This is a farm-oriented restaurant overlooking the Fox River in St. Charles, IL. The menu is small, but changes frequently depending on ingredient availability. We went for a family birthday celebration recently, and were treated to outstanding food and service. The salads are generous and interesting. For entrees, three of us had the blackened trout and finished it. Two others in our party had the crab cakes and hanger steak - also uniformly outstanding. The pricing structure offers a good value, and I will definitely go back.

My fiancé and I had a wonderful time. The food was great. The waiter was nice and very attentive. Everyone, from the hostess to the cooks, wished us a wonderful evening when we left. The only negative was that their dessert menu did not have a lot of dairy free options, a lot of them were ice cream or cheese cake based. They did have a cobbler but they were all out of them when it was time for our dessert. This would not stop me from eating here again though. I defiantly recommend eating here!

We checked out the menu on line and were excited to see Lake Perch on the menu. We were disappointed to find out the menu was different when we arrived at the restaurant. We were very pleased with the meal we ordered. I had the shrimp gnocchi in a vodka sauce. very good. My husband asked if I wanted to lick the plate! OOPS! My husband had the blackened trout which was delicious. Our daughter had the chicken, mushroom and pappradell. Her taste buds were not up to par due to being slightly under the weather. Our server was greta! She was knowleghable, personable and had a great attitude.

Pricey for the dishes served. Salads were overdressed and our appetizer, pork belly, was not good. Main meal was wonderful...skip the appetizer and order anything with the butternut squash!

I would recommend Bistro, however, plan on taking your time (wait staff was not very attentive) and the portions are small for what you pay. My food was good, however my wife's medium rare came out rare (cold) and had to be sent back. Not always unusual, but when you pay top dollar for food it should come out right the first time.

Bistro One West redeemed themselves with our dinner on Friday night. Our previous dinner there this spring was average with barely mediocre service. On Friday night, our burrata appetizer, trout and pork shank main dishes were amazing and very attentive service. This will stay on our list of go to restaurants in the western suburbs.

My husband loved his salmon. I had the shrimp gnocci and did not care for it. It arrived with no shrimp and had to be sent back. The menu was very limited and did not offer many choices for my tastes. The deck overlooking the river is great on a nice day or evening. The decor is very nice. I suggest a table away from the bar for those wanting a quiet dinner.

While I understand the food preparation is supposed to be simple and clean in keeping with the chef's local-source/fresh philosophy, it bordered on being too simple to the point of being on par with what we could execute at home. Baked pretzel appetizer was tasty but too much food for two. My wife liked her butternut squash risotto, but it was not distinguished from other similar dishes we've had in the past. My NY strip was well-executed, but straightforward prep could be accomplished at home. Its mushroom sauce was excellent. Dessert of apple cobbler hit the spot with very good pastry. Service was great: attentive and knowledgeable. We'll give B1W another try with adjusted expectations that may have been too high this time.

The service started off poorly. It took ten minutes for our drinks to arrive and another ten minutes for my drink because the bar was out of the scotch I originally ordered. However, they recovered with the appetizer and soup, which arrived shortly after ordering (and were delicious!). My wife ordered the pork tenderloin and I ordered the New York strip. What she received was pork, but definitely not a tenderloin. My New York strip was less than 1/2 inch thick with gristle all around it. I ordered medium rare; but, it was so thin that MR was not possible. The new potatoes and asparagus served with the steak were cold. We've visited before and had great burgers with interesting ingredients.

I read about St. Charles Jazz Fest, so we thought it'd be fun to try a different place (we live 45 minutes away). I noted on Open Table it was our anniversary. They proceeded to seat us right next to their banquet room where a large rehearsal dinner was going on. We were as far as possible from the live jazz music, which is one of the reasons we went. The music sounded nice but we never heard it until we were leaving. The service was very good; however, we were charged $2.00 more for our entree than what was printed on the menu. We paid it anyway; and my husband mentioned it to the hostess on the way out. Doubt they'll correct their computer, though. The food was average. Overall, disappointing.

First visit, well prepared food in the "farm to table mode", most dishes were hits although one side dish was a poor match for its main course. Wagyu burger was very good in a bistro style, perch entree with fresh farmer's market veggies was outstanding, trout was well seasoned and very fresh. Side of maple glazed potatoes was just a jarring contrast with the trout, although good on its own. Wine list contained some treasures, including Kosta Browne pinot noir, and Turley zinfandels!

Bistro 1 supports local agriculture and serves organic dished prepared fresh daily. The Ambiance was fun. 2 of 6 meat dishes were returned because the protein was over cooked in both instances. Our server was very gracious and replaced both dished which were then quite good. Our server brought Parsnip chips to the table so that those who returned there plates would have something to eat since the table had already been served. We were a little disappointed that they were out of sweet corn ice cream - a standard on the menu. Since it had taken wait staff a long time to inquire about dessert and since they didn't have what want wanted to try we opted out of dessert. Otherwise, Our overall experience was good.

Celebrated my wife's birthday. Had a great wine that we located in the wine store right next door. Great view overlooking the Fox River. Unfortunately it was just a little too cool to sit outside in October, even for drinks. Walked the river path that starts is right in front of the restaurant. Looking forward to visiting again when we can take avantage of their patio overlooking the river.

The food was delicious as always and they even were able to get my favorite Burrata and Heirloom tomatoes, that were not on the menu. We came on a Sunday evening for dinner on a 3 day holiday weekend assuming that they would offer their regular evening menu, but apparently Sunday evening is usually slow and they only had an abbreviated Sunday lunch/dinner menu. I ordered the skirt steak, which was fabulous. Flavorful and very tender-cooked to med rare just as I ordered. We sat at the window and had a nice view of the patio and Fox river, because it was Sunday evening it was a very quiet and relaxing evening. We will definitely go back.

It was raining, so I would like to go back when we can be seated over-looking the river ... especailly now that it has rained and the river is something outher than rocks and ducks standing with their breasts out of the water because it was so shallow. Braised spinach under my salmon was unbelievable. Could have made a meal of it. Kimmer's chocolate-caramel-sea-salt ice cream dessert was magnificent.

We were there for lunch and found a quite large, virtually empty restaurant, which perhaps accounted for the overly-hovering wait-staff. We were told that one of our servers was a trainee, and it was he who showed up much more often than necessary. The other minor quibble is that the toast which accompanied the salads was much harder than zwieback and presented a real challenge to chew. Other than these small problems, it was an outstanding experience.

Our server took quite long to greet us at our table. The restaurant was quiet and not very busy. We didn't understand what took so long. The most displeasing part of it all was the main course. My date ordered a WELL done steak and got a medium rare cooked steak! As soon as he cut into it you could see all the bright red juices and his appetite was ruined. He informed the server who offered to cook it more thoroughly, however when it came back it was STILL not well done. No efforts were made for the mistake that was made twice. Not even a free dessert or an apology from the manager on duty. My rissoto was extremely watery and bland. I had to add salt and pepper to give it flavor! Overall, displeased with this place.

We were disappointed in our most recent visit to Bistro One West. We ate outside which was, as always, great. And our service was very good. Our disappointment stemmed from the food. The quality of the food from Bistro One West was not up to other frequent visits. The flatbread appetizer was good but luke warm. I ordered pasta which appeared to be warmed in a microwave. It had spots of hot and cool in the same dish. The entree was spicy but not much other flavor. My husband ordered the blackened trout which he said was just OK. We were quite disppointed. We will try Bistro One West one more time. But if the food is not improved we will not be going back.

Unfortunately, our experience was just ok. Two of our four dishes were missing key ingredients, one of which was arguably the ingredient that distinguished the dish (pork belly). Our server was not well informed about the menu, and our water glasses were never refilled. The food wasnt as tasty as the website descriptions would lead one to expect. We loved the outdoor patio, liked the bartender, andthought the interior attractive.
