasty and just the right size. The star was the carpaccio, it was memorable. The entire staff was friendly and inviting. Only issue was the noise, we were there on a Friday night around 6 and it is loud so be prepared. I would highly recommend Piattini and hope it is the neighborhood for a very long time!"

  • "I really wanted to like Bistro Piattini but was not overwhelmed with the food. I tried the clip but it was a little too underdone in the center. The lamb was a little too tough but the demi glaze was wonderful. Great beet salad and calamari as appetizers. Good wait staff. "

  • "After Vivace closed, my friends and I really felt the loss. Nob hill has many restaurants, but needed an upscale Italian restaurant for special occasions. Piattini's is not cheap, but it won't break the bank either. They have the best french fries in the world according to my 13 year-old dinner guest and I swooned over the creme brûlée. I highly recommend the crab cakes for a great starter."

  • "Restaurant has nice layout for private conversation, walking distance from UNM North Campus, so nice walk for lunch. Been there twice for lunch. Pizza not nearly as good as Farina. Panini OK. Side salad was good, but how difficult can that be?"

  • "This was our first time at this place and were pleasantly surprised. It was sort of a hybrid of a tapas-style and full restaurant. There were some small plates and some larger ones as well as some described "American-sized portions." We started with the Parmesan fries, which were very tasty. We also had the beet salad, which was described as a large portion meant for sharing. It was fine but not outstanding and was actually fairly small. We finished with the sausage pizza - outstanding and very filling. The only downside was that the noise level was higher than we liked. "

  • "We dined at 8:30pm on a Saturday night. Place was pretty full, and VERY loud despite having no music playing. Seated across from my date, it was difficult to have a conversation. Pretty place, very modern, but lots of hard surfaces that make the sound bounce. Sound baffling would greatly enhance the dining experience. Would also prefer different seating arrangements. My date sat on a bench, I was on a chair. Not very cozy or intimate but perhaps that isn't the idea at this place. Was a big fan of Terra American Bistro so I was excited about going to the chef's new restaurant. Don't get the wrong idea, it was good but not what I was expecting based on my dining experiences at Terra."
